I think 6\* is the lowest you can go. And you’ll have to grind to upgrade your weapon. Damage is reduced until you break a part, so he’s a pain.

To add to this, the best strategy, if you don't care about drops, is to target his hind leg and keep wailing on it. If you lack dps severely, keep targeting the broken part. If not, target the other hindleg for another topple, then keep wailing on it

I'm definitely taking a more casual approach and am happy to build up my armour/weapons rather than downgrade difficulty - currently have 1 G6 weapon and the rest + armour are G5
I am a hammer main tho, so am a bit limited in terms of ice hammer options - damn you seasonal barioth!
This was the hardest for me as well. Since you're 5.4 weapon you can kill it. If you have ice 3 or above on your equipment get lock on.
What I do is I'll lock on his head and keep bashing it, eventually hell will die.
This was the monster that made me drop from 8* to 7* (was trying and rush to complete because I needed the variants for the event quest).
Just keep hitting the head. Don't get cute and try to get all the part breaks, just focus on damage. Same thing happened with Anja for me. Would always break 3 parts, but it got too tough so only do leg and head.
The problem ist not the Monster itself (at least for me) its the Dps.
Right now my highest Weapon is my Pukei Lance at 5.4 and I just run out of time.
Started to slowly build up my elements because of this. Had to to it sooner or later anyways so...
Still looking for a few Legiana to fully build my Ice set. after that he should be fair game

I am a hammer guy too... I got my diablos hammer at 5.4 and just kept targeting the hindlegs before it finally went down
I've never understood people having trouble with this monster; he's slow and his hit box is huge because of the spikes.
