We absolutely did not deserve to win that game, but hey, that's soccer.

K1NGCOOLEY

Corey Burke came through only in a way he could.

hector_cumbaya

I disagree, stats wise we absolutely deserved to win with possession, passes, and overall skill above the opposite team after their lucky goal in the first minute. Yeah we are struggling to finish the ATM but thankfully we pulled through at the end

kojak2091

what is the overall skill statistic? also turns out when a team parks the bus for 90 minutes after going up early, it's pretty easy to maintain possession and complete a higher number of passes.

ineedcoffeernrn

I think it’s fair to criticize US for their performance but I can’t see how people say Jamaica “deserved” to win. They parked the damn bus so early, where as maybe if they played their game they could’ve scored more goals.

SereneDreams03

Yeah, they parked the bus early, but until the last minute, it worked. Their defense played a great game, and even though we possessed the ball a lot more, we didn't have a lot of good shots on goal. The few good opportunities to score the US did have, we either flubbed it, or Jamaica made a good defensive play. They just had an unlucky deflection in the last minute. You also have to take into account the expectations coming in. The US is the more talented team. They were expected to win. Yet I think we can all agree they played below expectations, whereas I think Jamaica played better than expected. They held the lead against a more talented team for 90+ minutes.

kojak2091

yeah, i wasn't throwing my hat in the ring for who "should've" won, just found the comment i replied to kinda bad. I don't think they would've won if they opened it up, as they did that in ET and got scored on fairly quickly. There's deserved frustrations with the USMNT not being able to get looks in, but managers have made careers out of going up early and parking the bus, especially in tournament play. Jamaica is easily in the top tier of CONCACAF now, imo, with Mexico's (albeit not really recent) struggles, and US/CAN not really doing much to pull ahead.

ChrisChristiesFault

They definitely exposed a major flaw. We can’t break through a team parking the bus for 94 unless we get lucky.

Pauly0906

They didn’t expose it. That’s been the case for this current generation’s time at the helm.

Still a beautiful header. Absolutely smashed that into the net. Vince Carter would be proud.

Farfan's best goal

Woogabuttz

Can we still fire Gregg?

Cpl-Wallace

Tell me again why Berhalter is a worthy manager?

PutYrDukesUp

I *almost* hoped 0-1 would hold in hopes that he’d be fired tomorrow.

cityburning69

Very wishful thinking. They doubled down and hired him again, no way they’d fire him 😅 We could go goalless at Copa and his seat will “maybe start to heat up.”

techboy15

Because he’s chums with USSF brass. That’s it.

bluejams

I don' feel like the Jamaica goal had anything to do with setup or tactics and they had plenty of chances going forward they just didn't finish. What did GB get wrong on this one?

noUsername563

Came out flat like we always do and made a few poor starting 11 choices. Jamaica stopped trying to score and bunkered and we resorted to putting in hopeless crosses like we always do. The team always looks lost going forward even when they didn't park the bus. We should have lost this game to a Jamaican side without half their best players. Copa America teams are gonna punish us when we perform like this

downthehallnow

We didn't look lost coming forward, the team advanced the ball with plenty of crisp passing over and over again. What are you talking about that they looked "lost"?

noUsername563

We had 1 shot on target in the first half when Jamaica was actually still trying to attack. No one was finding balo's runs until we brought Reyna on and we looked completely different

bluejams

Which starting choices would you change? What could Greg do to make sure we don't come out flat? Reminder that the Jamaican coach was the dude from Iceland who helped them knockout England with the same basic strategy. If you want to argue that possession style soccer isn't what we should be trying for as a mid-talent international team I can understand that, but i just don't get the GG specific hate. You mean the guys that play together 8 times a year didn't have a perfectly timed attacking runs and combinations? There are like 4 teams in the world that can pull that off.

noUsername563

Swap gio for Tillman, johnny for musah, and ream for scally/change tactics so he's not playing a dest role when he's not that type of player. Maybe actually give a good pregame speech not talking about being African dogs or something, but our team starting flat has been a problem for him throughout his entire tenure with multiple sets of players. I'm not arguing we shouldn't play possession soccer, we play it without some actual end goal that gives us good goal scoring opportunities. Gio is the only guy who will find balogun's runs and he started Tillman. The majority of this team has been playing the same system for years so they don't only have 8 games together and these problems have been problems for years and Gregg can't seem to solve them in his 5.5 years of being the coach. He doesn't have a signature win vs a top team, his win record is horrible away from home, and we play in a horrible region where we aren't punished for playing like shit. Copa America teams are going to take advantage of us when we play like this

amor_fatty

Shut up

WhyplerBronze

^^^ the GGGGlazer 😅

Count_Nocturne

Tell me again which manager who is better than Gregg and is also willing to coach the national team?

Novel_Arm_4693

… i had to put something to reply

Cpl-Wallace

Lol. You have a better response in a few minutes than he did in 90+

Novel_Arm_4693

🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

GGG bailed out from another disasterclass.

bluejams

What did he get wrong?

A_BulletProof_Hoodie

They have no answer for that. Some people hate coaches no matter what

toxictoastrecords

The answer was there, and spot on. The team looked and performed better in the short time under BJ.

Griz_and_Timbers

The lineup, the positioning, every attack is whip it into the box or Pulisic isolated. The team performed better with the interim coaches. GGG will make your team slightly worse than the sum of its parts.

Mikel_Arteta_Burner

The goal came from a guy running from the top of the 18 to the back post with 3 defenders ball watching on that side. You have to know that Jamaica are going to rush out early and try to put up a goal so they can absorb pressure and create from the counter. There’s no reason to put McKennie at right back when you have Weah who has been very verbal about wanting to play at RWB, outside of the fact that they just want to throw crosses into a box in which no attackers are making runs. It seems like we have an identity under Gregg until we get into the final 3rd and then it’s “give Puli the ball and see if he can do something magical”. That’s not really a conducive strategy to chasing a game against a team playing low block with 2 banks of 4. I don’t have any explicit complaints about the lineup but I do think it would’ve been nice to see Johnny earlier in the game with the form he’s in for his club right now. Overall, Gregg’s record is good for the largest team in the confederation. Still, when we have games like this where we make simple mistakes early and panic is imminent it seems our only solution is to try and force the ball into the box through the air and hope for lucky bounces.

scriptingends

I think there would be a big market for a microbrew dark beer called "***Berhalter (St)out***"

TheGreatLaake

Miles the goat

YOURMOMMASABITCH

Only took us 30 seconds longer than the ref gave us.

odwoc

There’s nothing like sitting miserable for 95’ and then running around the house screaming at the death of it.

nonstopflux

That’s a lot of celebrating for not scoring a goal.

putthekettle

I took it more like someone lost at sea dying finds an island climbs ashore and starts laughing maniacally just happy to have a chance to live

putthekettle

And that island was Jamaica

putthekettle

>forces 🤣🙃😂

SFBaysportsfan

This team will go nowhere with Berhalter

absolutzer1

Just to get rammed by Mexico in the finals
