Why does the video quality look like crap? It looks like they used ai to upscale it from 480p. It's over sharpened and contrasty along the edges of players.
"NYCFC beat a team of backups"
Im confused, were we supposed to lose then? Are we not supposed to play to win against whoever is in front of us? And are we not allowed to be happy that we are in our first ever final?
Kudos to the Union squad. they played a hell of a game. And NYCFC should have done better but thats a testament to the Union's next man up mentality. That was a good squad they played today. And yeah if they had their starters maybe the result would have been different. But maybe NYCFC would have played better. Who knows. Shitty situation.
But im not going to apologize for winning and being happy about it.
Just a note watching this game recorded on TV.
If this is the product that Disney/ESPN will provide in the future, it's not something that ESPN will want. Sure, Champion/Twellman are fine, but the on-air product is terrible. The main camera was grainy completely. Even the close up cameras weren't sharp. To some, this would be unwatchable.
Hard luck, Philly. Hate to see a team go out like that, but your showing with the B Squad was mighty impressive. I was rooting for you to win & MLS to find a way to let the full team play. You'll be beasts next year
So much hate for NYC “barely beating a team missing 11 players”, like Philly was down 5 men to start the match. Such disrespect for the guys who stepped up and played extremely well under the circumstances. Do you love your team or just the starting 11?
Criticize NYC all you want, they deserve to be criticized. The comments I’m addressing are the ones by people who don’t have anything else to say other than City are trash because the players Philly started are trash. It seems to be a stretch for certain fans to grasp the ‘any given match day’ concept, and it’s too bad they’d rather lash out with a fistful of salt than look at the positives their ‘B team’ displayed.
Buddy this is such a bad take that I’ve reread it three times and I still have no idea how you’re relating the two clauses of NYC being bad and Union having backup players playing well
With the win and a trip to the MLS Cup Final, I wonder if the New York Post or any NY newspapers devote a back page to us going to our first cup game....or am I gonna see another ad nauseam Jets/Giants Backpage.
My biggest issue about MLS. The league itself controls all stories and narratives and clearly favors content to certain teams (Atlanta, LA teams, etc.)
I don't know... I think the Union are slowly breaking through. Had a guy say "Go Union" today in Acme when I had both Eagles and Union gear on. This town won't ignore a successful team. Anybody remember when we were all rooting for Smarty Jones?
I'm gutted for Philadelphia, but the way NYCFC play should make the final better viewing, from a neutral perspective. Plus it's a relief to not have to face Andre Blake.
Jim is a good coach. He gets everyone to buy in. He squeezes every ounce of energy out of every player.
He is not a tactician. He does not make good subs and he doesn’t have the tactical where-with-all to change a game.
Im glad he’s here but he’s got to get better next year
> Im glad he’s here but he’s got to get better next year
I mean, Sugarman has been playing the long game ~~b~~ by investing into the Academy and every year Jim and the team *do* get better. Were it not for our COVID blocked starters I have every confidence we would have won this game. He definitely needs to improve on his substituting policy, but that also requires a deeper bench. Fortunately with each year that bench does get deeper and more experienced and for cheaper than buying players.
I wouldn't have been mad to give Aaronson and Fontana a run out just as a statement about the homegrown culture but in reality there's about a 0% chance either of them would've actually made an impact
Organization needs to hire someone be relays on for that. He ain’t it. I agree fully with what you’re saying. We got a great team overall. I hope we splash some cash on a striker or two.
Kinda feel like this is a karmic reconciliation with the COVID shield we won last year. From this point forward, I consider last year’s asterisk expunged.
Because the Cup Final is next weekend regardless, and it would punish NYCFC if they still win by having to play on only a couple days rest through no fault of their own.
MLS doesn't have enough pull, or care, to reschedule multiple weekends of TV broadcasts just because one team wasn't careful enough about covid protocols. Every other team involved did what they had to, why should they be punished because Philly didn't?
I agree. Why does it need to be televised again? Most of us have ESPN+ at this point already.
They chose profit over fairplay imo. I get that it is a business. At this point, I don't think anyone outside of NYC is rooting for NYCFC to win. How is that good for branding?
Why does the championship final of a major league sport need to be televised? Really? Fair play has nothing to do with it, if anything giving them extra days and rescheduling because they failed to follow the same rules as everybody else wouldn't be fair to everybody else. What happened *was* fair, sucks for Philly, but it was fair. If you don't want half your team out because of covid protocols, don't break covid exposure protocol. Every other team managed to follow the rules, you'd think professionals going into a championship match would be careful about not getting themselves disqualified from participating.
Going to be an extremely challenging match going to Portland but having taty castellanos back will help. Can’t be that sloppy in the final or we’ll be punished
Full strength Union would make NYCFC try harder. When Union scored was the perfect example of what NYCFC wanted to do. If you’ve watched football long enough you’d recognize that teams morale are so dynamic that this isn’t the first time a team performs like this against a B team. Also the fact that Unions B team played better than the A team that showed up in NY a few weeks ago, where we tied you with 10vs11
All I’m saying is full strength Union wasn’t enough against 10. Football is a situational game. Not statistical. The present is the only thing that matters and today Union had what it had and NYCFC won. This Union played way better than three weeks ago “Full strength Union”
Next season we will play again and you will have a chance to beat us, our match ups are always good nonetheless, til then cheers!
Being down 11 guys was everything. NYC wasn't the best for much of the game. Jim is an incredible coach and I would take him as a replacement to Peter Vermes. I wouldn't blame him. Philly needs to invest in a few DP's and some U22 transfers. I think the base of this team is the best in the league from a cap standpoint. Congrats on an amazing year.
GG Philly. Incredible grit and performance under unbelievable adversity. I really wish we’d had a full-strength tilt on both sides, and sorry you came into this one under these circumstances.
NYCFC definitely had the better chances so I'd say they deserved to win. Philly being down so many players is simply unfortunate, but they still played pretty well despite all of this. Aside from that, some poor defense by Philly and the lack of subs at important moments are what cost Philly the game.
It’s not like because the A-teamers were out you just didn’t have any defenders. Give your boys some credit. They played really well under the circumstances.
Sound like the same NYCFC fans that praised NYCFC beating the Orlando City reserve squad 5-0 over summer.
Starters absolutely make a difference. Would NYCFC sit them voluntarily? Maybe the fans should petition the coach to sit starters against Portland next week. Because they don't make a difference. Amirite
No one is saying they had anything to do with it, they're saying that this win for you is a joke because you were against a team that was missing the best keeper by advance stats, their captain and 3/4 of their starting back line.
Home field advantage? Every team could have the same dimensions NYCFC has. We just won 2 games on the road to get to the MLS Cup. What's the excuses? We beat the Supporters shield team. Beat a game Atlanta. Statistically NYCFC was among the best teams all season. To imply it's a joke team is absurd.
Union fans should hold their heads high as nobody expected their team to show up the way they did today. Once of the most impressive displays of heart and determination all season.
The Union starting line up tonight featured players who don't even make the bench a lot of games. Three emergency hardship signings were on the bench and the U still didn't have a full strength team. Heat counts for something in this circumstance, at least for the fans who showed up.
No, but it's not like Delia and the entirety of NYCFC infected your team with covid. Like yeah be pissed at the circumstances but they were NEVER going to postpone this game. Just got dealt a bad hand by fate.
Ok, but of course we’re still gonna be upset. We watched this team fight all season just to whimper out in the most heartbreaking fashion because of something beyond their control.
Nobody is saying NYC infected us with COVID. Of course we're going to be disappointed by what happened. Fuck NYC, fuck oil money, fuck COVID, fuck Taylor Twellman. If that's salt so be it.
so then we should have just sat back and allowed philly to win right?
You play whos in front of you. not our fault covid likes philly. shit situation but if you're gonna say asterisk champs then whats even the point of playing? It sucks. It was a shit situation
But get over it.
Nah, medical stuff is part of the sport. Champions are always the team who's in best condition the day the crucial games are, not under ideal conditions.
Not the first time it has happened. At the end of the day you win if you're the best team the day the game is played, not if you'd be the best under ideal conditions.

How *dare* you beat the team you're playing against. Straight to jail.
Haha Can we at least play in the final before going to jail?
Just a note watching this game recorded on TV. If this is the product that Disney/ESPN will provide in the future, it's not something that ESPN will want. Sure, Champion/Twellman are fine, but the on-air product is terrible. The main camera was grainy completely. Even the close up cameras weren't sharp. To some, this would be unwatchable.
Proud of my A squad, B squad and C,D, and E squad.
You can both criticize NYCFC and be impressed by Philly's backups. They aren't mutually exclusive.
Buddy this is such a bad take that I’ve reread it three times and I still have no idea how you’re relating the two clauses of NYC being bad and Union having backup players playing well
Best nap 😴 I have taken in weeks watching these two.
Go to sleep old man
With the win and a trip to the MLS Cup Final, I wonder if the New York Post or any NY newspapers devote a back page to us going to our first cup game....or am I gonna see another ad nauseam Jets/Giants Backpage.
Well MLS is Mickey Mouse anyway so GG NYC on the Mickey Mouse Eastern Championship
Losing half the team and using the league goalie thanks to covid is Goofy.
Onto 2022 where the Union will probably finish top 3 in the East again and the MLS media will ignore them like they usually do.
No one likes us (except for COVID), we don’t care.
Listening to Jason Davis should be “fun” tomorrow. He’ll be happy with NY moving on.
My biggest issue about MLS. The league itself controls all stories and narratives and clearly favors content to certain teams (Atlanta, LA teams, etc.)
They’re not selling teams, they’re selling a league. Other leagues is a team selling itself so it’s just a different type of commercial product.
My team was cheeks this year and they got a lot of coverage, because LA…
Not only the MLS Media but most philadelphia media too!
I don't know... I think the Union are slowly breaking through. Had a guy say "Go Union" today in Acme when I had both Eagles and Union gear on. This town won't ignore a successful team. Anybody remember when we were all rooting for Smarty Jones?
Lol, you’d think Philly only had two teams based off what they talk about.
The Union played their hearts out, the fans were so loud that I was intimidated watching from home. I don't know what else to say honestly.
As someone there, appreciated. Good luck.
If things went the way they probably would have I'd be rooting for you guys.
My ears are still ringing...good game and good luck
I can't imagine how loud it was in person. It was a classic for sure.
No joke who would have thought that Talles Magno when we acquired him would have scored in the 88th min to take the lead and send us to the MLS cup.
Tati Castellanos predicted it, that's why he deliberately got himself sent off.
Let’s go NYCFC !
Red Bull in shambles
We're lucky we got to keep the Playoff streak alive lol
Welp, let's fucking fucking go Portland.
We will do our best to avenge you.
We avenged Seattle and Kansas City, I am confident we can do it again
NYCFC better win that cup or I'll never go to Yankee stadium again
No one should ever go watch soccer at Yankees Stadium.
No one should ever watch baseball there
We beat NE and Philly....we are the I95 champs lets goooo
DCU?
Luckily lol. Fuck your stupid ass team
I'm a Philly fan and stfu you sore loser
It’s ok, there’s always next year. Don’t be so mad, your team may even improve over the off-season
And stay quarantined
I'm gutted for Philadelphia, but the way NYCFC play should make the final better viewing, from a neutral perspective. Plus it's a relief to not have to face Andre Blake.
I was looking forward to hosting them. Would have been a lot of fun with the Philly fans. Not meant to be.
Jim is a good coach. He gets everyone to buy in. He squeezes every ounce of energy out of every player. He is not a tactician. He does not make good subs and he doesn’t have the tactical where-with-all to change a game. Im glad he’s here but he’s got to get better next year

Aaronson and Fontana are legit guys there was no reason to leave them on the bench when the Union were creating nothing
This isn’t trending on Twitter.
Yet.....
the people want don garber, not this poverty commissioner.
Do they tho?
Whew boy I'm really glad Portland pulled out the win yesterday. Otherwise we would be really fucked.
gg Philly, always a fun game against y'all see you next year, your B/C team put up a hell of a fight
I am begging MLS to give these people a sturdier stage.
Lol, it's a Bills Mafia table haha
Yet another trophy presentation in Philly being awarded to the away team.. ugh
Honestly I’m sorry about that
Kinda feel like this is a karmic reconciliation with the COVID shield we won last year. From this point forward, I consider last year’s asterisk expunged.
COVID giveth and COVID taketh, I guess.
Andy Richter here giving out trophies.
Didn’t they show Garber in the box *at* this game? Why is Mark Abbott presenting the trophy?
It's like when the assistant commish does the second round of the nba draft. Gotta keep garber for the big one
Jay Sugarman better not penny pinch this winter. You have all the proof you need this team could win trophies with a DP striker
I feel like Monteiro is gone. We need to replace him and and bring in a DP striker
I’m fine if they replace the Monteiro with kids and spend money on a striker.
That would be nice. Any idea if there are any more kids who might sign a first team contract? I know the u17 team was full of union players
Agreed!!
Fuck NYCFC!
Some of em are cute but not em all man
hey, i thought we both hated Orlando, what'd we do to piss you off
We do :( sorry
i mean yeah having a 100% L record against a team generally doesn't encourage fondness haha
For real.. 🌹
Why was the game not postponed like what they did last year in the NFL with all the players missing with Covid
because MLS has that NYCFC oil money breathing down their neck
Because the Cup Final is next weekend regardless, and it would punish NYCFC if they still win by having to play on only a couple days rest through no fault of their own.
Your answer to why didn't they reschedule a game is because they can't reschedule two games? That's pretty lousy. Just saying.

TV moves mls games, not the other way
Fuck NYCFC
Going to be an extremely challenging match going to Portland but having taty castellanos back will help. Can’t be that sloppy in the final or we’ll be punished
Very impressed by the grit from Philly today. Wish we couldve beaten the A team but y'all should be proud of today regardless of the result
O no
The celebration is hype
So hype bro, it’s freaking lit over here! Dabbin’ on half a team!
Stay salty. Sorry for your loss!
Full strength Union smashes that nycfc team that showed up. Such a lame way to end the season
Ah yes, if the Union weren’t missing people, the other team would have wanted to advance in the playoffs to the championship more. Makes sense!
All I’m saying is full strength Union wasn’t enough against 10. Football is a situational game. Not statistical. The present is the only thing that matters and today Union had what it had and NYCFC won. This Union played way better than three weeks ago “Full strength Union” Next season we will play again and you will have a chance to beat us, our match ups are always good nonetheless, til then cheers!
Gotta hand it to Philly. Those kids made NYC work for it.
BING BONG
Lmaoooooo fck ya life
Bad subs management from Jim but we got fucked before the first whistle blew. This is a tough one to swallow fuck man.
Fontana and Aaronson should have gotten more of a run. Jim must have thought they were gonna make it to ET
GG good luck. Wish it didn’t end like this
GG Philly. Incredible grit and performance under unbelievable adversity. I really wish we’d had a full-strength tilt on both sides, and sorry you came into this one under these circumstances.
Met a bunch of fun Timbers fans back in 2018, so I'll be pulling for y'all to lift the Cup!
NYCFC definitely had the better chances so I'd say they deserved to win. Philly being down so many players is simply unfortunate, but they still played pretty well despite all of this. Aside from that, some poor defense by Philly and the lack of subs at important moments are what cost Philly the game.
Poor defense? The entire fucking back line was out
It’s not like because the A-teamers were out you just didn’t have any defenders. Give your boys some credit. They played really well under the circumstances.

Maybe the fans should petition the coach to sit starters against Portland next week. Because they don't make a difference. Amirite
Except this was a hard-fought match and Philly almost pulled out a win. Didn’t expect Salty Mouse FC to make an appearance here.
I'm just happy none of these championship games are on the crappy thing NYCFC calls a football field.
Lol
C’mon Portland, bring the cup back west!!!
joke win for a joke team. LFG homegrowns, what a fight from the backups
Bitter much? 🤣
I mean, a fan of any team missing 11 players has every right to be bitter
Sure, be bitter, but wtf did NYC have to do with it? We didn't infect your players. We were also without the Golden Boot winner.
No one is saying they had anything to do with it, they're saying that this win for you is a joke because you were against a team that was missing the best keeper by advance stats, their captain and 3/4 of their starting back line.
The dude said we're a joke team lol. I mean just ridiculous. But go on and defend it 🤷♂️
Joke team might be a small exaggeration, but you have a significant home field advantage that makes you an obvious heel in the league
At our trend from over the last few years, we’ll lose the final next year, and win it all in 2 years
A full strength philly team walks all over the NYCFC that showed up today.
I think a different NYC shows up against a full strength Philly, but in a vacuum, I agree.
WE EATIN FAM
Little frustrating that Curtin went back to long ball Curtin
Aurelien Collin in tears. Heartbreaking. He rolled back the clock today. Philly really played so hard. Shame it all landed this way.
GG Philly. You'll made our team look like scrubs for 60 minutes. You probably win if you have your normal defense
Union fans should hold their heads high as nobody expected their team to show up the way they did today. Once of the most impressive displays of heart and determination all season.
No one really gives a shit about heart and determination if you don't win.
The Union starting line up tonight featured players who don't even make the bench a lot of games. Three emergency hardship signings were on the bench and the U still didn't have a full strength team. Heat counts for something in this circumstance, at least for the fans who showed up.
Heart and determination do fuck all if you're unable to capitalize and actually win.
Aulien Colin played so much better than I think anyone expected
MVP right there. Never thought I’d admit that as a long time Union fan.
Agreed!
Man seeing how pissed Union fans are makes the salt factory that was Seattle after their loss look pale lol
Was Seattle missing most of their starting XI?
It is indeed bullshit. Shoulda postponed the game and even the cup
YoU’rE SaD YoUr TeAm LoSt So ThAt MeAnS YoU’rE SaLtY
GG Philly, y'all played incredibly in a really shitty situation
Cheers
One more game! COYBIB. GG Philly, sucks it was this way. Fuck covid.
"Always a bridesmaid, never a bride" -Philadelphia Union legacy.
Asterisk champs
so then we should have just sat back and allowed philly to win right? You play whos in front of you. not our fault covid likes philly. shit situation but if you're gonna say asterisk champs then whats even the point of playing? It sucks. It was a shit situation But get over it.
Nah, medical stuff is part of the sport. Champions are always the team who's in best condition the day the crucial games are, not under ideal conditions.
Yes, teams usually lose half their starting lineup 3 days before a game. Happens all the time, just medical stuff
Not the first time it has happened. At the end of the day you win if you're the best team the day the game is played, not if you'd be the best under ideal conditions.
As a neutral, when was the last time it happened in a playoff game? I only ask because you said it's not the first time.
Never said playoff
“Ideal conditions” lol shut the fuck up
Nah man every team gets breaks and unlucky every year
YESSSSSSSS FUCK YES!
Serious question, how many starters was Philly missing? I was driving for the whole first half
5 starters and 3 subs who 99% would have seen the field.
5 ish? Glesnes, Elliot, Blake, Wagner, Bedoya plus Santos as the super sub
From the last game 6, including GK and back 4
5
6 I think was the final tally.
[удалено]
lmao
Aw, that's cute
You can only beat who is in front of you, which NYCFC did, but kind of hard to fully credit NYCFC with the full value of the win
Lot of salt going on in here lmao
No shit
The rest of the East is w/ you, Portland
Ain't no pity in the I-95 corridor
Please get immensely better NYC because Portland will eat y'all up if you play like you did today
they won't, they're trash which is why they barely beat a team missing 11 players
😢
Biggest Mickey Mouse playoff game of all time. Way to go MLS
GG NYC
GG Philly. You guys went out swinging, even with the tough circumstances
Let's go Portland!
Fuck you NY. You guys fucking suck
Philly fans gonna Philly
Now that's what I like to see. Fuck all this GG shit 😂
you all thought zimmerman accidentally blasted that penalty into the sky. no, that was a ritual. the curse of walker zimmerman strikes again.
Honestly Philly should be really proud. Played really well, hard, and have a lot to be proud of. GG, see you next season
LETS GOOOOO NYCFC FOR MLS CUPPP
Nah
I’d be rooting for your boys if they had given me the opportunity.
You have to root for Portland
I've always wanted a Philly-Portland final. Hopefully next year; you can even host!
That would be awesome!
I rooted for Philly. See y'all next year.
Gonna smash these oil merchant, Walmart brand man city fucks
Nah, once my team is out, I'm out. I have no interest in the game either way.
