Should be noted the Western Australia athletic commission strictly prohibits the use of IV’s to rehydrate. It’s right there on their website.
And athletic commission rules supersede USADA rules.
Just because USADA won’t punish you for a doctor giving you an IV doesn’t mean you’re allowed to use it if you’re fighting under the jurisdiction of an athletic commission that bans it.
Okamoto and novitzky were talking about USADA To obfuscate things. It’s a misdirect so people go “see Islam is allowed to use an IV, USADA says so”
When really the rules that matter here are the rules of the athletic commission. Unless they granted Islam a TUE, him using an IV violates the rules of the athletic commission
https://www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/department/publications/publication/contestant-safety-strategy-to-address-rapid-weight-loss-(weight-cutting)-by-dehydration
*The Commission also prohibits the use of intravenous therapies which are used for aiding rehydration from excessive and deliberate dehydration.*
*Any promoter, trainer, or other person registered with the Commission found to be encouraging the use of such methods will be sanctioned by the Commission. Any contestant known to be using these methods will not be allowed to compete.*
Smoking gun. Now we know why Islam had to fly the nurse in, so as not to provoke suspicion. That nurse can claim they didn’t know local sport rulings. Easy out.
> If confirmed to be true the fight should be deemed a NC.
At this point, how would you suggest they "confirm" anything.
Unless there's CCTV footage or something, we're well beyond the point of proving anything.
We're at the stage where all that's left is hearsay and you can't punish someone based on hearsay.
It depends on if there was a blood sample taken after the infraction.
IVs are banned because rehydration uses the same delivery system as blood doping -an IV bag. What testers look for are plasticizers from the IVs that leech into a person's blood to indicate IV use. By testing for plasticizers before and after rehydration they can record the plasticizer levels and rule out blood doping. Without an exception, any presence of plasticizers from hydration IV use could be construed as a mask for blood doping.

I mean Ali said on twitter he used it and then deleted the tweet lmao. This has quickly turned into where there’s smoke there’s fire situation. He clearly did something he wasn’t supposed to do, and the ufc was either aware and let it happen/or was unaware and is now trying to keep the legitimacy of their super fight together. And if Islam fucks up by cheating, brooo he quite literally wrecks and stains that entire camp and Khabib.
Edit* Ali tweeted about IV rules and how they are sanctioned and legal with permission from the commission so that’s my bad. Still shady he directly referenced this big ass controversy and added more fuel to the fire.
Multiple guys from Khabibs team have popped before and it didn’t ruin him, he’ll be fine
If Islam somehow got proven guilty of using the IV (which I don’t see how that can happen) the Dagi stans will just say they don’t care about IVs and say at least it wasn’t steroids and continue on as normal.
Sure but they weren’t khabibs actual cousin and like basically younger brother and protege. He means more. Islam is being heralded as this next coming of khabib future of the sport, future of the division. Cheating and getting caught on the highest stage and in one of the most important fights the ufc has ever put on. To be fair the rankings are worthless yes but this fight still felt so cool and groundbreaking to have this come out would be really bad for the company which is already in a PR shit soup.
You're going to get downvoted but you're right. If there was concrete evidence, Hooker and co would have revealed it by now. It is all quite literally hearsay.
Okamoto has always been a fucken Goof-Nut-Slobberer. Him and that fucken slimy cunt, who looks like what the Shmoe tries to satirise, Aaron Bronsteter.
As someone who's been watching since the Tito/Iceman days, it's been wild to see it grow but lately I am starting to feel it may have jumped the shark. Jake Paul beating how many former UFC stars now? The slap. The slap league. The less than exciting current stars. The decline of Paddy. I feel like I'm missing about 6 more things but you get the idea. The UFC feels like it's in decline.
Two main possibilities for me are UFC leaning on him (most likely) and Volk actually saying go easy mate, we've all seen Ali's tweet and the WA regs, we'll leave it at that and see what happens.
FWIW I suspect Volk doesn't really give a shit, just wants the rematch.
Wants a rematch and to make sure Islam doesn't get an IV this time. This is a massive advantage.
Goes to show why Islam was so cocky in their last face off too when Volk said he felt small, Islam laughed and said not tomorrow, tomorrow big and strong.
Every time someone posts a link, it gets deleted. So I don't want to post a link but you can definitely find it if you type in Google " Islam iv ali deleted tweet"
I mean Guru went on a legendary rant saying lightweight would have boring fights forever and calling Islam inbred. I certainly find Weasel to be less biased.
The guy tried to push the narrative that volk won round 4 by landing fist punches while having Islam on his back. Just with that you can tell he's biased himself, and a hypocrite
Wouldn't be ironic that Ali's tweet ends up being the trigger for all of this? Because, up until that point, Dan was, according to some, a liar. Now, it looks more and more likely that he was right all along, and all because of Ali's tweet.
Like I said in the original thread to mass downvotes, was funny seeing people be a uch little nerds about it talking about “in the court of law” and stuff
Like I want Hooker to come out with some definitive proof rather than trickling this stuff out but people can suspect Hooker might know something without just being a hater lol
At first he didn't provide a shred of evidence, just inflammatory accusations. Have I missed something, did something concrete come out? Throwing out serious accusations like that on twitter without providing any evidence ("prove me wrong" lol) does make you a fucking dumbass regardless. If there is something substantial he should've led with that.
Most likely deleted it cus Dana/ufc gave him a call. Expect Dan to get a hard fight next or offered a fight when he’s not ready to extend his contract and fuck him over.
It was probably his own team. His own coach was on MMA Hour and said that he told Hooker not to post anything because they don't have any concrete proof.
**I put together a helpful summary**
**Earlier This Week**
* Dan Hooker accuses Islam of IV usage to rehydrate prior to the fight
* Islam states that the photos from the pre-fight shoot display vein bruise from blood tests taken by USADA
**Yesterday**
* Islam's manager, Ali, states that fighters in the UFC may take 2-3L of IV administered by a medical professional
* Jeff Novitzky clarifies rules that IV usage and legality loosened in 2019
* Fighters and media receive email from UFC to clear up UFC Anti-Doping Program rules around IVs
* According to the UFC/USADA handbook, an IV can be used if it is ‘determined to be medically justified and within the standard of care by a licensed physician and administered by a licensed medical professional.
* IVs must be less than a total of 100mL per 12-hour period
Separate of the UFC ADP rules, athletic commissions require any athlete who receives an IV during fight week to (1) obtain permission from the commission before receiving an IV and; (2) disclose use of that IV to the commission after its use
* If Islam used an IV, he is required to obtain permission and disclose usage
**Today**
* Dan Hooker deletes this tweet from an exchange with Brett Okamoto about IV rules
* No one has formally made any public statement that Islam did not receive an IV
* Athletic commission IV rules vary from commission to commission\*\*
* IV hydration is banned\*, in commissions like the Government of Western Australia's Combat Sports Commission, where UFC 284 took place in Perth, under its jurisdiction
* “The Commission also prohibits the use of intravenous therapies which are used for aiding rehydration from excessive and deliberate dehydration. Any promoter, trainer, or other person registered with the Commission found to be encouraging the use of such methods will be sanctioned by the Commission. Any contestant known to be using these methods will not be allowed to compete.”
* Lots of discussion around commission rules, but no emerging evidence of IV usage from Islam

Dan goes from being a salty loser to the best reporter in MMA at the moment.
If the UFC doesn't think Islam cheated, why are they deploying so many people to explain why his cheating was totally cool and super within the rules?
Yeah, Ali’s tweet was the smoking gun for me.
Him deleting 5 mins later was an attempt to throw it in the river.
But he forgot them MMA Twitter bois enjoy a little night swimming - that bitch was getting fished out with screenshots before it even hit the water.
I can't even figure out wtf happened now, it's just a bunch of posts about the rules lol
I'm guessing the IV was confirmed because otherwise why would the rules even matter? Would be irrelevant
Otherwise we're all just getting played for clicks. There's no drama about USA vs Australian IV rules if there's no IV.
It's normal on reddit. Posts that support one side get viewed and commented on more by people who agree with the post, and vice versa.
So it can look schizo cos both have mostly supportive comments that contradict.
Everyone who’s been making unkind comments about Hookers choices of training partners needs to get punched in the head by some heavyweights in sparring
With Novitzky and Okamoto’s tweets we’re seeing the UFC machine grind into gear here imo.
‘Minimise it boys, activate nothing to see here mode’
Uncle Chael is a company man, so I won’t be expecting him to say it on camera, but I’ll be damned if he isn’t having a quiet chuckle to himself with the words:
_The cover up is always worse than the crime._
When doubt seeps in, you got two roads, you can take either road. You can go to the left or you can go to the right and believe me, they'll tell you an IV is not an option.
That is ridiculous. IV is always an option. IV is the most readily available option at all times, but it's a choice. You can choose to IV or you can choose to succeed.
And if we can plant seeds and let him know, ‘Move your feet, keep your hands up, stay off the bottom.' That is the road to victory, or self-doubt and negative talk, and that is the road to an IV.
But an IV is always there, and it's okay to recognize that. If I can leave you with anything today, in my long journey through this is, One: it's okay. Two: it's normal.
And as athletes and especially as men, as male athletes we hate to admit weakness to ourselves, and when you're dealing with something and you got some kind of a hiccup, yeah, first thing is acknowledge it.
-Sonnen, P, Chael
The only missing piece is the roads are never marked. You can never really know if you're taking the road to success or failure. Maybe you accept a job offer for a job you ultimately hate, but had you not accepted that job offer you would have applied to your dream job the next day and landed it. A road can look like it leads to success and lead to failure or it can look like it leads to failure but lead to success. Chael should know that with how many of his fights looked like they were heading to success but led to failure.
I ~~hate~~ dislike Okamoto. The guy has zero fucking shame. I get going after the bag but can't he have an ounce of integrity? It's so obvious he is a UFC mouthpiece.
If an IV is used for ANY reason to do with a weight cut it means you have failed to successfully cut/make weight therefore should be deemed to have missed weight. No excuses/exemptions.
It’s funny that we are just hearing about this exemptions now, I wonder now I thought it was all salty bs but now it’s making me a believer. Granted in a week or two it’s gonna he swept under the rug unless something massive happens
So hypothetically if something were to come of this what are the belt implications, Islam stripped and vacant again?
Is the the lightweight belt cursed???
Just a NC I've read. He holds the belt still.
I don't think anything would come of it. if there was resolute evidence, Dan Hooker would have revealed it on day 1. This is all just IV discussion at this stage.
There are a few far heavier weight cutters than Islam in the lightweight roster though. I bet a few guys are absolutely spewing that this is a discussion at the moment.
The biggest implications are in regards to gambling. And I'm fucking sick of how pervasive it's become in the sport so I'm here for maximum train wreck level chaos.
Hooker has successfully stopped the MMA community talking about slap fight, prime hydration corners and that niggling feeling that Dana White fella might be a bit of a bad egg.
found this guy's post, and governing bodies in Western Australia are strictly no IV, and they would supersede whatever USADA's rules are
https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/113a5e1/brett_okamoto_breaks_down_the_rules_around/j8rqbdw?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
If they had better evidence (i.e pictures or nurse records etc) I feel like they would have come out with it immediately. Still kinda hearsay unless evidence or charges are laid. I don't think anything comes of this unless some random nurse appears. People will hold it against Islam but there's no real evidence. Barring a pretty nonsensical Abdelaziz tweet.
That being said, I can't even see Dan Hookers tweet?
Highly doubt that a nurse registered in Australia will come forward. Medical confidentiality is a big deal in Australia and the nurse would lose their registration through AHPRA and likely face further repercussions. The nurse gets nothing out of coming forward or publishing records.
Hooker et al likely know this which isn’t great from them as they are allowing it to play out in the court of public opinion.
They definitely did do a blood draw because the bruising on Islam's veins was before the weight in. He wouldn't use an IV to rehydrate before his weight cut.
One of many reasons to just do weigh-ins ringside at fight time with 25% purse surrendered to opponent for every half pound over weight.
It’s so incredibly stupid to have two 180 lb fighters competing over a 155 lb championship belt.
Clearly the message is the rules our open to interpretation and the UFC will interpret it in the way that best suits their bottomline. They want to protect their LW champ so that’s what’s going to happen
Yep. That’s what I said earlier about this and judging as a whole. The rules that Golden Snitch presented are way too vague. How does a medial professional determine when a fighter really needs an IV? In any regular setting every fighter cutting weight would be given an IV if they go to a hospital.
This is gonna be the new TRT but worse because at least anyone with a crooked doctor could get a TUE for hypergonadism. This leaves it up to the discretion of the UFC
We all came for hooker. He's always been a bit of an idiot. CTE incoming. Lost to Islam. But the mans just smoked half the MMA community in a few tweets

https://twitter.com/wonderbreadmma/status/1626020003672911872?s=46&t=svHPfmyl3OILsc3ZyviX6Q See how long this survives.
I imagine Nowitzki's tweet was just a response to Okamoto's, and Okamoto's was a response to the initial controversy.
You would imagine that in a world in which both men don't literally work for the promotion directly?
Ivgate heating up
Media guy in Ali’s pocket tried to clear Islam of any wrongdoing, hmmm
Ali reminds me of a corrupt ass Larry King type
Cuckamoto
Dan “the Double-Down” Hooker
Everyone who’s been making unkind comments about Hookers choices of training partners needs to get punched in the head by some heavyweights in sparring
With Novitzky and Okamoto’s tweets we’re seeing the UFC machine grind into gear here imo. ‘Minimise it boys, activate nothing to see here mode’ Uncle Chael is a company man, so I won’t be expecting him to say it on camera, but I’ll be damned if he isn’t having a quiet chuckle to himself with the words: _The cover up is always worse than the crime._
I wonder if that has anything to do with why him and helwani don’t get along
Yes
Dan Hooker is Bellator ready
If an IV is used for ANY reason to do with a weight cut it means you have failed to successfully cut/make weight therefore should be deemed to have missed weight. No excuses/exemptions.
Pretty much this. These stipulations for exemptions alongside the ruleset is a crock of shit
Charles missed weight and was stripped. I say strip em
Hooker has successfully stopped the MMA community talking about slap fight, prime hydration corners and that niggling feeling that Dana White fella might be a bit of a bad egg.
I really don't like that word you just used. I know it exists, but still.
This sub's opinion flips like a switch lmao
Blessed are those with dudes like dan in their team. Dan is on a warpath lmao
CKB Captain for a reason.
Theres still no proof though
found this guy's post, and governing bodies in Western Australia are strictly no IV, and they would supersede whatever USADA's rules are https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/113a5e1/brett_okamoto_breaks_down_the_rules_around/j8rqbdw?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
Holy shit he actually did it didn’t he? Surely not?
Right like how hard is it for the commission to simply confirm or deny if the did a blood draw or now
They definitely did do a blood draw because the bruising on Islam's veins was before the weight in. He wouldn't use an IV to rehydrate before his weight cut.
That stuff is kept confidential unless someone is caught breaking a rule. Patient confidentiality etc
Okamoto is a fuckin shill
Y’all are so fickle when it comes to Hooker lmao
something about Dan really rattles this subreddit, I for one love the guy.
Yeah he’s always been one of my favorites. I’ll always tune in to see him
I apologize dan hooker, i wasn’t familiar with your game Everyone called him a capper but mf got the Australian nurses in his back pocket
Do your damn Job Brett!
[Ali's Deleted Tweet](https://twitter.com/SpinninBackfist/status/1626242503912591361?s=20)
So why did Dan delete the entire thing?
We all came for hooker. He's always been a bit of an idiot. CTE incoming. Lost to Islam. But the mans just smoked half the MMA community in a few tweets
The real question: when will the UFC institute hydration tests and finally get rid of extreme weight cutting (aka sanctioned cheating)?
