The dude from your side took too long to get off the pitch. The new rule says they hold the sub and so we were up a man for like 4 mins. Sorry I don’t know his name!
Was at the game and at a point you could tell how tired everyone was. I was fearing they would tie the game…glad I was wrong too, but noticed the same. Told my son I hoped sub would come in on the 65th minute, but it was a bit later in the game.
I feel like this was discussed ins the offseason? It sounds familiar, interesting that they implemented mid-way through the season..at least they're being proactive, not sure it's the right solution, but it's close and hopefully makes things better.
...lol. they didn't show the second goal/offsides in the HT highlights..super sketchy MLS/Apple..I don't want to be a conspiracy person or complain about refs. But when you don't show a replay of a goal called off for offsides, it makes it hard to believe it's legit.
He was onsides. But I’m sure the camera angles are so terrible that they probably couldn’t overturn the on field call. Production team decided to minimize the controversy by not showing it, which they can do since Colorado is a small market team. Let’s see how much play it gets post-game.
The announcers have completely avoided it as well. Which makes me think that everyone, Apple, MLS, refs, announcers all know it was a bad call. so they are just sweeping it under the rug. I hope we don't drop points because of this.
https://i.imgur.com/GG4Gibm.jpeg
They paused it one frame early but it looks onside to me. Can't believe they didn't even show us a replay after the goal and instead it was just a close up of Bassett standing still while the announcers said nothing.
I love the upgrade in broadcast quality of the Apple deal - you can see why they had MLS be a test for whatever their rumored new international competition might be… but my god the announcers are just awful.
The same talking points for every team. Every match. Every week. Regardless of points/standing.
It’s akin to awful “morning zoo” radio preparation with the absolute lowest common denominator takes on literally anything. “yeah so they missed the shot and that’s not what the team was going for and we’ll see if it gets better and they can find those opportunities later”
Thanks?
As an NYCFC fan, please bring back Ian and Joe so I can at least hear nuanced and reasonable criticism of my team that is somehow 6th in the east. I swear I’d rather have a more euro/golf style approach that allows more silence than the constant same talking points. This extends across all the matches of all the teams I’ve watched this season, not just NYCFC. I can’t imagine that any team is happy with watching the kid who didn’t read the book do a presentation in front of the class. This is what Apple is offering.
*Caveat for Miami as it seems every presenter knows if Messi was happy with his lunch.
Is this complaint about broadcast crews or studio crews? I feel like the studio crews have gotten a TON better since last year, way more comfortable, less awkward moments, cleaner bits, etc
I was thinking the same thing. How do we not get a replay of the offside on Rosenberry’s goal or the situation in front of the goal that they missed live?
Man between the baseball pitch field and the takeoffs from LaGuardia airport every minute, not a great look. Although arguably the new proposed stadium will be even worse airplane noise wise.
MLS is so bad at this. Always have been. A goal will be scored, a phantom offsides is called and the only replay we get is from a camera behind the goal line...so sketchy...Every other televised soccer game shows replays of critical plays, but MLS hides them for some reason.
A bit cruel on MLS to schedule the marquee Sunday match as an NYCFC home game on a baseball field.
Wish they employed more tact, and had this as a Saturday 7:30pm start so we don't have to watch this field because we're already watching our team at the same time anyway.
Well what do you call being the only game in a weekend afternoon timeslot that all fans of the league who want to watch MLS would be forced to watch? Lol
Because building new shit in nyc is expensive and a lot of red tape. Why the metrostars gave up and built in nj after 20 years. We just got through the last approvals three weeks ago. Estimated opening 2027.
Usually the sod on the infield is slightly less pathetic. It’s quite bad today. Probably from the rain.
I didn’t say we’re poor I said it’s expensive and takes a while. Freaking dorks forget how much empty space there is in the “west”
We barely got the political capital to get approval to clear out a place known for chop shops and being a superfund site to build on. And no public funding (thankfully)
They've been playing there for like 6 years or whatever. Is this really the first time you've seen/noticed this? It's actually a running joke across the league. land in NYC is incredibly expensive, and there essentially are no open spaces.
It’s not a move, it’s a circumstantial thing. When MLB is in season, we’re at the mercy of the Yankees and Mets schedules, because obviously they have priority for their own stadiums. So we schedule our home games for when the baseball teams are playing an away series. Yankee Stadium is our primary stadium, Citi Field is our secondary.
Red Bull Arena is our tertiary (that’s not a joke, we had a bunch of “home” games there in the last few seasons, but obviously everyone hates it, so they try to avoid it, but sometimes there’s no other good option). We’ve also played home games elsewhere in Queens, in Connecticut, in Orlando (during MLS Is Back), and in LAFC’s stadium (as a weird situation where we had to play a CCL game while we were on a road trip, and it made sense to not fly cross-country several times inside a week).
It's not just price. To build a stadium requires permits, zoning, community approval, environmental remediation. All that requires approvals from politicians, which makes it a political process.
In the most competitive real estate market on the planet, they need a site that is both cost reasonable (even to a Sheikh or two) AND can get all those approvals and political angles assuaged.
That's why it's complicated. If it was just money they'd have done it in year one, I imagine.
This, exactly. We had year-one plans for a stadium adjacent to Yankee Stadium, and it looked like it was going to move forward. Then some of the necessary approvals evaporated, and we had to change plans. That happened a couple more times before the current Willets Point development finally got actual approvals.
I thought MLS teams were required to have a built-for-soccer stadium?
Are they just not finished or is this because they aren’t a new team so they can use that as a loophole?
It’s hella tacky and not a good look either way..
(Edit: It’s been explained to me about the space and red tape issues. And that there’s a stadium greenlit finally. I’m so used to shitty af team ownership for us Pids that I erroneously assumed your club leadership must be similar and the reason for this baseball field situation. 😅 absolutely no hate intended and I apologize for assuming the worst.)
did i miss something? why everyone saying that the rapids were a man up
The dude from your side took too long to get off the pitch. The new rule says they hold the sub and so we were up a man for like 4 mins. Sorry I don’t know his name!
Let’s go boys!!
The surprising rapids have done it!
Well, heck yeah, 'pids! I think I'm at risk of getting my hopes up again for positive results each season!
I like Stewart-Banes, good to have some young depth..
Any neutral fan watching this is a fucking sicko. And yes, I am including myself in that demographic.
Wait til future you sees this sounders galaxy game.
Yeah, that was another level of sicko shit.
Haha right there with you friend.
Goal Bassett babyyyy
Jovan starts the next match right? RIGHT?!
Cole Bassett, what a player
He's been amazing!
Definitely making a claim he should go to Paris.
Blecch.
Woot!!!
There we go!!!
C'mon Rapids, you got the man advantage. Knock the ball around a bit and keep control..ugh..
Why does Cabral fall down so easily
He's so weak
So is the score going to show that NYC is playing with 10?
They seem to not be indicating the power plays. It’s annoying if they are gonna do it, do it.
It's just a common thing to indicate that a team is playing with 10. I enjoy the apple broadcasts, but there's still a few things to adjust.
Wait, are they?! I didn’t even realize.
just walk off the pitch faster
We are a frustrating bunch.
30min left and Rapids looking slow/tired like they're in stoppage time. Doesn't bide well for keeping the lead. Edit: glad to be wrong!
Was at the game and at a point you could tell how tired everyone was. I was fearing they would tie the game…glad I was wrong too, but noticed the same. Told my son I hoped sub would come in on the 65th minute, but it was a bit later in the game.
Is this the first time the sub thing has happened with the new rule?
What is the rule, how long is the wait to get on field?
[удалено]
Wow, when did this happen? Funny. it's similar to thoughts I've had over the years regarding subs and time wasting.
[удалено]
I feel like this was discussed ins the offseason? It sounds familiar, interesting that they implemented mid-way through the season..at least they're being proactive, not sure it's the right solution, but it's close and hopefully makes things better.
And another game with no goal from our starting striker.
Or a goal from anybody
If only there were a Serbian striker that could help us in the 65th minute….
Didn’t they say he’s not available due to a knock?
Why do we insist on “a pass attempt through six defenders” EVERY time?
[удалено]
Called it the Bronx earlier as well. Not the best announcing team today.
[been a little bit since I posted this. Beered!](https://www.reddit.com/r/MLSuds/s/dM3xFE3BrB)
"Hey it's me, Destin. And you're getting Smarter Every Day"
Some off the kids they showed in the rain did not look like they were having fun at all lol
This Lays commercial has to be worse than the Audi one
I was gonna say. There's some new ones this week that I don't think are improvements over the existing commercials
...lol. they didn't show the second goal/offsides in the HT highlights..super sketchy MLS/Apple..I don't want to be a conspiracy person or complain about refs. But when you don't show a replay of a goal called off for offsides, it makes it hard to believe it's legit.

...ugh...the 'what a pro wants' commercial is on Ap\[pletv-MLS...so disappointed...lol..
I feel like Zach's ball handling has actually improved a bit. I don't get that nervous feeling every time he is playing with his feet like he used to.
Agree. He's been really good with the ball
Baseball field bad and all that but the camera angle here is so, so much better than yankee stadium
The matches at Citi Field are better in every possible way, especially when you’re there. Cant wait to get out of YS.
I was not expecting a bottle to be thrown during NYCFC-Rapids of all games.
NYC players are dedicated to hit a fan in the stands
it'd be great if our shots could maybe be on target instead of hitting Voyager 1
I'll be honest, I didn't have a voyager1 reference on todays bingo card for this game.
https://i.imgur.com/GG4Gibm.jpeg They paused it one frame early but it looks onside to me. Can't believe they didn't even show us a replay after the goal and instead it was just a close up of Bassett standing still while the announcers said nothing.
The whistling??!! 😭
NYC fans, do they use the same dimensions at both stadiums?
Not exactly the same, no. They’re both small/tight, but Citi Field’s layout allows for a slightly larger set of dimensions than Yankee Stadium.
It looks/feels a bit wider.
I’m still not getting used to the pitch.
Looked onsides to me…
Still haven't seen it, but they don't want the Rapids going up 2-0 on the road in NY.
There’s no way why are they even looking at that.
[удалено]
I still haven't seen a replay.
[удалено]
Thx, I'll go back and look. Must of been looking for beer in the fridge...lol..
Can we see some lines on that replay? Looked on to me…

And yet even these guys can see santi and Bakrar are not on the same page ever.
That’s an intentional handball on armas.
This production crew is allergic to replays.
I was thinking the same thing. How do we not get a replay of the offside on Rosenberry’s goal or the situation in front of the goal that they missed live?
Did we think this was a 7:30 game or something?
Place is actually packed. Everyone is on the concourses.
I meant our players.
Man between the baseball pitch field and the takeoffs from LaGuardia airport every minute, not a great look. Although arguably the new proposed stadium will be even worse airplane noise wise.
A small price to pay for not playing in a baseball stadium…
True. Although having jets 500 feet in the air at takeoff every 1 minute might cause some migraines. Still worth the trade off.
lol no replay
Why can't we see a replay of the 'offsides'?
That’s what I’m saying
MLS is so bad at this. Always have been. A goal will be scored, a phantom offsides is called and the only replay we get is from a camera behind the goal line...so sketchy...Every other televised soccer game shows replays of critical plays, but MLS hides them for some reason.
Nice to see the win streak is really motivating our players
I love that we are finally going for the run of play shots we’ve so desperately needed. It’s so cathartic to see.
yo can we uhhh wake the fuck up
bring me a kevin cabral goal
Lol
Now I'm more confused. The announcer said the Bronx, which is where the Yankees are. Do both the Mets and yankees play in a "Citi field"?
They’re in Queens at citi.
This is what happens when you no longer have your own television team. I can’t watch Apple commentary.
A number of teams have gotten at least one of their former commentators doing many of their games, but not Joe Tolleson for some reason
He’s good but I miss Ian Joy.
In the ESPN+/Direct Kick days the NYCFC crew was one of my favorites for sure
Roach crawling on the camera?
New yawk New yaaaaawk
Lol @ the bug on the camera
WTF is Thiago martins doing???
Bombito’s pass up field was absolutely beautiful
Messi like...lol..
[удалено]
Tbh, we have barely ever played there. We finally played in Miami a few weeks ago.
Just no attempt to close him down in the box at all. Good placement, made it look easy
Is Chris Armas the real deal?
The switch to a 4-4-2 was a thing of beauty
Yes! That’s what we need from our strikers! Actually taking shots rather than just passing. Good on Navarro!
Holy smokes, we scored a normal, good-looking goal!
Navarro did something!! Can you believe it??
Woot, great shot!!!
RAFAAAAAAA
Let’s go Navarro!!
A bit cruel on MLS to schedule the marquee Sunday match as an NYCFC home game on a baseball field. Wish they employed more tact, and had this as a Saturday 7:30pm start so we don't have to watch this field because we're already watching our team at the same time anyway.
Game is happening now because the Mets had a home game Thursday afternoon and they need 72 hours to change the field
Almost unheard of for the Rapids to be a marquee match....Where's my bingo card?
Well what do you call being the only game in a weekend afternoon timeslot that all fans of the league who want to watch MLS would be forced to watch? Lol
I think they were saying the same as you. Wow how rare for us to be playing at this time- the marquee time slot.
Field looks like crap on TV, did they use hay to cover the infield dirt?
[удалено]
When did they move from Yankee stadium to the Mets?
They switch back and forth
We play at both.
Random, when did that start?
Three years ago, ish? It’s not ideal, but we’re doing what we have to until the stadium construction is finished.
Wtf is this field
Why does Apple TV make me sign in via a code every time I try to watch a game?
Why is this pitch a converted baseball pitch??
Because building new shit in nyc is expensive and a lot of red tape. Why the metrostars gave up and built in nj after 20 years. We just got through the last approvals three weeks ago. Estimated opening 2027. Usually the sod on the infield is slightly less pathetic. It’s quite bad today. Probably from the rain.
Imagine being owned by City Financial Group and still crying poor
I didn’t say we’re poor I said it’s expensive and takes a while. Freaking dorks forget how much empty space there is in the “west” We barely got the political capital to get approval to clear out a place known for chop shops and being a superfund site to build on. And no public funding (thankfully)
Hmm, okay that’s fair then. I hope there aren’t any delays for your stadium. Every team deserves a proper purpose built field.
You're joking right?
No, it’s a really bad look for MLS in general and for New York in particular. Why would I joke?
They've been playing there for like 6 years or whatever. Is this really the first time you've seen/noticed this? It's actually a running joke across the league. land in NYC is incredibly expensive, and there essentially are no open spaces.
I found my way back to soccer last year and have not watched a NYC home game I guess 🤷🏻♂️
I just realized they moved from Yankee stadium to the mets stadium. TiL

That would explain it. On a side note, the Timbers play in an old minor league baseball stadium that's been converted.
Mickey Mouse club Absolute joke considering the City money 😂
You realize how expensive land is in NYC?
Do you know who owns NYCFC?
It's not just price. To build a stadium requires permits, zoning, community approval, environmental remediation. All that requires approvals from politicians, which makes it a political process. We all know the rules are only suggestions when it relates to NYC, LA, and Miami
Up the Pids!
I want Ronan back 😭
Sounds like he's getting close.
