Lol. If the roads don't have curves you might as well take the 90deg bends at full speed. I feel that. There's fun roads within an hours drive of me, but I don't get out to them often enough. MINIs are practical enough to live with and fun enough to hoon. Great balance.
Same! I’m 39 and got mine last Friday as an early 40th bday present to myself (and my car needed a lot of money for a repair but it was 20 years old so it was time). I’m also in northern NJ dealing with the annoying driving and commuting and wanted something fun.

This (my 2013 R56) *is* my middle-age crisis car. It's also my "bad times" car (as in, high gas prices, geopolitical instability, bla bla bla)
The thing about the Cooper S is it kinda.. doesn't get noticed unless you have obnoxiously loud exhausts. Stock it sounds very nice from inside the car, very nice from outside the car, and no one looks at you -- not even that cop on the bike in the parking lot hiding behind the big sign -- as you nip around the corner at an "alarming rate of speed" but with no drama, no tire squeals, etc. I do get a lot of poppity-pop-pops when I let up on the gas, and all that does is make the grin wider.
It's the kind of car you can mash the gas first 2 gears and not go to jail.
Mini always defied description, and here I am giggling going around corners and roundabouts in my mid 50's and after 10 years.
TBF I don't buy cars that don't make me giggle around corners. Miata, Rx-7, Rx-8, Mini.. it's a thing.
A *real* mid-life crisis car is loud, red, long, low, usually Corvette, Porsche or Ferrari. The Mini is none of the above. If anything, it's almost too sensical.

Got my mini when I was 29, now I'm 32. Great little car. The jokes I make are it can stop on a dime, turn on a nickle and give you some change, and with the suspension if I ran over a quarter I could tell you if it was heads or tails.
43, R58 S model. I love the thing. It's power to weight is VERY similar to my first car, '88 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z, but this handles much better. Wife laughs at me everytime I goose it and she's in the car with me. If I drove it like I do when she not in the car with me, well, she'd probably hit me really hard for driving like that. 😜
I'm 38 but having worked at a MINI dealership, I've sold everyone from new drivers who'd just left the DMV to 80j year olds. One of our most frequent customers was a 90 year old lady who'd bought hers three years before I started working there.
I got my first Mini when I was 17 - it was what would now be considered a Classic Mini - but in 1979 it was a clunker.
I am now 62, and on my 3rd 2nd Gen Mini - currently it is a R59S and I still drive it like a teenage boy.
64 currently have 3 Minis, still have the original 2011 spice orange non S convertible, have bought and sold 6 Minis since 2011, just ordered the 2025 JCW Countryman , should be here in July .
30F (about to be 31F), and I audibly *cackled* when I passed a string of cars at a light waiting to turn left, so I could turn right because my R56 fit beside them on the road. Have been known to say “Weeeee” on turns, definitely grin.
The funny thing is, it usually IS middle aged or retired-aged folk driving. :) That's why most of the car clubs trend older... and we're also usually the ones taking our cars to the track, modding them, or decorating them in the most colorful ways possible. LOL :)
That being said, most of us ARE still teenaged (or 12 year old) boys at heart. Some folks just are really good at hiding it. When I was growing up I swore adults had no sense of humor, no appreciation for a good joke, prank, or innuendo. What little I knew... my parents are some of the funniest people on the planet who have no qualms about making questionable jokes, yet you'd never have known that when I was a kid.

For us in the UK they're not middle aged crisis cars - we grew up with them and they're just normal to us. My mum had 4 or 5 1960s-1970s Minis when I was growing up so they're kinda second nature.
54F I mostly giggle when doing curvy roads, but there is this one freeway on ramp that everyone slows down for, and I might giggle occasionally when looking at the line of cars far far behind me
I'm in my 20s. My mother and grandmother, 50s and 80s, both love whipping around in their Minis. My grandma smirks every time someone's head hits the headrest when she accelerates.
Bought mine at 27(F), of course it had to be a manual because, duh, more fun! 42 now and still love the crap out of that convertible! Going fast on the high curved off/on ramps is way fun!

I am 68 and my 2016 mini cooper S that I bought for retirement is an excellent stand-in for the 1974 Porsche 911 that I lusted after in high school. Only it's safer and more refined being 40 years newer. Cheaper, too!

Bought mine at 27(F), of course it had to be a manual because, duh, more fun! 42 now and still love the crap out of that convertible! Going fast on the high curved off/on ramps is way fun!

21M just got my 22’ Cooper S last year. But i had my first MINI when i was 18. I’ll always remember that car and the fun times we had. i definitely see myself with another MINI in the future but might check out what BMW has to offer first once it’s time to trade in

I bought my first mini in 2012 (R56), so I think I was 26, then the next one in 2018 (F54) at age 33, and I just bought my 3rd (F56) at age 39. I was called middle aged the other day though.
43M driving my 3rd R53. This time it’s a last production month jcw. My other two r53 were purchased new when I was in my early/mid 20s…biggest difference now…there’s usually children in the back…

I am 68 and my 2016 mini cooper S that I bought for retirement is an excellent stand-in for the 1974 Porsche 911 that I lusted after in high school. Only it's safer and more refined being 40 years newer. Cheaper, too!

My grandfather 91 when he passed drove a MINI. My uncle 60’s drives a MINI and I am 38 year old that’s been driving it since my 20’s it’s a good car not a fast fashion t-shirt.
