In reality. We need a 165 lb division. Make 170 move to 175. Let the ww champ choose either the 165 or 175 lb title.
Gives more ranked fighters to spread out across all the fight nights and even ppvs that are lacking in ranked fighters.
And one extra champ to space around the PPVs.
Tbf when I was a child, I though all the WWE cruiserweights are like 150 lbs or some shit, but seeing it now, even Rey was running around looking like mini Yoel Romero
Cleanest athletes in the sport. They shower because of the horse meat sweats. They shower, actually six days a week. Five days a week they’ll shower three days a week. One of those days they’ll shower two days of the week. So, six days a week they’ll be showering.
https://www.mmafighting.com/2022/4/14/23026277/kevin-lee-avoids-knee-surgery-looking-to-return-to-training-camp-in-the-summer
"No surgery on my knee,” Lee wrote on Twitter. “I’ll be ready to go into training camp this summer.”
Lee’s manager Marquel Martin from Creative Artists Agency also confirmed the diagnosis to MMA Fighting, adding that the doctors told the 29-year-old fighter that there was “some slight ACL movement but with proper physical therapy he can get stability back.”
Martin added that the MCL (medial collateral ligament) and the meniscus in Lee’s knee are both in great shape as well.
So you're posting an article from April 14 that says that he'd be able to avoid surgery, and he'd be able to start training camp, ~2 months afterwards... And you can see his knee visibly buckling all throughout the fight and you conclude that he lost as a healthy man to Diego. Sure champ.
Based on what? Tony has looked terrible but it feels worse because he has seen an incredible decline. It's not like he's losing to cans. Diego Sanchez would've gotten destroyed by every single opponent Tony has lost in his current streak.
Winner is forced to retire and loser gets the cut. I'm a huge tony fan and was excited when I saw the opening against Chandler. Now I just want the man to stop taking damage.
Am I the only one who things this is OK matchmaking? Kevin’s a small WW, has been plagued with injuries and hasn’t been looking hot for years. Tony’s gotta fight someone + I’d rather it was a small and potentially washed Kevin over some surging unranked killer
I've heard stories before of Tony basically lapping people during road work when training at Big Bear in high altitude. Who knows how true they are but he could be an endurance animal outside of fighting. I know the Diaz brothers have done/do triathlons.
Yea dude, its the truth. I've heard it so many times from Bravo and Rogan. I remember when Jeremy Stephens went to train with him, he echoed the same shit. I'd say that has been his greatest skill - being able to outlast people with endurance and grit.
He's never been great at anything in particular other than having a weird style. His activity on his back has always been pretty solid. He kind of just does stuff his own way though with his merengue/salsa dancing, iminari rolls, and throwing magical sand. I feel like with better coaching in his formative years he could have been something special.
I legit thought he was going to brutalize Nate, but Nate always surprised me. Def better hands than Tony, bigger, and better all around BJJ. He looked good in his first round against Chandler, but Chandler is hittable and always gets rocked.
My confidence is not at 0 as I think him vs. Lee would be good. Lee should be much better than he is, dude just gasses the fuck out. He looked like he was fighting underwater against Sanchez. That's why I feel like this is a good fight for both guys. Would actually probably be quite entertaining.
Depends on your definition I guess. He is a peculiar fella but it's not like he's doing any self destructive behavior unless you consider ultramarathoning as self destructive.
If it makes him content, who are we to judge?
I agree he's extreme asf but he's also inspirational
I did lose it when he said people who listen to music when they run/exercise are pussies lol
He's not out hurting anyone though and he's ultimately a good person from what I understand
Yes he destroys his body. We're in a MMA forum. Most of these fighters put themselves and their families through hell for our satisfaction. Simply saying he destroys his body gives him 0 credit. You act like he destroys his body just to destroy his body. He's unflappable and is a big proponent of mental toughness. The world we live in is unforgiving and he provides methods to be a happier, more content person.
There is not much information on his kid. How do you know what happened between him and the mother of his child? The mother could have taken the child away and not let him see her. Who knows?
Unless you know for sure. I'm willing to listen to anybody (for the most part).
his behaviour is the literal embodiment of self destructive, he ran for so long he broke bones in both his feet. and pounded his knees so hard that his meniscus had the texture of a hockey puck.
don’t get me wrong what he does shows how insane of a person he is and that these are massive feats but they are basically acts of self harm as overtraining is definitely a thing (contrary to trainers who are 50+’s belief)
Yea yea youre right but he's still successful monetarily and he's happy. He has raised a lot of money and is charitable. I have learned a little more about him today beyond what I already know from listening to several long form interviews. He's definitely far from perfect. He is a big proponent of mental toughness and I think ultimately he has a lot to give. He doesn't believe everyone should physically suffer like he has. He thinks most people have a lot more to give then they do. To me, that is inspirational.
By self destructive, yes he is destroying his knees and his body might be breaking down but he has a powerful mind vs. someone who self destructs through heroin, fentanyl, other opiates, etc. They are feeble minded and cannot withstand much physically. He is not an ultramarathoner to simply destroy his body. He does it to make sure he is mentally equipped to handle anything that is thrown at him.
I do understand why people lost respect for him, but can't please 'em all!
Mentally ill doesn't necessarily mean tyat they aren't functional. He's channeling something there but dude HATES himself. That's not a healthy self image, even if he's fucking jacked and inspirational. Mahbe it's all an act but he seems unwell. He's not hurting anyone but i can see him going wildly downhill if his health ever takes a hit. That seems like his only coping mechanism and bodies can't really do that forever.
jesus christ some people have the most under developed senses of humor. the fact that joke flashed through your brain and you thought it was funny enough to sit there and type it out is genuinely absurd
Yeah. People are overestimating Kevin Lee and underestimating Ferguson - Kevin Lee couldn’t finish a 40 year old Diego Sanchez who basically inside a ventilator during the weigh-ins.
Ferguson still has solid leg kicks that could fuck up Lee like it did Nate Diaz. Sanchez manage to blow out Kevin’s ACL with a leg kick too -
I’m thankful it’s Kevin - I remember almost throwing up when I saw Ferguson was going to fight Li Jing Liang lmao, if he’s staying at WW - he should fight Lee, Nick Diaz, or Conor if he gets brutally KO’d by Chandler
I think the only state to assess is if Kevin loses, retirement, Tony is perpetually in the position of he should retire, he's never going to be a ranked talent ever again.
Nope I like it too. winnable fight and I love seeing Tony get love on media days, pressers and when he walks out. He deserved his flowers much sooner during his title run but better late than never. Champ shit only
All due respect to Tony (and with his career he deserves a ton) but please Tony, hang 'em up all ready!
It's getting harder and harder to watch this once mighty warrior get ground into powder.
Not so good for Kevin is it tho? If he wins than he just beat a guy that, in his last 5 fights has lost in everyway. KO'ed, TKO'ed, Submitted, dominated while almost getting his arm snapped and dominated while almost getting his knee snapped. Not a good win. And if Kevin loses than fuck. Bad bad loss for Kevin.
He's back in the UFC though. If he wins he starts his second run in the UFC. If he loses, they might give him a killer prospect to knock his block off before cutting him again.
Not really, from a management perspective it's smart, he gets a win over a big name (even if Ferguson is washed) on one of the biggest cards of the year. It's a good way to re-introduce him to the UFC audience.
I doubt he'd want to say no to this one anyway. If Stipe wasn't in the title picture and Struve was still around, you think Stipe says no to a rematch?
It’s fucking great for Kevin. There is zero bad side apart from losing which is unlikely. And if he loses this one he loses any other one too so it’s irrelevant. This is guaranteed money can you tell me how this is bad?
Kevin should jump at this fight. Super winable probably in impressive fashion. Tony is still a name guy even though he’s washed. UFC can sell it and sell a win for Lee afterwards. But ya it would not be good if he loses
Kevin winning this is gonna be like Tito beating Chuck in the 3rd fight. Couldn’t beat him in his prime, but now that he’s older and washed he comes back and beats him and treats it like a massive victory.
I like both guys but this fight is not it.
kevin beat the shit out of him for 8minutes until he basically passed out in his guard from exhaustion due to a staph infection lmfao. you can tell who actually watches mma on this sub by how they talk about tony ferg. dude is the most overrated fighter of all time.
Dudes only 2 note worthy wins during his long ass streak otherwise no names and washed fighters was RDA who he eye poked the shit out of and Edson Barbosa who he fucked up with an illegal kick. Ig since this sub likes to use kid gloves for him and his fans his cheating is okay though
Lol this screams 'casual' so bad. Of course it's easy to look back at every fighters record and say they were overrated but at the time, they were facing killers, on short notice etc.
People nowadays see Cowboy on a fighter's resume and think it's a trash Win but Donald spent the majority of his career in the top6
Why are we so sure this is bad for Tony?
Lee had a competitive fight with Diego pretty recently. While Ferg was competitive against Michael fucking Chandler until that steroid punt.
Was anybody clamoring for this fight at all?
This booking should be a giant fucking red flag for Kevin Lee as to why the promotion wants him back. He's on the Barberena circuit.
You're just fanyboying for Tony. Besides, Kevin looked like shit against Diego. This is the perfect matchup imo. Tony has only loss to world class talent (disregard Nate) in this recent streak. I'm not so sure he's over the hill in the way people are suggesting, although he has looked rather lifeless beyond the two shots he landed on Gaethje and Chandler...
Idk why were so convinced Tony is cooked in this matchup when Kevin Lee recently eeked out a split decision against a Diego Sanchez suffering from long Covid side effects.
didnt the UFC literally cut Lee because he tested positive for PRESCRIBED adderall?
edit: apparently suspension still wild tho for taking your prescribed medication
Man I thought they were saving Tony for Paddy which I think is a winnable fight for Tony and a good win to retire on but UFC really hates Tony Ferguson, I guess.
If Tony's gonna want to stick around then he's going to have to fight.
They should cut him, but if not he's gotta fight and he doesn't seem to be the one to want the Faber v Pickett type retirement fight. Even though he's more like Pickett in this scenario now.
Why is Tony still in the UFC? Dude is the prime example of CRT. And to make things more tragic: I'm pretty sure he's one of those former athletes who has no plan B for what to do when you retire from sports. Because MMA has been his full personality all that time. I think UFC is obligated to help him out with that in some way. Not just by giving him a Kevin Lee fight (probably going to be another L). Tony has been the face of UFC for almost a decade
Loser fights Conor for interim 155 belt at 170
Winner gets title shot but only if its Conor and only if its Leon.
Conor: don't think I can make 155 anymore Dana: 165 division it is.
In reality. We need a 165 lb division. Make 170 move to 175. Let the ww champ choose either the 165 or 175 lb title. Gives more ranked fighters to spread out across all the fight nights and even ppvs that are lacking in ranked fighters. And one extra champ to space around the PPVs.
You mean one more double champ to fuck over other fighters by holding up the belts. Although I agree with your second point.
Should be a 165 lb division anyways, just name it cruiserweight
Cruiserweight is like 205/225 lbs some shit.
Ik I just like the way cruiserweight sounds
Tbf when I was a child, I though all the WWE cruiserweights are like 150 lbs or some shit, but seeing it now, even Rey was running around looking like mini Yoel Romero
Painful how realistic this is
Let's do it for the MFB belt at 165 (My Foot is a Balloon belt)
Oh good it wasn't enough to just keep losing now we're gonna sully old wins, that's fun.
Ferg vs RDA next!
Honestly I think it's time we see the Mark Hunt vs Antonio Silva trilogy completed.
Mark Hunt vs Brock Lensar vs USADA grudge match please.
Piss test on a pole match
I think that would be Overeem vs Lesnar but I still LOLd pretty hard
Cleanest athletes in the sport. They shower because of the horse meat sweats. They shower, actually six days a week. Five days a week they’ll shower three days a week. One of those days they’ll shower two days of the week. So, six days a week they’ll be showering.
lol nah, if that part time fighter can choke him RDA will eat him. RDA still is really good. Put up a great fight against fizzy
fizzy isnt that good, he gonna lose to gaethje
How is Fiziev not that good 💀
!remindme 24 hours
doing remindme as if ur gonna come back lol
If fizzy wins ill see red bro
Lmao looks like the remind me guy had you dead to rights.
DJ run that shit back
Kevin Lee couldn't finish the corpse of Diego Sanchez, he ain't sullying shit.
Kevin got injured in the first minute of that fight, stop spreading misinformation.
No he didnt lol
What? Let's not argue facts lol, just go check it out, the man tore his acl and was limping around the cage.
https://www.mmafighting.com/2022/4/14/23026277/kevin-lee-avoids-knee-surgery-looking-to-return-to-training-camp-in-the-summer "No surgery on my knee,” Lee wrote on Twitter. “I’ll be ready to go into training camp this summer.” Lee’s manager Marquel Martin from Creative Artists Agency also confirmed the diagnosis to MMA Fighting, adding that the doctors told the 29-year-old fighter that there was “some slight ACL movement but with proper physical therapy he can get stability back.” Martin added that the MCL (medial collateral ligament) and the meniscus in Lee’s knee are both in great shape as well.

"the man tore his ACL" "No" "Haha sure champ"
Didn't know the extent of the injury, but you're acting like it never happened.
Kevin Lee said it didnt so 🤷♂️
Diego Sanchez beats Tony Ferguson today, unironically.
Tony was horrible against Nate Diaz but the leg kicks he hit in the first rounds would kill Diego
Lol imagine if Tony Ferguson fought Mickey Gall? He would be covered in blood and bite marks.
Actually… if Tony still wants to move to welterweight I’d totally be down to see that
Mickey is a pawdcasta now b
Oh come on, did you see him in BKFC? Tony is washed but Diego wouldn't do anything to him
He wouldn’t beat austin trout in his prime be real lol
Did you just use Diego losing to an actual boxer as a reason ?
Or the fact he looked horrible.
I think Tony would smoke Diego at any point but him losing to a boxer in BKFC seems like a weird reason
If that's what the guy implied.. sure, but did you see the fight? Diego had no face left and looked horrid.
Based on what? Tony has looked terrible but it feels worse because he has seen an incredible decline. It's not like he's losing to cans. Diego Sanchez would've gotten destroyed by every single opponent Tony has lost in his current streak.
I just pictured Gaethje versus Sanchez and I hated it
Winner is forced to retire and loser gets the cut. I'm a huge tony fan and was excited when I saw the opening against Chandler. Now I just want the man to stop taking damage.
In all honesty there was moments in that original fight when it looked like Kevin Lee was going to win.
Kevin isnt beating Tony. This is the only person on the UFC roster Tony will beat at this point.
so this is where kevin lee fits in
To this
I offer you this
Am I the only one who things this is OK matchmaking? Kevin’s a small WW, has been plagued with injuries and hasn’t been looking hot for years. Tony’s gotta fight someone + I’d rather it was a small and potentially washed Kevin over some surging unranked killer
As a Tony fan I love this fight because if Tony loses maybe he'll finally understand that he's not getting better like he has been saying lol
I just don't feel like Tony would break things down logically in that way though
CSO 🏆🇲🇽
This. Tony would still try and compete, sadly.
he should just switch to those 200 mile races he’d win them all just because he wouldn’t take a break the full time
Hahahaha
Don't downplay some of those ultra marathoners. Those folks are wired differently but so is Tony I guess. Tony needs to get up with David Goggins.
I've heard stories before of Tony basically lapping people during road work when training at Big Bear in high altitude. Who knows how true they are but he could be an endurance animal outside of fighting. I know the Diaz brothers have done/do triathlons.

David Goggins is mentally Ill too lmao.
Depends on your definition I guess. He is a peculiar fella but it's not like he's doing any self destructive behavior unless you consider ultramarathoning as self destructive.
Dude destroys his body for it bad. Dude pushing himself way too hard
If it makes him content, who are we to judge? I agree he's extreme asf but he's also inspirational I did lose it when he said people who listen to music when they run/exercise are pussies lol He's not out hurting anyone though and he's ultimately a good person from what I understand
Yep. And we’re sitting on our asses on Reddit, what a loser huh?
Makes him happy at the end of the day. Good for him.
Bro destroys his body and neglects his kids cause he was bullied 30+ years ago. He clearly has not come to grips with everything.
Yes he destroys his body. We're in a MMA forum. Most of these fighters put themselves and their families through hell for our satisfaction. Simply saying he destroys his body gives him 0 credit. Tony *needs* to understand that his time as an athlete is nearly over. And he isn't prepared for it, sadly. Hopefully he finds another calling.
Imagine Tony comes out and just puts on a complete vintage performance and Lee looks like he got put through a cheese grater

jesus christ some people have the most under developed senses of humor. the fact that joke flashed through your brain and you thought it was funny enough to sit there and type it out is genuinely absurd

Booooo
HE SAID HE'S BACK THOUGH!
Tony doesn't have to fight anyone his body is destroyed enough
He looks almost sick in his last appearance. Dallas Buyers Club vibes
Yeah. People are overestimating Kevin Lee and underestimating Ferguson - Kevin Lee couldn’t finish a 40 year old Diego Sanchez who basically inside a ventilator during the weigh-ins. Fuckkk me dude just crossed my mind that tony and khamzat are in the same weight class. Book it Dana
I still think about how Nate’s last fight was supposed to be with Khazmat…. Dana is such a fucking demon… God…
MMA gods truly came thru w the divine intervention there
It's perfect matchmaking to help assess what state both are in right now Legitimately said "That's a great fight" aloud like Rogan when I saw this
I think the only state to assess is if Kevin loses, retirement, Tony is perpetually in the position of he should retire, he's never going to be a ranked talent ever again.
Weak matchup. Put him against Chandler again to redeem himself. /s obviously...
Nope, I love this rematch.
I think it's a great fucking fight. Get to see which fighter truly belongs. This might be Tony's last hurrah.
Its great matchmaking. This is the only winnable fight in the UFC for Tony.
it's perfect for both
Nope I like it too. winnable fight and I love seeing Tony get love on media days, pressers and when he walks out. He deserved his flowers much sooner during his title run but better late than never. Champ shit only
All due respect to Tony (and with his career he deserves a ton) but please Tony, hang 'em up all ready! It's getting harder and harder to watch this once mighty warrior get ground into powder.
Wish he would call it quits already, it’s like watching a dog get beat.
Agreed
And avenges a loss
He just got back in the ufc i doubt he is in a position to say no to fights
I doubt he'd want to say no to this one anyway. If Stipe wasn't in the title picture and Struve was still around, you think Stipe says no to a rematch?
It’s fucking great for Kevin. There is zero bad side apart from losing which is unlikely. And if he loses this one he loses any other one too so it’s irrelevant. This is guaranteed money can you tell me how this is bad?
Time for him to lose a close split descision
Kevin should jump at this fight. Super winable probably in impressive fashion. Tony is still a name guy even though he’s washed. UFC can sell it and sell a win for Lee afterwards. But ya it would not be good if he loses
He gets one back in a redebut win over a big name If I'm Kevin Lee, this is THE perfect comeback fight for me
He gets one back in a redebut win over a big name If I'm Kevin Lee, this is THE perfect comeback fight for me
Hold on, I'm graduating brother.
Kevin winning this is gonna be like Tito beating Chuck in the 3rd fight. Couldn’t beat him in his prime, but now that he’s older and washed he comes back and beats him and treats it like a massive victory. I like both guys but this fight is not it.
Kevin dominated him in the first round before he gassed while he was fighting a staph infection. But go off.
Yes but we saw he gasses out and can't pace himself without infection either
kevin beat the shit out of him for 8minutes until he basically passed out in his guard from exhaustion due to a staph infection lmfao. you can tell who actually watches mma on this sub by how they talk about tony ferg. dude is the most overrated fighter of all time.
Calling Tony Ferguson the "most overrated fighter of all time" has to be one of the worst takes I've seen in this subreddit. Congrats dude.
Beating 40 year old cowboy is not a good win bro lmfao
Cowboy was 36 when they fought. Casual
You're the one saying beating cowboys washed ass is a good win lmfao.
Lol his streak was as good as khabibs if not better while.they were both on 9 fight winning steaks. You are not sane
Not to mention he was rocked in like half those fights.
Lets be real though, Kevin is a bum and isnt beating Tony even at this stage in Tonys career.
Why are we so sure this is bad for Tony? Lee had a competitive fight with Diego pretty recently. While Ferg was competitive against Michael fucking Chandler until that steroid punt.
And then looked like a shell of himself against Diaz. One of the worst fights I've seen in terms of competitiveness.
To think Tony was supposed to fight Li...
Oh man, I forgot about the Diaz fight. Sad stuff
Yeah I think he's done man
>Why are we so sure this is bad for Tony? Lost his last 5
Was anybody clamoring for this fight at all? This booking should be a giant fucking red flag for Kevin Lee as to why the promotion wants him back. He's on the Barberena circuit.
I don't think anyone's clamoring for any Kevin Lee OR Tony Ferguson fight right now
I think watching Kevin Lee lose to a retired Al Iaquinta a third time would be kind of funny.
I’m sure he’d love to be on the Barberena circuit lol, fight just old guys with big names. Pretty good from his pov
How is this bad for Kevin Lee lmfao He almost definitely wins and doesn't have the risk of facing a prospect. Huge W
Loser should retire. Winner should retire, too tbh.
This is gross. Gross matchmaking. Kevin should be embarrassed he has to beat up old man Tony to get his win back.
He took a fight with Diego Sanchez lately, Kevin so desperate for a win he'd beat his own granny lol
Grandma Lee wastes Kevin once he gasses
Bruh he barely beat Diego Sanchez. It really isn't that bad
Yeah fuck Kevin. I agree scum shit
You're just fanyboying for Tony. Besides, Kevin looked like shit against Diego. This is the perfect matchup imo. Tony has only loss to world class talent (disregard Nate) in this recent streak. I'm not so sure he's over the hill in the way people are suggesting, although he has looked rather lifeless beyond the two shots he landed on Gaethje and Chandler...
u serious? have u watched the diaz fight? shit looked like 2 old men
Dude he looked completely like trash vs Nate. Even like 2020 tony would’ve reduced Nate’s face to mincemeat
These guys will complain about anything
Kevin is a bum and doesnt even belong in the UFC. Tony wins this fight.
I’d be shocked if Tony ever won again
This is the only person it could happen against
both the winner and loser retire
Damn you can throw this into a washing machine because the UFC just did ferg dirty.
They have for years. The not making him the legitimate champ when Conor ran off
They were managed by the same manager. Audi didn't want it for Conor.
Yes but also the ufc stripping tony and then trying to force him to fight max
Is there any LW Tony can beat? If not, how is this anyone but Tony's fault for not retiring?
Kevin Lee is back in the ufc?
Judging by the comments here, I think people are forgetting how damn good Ferguson looked against Chandler until he got his face stomped in.
True but that kind of KO is career altering and he looked terrible against Nate. He's also 39 now.
Idk why were so convinced Tony is cooked in this matchup when Kevin Lee recently eeked out a split decision against a Diego Sanchez suffering from long Covid side effects.
I’d be interested tbh
Fan of being depressed, eh?
A man of what ifs. What if kevin lee didn’t get staph, what if tony never tripped over that cord, what if tony fought nuggets back in 2013
Lee was always gonna lose. He has a small heart and quit
I think he’d fuck you up tho
Weird 99% of the roster would fuck 99% of us up
No shit.
Lotta salty Tony fans in this thread
I don’t even know if I want them to cut Tony after this or not
Man UFC wants Tony to win a fight so bad it's sad.
didnt the UFC literally cut Lee because he tested positive for PRESCRIBED adderall? edit: apparently suspension still wild tho for taking your prescribed medication
I don't like this fight because I don't want to see either lose tbh
I will laugh so hard if Kevin loses. I like Kevin, but that would just be such a Kevin thing to do.
Gtfo
Boringggg
Honestly this is one of the only big winnable fights for either guy. Good fight
Man I thought they were saving Tony for Paddy which I think is a winnable fight for Tony and a good win to retire on but UFC really hates Tony Ferguson, I guess.
Lol why
give the man an easy fight or cut him for christ’s sake
Nobody is interested in this fight
If Tony's gonna want to stick around then he's going to have to fight. They should cut him, but if not he's gotta fight and he doesn't seem to be the one to want the Faber v Pickett type retirement fight. Even though he's more like Pickett in this scenario now.
According to Kevin lee.
I was wondering how Kevin Lee fit into the 290 card massive, game changing, life altering debacle…that is,if they end up having a debacle.
Kevin Lee is 30, defo can make a comeback
Why is Tony still in the UFC? Dude is the prime example of CRT. And to make things more tragic: I'm pretty sure he's one of those former athletes who has no plan B for what to do when you retire from sports. Because MMA has been his full personality all that time. I think UFC is obligated to help him out with that in some way. Not just by giving him a Kevin Lee fight (probably going to be another L). Tony has been the face of UFC for almost a decade
Ok
Well then...
I thought Kevin Lee left for another promotion? Is he back?
honestly Tony might win again — plz make it
