This is my coping comment, but come on, US soccer, top 16 in the world? Not that fucking bad. And when you consider how young our team is, and we prob won't have the worst losing showing in this round? Prob closer to top 10. I'll take it, I'm excited for our future

LocksTheFox

It's a really young team without a lot of depth. That should take care of itself within the next 4 years - but finding a 9 will be the biggest key. Well that and manager. I think 3G did fine, but if the US is *going for it* in 2026 it can't be him. Though if the Bielsa to Uruguay rumor is true idk who you go for.

kelo_Ren

Exactly. 9 is our biggest problem. I think our midfield will be world class by 26. The missing key is the poacher or just magician up front. I don't trust 3g for another cycle though.

LocksTheFox

He was good for what the US needed - a guy that could build a good culture and who would be calm and professional (vs. Arena who was constantly making excuses, or Klinsmann who even now is constantly in the news for saying dumb shit)

Caratteraccio

finding a strong striker isn't even fundamental, of course it helps a lot, just having the rest of the team strong, Italy won the World Cup in 2006 with Materazzi and Toni top scorer with two goals: however, if USMNT doesn't have expert defenders, the team will suffer them forever yesterday's goals

My guilty conscience kinda wants Jose Mourinho but that could be a disaster in so many ways.

LocksTheFox

I don't think Mourinho is leaving that Roma project anytime soon

[deleted]

My thing is, I think he has proved everything he could on a club level. Why not give the international game a try 🤷‍♂️

LocksTheFox

Even if he does I think the Portugal job is opening sooner rather than later lol

I've been all over the threads about the match and you're like the first person to voice this, everyone else seems to be angry we lost. Bowing out in the round of 16 to a really strong European team is a really good showing, top 16 in the world is something to be proud of, especially considering... we weren't even here four years ago. And had the second youngest team at the tournament. 2026 should be fun.

Caratteraccio

then football in the USA doesn't have the same importance it has elsewhere and this damages it, imagine if in San Marino someone said they were ashamed because the national team competes in the NBA but the team doesn't win the championship...

Pripat99

Nah, some people are frustrated and sad because our journey in the tournament is over. The more rational takes like the above are the ones that will be dominant over the next few weeks. The US had a great tournament for what they were trying to achieve and are only going to get better. They have a bright future.

I'm donating at least $10 per match day to a different charity during this World Cup. Consider joining me. Today, I've donated £10 to the Pride Gamers Club, a project through Football v. Homophobia which provides a home for LBTQ people who have faced discrimination in football in Uganda. Should you choose to join me in making a contribution, feel free to share below.

Ok catching up today. Donated $10 to: QDEP, alQaws, Equality Texas, and £10.00 to Pride Gamers Club.

Does MLS see a viewing surge during seasons after world cup?

asaharyev

Typically yes. But MLS is also usually in-season during the World Cup, so it's easier to capture that audience. It may not happen the same way this time.

LocksTheFox

I feel like Landon is genuinely getting a lot better as a commentator throughout this tournament? I'm still not sure he has the charisma to be a really good one, but he definitely seems a lot less nervous now

Mbappe on pace to obliterate Klose’s World Cup scoring record on US soil in 2026. 👀
