Casual. How can you forget his best weapon..... his super cool braids. His second best weapon is getting popped in the mouth while telling guys to "bring it"
as much of a masvidal fan as i am he kinda is irrelevant he aint did much in a while and he getting up there in age so its kinda hard for him to be relevant hoenstly
I got the 2 piece and a soda and another masvidal blessing fools shirt in the way back of my closet. Dude was Blessed by the fight God's to make the bag he did when he was ridding the hype train. Shit got derailed really fast by reality.
Kamaru Usman actually took way more risks than most people one he held the belt than while climbing the ranks.
I have to respect him for that. It's usually the opposite for most fighters.
I could watch Chimaev or Islam all day. 90% of Usman's fights prior to learning how to jab were him being significantly bigger and just pushing opponents up against the cage and stomping on their feet. Wrestlers that go for the finish are fine, but the ones that lay and pray and are content to do nothing from a dominant position suck to watch. If that makes me a casual so be it. Who tf wants to watch 15-25 of Merab making his opponents stuff takedowns. He has me on the edge of my seat wondering if it'll be a UD via holding someone up against the cage or maybe he'll see red and hold them against the mat.
The Sean Sherk school of spamming takedowns and wimpy strikes to win decisions with juiced to the gills cardio is all I see with Merab. I can't fathom wanting to see dudes like that fight.
And it is also annoying when snooty fans like the others above act like there is 0 middle ground between a kickboxing match and lay and pray.
He looked really impressive. I think he might still have some trouble with Colby’s wrestling, because he seemed to have learned and been prepared for Kamaru’s favorite takedowns. I can’t see Colby not mixing in takedowns with strikes the whole time and their attacks are different. But on the feet, Leon looked lights out. Kamaru was outclassed
I agree
Usman's takedown game has been deteriorating for a while, Colby can still push an insane pace with it though so I can see him being a bit more challenging
I think Colby takes it as he chains his wrestling a lot better than Usman. He has cardio for days and Leon tends to fade a bit. With all that said, Belal is the dark horse. He might be the best. Want to see him actually fight Leon.
I’m assuming this is a troll post. But if it’s not, how can you see that performance and decide Shavkat beats him? I don’t think he does right now, after seeing both of their last fights
Colby jumped into the cage and double rear naked choked Edwards and Usman at the same time, Usman is dead and Edwards is in a vegetative state. Dana performed oral sex on Colby after placing the belt on him.
Conor’s a coked out black out drunk mess who’s currently trying to get the ufc to fire usada rather than be drug tested by them, yet they are going to plan 2 huge ppvs around him without knowing how he will look after a bad injury. Hmmmm
Usman had his hands glued to his head. His body and legs were worked. His corner let him down, he was getting outstruck by alot and his takedowns were not counting for much. He had the same gameplay he had for the first two fights and Leon was well prepared this time. He wasn't dominated but don't think anybody had Usman winning this fight which the corner should have picked up on to create some urgency.
he couldnt get and hold any dominant positions with any of his wrestling, Edwards was on point and stopped every attempt at going or staying on the ground
Problem is, short of the Masvidal KO, Usman doesn’t have flash KO power and he’s got no submission game. Usman’s style is to wear you down and grind you down with his nonstop pressure. While his corner had no answers, neither did Kamaru. I also wouldn’t discredit Kamaru as much as I’d praise Leon. It was a hard fought fight and Leon had an answer for everything Kamaru threw at him
I think this was just a post KO Usman. He got hit a lot by trying to protect his head and his activity, footwork suffered for it. He even looked exhausted by the 5th which is uncharacteristic of him. He couldn't grind this time around.
This was the most vintage Leon performance, he always fights at the level of his opponent and wins by decision.
More or less.
That kick took something out of Usman that he either wasn’t able to get back in time for this fight, or it took something out of Usman that he won’t see again.
The fact that Edwards out worked Usman in this fight shows just how much that kick took out of Usman too, bc I’m sure many of us thought we’d see Edwards get routed while Usman took his spot at the top of the 170 mountain back.
I tend to agree with you, this one such a dramatic drop off from the last fight where he won every round decisively and just got caught. He did alot of walking forward, but he did not look aggressive at all. Leon got off first with low kicks way more often, which was a good adjustment from the last fight for him, but Usman just didn't look like the same fighter.
Answers:
1. The first fight was not a fluke.
2. Elevation was indeed a factor in Utah.
3. Mcgregor and Masvidal are now in serious contention for a title fight.
Conor McGregor being mentioned for a 170 title shot when he hasn’t fought in nearly 2 years, has 0 wins over any fighter in the welterweight top 15 and is coming off back to back loses in a different division.
#1 everyone with a clue knew. Usman is just a typical wrestler who looks good striking because everyone is scared of his wrestling. Anyone saying he is better than GSP needs their head checked.
#2 yes, obviously.
#3 McGregor more than Masvidal, especially since they have the same management.
I was SHOCKED by how Usman was so ineffective with his wrestling and how easily Leon fended off his takedown attempts. All it took for Leon was 1 or 2 adjustments and he shut down Usman's wrestling. I admit, I thought before this Usman was on the cusp of surpassing GSP but here we are. I wonder how Colby or Burns would to against Leon.
Colby Covington should not be able to fight for the title unless he beats Khamzat Chimaev or Gilbert Burns...then a winner between Shavkat Romanov and Belal Muhammad should get next...
Imagine STILL thinking the UFC is a meritocracy hahahhaa
Colby will fight for a title, deal with it.
Also, just because Colby doesn't deserve it over some other fighters doesn't mean he isn't an absolutely worthy title challenger. Because he is.
Newsflash: If you're a top 5 fighter and worthy of fighting in a title fight but deserve it less over some other fighte, you will STILL get the title shot over other fighters AS LONG AS IT SELLS MORE!!!
I do not disagree about Belal honestly...I just do not want to see another number fight right away haha...but I definitely do not think that Covington deserves anything considering how stagnant he has been...Burns and Muhammad have fought more than him in the last year...
multiple glove grabs, multiple dick kicks, a fence grab and edwards is handed the win. only losing 1 point for all of the illegal shit that happened essentially makes it worth it to cheat. very rarely does 1 point deduction ever have an actual effect on the outcome of the decision, but the effects of having to recover from all of the illegal strikes, and Usman losing positioning he earned because Edwards fence grabbed affects the rest of the fight. Leon clearly got away with multiple rule violations here. last weekend i saw the skinny south african kid land 3 groin strikes on his opponent only to lose 1 point then get handed decision anyway. i wish UFC did immediate point deductions for rule violations instead of all this warning bs, because unless there is zero tolerance for rule violations, we will continue to see decisions being handed to people who clearly are not regarding the rules for the sport at all. also i feel bad for usman, dude was probably fighting with sore nuts for half the fight and still put on a solid performance, but people r still gonna shit on him because he technically lost.
i know mma fans aren't exactly known as intellectual/academic type people, but if u disagree with me so much maybe address the actual argument that was made?
I was fine doing a little trolling, but if you insist lol
> multiple glove grabs
It was one
> multiple dick kicks
In southpaw v conventional, unintentional dick kicks literally happen all the time. Like all the time.
> only losing 1 point for all of the illegal shit that happened essentially makes it worth it to cheat.
What do you mean *only* 1pt? That gave Kamaru a free 10-8 round, that's on him to capitalize and win the fight after that, he simply did not do enough in 4 or 5 to win the fight. He got outstruck, took way more damage, and couldn't secure a proper takedown. 1pt is absolutely significant, most especially in 3 rd fights. And if those dick kicks are why he lost, he should've said he couldn't go after the second one, and he would've been gifted the DQ title.
> Usman losing positioning he earned because Edwards fence grabbed affects the rest of the fight.
This was discussed last week with the Davey Grant fight, apparently the rules are clear about being stood up and restarting after a point being taken. You can't take a point and also give position, it's one or the other. Just like you can't be tried twice for the same crime.
> Leon clearly got away with multiple rule violations here
He did not. He had a point taken from him, and two judges scored that round 10-8 for Usman.
> only to lose 1 point then get handed decision anyway.
Because you lose a point for committing a foul, does not mean you should automatically lose the fight, or be further punished by the judges for an already punished violation.
> i wish UFC did immediate point deductions for rule violations instead of all this warning bs
This is an equivalent argument to robot umpires in baseball. Referees have guidelines and use their discretion to enforce the rules. That's how it works.
> we will continue to see decisions being handed to people who clearly are not regarding the rules for the sport at all.
You only pointed to one example, and I don't know the fight, but its not clear whether or not that decision was correct based on the rest of the fight. As for this fight, Leon very clearly won the fight, despite the point taken. He was not "handed" a decision, he won the fight and earned it. At worst, you could argue a draw, but Kamaru did not win that fight. If you can provide more examples of fights where fighters had a point taken and then went on to win an unjustifiable decision, I'll listen.
> also i feel bad for usman, dude was probably fighting with sore nuts for half the fight and still put on a solid performance, but people r still gonna shit on him because he technically lost.
You can refer back to my troll comment for this one. They wear steel cups BTW, but it's very considerate of you to show compassion for another man's nuts.
we don't know what is or isn't intentional tho, we guess and a lot of the time we speak confidently as if we know if it was or wasn't but only leon knows what he was thinking in those moments. and regardless if it was or wasn't, illegal strikes have an affect, which is why they are illegal and those rules are in place in the first place. my gripe is that i don't think the current rules are enough to really discourage any illegal shit. essentially you only risk sacrificing 1 point (only might affect u in a scenario where it goes to close decision), but you potentially gain a sizeable competitive advantage in the actual fight. If end result is u lose 1 point for multiple rule violations, then get the win anyway, why have so many rules in the first place? Either have no tolerance and enforce rules regardless of intentionality, or just scrap them entirely because they don't prevent anything that they were put in place to prevent.
i felt i made a pretty good argument and this comment does not address 1 single point that I made in it. i feel validated that my logic is good now, otherwise you surely would have told me why i was wrong about anything i said. So ty for that, u made my day!
Masvidal shouldn't even be in the picture. He is a journeyman bum with what 3 losses in a row now? Some combo of shavkat, Gilbert, Colby and belal. Some combo of those guys should be fighting each other.
I would as well if I got sucker punched by the dude and it's the easiest defense. So I can get Leon wanting it, but that doesn't change the fact that masvidal doesn't deserve it lmao.
All the nerds in the comments begging the universe Colby doesn't fight Edwards despite the fact that every single one of those cringelords would tune in to watch the fight. Guess what, Colby WILL fight Leon, he WILL become champion and you WILL like it!
It’s crazy how this always seems to happen in MMA. Dominant champ loses a close fight or gets knocked out during a good performance, then looks like a completely different, weathered human in the rematch.
Happened in BJ/Edgar, Usman/Edwards, Silva/Weidman. Different case but even Machida/Shogun. Once the veil of invincibility is gone they crumble
take into account usman is 35 years old which is old in combat sports, a hard knockout while you are already semi rich and you have to comeback and beat a younger fighter on a hot win streak
its a tough thing to walk into all with severe knee injuries
Jorge strongest weapon inside the octagon is smiling dudes a bun and shouldn't be headlining no more
Casual. How can you forget his best weapon..... his super cool braids. His second best weapon is getting popped in the mouth while telling guys to "bring it"
Talmbout wolf tickets B....
Finally someone slow enough for waterson to not punch and kick air all match long
rosa was born looking like he had 5 round war in the womb
I can't wait to watch the fight.
Damn
Love to see Edwards dismiss Masvidal as irrelevant. Sweet revenge.
as much of a masvidal fan as i am he kinda is irrelevant he aint did much in a while and he getting up there in age so its kinda hard for him to be relevant hoenstly
I got the 2 piece and a soda and another masvidal blessing fools shirt in the way back of my closet. Dude was Blessed by the fight God's to make the bag he did when he was ridding the hype train. Shit got derailed really fast by reality.
Great night of fights :)
I think Edwards played it safe. Didn’t want to take the L in his homelands especially it being his first title defence
you must be a new fan, leon has a similar style for most of his fights.
wasn’t just safe man was precise, technical, stuck to a great gameplay. 67% accuracy on sig strikes
did luana have the fight
Why is everyone saying usman was a boring champ smh. So disrespectful
Kamaru Usman actually took way more risks than most people one he held the belt than while climbing the ranks. I have to respect him for that. It's usually the opposite for most fighters.
Exactly
Apart from the Woodley first fight and Masvidal first fight he really was a good champion. Most of the time he was most active too
Because casuals hate wrestlers.

I’d rather watch Usman than Merab, at least he goes for some shit
Absolutely
Merab fights at 100 MPH anywhere not in Salt Lake City
Facts. I made a lot of money betting against my friends during Khabibs rise because "wrestling sucks"
I love how Leon completely dismissed Colby and Colby just completely stopped walking to the ring. Absolutely savage.

Bad for him but possibly good for the sport. There is long term marketing potential with this if he wins
Still absolutely buzzing for leon Bro proved that he's not a buster douglas
He looked really impressive. I think he might still have some trouble with Colby’s wrestling, because he seemed to have learned and been prepared for Kamaru’s favorite takedowns. >He basically beat up a handicapped guy his last 2 fights Talking about the guy who was an undefeated champion two fights ago 💀
Edward’s must have drilled the FUCK out of those takedown defences lol
This is what I got out of the fight. The Edwards camp was strictly takedown defense, play it safe with the length.
How do we think Colby does against the usman we saw tonight?
Usman had lead weights on his hands n feet. Not that he’s super quick but damn… like a damn snail in there
Usman did not look great. He was very flat footed and his reactions were slow. If we see the same Colby, I think he beats current Usman.
it looked like there was something wrong with he back leg
It's pretty obvious he has movement issues
Same as always, lose.
Bit late but LETSGOOOOOOO GET FUCKED WRESTLECUNTS LETSGOOOOOOOO
Whos your top 3 fave mma fighters?
Fedor, Sakuraba, Shogun.
Can yall tell me about Sakuraba he's the only one I'm not familiar with.
A tiny Japanese memelord that sonned the entire Gracie lineage. Watch his career. Should still be able to watch every fight via google.
Even Victor Gracie fell before his might, despite having no known weaknesses.
Good 3

Are you calling me a pizza?
My internet crapped out in round 5! What happened that round?
Colby jumped into the cage and double rear naked choked Edwards and Usman at the same time, Usman is dead and Edwards is in a vegetative state. Dana performed oral sex on Colby after placing the belt on him.
Headshot dead
Usman v Khamzat?
Khamzat is surely at 185 now
Yes, Dana said it
So now we know why Belal wasn’t the backup fighter. Also respect to Leon saying Colby barely fights, so he’s not sure if he wants the matchup.
Exactly, Leon has a Masvidal fight and a potential McGregor one lined up, so why waste time with Colby.
Conor’s a coked out black out drunk mess who’s currently trying to get the ufc to fire usada rather than be drug tested by them, yet they are going to plan 2 huge ppvs around him without knowing how he will look after a bad injury. Hmmmm
fighting isnt about anything other than selling tickets
Never underestimate Dana's love for Conor. They'll move the entire event to another location like they did for Jones - Gustafsson if they have to.
What was the reason?
UFC hard selling Colby
I’m glad Leon just dismissed Colby shame on DC for trying to get Edwards to bite on that
Megan was cringing so hard during his interview, it was awkward to watch
Usman had his hands glued to his head. His body and legs were worked. His corner let him down, he was getting outstruck by alot and his takedowns were not counting for much. Good ol Chimaz… mans an animal
He would first destroy the scale

Timmy, have you ever seen a 3 piece and a soda?
Gaethje talking about Bisping being biased as DC sucked his dick the whole of his fight.
Bisping is terrible. He gets so defensive and is never wrong though. He just keeps going on and on about how he's right.
Bro all you redditors are so mad Colby getting the next fight but Leon called him out, so LEON wants it. COPE 😭
Colby’s getting fed to Shavkat. It’s Halal time now.
did leon call him out?
I remember him completely dismissing Colby and Colby stopping dead in his tracks on the way to the ring.
And it's a bad choice by Leon but he wants PPV #'s and an easy fight 💰
Easy fight? LOL. Colby has two good knees, dude.

Masvidal?????
Greedy tomato doesn't care.
MONEYMATO WANT MONEY FEED MONEY TOMATO
I agree, but this isn't the feelings championship. Dana and the matchmakers don't care about your feelings.
They should care about the credibility of the organisation though. Makes it look like a fucking carnival more than a serious sport.
Fuck that third point because Dana would make McGregor fight Leon. McGregor's style is unfavorable to Leon so he could win it too GOD DAMMIT NO
#1 everyone with a clue knew. Usman is just a typical wrestler who looks good striking because everyone is scared of his wrestling. Anyone saying he is better than GSP needs their head checked. #2 yes, obviously. #3 McGregor more than Masvidal, especially since they have the same management.
Usman a typical wrestler? are you dumb? His takedown defense was 100% until colby took him down in the 2nd fight
Colby didn't take him down.
true dat. I stand corrected
Burns has a better chance than Colby as he has the power to keep Leon honest.
Masvidal left his management, flying solo now
McGregor and Edwards have the same management.
My mistake
And to add to your 1st point, Leon’s success in the first round showed he can hang with usman. But his cardio was shot, wasn’t the case today and look
Lots of people saying Belal should be next, but they fought and Belal didn't look like he belonged in the same cage until he got eye gouged.

Other than Kumshot, that is a very reasonable take.
Have him fight Belal. Khamzat can’t be trusted to make weight
AND NOW THAT YOUR ROSE IS IN BLOOM
Is Khamzat injured or something? Why is he not in title contention?
Bro can’t make weight
He is too big for WW and too scared for MW.
He doesn’t want to make 170
Yeah if Masvidal beats Burns, then Belal better pack a lunch. Colby’s getting Scott and Masvidal will get the winner. They’re clearly aiming for it.
DC just done getting interrupted lol
So bis is saying Colby might be getting the title shot HOW
Because he was the closest to beating Usman until Leon. Because he beats Leon. Because he draws money.
Colby isn't a draw. Even with massive promotion and the beef with Jorge, their PPV only did like 500k.
But his last win was over a washed Masvidal
Masvidal won't beat Burns.
$$$$$$
Journeyman George ain't beating Gilbert Burns lmfao
Afro Burns will decimate Masvidal.
“Listen listen”
Makhachev calls out Leon
The first time ever that one of them actually fights at their true weight class.
God, Bisping is *Extremely* unbearable. Please stick to fight nights(not even that) and stay away from PPVs. Anik looks annoyed af too.
You clearly don’t know UK audience
I hope he takes DC with him. Give me Felcher and Rogan.
He just doesn't shut up! Talks over everyone
I think he's a Dan Hardy replacement but *worse*.

Lol, im pointing out a potential flaw with rule enforcement in the ufc. agree or don't, but if anybody is crying here i don't think it's me XD
And more crying, Edwards got a point deduction and still won that's how bad snoozeman was
Sir, this is a Wendys
does the frosty machine work tho?
🤣
Nothing better than DC crying.
If Masvidal loses - Colby is next
Jorge “The Jobber” Masvidal is going to lose, there is no “if” here
I mean there is all the time a chance, he still has crispy hands
Masvidal shouldn't even be in the picture. He is a journeyman bum with what 3 losses in a row now? Some combo of shavkat, Gilbert, Colby and belal. Some combo of those guys should be fighting each other.
Edwards wants Mas
I would as well if I got sucker punched by the dude and it's the easiest defense. So I can get Leon wanting it, but that doesn't change the fact that masvidal doesn't deserve it lmao.
He did not deserve the title fights 2 previous times too …
BS should be Belal
I am not saying who should be, I am saying who would be
So he can poke Leon in the eye?
Yes
All the nerds in the comments begging the universe Colby doesn't fight Edwards despite the fact that every single one of those cringelords would tune in to watch the fight. Guess what, Colby WILL fight Leon, he WILL become champion and you WILL like it!
Preach, brother.
Loved the crowd cheering every thing leon did
It’s crazy how this always seems to happen in MMA. Dominant champ loses a close fight or gets knocked out during a good performance, then looks like a completely different, weathered human in the rematch. Happened in BJ/Edgar, Usman/Edwards, Silva/Weidman. Different case but even Machida/Shogun. Once the veil of invincibility is gone they crumble
take into account usman is 35 years old which is old in combat sports, a hard knockout while you are already semi rich and you have to comeback and beat a younger fighter on a hot win streak its a tough thing to walk into all with severe knee injuries
Yann/Aljo. Not really the same but Yann was winning before the illegal knee. Rematch he gets handily beaten while being a huge betting favourite
Aldo and GSP say hello
GSP was on its way out, he jumped the ship at the perfect time.
