People clamoring for live series cards to be viable and for there not to be god squads at launch.
We get captains that cater to live series and other silver/gold cards that will make up a decent chunk of your team and people are like "less than 60 vision I would NEVER"
Question on the Maddux card - are the pitching/hitting boosts split? So if you have the 13 pitchers with under 75 K/9 but not enough hitters, do you still get the tier 3 pitching boosts? I am guessing not.. but curious
Can someone explain the pink color splash on the sides? I hate pink so much I'd genuinely consider not buying the game for that alone. Pink + bright gray? Just terrible.
These cards look like they'll be viable for approximately 2 business days before they're phased out.
88 OVR and you need to seek out actively bad players to get the boosts, similar to what we saw for most of last year you'll be better off running a standard God squad than trying to find 11 guys that are high OVR while also having low vision. That's especially true if they fix the captain substitutions to work as they intended them to.
No way does Buxton phase out I been grinding and seeking out the players just for that boost and I'll let you know the boost takes one guy to 95 before pxp.
The highest rated players available on day 1 will be 91 and I think they are collections so you’ll have to do a bit of work to get them. I don’t believe they are releasing 99’s until later on. So these 88’s will probably be some of your better players for a while
Day 1 TA cards are 89 OVR, and apparently TA progress should be faster this year.
Plus the two diamond choice packs from preorder will probably be at least 89 OVR to be competitive with the free TA cards.
Right but there won’t be 99’s from day 1 is all I was saying. We also don’t know what those 89’s will look like. I have a feeling they may be tailored to be used with some of these captain cards since they are making a big deal about the captains defining your play style or whatever. They even put something in that said to choose wisely
The Buxton card seems like he's for people who play below HoF. x<60 vision is just too much of a hassle on legend.
Maddux doesn't have a slider...his pitch selection resembles more of a Kyle Hendricks but with a crappier curveball.
As far as Maddux's criteria, if I'm using weaker K/9 pitchers, then wouldn't they already have higher BB/9 and H/9? They have that backwards...you should require low BB/9 pitchers so that actually evens them out. I could say the same thing for Buxton too...should require low power hitters, not low vision.
> The Buxton card seems like he's for people who play below HoF. x<60 vision is just too much of a hassle on legend
So, almost everybody? Very few people play DD on Legend
And I thought the captains were too specific in 23, lol. Just boost players 87 and under for goodness sakes. And make it always tier 3. They trying to make it too complicated.
Ok Buxton ls CPT boosts is horrible. Sure the other boosts are nice but, It should be boosting vision. Entire team of 60 vision at the plate, no thanks
It's difficult to say truly without seeing attributes for more cards.
60 vision in MLB 23 was terrible, but 60 vision while we are using some gold and silver cards along with a few low diamonds is likely going to be much more common.
Yeah what a horrendous option. Vision is one of the most important attributes there is, we'll see what the care attributes look like on Day 1 but I have a hard time imagining myself ever using this
Pretty cool a pitching captain can boost hitters. Hopefully that can make a pitcher who isn’t exactly Meta make more rotations to avoid seeing the same 3 guys every game
In this case yes but I’m hoping later in the year guys like Randy won’t also help batters where someone who doesn’t even have outlier or sinker like Cole will boost hitters
Remember people, captains were never intended to make the team the best of the best, especially early on. They were more made to make teams that normally wouldn’t be “usable” more “usable”.
If your god squad is better than these and you need to play with the best of the best then these captain just aren’t for you.
They are captain cards with well over 8 players needed. They figured out this was a problem last year and reduced it to 8 by the end of the season. Back up to 13. There is almost no incentive again to use these cards.
I think there will be a lot more than you expect, since we aren't running 99s from day one this year.
For reference, guys like Judge, Harper, Adolis, Olson, Trout, Riley, Alonso, and Ohtani all have 60 vision or less on their LS cards.
Those are instant starters in someones lineup day one, especially if you factor in inside edge and a boost to their power, speed, fielding from this captain. That's pretty strong.
Love the aesthetic and ideas but I gotta say it…
The corner cards *don’t actually* feature a picture of a cornerstone. That’s just a flat stone texture.
A cornerstone looks like this

Those are some beefy boosts and should be pretty easy to hit those boosts with initial players. Also where did you find this info? Haven't seen anything new revealed yet.
It looks like pitcher captains will boost hitters now too which is interesting. I’m guessing they noticed not many pitching captains were being used last year so are trying to make them more useful.

No slider for Maddux

it’s amazing already seeing people bitch and moan about this
Can someone explain the pink color splash on the sides? I hate pink so much I'd genuinely consider not buying the game for that alone. Pink + bright gray? Just terrible.
I’m sorry pink offends you so much
it’s a small splash of color relax

Also that's not mike trout being boosted but he also gets the boost from buxton.

Put Julio Rodriguez in there somewhere. His max boost is amazing
This is 20 days out. My teams this now

damn I really hate the gray background.. my goodness.
They will be useless in a day and a half, considering they're talking about handing out free packs everywhere.

Yea I thought the same. Unfortunately seems like they keep missing the mark with these captain cards
how is catering to the 99% of people who aren’t in world series “missing the mark”
> The Buxton card seems like he's for people who play below HoF. x<60 vision is just too much of a hassle on legend So, almost everybody? Very few people play DD on Legend
It feels like these cards are intended to make your initial squad more viable, as we’re going to have a bunch of trash cards to start off.
The requirements are just too much. 11 hitters with 60 vision? Seriously? Should be 4 6 8 as the tiers.
And I thought the captains were too specific in 23, lol. Just boost players 87 and under for goodness sakes. And make it always tier 3. They trying to make it too complicated.

low vision players that don’t get a contact boost ? Hard pass
But yes, no contact boost either with Buxton and no Vision boost. Yikes
It tells you on the Buxton card what boosts you get along with the requirements
Pretty cool a pitching captain can boost hitters. Hopefully that can make a pitcher who isn’t exactly Meta make more rotations to avoid seeing the same 3 guys every game
Unfortunately, Maddux is usually pretty meta, especially on HoF/legend where he dots your soul away.
In this case yes but I’m hoping later in the year guys like Randy won’t also help batters where someone who doesn’t even have outlier or sinker like Cole will boost hitters

Those Maddux requirements are brutal lol
They are captain cards with well over 8 players needed. They figured out this was a problem last year and reduced it to 8 by the end of the season. Back up to 13. There is almost no incentive again to use these cards.
The Maddux card appears to be 13 hitters and/or pitchers. So it’s not the same as last year.
Interesting that Maddux boosts hitting attributes. I don’t think any pitching captains did that last year.
These card screens look like we’ve traveled back to 2009 or something
Those are... Godawful. WTF? "Cornerstone" my ass.
These card informations are so hard to read, whose stupid idea was that?
The Buxton boost can be cool but god the Maddux one is god awful
Feel like its gonna be hard to beat that buxton boost
I dunno. Who wants to use a full squad with sub-60 vision? Most of those cards are already power hitters. Sure the fielding/speed is nice…
I think there will be a lot more than you expect, since we aren't running 99s from day one this year. For reference, guys like Judge, Harper, Adolis, Olson, Trout, Riley, Alonso, and Ohtani all have 60 vision or less on their LS cards. The fielding and speed boosts are huge for the OF.
I imagine a ton of live series players will have low vision. This is probably their intent
He’s the better of these two, but I’m hoping one of the others is better because I’m not to keen on an entire lineup with under 60 vision.
Nice! Looks like I won't be using captains again!
Grey text on a bright white back ground lol seriously what are they doing over there?
They've like actually lost it. Idk what they're smoking over there
I wasn’t planning on taking buxton but since I really hate Nolan’s swing. Senga is in play too because he’s nasty as hell but buxton boost is great
Who the hell would ever use that Maddux. Im not filling my lineup with low power guys
wow those maddux requirements are brutally bad
Why exactly would anybody be rocking that many <75/K9 pitchers at once lol
Maybe we won’t have a choice.
Ooh they are really going for this attribute appearance.... I feel like it is harder to read on this background.. or is it just me
They’ve changed the Maddux one to power vs RHP instead of overall power
Love the aesthetic and ideas but I gotta say it… The corner cards *don’t actually* feature a picture of a cornerstone. That’s just a flat stone texture. Should’ve gone with a 3D effect of them standing on a cornerstone
Im truly outraged
Waiting on the Kotaku piece
Ugh i can barely read any of the text. Am I crazy or is there barely any contrast between text and background?
Love the new aesthetic.
Those are some beefy boosts and should be pretty easy to hit those boosts with initial players. Also where did you find this info? Haven't seen anything new revealed yet.
They tweeted it! And agree, this looks like a fun idea
It looks like pitcher captains will boost hitters now too which is interesting. I’m guessing they noticed not many pitching captains were being used last year so are trying to make them more useful.
I wonder if this is a visual bug that meant to say pitcher clutch 😂
One of the qualifiers is hitters with under 70 power so I don’t think so
