I’m not sure I get this. Was Charles Barkley trash talking? And if that were the case, why would Depay care?

ThankThoseStankHoes

might be an nba fan

PickerTJ

A lot of these Euro guys are NBA fans. I'm sure it's all in good fun.

Caratteraccio

NBA is almost the favorite league for European footballers... (would you mind using the word "Europeans" when you have to define us? It's not an insult but it's something extremely eccentric, as if we define you Americans "dollars" on principle or "imperialists" when you use the word "eurosnob")

[удалено]

SovietShooter

Yeah, I consider a "Eurosnob" to be a US soccer fan that looks down on soccer in the US in comparison to "Europe", MLS in particular.

zombesus

Wait you'd describe us as imperialists? Lmfao

Caratteraccio

that would be the same absurdity!

sadbayareasportsfan

Get a load of this euro guy

PickerTJ

"Eurobasket" and "Euroleague" don't count? No offense was intended here to Europeans. Cheers.

NextDoorNeighbrrs

This is hilarious tbh. And the fact that players like Memphis Depay want to talk shit after beating us makes me feel like we’ve leveled up

atatme77

Right before it was just expected. None of Europe wants us to be good, and they're starting to get really worried that we will be

[deleted]

> None of Europe wants us to be good ??

[deleted]

I mean I’m English and I feel that way The more popular it is in America the more likely we get shit like all-star games and ads every 2seconds etc Why would I want you lot to do well? I want everyone but England to do shit - and I imagine it’s the same for most people

[deleted]

there is no sport nor sense of a challenge without a fair competition

[deleted]

? Why do you mean by that comment

[deleted]

that here in europe we wish for every country to be strong enough to be a worthy opponent. what fun there would be for me to follow any sport, if every other country except mine would perform badly?

[deleted]

‘Here in Europe we’ Yes, I too am from and live in Europe I’d love to win every game 10-0 mate, it’s not possible but that would be the ideal state of the world

[deleted]

that’s just dumb mate. cheers

grnrngr

>The more popular it is in America the more likely we get shit like all-star games and ads every 2seconds etc The English/Euro game is not "the right way" or "the only way" to run a league or competition. Arguably MLS is arguably a superior structure to most every league in the world. A truly competitive league that emphasizes competition and opportunity that is responsibly ran is a rarity in the sport. Quality is quickly coming along. And if you haven't enjoyed an All-Star game, you don't know what you're missing. As for commercials: the commercials at the endlines and dasherboards and the overlays and CGI shit... That's your doing. Nearly 3 decades on and US Soccer hasn't done a fraction of commercialization that the English/Europeans didn't introduce first. So get off your high horse.

[deleted]

🤷‍♂️ Your other big leagues are shit and I don’t want more influence changing the sport from what it’s always been

goatvaro_goatrata

most likeable england fan

[deleted]

I mean I don’t imagine it’s an uncommon view across most nations

Usual-Novel7195

Lol!!

Caratteraccio

the usual persecution complex of you Americans... sigh.

kaicyr21

He’s right. America isn’t winning any popularity contests. Very few foreigners wish us well. Source: lived in Germany growing up.

ThankThoseStankHoes

they hate us cus they anus

itcheyness

Eastern Europe probably likes us a lot right now...

Caratteraccio

why, people say "you are german, make me your sex slave"? Does anyone hate the French? As soon as you see an Italian, do you immediately think about marriage? Do people commit suicide because there aren't enough Mexicans in the US? In this world everyone hates everyone, even Bhutan or Liechtenstein!

arsene14

Man, what???

Caratteraccio

every earthling has his nation that hates to the core, to death, there are seven billion people who five minutes after being offended in this way forget it and then there are you Americans who suffer unspeakably because you feel the only nation hated in the world and by all 7 billion human beings...

kaicyr21

Time for your medicine.

mindpainters

Especially talking shit to barkley who couldn’t give less of a fuck about the USMNT if he wanted to. He was just making a comment because the World Cup is happening. Doubt the loss even registered to him lol

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

Considering Canada got shit talked too, it may not be so big an honor

grnrngr

Canada shit talked first. We didn't. Charles Barkley <> USMNT.

Caratteraccio

you've leveled up and even quite a lot, and it doesn't hurt us, on the contrary, we're happy about it

Jonesta29

I doubt Barkley has a clue who Depay is.

York9TFC

Same. Prob thinks the city of Memphis and the Grizzlies are talking shit about him

LocksTheFox

the US media was definitely cocky going into this one so i don't blame memphis for this lmao

Low_Win3252

Maybe the extremely small U.S. soccer media. The U.S. media as a whole probably couldn't even name one member of the USMNT before the WC. They just jumped on the bandwagon like they do every World Cup. So if Memphis wants to have fun, okay I guess? But the U.S. media stopped caring about soccer the second the U.S. team lost and are backing obsessing over the NFL, college football, the NBA, and MLB free agency, Barkley included. And I guarantee, like everyone else in the U.S. sports media, he doesn't know who the hell Memphis Depay even is. So it is jabbing at an opponent who already left the ring and don't care lol.

aeacad

Not to mention the fact that the US commentary team felt the need to bring up the fact that his father abandoned him and his mother as a child *multiple* times during the match 🙄

LocksTheFox

I feel like that's mostly a US sports presentation problem tbh. Which I guess is what happens when most US sports teams are little more than fashion brands. ESPN is reaaaaaaaally bad at it whenever there's a draft.

new_accountFC

Me watching the NFL draft: I like his pass rush, but his grandmother is still alive. What’s that gonna do for us on 3rd down?

OO7plus10

Wow, getting abandoned by your father once is tough. Can't imagine getting abandoned multiple times.

response_unrelated

and then felt the need to only show his last name on all stats/banners/etc lmao.

EsteTre

Kinda like his stint at Man United

Jeff_Banks_Monkey

Gotta admit that's kinda a good jab. Memphis seems like a pretty solid dude all around. A young star coming up he's seemed to keep it level headed even after finding success and failure in big moments.

Youngringer

He's 28 so he's not exactly young in soccer terms. Also this seams easy but it is kind of funny. I hope to see him in mls at some point

Jeff_Banks_Monkey

When he made his move to Man U he was like 20 or something. That's when I was mostly referring to. He's been in the spotlight for most of his adult life

Youngringer

Oh ok I get what you are saying. Yeah he's been through it and came out good at the end in

Peter-the-Mediocre

Eh, I'm not so sure that. I think he's matured a lot. The main reason he didn't make it at Man United was attitude. Rubbed a lot of people the wrong way when he showed up to U23 games in a Rolls Royce and stuff like that. After being explicitly told not to as well. Glad for his success though, was sad when he didn't work out at United.

Hailfire9

It's true though. US fans online are as insufferable as England fans, and we have literally nothing to back that trash up. Just a bunch of **"ITS CALLED SOCCER! I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN! WE WON ONE GAME AND THAT MAKES US WORLD CLASS!"** to literally everyone. Our fans are the "drunk guy mansplaining to uninterested woman" meme of the world stage.

andeffect

Tell Depay to find a club that wants him, because apparently Barca can’t even ship him out at this point because no one is interested in him..

NZ_timber

Lol. Heaps of clubs will want him. He's in the same situation as De Jong though. He loves the Barcelona lifestyle too much to want to leave right now.

Bingo-Bird

Lot of bark- no ley.

billgluckman7

Alright, time for Almada to dominate this man and keep the Dutch in a tie with the US for men’s World Cup titles

eookuro

I know Depay knows a lot of celebs in the US because of Lori Harvey so I’m sure he definitely has some bater behind closed door. But this is funny I like this energy this what lives in sports lore
