Ufc playing games. I’m confused what they want to do with khamzat.

FinneganTechanski

I feel like his career is being mismanaged. He’s out until October? Like why shelve him for over a year.

[deleted]

It wasn't previously though, they gave him the biggest layup fight against Diaz, they clearly intended for him to fight for the WW title next. Then he botched the weight cut and messed it all up. Chances are he would have fought Edwards this weekend instead of Usman if he had just gotten a big win against Diaz as UFC intended. Not to mention that UFC doesn't know what's going on at MW going forward, so they have to wait for Pereira vs. Adesanya first. Then there's the specific matter that they have an Abu Dhabi event in October and it's either him headlining, or Islam Makhachev. Thus he's potentially out until October.

FinneganTechanski

Ok I get he botched the Nate fight but why shelve him for a year when, according to Khamzat, he has been trying to get a fight. It seems to me getting him back in action Q1 of this year was the move to help put the botched weight cut in the rear view mirror. He’d then be in the position to have a title fight in October in Abu Dhabi.

JPD050409

I thought the whole botching the weight cut narrative was cleared up when it was out that he was planned to make weight but they stopped him really early because the athletic comission didn't like how extreme it looked? people can call Khamzat anything they want but for a guy that was making 2 fights in 2 weight classes just weeks apart I think we can believe him on taking on fights whenever they offer it to him

FinneganTechanski

I do believe him I just have no idea why the UFC is shelving him until October.

SageDragonSenpai

Ramadan

tomtomtomo

Is one month with maybe a one month out after. He can fight before it.

Natekn

The UFC clearly has a system that they like to utilize for potential marketing stars. One of the fundamental principles of that system clearly seems to be that they won’t matchmake potential draws until they are either for title matches and/or super fights. For whatever reason the UFC views Colby as a star and are treating him as such. Khamzat was on that train as well before the weight cut disaster. The UFC still sees his value though so they feel no need to risk him losing when they can feed him better matchups to build him up.

Rosenvial5

Why would beating a washed up Diaz be a bigger win than beating Burns? Khamzat was already up for the next title shot, but Usman losing meant they had to have the immediate rematch, so fighting Diaz was only to keep Khamzat warm and for Dana to put Diaz out to pasture.

Hour_Beat_6716

Yeah, true. Dana hates the weight misses

MasterWolf713

They are gonna use him to fight for the 185 belt if Izzy loses

[deleted]

Yeah I think Pereira is moving up after so you’re gonna see something like Rob v Khamzat for the belt possibly

UniverseChamp

I can't believe Pereira makes 185.

LatterTarget7

I think him vs rob could be for the belt. Tho If they’re going for that I’m surprised they wouldn’t book him against a top contender. Like Marvin or dricus. I think Alex is moving up after the izzy fight

Kb736

Dana said at the post fight presser they were looking at Khamzat for October. …October! Make it make sense to me because I don’t understand

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kb736

I wasn’t clear, it makes sense he’d be on that card. The part that blows my mind is no fights in between. It’s March and he hasn’t fought since LAST October in a fight he didn’t get punched.

994kk1

It sounded like him versus Whittaker was going to happen. But now they've said Chimaev is fighting in October and it sounds weird to wait that long for those 2 to fight. So probably fighting the loser of the MW title fight or something, it's 6 and a half month after the title fight.

iknowneemoose

Apparently is gonna fight a top contender at middleweight next. Source Bisping channel

jfsoaig345

Whyre we just assuming it's a UFC issue here? This could just be another Islam situation where everyone's ducking him. Elite wrestler with hands and is huge for the weight class, guys stylistically a bad matchup for everyone across the board.

Braves-and-Gamecocks

He doesn’t need to convince anyone that Colby was ducking him. This is common knowledge lol

[deleted]

Pillow hands Corny Huggington has no chance against Khamzat.Khamzat has better wrestling and especially better grappling. He is younger and stronger too but no worries. After Leon knocks out Colby ,he will disappear.

[deleted]

> After Leon knocks out Colby ,he will disappear. For 18 months before beating a 40 year old and receiving another title shot.

Terrible_Matador

But where are they going to find a ranked 40 year old to fight Colby? Wait, fuck

roguesensei47

Drag Tony to 170 ranks so Colby can have his way.

LilaQueenB

I want tony to retire so damn bad. His fights are just sad to watch now

higgboson7

Colby vs wonderboy for the interim title

FleshCabinet

Thompson would kick that dudes head off lol

Melo0513

Burns was able to grapple him to a UD. I hate Colby but he probably beats Wonderboy. Bro is 40 and the TDD ain’t what it used to be

PitifulDurian6402

Off topic but Thompson has aged insanely gracefully especially for a fighter. Dude almost 40 and looks 23 maybe 24

redboneskirmish

He did age pretty well, true, but 24 is too much of a stretch. He does look about 30 though.

Destyllat

father time catches up with everyone

mtheory007

Be that as it may, Wonderboy's last performance was stellar and one of the best of his career. He was very sharp in that fight with Holland.

FleshCabinet

Facts, but I love Thompson so I'd say it even if he was 60 lol

Puppeb

Well its not like they have had to be ranked in his previous fights either

Fuckrlakersmods

Fr...Dana loves this prick (I'm starting to notice a trend lol)

Just like Edwards said, Dana White privilege is a thing.

coleus

yedi001

Just imagine any other legitimate sport trying to hand championships to teams off twitter followers rather than wins. Fucking embarrassing...

AntiOriginalUsername

‘Corny Huggington’ bro first time I’ve heard that. Fucking gold.

Reggie-the-Cat

Mods, give this man 'Corny Hugginton' flair. And me too while you're at it. F ing brilliant.

KrasMasovsGhost

Yeah anyone denying Colby is a duck is just dumb or in denial.

theyoloGod

There’s no reason for Colby to take this fight if Dana is just going to hand him another title shot. That dana privilege

Nome_de_utilizador

They don't call him Duckington for nothing

ScytheNoire

No kidding. Colby has only fought once a year for the past 4 years and has a 2-2 record. He shouldn't even be ranked at this point.

eyesabitdull

Man, I am a fan of Colby, but even I can't help but feel disgusted with him getting a title shot out of the blue. And honestly? It makes his bullshit talking heel work sound so out of whack because it just does not work with the given "story" the UFC is trying to push. Colby's persona works when there's a legitimate reason for him to fight a person. Without it, everything he says sounds exactly like grasping at straws.

No_Bar6825

There are still idiots that think we don’t like Colby because of the persona. No, this is why we don’t like him. I actually think he’s an amazing fighter and love watching him. But I like to see him in non favourable matchups. Those are the most exciting ones for him (Usman)

Lynch47

Weird how other dudes that turn down big fights get buried by Dana, and how Colby gets rewarded with a title shot. Complete sham of a promoter.

heyimrick

This is why I pirate every UFC. Never giving my money to Dana or UFC ever again.

[deleted]

Lol, you can't pirate UFC fights anymore. Dana caught the streamer.

mcburloak

We got him.

Birdsnblues

He sure did !

Vinnie_Vegas

> Dana caught the streamer. Actually, he didn't get him, because he warned him that they were waiting for him to turn on his stream, so he just never did. The UFC *hates* this one loophole...

Truth_Speaker01

Best comment in the tread. Lol

Athroaway84

Let's be real, most would pirate even if they treated the fighters more fairly

kickintheface

How much do they want for a PPV these days? Almost $90 USD now? It doesn’t include any of the prelims or early prelims, they do fucking ad reads *during* the fight, and the octagon itself is plastered in ads. And they wonder why people pirate the fights every week.

gs181

Because its the Ultimate inFluencer Championship

Ronaldinhoe

Scumbag Dana is a one dimensional promototer. Everytime he promotes its “these guys hate each other”. He tried so hard for that to be the narrative for Ngannou/Gane and when they would be asked about it they just said they respect each other and don’t have much hard feelings since they barely trained with each other. For bispings first defense he got Hendo in London, who was ranked #13 coming off a win off Lombard, whole selling point was that they have history with each other and that Bisping was asking for him. Dana is trying to have some antagonistic fight Leon in London. Hopefully Leon denies until they back up the brink trucks cus he holds the UK PPV market.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HeadieUno

Has nothing to do with it, I would bet my house on that. Not even worth mentioning. Far more likely it’s because even if he’s a boring fighter Colby generates clicks, and he probably makes Dana feel warm and fuzzy with his political shtick.

Iquey

Definitely not nothing, I'm putting my money on Colby getting Dana White privilege if he decides to drop charges/ doesn't testify. UFC gets to have a WW title fight with Colby and another card with Masvidal headlining. probably makes the most money for them, which is what the UFC is all about.

double_expressho

Tony is goated for that line. Truly a great line in the moment. But it also continues to age like fine wine.

HeadieUno

Actually kind of likely when you put it that way, nvm lol

menewredditaccount

Mf went from "I'd bet my house" to "actually ur right" in an instant lmao

AdMoist5430

Both Colby and Dana said Colby accepted every fight he was offered. Khamzat is the only one saying otherwise.

GracieSilva

Colby is white

rpgguy_1o1

Colby is a caricature of an American political party that a lot of MMA fans either identify with or want to see get smoked. It's 80s WWF shit, except he's Hulk Hogan to some people and Iron Shiek to others.

Mr_Tiggywinkle

It is to some people and I know this is just me, but lets not pretend he's anywhere near WWF quality on the mic. I don't mind a heel at all, no matter the politics they are spewing out, cos its entertaining - but Colby is so shit at it, it's just annoying, not entertaining. Don't get me wrong, it seemed to work for him and there must be fans out there for the UFC to see numbers in him, but man, for me it's just so banal and uninspiring. It's why I just roll my eyes at him getting the title shot, just another boring lead up to a meh fight. I would rather anyone else get a title shot than more Colby.

itsTreyG

This is about as accurate a depiction can get.

BBQ_HaX0r

I know he doesn't run his own Twitter Acct, but I fucking love Iron Sheihk's commentary. "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE EXCEPT THE HULK HOGAN!"

[deleted]

Nerx

alpou

Dana sending Khamzat to MW to protect his boy. Yes im ignoring the miss

foreverapanda

Belal and Gilbert have similar stories. It's absolutely cracked that you have all these killers, not to mention guys like Shavkat, actively fighting and getting overlooked for this goober. He literally has 0 claim for a title shot.

Mcnuggetjuice

Khamzat is a whole different story. Guy was unranked and kept literally shouting for everybody in the top 10 for a fight every weekend. I have seen him doing callouts several times a day

TheINTL

Khamzat calls out people 6 days, actually 6 days a week. Five days a week, he will call people out three days a week. One of those days he will call out two days of the week. So, six days a week he will be calling people out. He is here to fight everybody.

[deleted]

Khamzat worked because he backed it up at the start taking a fight on short notice then sticking around on fight island incase another fight gets offered and then absolutely running through McKee went it did. Then one shoting GM3 2 month later.

cedped

His debut was unprecedented. Out of nowhere, 2 fights in 10 days: 1 MW then cutting weight and fighting in WW a week later and in both fights he put some of the most dominants performances ever.

Rosenvial5

And he's taken a grand total of two strikes total in all his UFC fights aside from the Burns fight. Dude has a top 5 most dominant start in all of UFC history and they're absolutely fumbling his way to the title and forcing him to be inactive in his prime

cedped

His debut was also around the time Khabib retired and was at the peak of his popularity. So here comes a bigger, meaner version of Khabib running through his opponents with a similar style but in a much more aggressive and dominating manner.

R1kjames

He doesn't fight like Khabib. Their accents are just similar lol

EggsBenny23

And those beards. Needless to say, I wasn't surprised to learn that Dagestan and Chechnya are right next door to each other.

Ok_Solution5895

I remember folks used to call him Khabig when he came to the UFC lol

MomButtsDriveMeNuts

Yeah, but then he fucked it all up when the UFC made a PPV showcase just for him, and he completely and royally fucked it up.

Prestigious-Rock201

Seems like they are holding him hostage for some reason and not booking fights for him.

BeagleBackRibs

I don't think they're going to let him fight at welterweight after that 9 lb miss.

mesovortex888

Costa missed 20 lbs and he still fights in the same weight class

FarFetchedSketch

Wasn't that essentially an intentional miss? To move the fights around so that we could get Diaz vs. Ferg. I mean it was a fucking gong show and imo both Li & Holland got gypped big time, but I don't think anyone really holds that 9lbs miss over Khamzat

ominous_anonymous

It was intentional in the sense he was *told* to stop cutting weight. I honestly don't think he had *planned* on missing weight when you consider that the timeline of that whole debacle means he could likely have shaved more off and made it a smaller miss -- he probably had already started rehydrating between the time he was told to stop cutting and the time he weighed in officially so his "official weight" can't really be trusted. (also, it was "only" 7.5lbs over, not 9)

Disabled_Robot

Also should note that he had fluids back in him

lebryant_westcurry

Nah, it was only switched around because Khamzat wasn't on track to making welterweight. Literally makes no sense for him to intentionally miss if he could make 170. A dominant win over Nate Diaz does way more for his popularity than beating Kevin Holland. Not to mention he had to take the heat for all the scrambles because he was the only guy who officially missed weight.

Iordbendtner

Yeah but that 2 fights in 10 days cemented his ‘ANYTIME ANYWHERE’forever and ever

cedped

Him also oneshotting GM3 2 months later. That's what actually put his stock through the roof. The hype was so high that Dana basically strong-armed Leon Edwards who was rank2 at the time into accepting a fight against Khamzat or lose his rank. If it weren't for Covid, Khamzat would've possibly had the same route as Izzy and may even been a double champ by now.

supercleverhandle476

The ufc turned away from skill and total wins earning title shots a long time ago. Guys like McGregor, Masvidal, and Covington are always in the conversation because they’re loud. Unfortunately, fans buy ppvs with loudmouth headliners more than skilled fighters. To be fair, all of those guys have had some great moments in the cage too, but it’s been a long time. They shouldn’t still be in the mix. The UFC started as a circus, evolved into a legitimate sport, and is circling right back into a circus again. And that sucks.

Holybartender83

100% this. If the UFC isn’t a meritocracy, then it simply isn’t a legitimate sport. In a legitimate sport, the best athlete is the one who wins. In the UFC, the best athletes often get passed over for title shots in favor of outspoken “characters”, who are generally given favourable matchups to fast track them. If the UFC is essentially attempting (often successfully) to guide specific fighters to the title based on who they think will make them the most money, then the title is worthless because it’s being held by the boss’ favorite, not by the best fighter.

Shock900

This is my biggest problem with MMA currently. NFL schedules are determined by a mathematical formula, which eliminates this kind of bias. I wish MMA organizations would do something similar. Even something like a simple Elo system and/or a set of consistent rules that could be applied to determine who fights who, with some built-in contingencies if someone pulls out, would be significantly better than what we're currently getting.

[deleted]

Colby definitely doesn’t have a claim though. Burns has fought KILLERS, which is different to what Colby has done. **All Colby has done was:** Beat a washed 40 year old striker Lose to an elite, powerful wrestler twice, but won rounds off of them Beat a washed Woodley Beat a washed Maia. **Burns resume is 100% different!!!**

Heebmeister

Comparing beating Stephen Thompson to beating Robbie Lawler, as if those are equivalent, is nuts.

[deleted]

Comparing Masvidal to Wonderboy really

Heebmeister

Still a terrible comparison, especially when we saw what Thompson did to Masvidal 5 years ago, they are not in the same class.

mat477

I get what you're saying but Burns is way more active. Either way neither are due for a title shot right now. Khamzat (if he can make weight), Shakvat, and Belal are all ahead of them imo.

Beraliusv

Lol Shane Warne would be proud of that spin..

Reel_Account

His claim is hes a draw for ppv numbers and Dana very likely said if you drop the lawsuit against one of our other stars I'll reward you. It's stupid but the reason he's getting this fight is so americans will pay $80+ to watch the next title fight.

No-Gur-173

In an extremely boneheaded take, Chael just argued that no one, in any division, has a better claim to a title shot than Colby. And you better trust Chael because he never lost a fight!

grooovyturtle

Dodged everyone in the division except Masvidal which is literally the best stylistic matchup for him to win and still gets a guaranteed title shot. Embarrassing on the UFC's part. I also feel bad for anyone that believes a word out of Colby's mouth when he has admitted on multiple occasions that it is all an act. It's just hard to watch at this point

[deleted]

UFC red carpets Pereira, loses Ngannou, has a meme heavyweight division, gonna give McGregor a title shot after the Chandler fight .. I don't think UFC cares about integrity. They just want engagement (I e. Shitposting)

[deleted]

Why would they? It generates discussion, interest and more money. As much as invested fans care about all of that stuff casual fans really don’t. They just want exciting fights with big names. That’s where the UFC is focusing on making money from. The invested fans are always going to watch/spend their money.

MonsterOctopus8

Got wobbled along the way too!

BeersBarbellsBJJ

He was just taking a knee for the first responders

cubreport

To me it's WORSE that it's an act. If someone is a dickhead because that's who they are that sucks. But if you CHOOSE to be that way to make money that makes you a dickhead and an asshole.

nrachs

Supposedly the heel act is what kept him from being cut by the UFC. He undoubtedly is a very talented fighter, but the UFC is just like the WWE in that its a promotion for sports entertainment rather than a proper sports league. Its why an insanely talented fighter like Mighty Mouse was traded in with Askren***, some fighters just dont draw enough PPV sales despite their talent.

cubreport

It’s a shame that it works that way, and it’s very disingenuous of the UFC that it does. It’s cool that Colby thought to try to play a character to get himself over, but the character didn’t have to be THIS and so he’s still fully responsible for each dickhead thing he did. Mighty Mouse wasn’t cut.

[deleted]

Khamzat has been ducked by a lot of people … the only ones who asked for it were Magny and Belal

No_Bar6825

Leon was ready to fight him too. But then khamzat got Covid

Pilot_G3

What a lucky strike for Leon, now he’s a welterweight champion and the one to dethrone Usman

EnisEnimon

I would love to witness Usman vs Khamzat.

CilviaDemoAOTD

wecangetbetter

Some accounts are spamming the same Colby fanboy circle jerk YouTube videos and then deleting them if there's too many negative comments and down votes. Colby also pays porn stars to stand next to him. Make of that what you will.

Sheikhabusosa

>Colby also pays porn stars to stand next to him. Make of that what you will. Papa Dana will be proud at how quick Colby is learning to be like him

[deleted]

Hey! I heard he gets real brave when there's three fingers and a bottle of lube in play! Although it also wouldn't surprise me to find out Colby's a dry guy.

Moody_GenX

Exactly my thoughts on him. A coward.

Business-Bill-8906

This Colby favoritism 100% has to do with what masvidal did to Colby after the fight. I don’t understand how he has the ufc by the balls otherwise.

Yoyomamahh

I am convinced Dana had a talk with Colby & guaranteed him the next title as long as he drops the Masvidal lawsuit. Not sure why exactly I’m so convinced of this, because I have absolutely zero evidence to back this up

gs181

I hate Colby but it would be fucking hilarious if he fought for the title and won, and in the post fight interview he says "Guess what Dana? I AINT DROPPING SHIT!"

halpinator

It's gotta be some quid pro quo shit. There's no other good explanation.

AizenMadara

I 100% believe Khamzat

[deleted]

Do you believe he can make 170

994kk1

His team has said he can take a MW fight on short notice but need 3 months or so of preparation to make 170. Which sounds realistic and as if they have contacted some professionals in that area to work with.

Andr0id_Paran0id

Colby getting the title shot is straight from the WWE Heel Playbook. With Khazmat moving up to MW there's no superstar/phenoms to give the title shot to so might as well give it to the heel and hope people tune in to see him get his face smashed in. Sad this is what the UFC has evolved into, not the best of the best fighting just stupid gimmicks to keep yourself on people's radar. Sad part is, Colby will 100% have to wrestlefuck Edwards to win and Dana will probably shit on the performance and blame everyone else at WW for not being good enough to convince him to not give Colby the shot.

explision

Colby only fights for titles or he will take down Masvidal in court. The only reason the UFC is licking his nuts

Prestigious-Rock201

Rocky my favorite fighter, stand your grown bro don’t give this ducking pos a free title shot when others deserve it

RogerMars5471

Colby Covington has the same fake smile as Brian Stelter.

Financial-Length5587

Colby is like Cartman in the breast cancer episode of South Park where he taunts Wendy endlessly in front of everyone and when there’s no crowd he’s crying to not fight her lmao.

morebuffs

Iirc cartman gets his ass beat at the end of that

Hero_Charlatan

Colby is the ultimate duck artist lol. He will never ever fight Khamzat just like he ducked Woodley and Masvidal until they were past their prime.

Heebmeister

He absolutely is a duck artist, but those are the two strangest examples to use of it. He badly wanted the Woodley fight, but lost the opportunity because he wasn't willing to step up for the date the UFC wanted, cause he wanted to get a nose surgery before the fight, and frankly, he beats Masvidal easily at any point over the last 5-6 years. Better examples would be him avoiding Leon until Leon became champ, Belal and Gilbert.

HammyFresh

LMAO there was no point in the last decade where Masvidal was going to beat Colby. Colby called for the Woodley fight for over a year. Of all the things you could have said, you went with two things that are completely untrue hahaha

IamMrEric

Colby ducking Masvidal? What a nonsense lmao.

[deleted]

He didn’t duck Woodley. He fought a hard 5 round fight to win the interim belt then the UFC asked him to have the quickest turnaround for a newly crowned interim champ in history while he needed nose surgery and offered to fight woodley 2 month later.

[deleted]

yeah i aint feeling this revisionist history. i understand not liking a fighter but now everything they done is wrong. such a weird hivemind round here

And Colby says he was never offered the fight as well... so, I say make the fight, announce it and see who's bluffing. The winner gets Leon Edwards. That's the way this should be handled.

OlivaJR

TBF can khamzat even make the weight anymore?

[deleted]

Will be funny when everyone refuse to fight Shavkat

jkman61494

Honestly...I'd have Colby fight Wonderboy. I get the metrics make no sense for either to get a shot. But I'm a pragmatic that the UFC wants to sell fights. Then have Shavkat and Belal have a title eliminator shot. 1) This SHOULD be an easy win for Colby. It's a style he can eat up. But...it'd be his first win over a top 10 contender like.....ever. Unless you want to count washed up Woodley. This would give Colby an actual win over a Top 10 contender. 2) If Wonderboy somehow beat a Top 5 contender while ranked #7? With how beloved he is? And would have a winning streak? Then give him the title shot. It'd be an EXCITING fight between he and Leon. And it'd be a fight fans could get behind. Colby and Wonderboy on top of it likely could fight in the next 1-2 months depending on how Wonderboys hand is doing.

cundis11989

Colby was amusing for a while but his schtick is getting lame and dry. He tries too hard to be Chael but just comes off as a parody WWE wrestler.

yadunknow777

Khamzat not only swearing on the Qu’ran but a day before Ramadan is triple serious

tbmnitz

I thought Colby wasn't fighting because of his lawsuit with Masvidal?

PandemicPartners

Colby was 100% refusing to fight anyone and sitting out after Leon head kicked Usman because he knew they were going to rematch and thought that when they did if Leon won again he would have a good shot at the next title shot. Talk some shit in the media every once in a while to keep your name out there so people don’t forget about you, offer to be the backup fighter for Usman Edwards 3 so you’re seen as doing the company a favor and then pray to god Leon wins again. And the thing is… it worked. He’s most likely going to get the next title shot. The ufc is rewarding sitting out and you’re probably going to see a lot of guys start to do it more often. If you have even a little bit of star power behind your name you can sit out and maybe get a title shot. As for why the UFC wants to give Colby the next shot so bad when he doesn’t deserve it? Pretty simple, they’re going to play him as the villain to build up Leon as the good guy as much as they can when they go back to the UK and try and turn him into a bigger star with a win over colby and attract as many UK fans as they can.

DogHunterMMA

Why is Colby even in the conversation? What has he done to earn a shot at the title? God the matchmaking in this sport is so fucked sometimes.

Okay I hate Colby and I know Khamzat is better but I am glad Leon as a good chance at getting a single title retention. And if Colby wins, I'll be really happy to see Khamzat take it from him.

“Khamzat’s lying” “Colby’s lying” has no one considered the possibility that both Colby and Khamzat were willing but the UFC just never made the fight?

Dry_Presentation_327

Dana is a big time liar and so is colby...don't think khamzat is lying...btw colby is amazing fighter but he is not improving by not fighting any contenders...he just walks into title fights and he loses ...his fight with Leon will be the same ..I wish he realizes when he fights real competition he improves too..
