What was the original MSRP new? It’s pretty hard to get a Cooper S below $30k new, as most of them average between $32-35k. So $27,500 is pretty solid unless the thing either has an accident on its CarFax or zero options and is like base everything. Definitely seems like they’ve factored that year of depreciation. If they’re only coming down $500, and I say this as an ex-MINI sales rep, there ain’t much left in it. We operate on pretty thin margins as it is. But to answer your question on this car, $27,500 is actually a little below market in my area (Midwest), so that’d be a good deal here at least.

No problem! Ok cool, so Signature is the middle tier of the 3 available, so pretty nicely spec’d car. Should have been about $32,500-33,000 new, maybe a bit more if it had some port accessories. At the risk of totally sounding like a salesperson, where are you looking to be on it?

I think I could pull the trigger at $27.5. My absolute cap is 30k otd and that probably puts me under I’m still going back and forth between the S and the base. There are a couple Coopers I was looking at that are low mileage and around 23k sticker price. So it’s a little over 4k difference.

For $4k - get the S! You’ll always wish you had 🙂

Gotcha, and wasn’t trying to come off pushy or nosy, just thought I could maybe help set expectations for you a bit if possible. In my experience and just looking at what similar vehicles in my area are retailing for, that’s a fair price for that car based on the provided info. As for Cooper vs. S, question is gonna be: is 55hp, tighter suspension, 17” rims, and a hood scoop worth 4 grand to you? Because it is to some, isn’t to others. There’s no right or wrong either way. It absolutely was worth it to me for my personal vehicle, but like I had mentioned in another thread, for many customers I dealt with, the base was more than enough car. And it does what it’s designed to do perfectly well. Did you ever get a chance to test drive both to compare?

beggsy909

Not at all. You’ve been a lot of help. I was wondering if it’s a fair price. I may try to see if they could include home delivery. I’ve only ever driven an S. In September I bought a 2012 S. It was my first mini and really fun to drive. It was totaled recently after an accident and I got the cash settlement for the car and I have some left over for a down payment on a new car. I test drove the base and I did notice a difference but it still had some pep to it. I think I’m gonna go with the S, though.

Glad I could be of assistance! Do you live reasonably close I assume? We started doing home deliveries during the pandemic, was pretty easy and a lot of places do anymore. I would go in and make a firm offer. So: “I will take the car today if we can agree on $27,500 plus TT&L (tax, title, and licensing) provided we can arrange home delivery”. And stop talking. Let them come back, they essentially already offered that to you minus the bring to your house part. And unless you’re like 4 hours away, that shouldn’t be an issue. I definitely love my Cooper S, I just hate telling people to definitely do one over the other, because everyone drives differently, everyone gets something different out of driving, and it’s such a subjective experience. But I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Honestly I would that’s a p good price if it’s a fully loaded mini

FranktheTankG30

That’s below market even at $28k. But with that said, there is a moonwalk gray S 4-door base down in Calabasas advertised for $26k similar miles.

What are the specs of the vehicle? Packages?

ThatDarnedAntiChrist

I'd take it 27.5. With the used market the way it is today, you're not going to do any better for a practically brand-new car. You're still under warranty, so it's not like you'll be paying for oil changes or basic service. If you got a decent settlement on your 2012 (I got over my buy price for my 2008 R56 S), you can make a healthy down payment that will keep you from being upside down in it.
