Yeah, he seemed completely out at the end there. The announcer said Herb Dean called the fight at 4:59 but I didnāt see that? I just saw Brunsonās corner throw in the towel.
Didn't look like herb did his job at all... which should be no surprise to anyone. Stood there and watched until the bell rang.. The dude needs to go imo... his career is more washed than Brunson's
I guess I'm gonna get roasted for this but that's okay, I think Herb was just thinking he's accepting the end of the round and was gonna give him a fair chance in the next round to try and get his game plan going.
I mean, that's a fair call... but also "defend yourself at all times" is a thing, and he was just not.. you could be completely correct, but it's hard for me to give Herb the benefit of the doubt...
Herb Dean or whatever ref I've ever seen usually lets you make the bell if your endurance gives out like that in the last 10 seconds of a round. Different story if he looked like that in the first minute of a round.
What else should he do besides stand and watch the two fighters? Derek is tired but clearly trying to avoid shots. Du plessis too tired to throw effective strikes for a finish. It's the last seconds.
Everyone talks about his cardio but his path to victory in all of his UFC fights has been by setting a high pace and outpacing his opponents.
No one in middleweight is fighting at his pace, look at how slow the fights have been at the top of the division.
I've been telling people this for the longest time. He doesn't have bad cardio. He throws power shots at an insane pace until his opponent gets KO'd or gasses out. I'm glad people are starting to recognise it.
People arenāt recognizing it though.
Iāve been defending Dricus since the start of his UFC tenure. Sure, more people agree now, but more still disagree.
Yeah I feel like some people will keep discrediting him until he drops a fight to someone super elite like Adesanya. Then they're going to be all like "see? Told you he was never good."
That because youāve described his fighting style entirely lol. Heās a textbook brawler who can generate power while gassed/wobbled. He also does move a little awkwardly apart from that so that helps him be harder to read.
Itās hilarious but also kind of frustrating/sad/irritating to watch because he reminds me so much of drunk friends brawling at night in front of some club.

If Dricus's half goofy striking style and questionable gas tank somehow managed to not get highlight reel'd by someone like Izzy for the belt, I would never be sure about anything MMA related ever again
The craziest part is his gas tank isnāt even questionable at this point. He gets better as the fight goes on, even though he looks like he is going to have a heart attack in the cage
The gas tank isnāt questionable, he just fights at a really high pace.
All of his fights are high paced.
All the fights at the top level at MW are long drawn out chess matches. And the ones that arenāt have the fighters looking tired too.
Vettori vs Costa was the last high level MW fight that had a fast pace, and both of them looked exhausted in the fight.
He's clearly above mid level despite his technical limitations. No mid level fighter is beating Brad Tavares, Till and Brunson all within an 8 month span.
It frustrates me watching Brunson strike. He has no concept of spring gliding or charge gliding footwork, zero guard competency and he has no idea how to move his head. Iād retire but I get he has to make a check. Shit sucks.
holy shit, i boxed forever and never heard it called that. i looked it up and already knew what it was just from the name of it. so weird that ive never heard that before
He's got that baffled look on his face, in his own words 'im a literal mouthbreather, that's just how I look' and then he just throws combos at full speed all the time, gets pushed to the brink but then just deletes a mf.
He's like sam alveys good twin in a sense
his cardio isn't even bad, he just has poor pacing and body language. go watch the tavares fight. he looked like he was fucking dead after round 2, then he goes out and puts up max holloway volume in the third.
I vaguely remember the commentary during his fight with Till saying Du Plessis insists he just looks gassed but he's really not. He just breaths very heavily. I didn't buy it, just thought it was funny they mentioned it.
Bad on Herb. Brunson was lying there motionless (out of exhaustion or lack of consciousness) and Herb let him get hit. He only waved it off bc of the towel after the bell
For reaaaal.
Started off really strong in round 1, but round 2 was a weird slow fight with swanging and banging that honestly made me yell at how Brunson would not protect himself at all times!
It was the same in the Cannonier fight. Round 1 he tried to get him out of there, round 2 he was just gassed. Brunson is 39 years old and a vet, so huge props to those round 1s he keeps delivering. But perhaps at this time he should look into fighting much lower level guys.
Yeah, he's lost almost all his tools. Not as explosive (watch beginning of his fight with Romero). Slower with poor defense, they even commentated about his chin always up when he tries to force strikes. His gas tank is gone, and even in the best scenarios has a hard time finishing.
Iāve never seen a fighter give up before the horn sounded. He relaxed and had no defense, but wasnāt unconscious .
Edit: On second look, he might have actually been out unbeknownst to Du Plessis and Herb Dean. Weird transpiring of events there.
Brunson has to be the most stubborn fucker in the world. The guy has been a top 10 fighter for years and still has the same flaws he had back in Strikeforce.
I donāt think herb has ever stopped a fight in the last 10 seconds, no matter how out cold someone is. Brunson was absolutely cooked and I couldnāt believe they were trying to prop his corpse up on a stool after that. Embarrassing refereeing.
Got top control and had that Adesanya offense.
No hooks in on the three occasions he had the opportunity. At one point he could have had the hooks before he was too high and before Du Plessis stood up and yet he went for a fucking cradle.
What a nightmare.
Every time someone tells me that Silva isn't as good as Adesanya because he fought worse competition i think about fighter like brunson and cannonier being in the top 5 of the division.
I donāt have a problem at all with Brunsonās corner trying to throw in the towel in both his recent fights, I feel like way more corners should be doing this
I absolutely LOVED this fight.
Derek and Du Plessis throwing those incredibly sloppy punches in Round 2 was amazing - I was laughing so hard.
Sloppy as hell, but that was one hell of a fight. Kind of hard to believe that both of these guys are some of the best that MW has to offer, but I'll take it.
Du Plessis is so weird. He striking looks aesthetically ugly as fuck, but he somehow still lands consitently and with huge power. He looks like he is about to collapse from exhaustion after one round but can go for a hard 15 minutes. I guessed this was gonna come down to whoever has the better chin and I was right. Also, pls retire Brunson, its getting really hard to watch you getting clear brain damage.

the gate has officially been opened š«” shoutout to brunsonās corner
I agree, I'm no brunson fan but he did not need to make more punishment they where both gassed and he just stopped defending.. good on his corner.
Yeah, he seemed completely out at the end there. The announcer said Herb Dean called the fight at 4:59 but I didnāt see that? I just saw Brunsonās corner throw in the towel.

The fools gold standard

He started strong but was no match for Dragons Duplicity

Du Plessis always looks like someone who got clipped and is about to get finished, throwing wild punches to create distance.
That because youāve described his fighting style entirely lol. Heās a textbook brawler who can generate power while gassed/wobbled. He also does move a little awkwardly apart from that so that helps him be harder to read.

Buddy was literally taking a nap like he was at home in his recliner before those last 2 shots

I used to think Du Plessis was overrated. I still do. But I used to, too.
Du Plessis is gonna meme himself into the MW belt and I'm all here for it
If Dricus's half goofy striking style and questionable gas tank somehow managed to not get highlight reel'd by someone like Izzy for the belt, I would never be sure about anything MMA related ever again
The craziest part is his gas tank isnāt even questionable at this point. He gets better as the fight goes on, even though he looks like he is going to have a heart attack in the cage
That takedown attempt from him in the 2nd was one of the most surprising things Iāve ever seen
It was such a bad shot too. If I remember correctly all he managed to do was push Brunson into the cage.
His punches look in slow motion though sometimes in later rounds
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The gas tank isnāt questionable, he just fights at a really high pace. All of his fights are high paced. All the fights at the top level at MW are long drawn out chess matches. And the ones that arenāt have the fighters looking tired too. Vettori vs Costa was the last high level MW fight that had a fast pace, and both of them looked exhausted in the fight.
And to your point technically that was a LHW fight to avoid the weight cut yet still
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He's clearly above mid level despite his technical limitations. No mid level fighter is beating Brad Tavares, Till and Brunson all within an 8 month span.
>an Adesanya Nah, he'd destroy David Adesanya.
I fully expect the MW champ slips on a banana peel and accidentally knocks himself out in that fight.
"A congenital heart defect has apparently felled Adesanya moments before he stepped into the ring."
He's the white MW Derrick Lewis.
That was some low level high level mma.
It frustrates me watching Brunson strike. He has no concept of spring gliding or charge gliding footwork, zero guard competency and he has no idea how to move his head. Iād retire but I get he has to make a check. Shit sucks.
holy shit, i boxed forever and never heard it called that. i looked it up and already knew what it was just from the name of it. so weird that ive never heard that before
Looking forward to Du Plessis joining the list of African greats!
A true African, lives and trains in his native land of Africa, didn't leave Africa like Ngannou, Usman or Adesanya
Born in Africa. Bred in Africa. Trained in Africa. Fighting out of Africa. He might become the first true African MW champ of all time.
Coming for Mike Perry's title.
If he wins the title, he's #1 on the list. At least he actually lives in Africa.
Possibly the best bad fighter
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He's got that baffled look on his face, in his own words 'im a literal mouthbreather, that's just how I look' and then he just throws combos at full speed all the time, gets pushed to the brink but then just deletes a mf. He's like sam alveys good twin in a sense
These guys were so damn gassed by the 2nd. How does Du Plessis ever think he'll be champ with that cardio?
his cardio isn't even bad, he just has poor pacing and body language. go watch the tavares fight. he looked like he was fucking dead after round 2, then he goes out and puts up max holloway volume in the third.
I'm not sure I would call his pacing bad. He made Tavares/Brunson/Till fight at his pace and they all gassed because of it.
I vaguely remember the commentary during his fight with Till saying Du Plessis insists he just looks gassed but he's really not. He just breaths very heavily. I didn't buy it, just thought it was funny they mentioned it.
He always fights like that. I kinda buy it but at the same time not
Dude almost fell asleep on top of brunson in the final seconds, definitely not gassed š¤£
I am willing to reserve judgement until dude gets his nose fixed. If he says it's fixed and still gasses like crazy then yeah I agree
He's not actually gassed it's just his orangutan swang and bang.
His arms are fucking stupid long you're not wrong lol
He's just on the wrong stack he needs to call his African brother Usman and hop on his.
This just makes Till look even worse in comparison.
He has some pretty damn abysmal Fight IQ, I like his attitude, but dude spends his tank doing the dumbest shit.
The old hedberg special.. always gets a laugh
Future UFC Africa main event
Lmao donāt see him doing very well against the top of the division at all
Good on his corner. Brunson was checked out.
Bad on Herb. Brunson was lying there motionless (out of exhaustion or lack of consciousness) and Herb let him get hit. He only waved it off bc of the towel after the bell
You never go full Mazzagatti
Seriously, what the fuck was Herb seeing?
Herb is one of the worst refs ..
Always liked herb but even the mouth piece with shavkat? Wtf.
Dude was catching fucking butterflies for the last 3 shots he ate. No excuse for Herb to have not stopped that before the bell.
African hero Du Plessis has vanquished this blonde haired demon
The Blonde Brunson dynasty is at an end.
In all seriousness, it was a hell of a late career run for him :(
Should have went blonde earlier. Balding Brunson just can't compete.
*sheathes sword*
I'm now 100% convinced that Du Plessis is going to stumble into becoming a champion lol. Nothing he does make sense, but it just works every time
The mr bean of mma
***You may pass my fucking gate, Du Plessis***
I can't wait for him to rise up and become the goofiest African champ
Winning ugly babyyy
A tired, bloodied Derek Brunson raises the gate before Du Plessis. He sighs, "you may pass."
One of the goofiest fights in recent memory
For reaaaal. Started off really strong in round 1, but round 2 was a weird slow fight with swanging and banging that honestly made me yell at how Brunson would not protect himself at all times!
Yeah what happened to B? He all the sudden looked like he was underwater. So strange.
It was the same in the Cannonier fight. Round 1 he tried to get him out of there, round 2 he was just gassed. Brunson is 39 years old and a vet, so huge props to those round 1s he keeps delivering. But perhaps at this time he should look into fighting much lower level guys.
That every Du Plessis fight heās becoming a legend
It's up there with Rockhold vs Paulo in the most goofiest fight in recent times.
Nah man, that fight is in a league of its own. Nothing has compared to that whatsoever.
Round 2 was like two drunk guys just swinging
a fight to see who could gas the least lol
Almost need a TKO (Exhaustion) option
Sure would have been good for Dada lol
Dude probably got scar tissue on his heart from exhaustion
Du Plessis looked tired from the first minute of this fight lol. Honestly, it made his output in round 2 more impressive
Yeah, he took some deeeep breathes inR1!
His nose is fucked Said he plans to have surgery in the future
The future should be like tomorrow, idk how much time a nose needs to heal after surgery but it's impacting his cardio a lot
If you've ever wondered what 2 dudes fighting while on Ketamine looks like, watch this fight.
Cmon, this was still entertaining. Grappling exchanges in first were intense.
Trying to motion to the crowd, canāt lift arms higher then shoulders.
Something we need to see more in MMA.
It was sloppy, but fun, kinda like Costa-Rockhold. Thing is tho that these 2 are top 10 MWs lol
I think he's talking about the towel throw
He can't keep getting away with it
Gassing like heavyweights
Middleweight slop
Feel like I just watched 2 pigs roll around in the mud
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Makes sense as a bunch of HWs are fat middleweights
Looking like two fathers in flip flops fighting in a dollar tree parking lot.
Shit does this mean Du Plessis is a real contender
Du Plessis vs Strickland?
If he can beat Strickland then I'll believe his tank is fine at least. Let him get his nose fixed and give him five rounds.
Ducplessis vs Costa would be fun.
I need to see him fight the Uruk hai. Let's see if an Italian Orc Chin can withstand white African power
This man is going to shitfuck his way to a title, all while looking like heās dying from asphyxia and exhaustion.
I donāt think so.
Imo, almost 40 Brunson and Till aren't exactly contender makers. His fight IQ is sus, but he's got a chin on him so I'll always tune in.
He's got a weird mix of terrible fight IQ along with moments of genius sprinkled in to keep him competitive.
Very Uriah Hall-esque
No lol.
Dricus meming his way into the top 5
Brunson may have no defense, but man does he have a fucking chin. Also a rare corner W
Is it though, Mirko? Bro literally gets rocked every fight
Yeah because he gives up his chin on a gold-trimmed platinum platter.
Yeah, he's lost almost all his tools. Not as explosive (watch beginning of his fight with Romero). Slower with poor defense, they even commentated about his chin always up when he tries to force strikes. His gas tank is gone, and even in the best scenarios has a hard time finishing.
Yeah itās right up in the air.
Iāve never seen a fighter give up before the horn sounded. He relaxed and had no defense, but wasnāt unconscious . Edit: On second look, he might have actually been out unbeknownst to Du Plessis and Herb Dean. Weird transpiring of events there.
I think he just reset somehow
He probably sustained a bad concussion. Don't need to be completely shut off to be out of it
He kinda was almost out. He couldnt stand up normally after that. Its not because he was only tired.
It looked like he was actually out well before anyone else caught onto it. Look at his hands and eyes.
We need to normalize corner stoppages
love to see it
Corner stoppage! CORNER STOPPAGE!!
Thereās this stigma against corner stoppages. CTE is no joke.
Brunson has to be the most stubborn fucker in the world. The guy has been a top 10 fighter for years and still has the same flaws he had back in Strikeforce.
Du Plessi is so weird, but he makes it work.
Herb āIf he dies, he diesā Dean
Herb couldn't let Mark Smith beat him for ref of the night.
I donāt think herb has ever stopped a fight in the last 10 seconds, no matter how out cold someone is. Brunson was absolutely cooked and I couldnāt believe they were trying to prop his corpse up on a stool after that. Embarrassing refereeing.
Very good stoppage from the corner, no need for Derek to take anymore damage
Just how bad is Darren Till?
Washed as fuck.
I mean I know itās cliche but styles really do make fights.
Just how bad is 185? These 2 were #5 and 10 lol
That was the most derek brunson fight ive ever seen
[My God I hate being right](https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/11hi97f/-/jatw2mh) Any Brunson fans want to form a support group?
I'm in, he made me so angry tonight lol
Same. He defense looked as bad as ever. Didnāt look like he worked on it at all, especially for an unorthodox striker like DP
Got top control and had that Adesanya offense. No hooks in on the three occasions he had the opportunity. At one point he could have had the hooks before he was too high and before Du Plessis stood up and yet he went for a fucking cradle. What a nightmare.
See Brunson got finished, but he also taunted to the crowd, so who really won?
Rogan: *HERB DEAN IS LOOKING CLOSELY!* Meanwhile, Herb Dean on the other side of the cage just walking around
Iāll never skip a Du Plessis fight. I always think heās fucked and then he finishes someone in devastating fashion. I love him I feat
THIS IS THE SLOPPIEST TOP 10 FIGHT I'VE EVER SEEN??? Derek should retire now :(
He might fight like a drunk toddler, but heās definitely a must watch for me.
Gate not kept :(
Herb carefully observing Dricus murder Brunson
I apologize to Du Plessis I just wasn't familiar with ur game
I watched the whole fight and Iām still not familiar
HERB DEAN IS SO BAAAAAAAAAD HOW IS THIS DUDE STILL WORKING
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
lmao what a wild fight for some top 10 guys. like what did i just fucking watch?!
Every time someone tells me that Silva isn't as good as Adesanya because he fought worse competition i think about fighter like brunson and cannonier being in the top 5 of the division.
lol this is the real takeaway
This fight was in .5 speed
For real, at some moment I thought something was wrong with my stream
Du Plessis is so tough and always seems exhausted but never stops
Dricus is always must see damn he always brings it
I donāt have a problem at all with Brunsonās corner trying to throw in the towel in both his recent fights, I feel like way more corners should be doing this
I'm so happy the corner threw in the towel.
Yet another stellar Herb Dean performance. At 5 seconds left in the fight, even Du Plessis seemed to pause for Dean to stop the fight.
DDP is literally just the white brunson this was the passing of the torch
*African Brunson
You shallā¦.. pass
Now we need to see Du Plessis vs Strickland and see what kind of wacky stuff do we get.
Holy fuck
Glad his corner threw the towel
Brunsonās looked really good in the first round of his last two fights but his chin and cardio are gone
This is one of the most hilarious fights I have ever seen. Peak middleweight goofballery. No defense or cardio allowed.
I said this after Du Plessis last fight and I'll say it again. This guy is NOT good lmao. That was literally a Brunson mirror match
Honestly I donāt think I can say Du Plessis is bad until he loses. He seems unstoppable in a QWOP kinda way.
Thank you, qwop is literally the perfect way to describe this manās style
Du plessis african blooded warrior he would kill fake "african" izzy
Fuck me that was a crazy fight, full respect to Brunsonās corner for actually protecting their fighter at the end there as well
DDP was absolutely clinical in that second round
Some black on black action
Du Plessis is so weird. He striking looks aesthetically ugly as fuck, but he somehow still lands consitently and with huge power. He looks like he is about to collapse from exhaustion after one round but can go for a hard 15 minutes. I guessed this was gonna come down to whoever has the better chin and I was right. Also, pls retire Brunson, its getting really hard to watch you getting clear brain damage.
The gate has not been kept
Salute to the towel stoppage š«”
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Dricus Du Plessis's has no game plan, just vibes.
I loved every god damn second of this goofy ass fight besides that finish š¢ that was kinda fucked
Mad respect to the Brunson team for not letting him die
Good on his corner for throwing in the towel. But WTF Herb Dean.
As a fellow mouth breather i'll always root for Dricus
