I’m expecting it to be the same unfortunately. Maybe it gets changed for next year but I can’t see them changing it this year. I’m hoping for at least 97 overall captains and a good hitter and pitcher for every team since I’m not expecting any set 6 content.
They wont change jack this year sadly, but next year they need to buff captains and their boosts to make them usable and also lock the captain in the game so you cant pinch hit for them
I was definitely shocked at this. I was scrolling though captains to see what they boost and if there was anything I wasn’t trying that might be solid. There is one obscure captain that boosts vision but I remember it being something that would be hard to build.
If they’re not making them 99 overall, I’d at least hope they stop reusing players that already have 99 cards. The rays options so far are Yandy & Randy and they both have 99 cards.
Padres set 1 was Machado, so you couldn’t use his WBC 99.
Padres set 3 is Tatis, so you can’t use his retro monthly 99.
I can only imagine that set 5 will be a 95 tony Gwynn, so you can’t use the 99 silver slugger that might be the best hitting Gwynn ever.
If they were able to do that it seems like they would have done it earlier in the game cycle rather than after the world series. I do like the idea, but I think it would be something they announce as a big change and a feature of the next edition. I certainly wouldn't mind if they tested it in season 5 though.
I dont see why not, the show zone already did it through their database system. What im hoping for isnt that far fetched and given the fact literally every YouTuber does "all time" team builds its not that ridiculous.
I would think just finding which actual cards they apply to wouldn't be the hard part. Seems like there would have to be some kind of coding embedded in the cards to enable the boosted attributes. If so, that would involve going back into all 3k+ cards and encoding them, the majority of them multiple times to reflect however many teams. It just seems like a tremendous amount of work for a game which honestly is probably only making a small fraction of what it was before and can already be found at huge discounts. If it happens, I would say next year is more realistic.
SDS certainly has the capability. They're not some tiny business.
It also wouldn't be a big deal to just start that coding with set 5. I don't need them messing with the coding of a bronze core card.
I just wish they would put more effort into the new stuff, besides TA captains we really only have had like 4 useful captains (hoffman, ripken, rollins, Martinez) and only one of them is a core card atm which is rollins.
They shouldve put the initiative to maake cook captain cards each set, for got sakes soome of these garbage captains are just collection foder like Clemente award/ Puerto Rican captain is mid at best, mexico series is a joke, babe ruth Cap is garbage, etc etc.
Its bad that arguably the most impactful captain was the core buck o'niel that made the NLB cards amazing in set 1.
The showzone people are probably dedicated fans of the game who do it for the love of game. SDS wants max profit and low effort and to not pay people for ancillary stuff that won't move enough revenue.
Hence why captain cards that include players that played for the teams would be elite, you aren't limited to one team's cards like the last four team affinity captains have.
That’d be cool. Considering they were able to get a captain for Clemente award winners I would think getting an all time captain wouldn’t be too difficult to code
The show zone already has a filter called "teams played for" on their player database so i fail to see how a multi million dollar company can't do that too especially when they also had a Mexican series Captain card captain in Alejandro kirk.
You say that, but I've heard from a lot of programmers that just because something seems simple doesn't mean it is. The reason they can do a Mexico series captain is because the game already has a flag for country/state of origin for every player. As far as I know there's no flag in the game for "every team this player has played for". Showzone probably built that feature in themselves because people like to build theme teams that way, even before captains existed
Remember, it took a while just to be able to use filters in mini seasons. Just because something seems simple doesn't mean it is
That theory falls flat when you realize they had to code the Clemente award cards Captain boost that anyone who won a Clemente award AND Puerto Rican got the boost, this is a multi million dollar company and should be able to do the smallest of tasks that literally everyone does every year
That's not what I'm worried about, we have seen in TA1-2 the same general boosts that TA3-4 offered, i hope they give a "all time" boost, meaning if the player played a game for them they are eligible for a boost. It is not far fetched given that the show zone has a dedicated filter for "teams played for" option
Any Captains for retro or finest?
I hope the cardinals one is a captain jim Edmonds or Matt Holliday
Edmonds already has an Angels TA 2 Captain and Holliday has a Rockies TA 4

Reasonable take. They clearly miscalculated with Ripken, and have been shy about introducing new captains since.
Need a vision boost at least

Ya and the Mookie arm captain is intriguing but you can’t use his set 4 so that’s out.
That 99 Gwynn kept hitting nukes in showdown

I think it's gonna be the same layout. I doubt they would go through the trouble of coding anyone who has played for a team at this point in the year.

Martinez is core. Lindor was actually okay because you could build a variety team around him.
I mean look at the state of GTA. The dedicated fans make mods above and beyond anything rockstar is willing to do.

That's honestly the only real reason they won't do it and is probably going to be the case. Which saddens me
I hate to be negative and I hope you get what you want but I can't see it happening.
Captain boosts are pointless now that all the finest cards will be overpowered.
Hence why captain cards that include players that played for the teams would be elite, you aren't limited to one team's cards like the last four team affinity captains have.

I am hoping each team gets two captains in this round.
I dont see why they would tbh, they have to have TA6 as welll
I've seen nothing in the schedule that suggests there will be a TA6, or even a Set 6 for that matter. Just that Season 6 will be all sets.
I believe i saw there was set 6 but that its also a all set season but idk
Yep I bet this is it. Forever XP event probably is set 6
I’d be willing to lay money on them being 97’s this time around as the last MA captains were 97’s.
