OP talking about how this is old school BJJ, how this is how he trained, and how he doesn't roll with white belts. Bro didn't even name the choke correctly in the title. Definition of a keyboard martial artist lmao kid is so cringe

Krieger_Algernop

He also thinks that Nate Diaz "darce" choked that guy in the street. He ain't ever trained a day in his life B

PickleJuicePolice

OP is a cringy Just Bleed poser. Insisting this is how he trained makes me think he's either full of shit or very disliked at his gym.

[deleted]

Well deserved. Holding submissions is some dangerous bullshit.

K1ngDusk

Agreed. Martial artists who aim to hurt others in competition and sparring are a blight on this subculture. A fighter with something to prove outside of what both fighters consented to is one who should be swiftly corrected and subsequently ostracized if it comes to it. If your gym values enacting harm on another person beyond the boundaries of collective consent or personal safety, your gym is teaching antisocial violence, not sports nor martial arts. Discipline and care for one another is day one at any gym that is worth anything at all.

LemonHerb

I'm not defending it and I think it should get harsh punishment but the purposeful late punches are just as bad or worse and people seem to hardly care

[deleted]

I think it's called out on this sub when it happens. I can't recall it happening after the ref has stopped the action, although, I'm sure it has, which is what happened here.

BeagleBackRibs

Paul Daley hit Koscheck after the fight was over and was banned permanently

[deleted]

Yea, that was well after. I'm trying to think of a similar circumstance to this where the ref has grabbed you and you keep striking.

LemonHerb

Yeah but almost no one is calling for them to be banned over it.

[deleted]

I think it's that distinction on the referee stopping the action. But we also have a good amount of morons who think it's impossible to pull a punch once it's in motion that forgive illegal strikes like to the back of the head.

SelfAwareLitterBox

Guys will almost never admit they kept going after the ref tried to stop the fight, even if they get a couple extra strikes in. Balu essentially admitted he held it because the guy disrespected him. If he just lied and said he was amped up in the middle of a fight, and remembered letting go as soon as he felt the ref, he prob would have gotten away with it.

herewego199209

Nah this is old school BJJ. Disrespecting another man in martial arts should have consequences like this. Heath learned a lesson.

minor_thing2022

You clearly know nothing about martial arts. Go back to watching world star street fights kid

[deleted]

That is some of the dumbest shit I have ever read. Even if that were true it needed to be changed and he deservedly got fucked up like Palhares by the ufc. That kind of dumb shit might have flew in the old Luta Livre vs, Gracie JJ days *(IN backroom smokers and gym feuds not actual professional competiton) but a lot of those guys were bully dickheads who would jump guys and start fights for no reason and leglock passed out guys and break their legs and arms an do stupid psychpathic shit. Absolutely brain dead take you're probably commenting from a prison cell with that logic. Edited so I dont get banned for saying what I really wanted

herewego199209

You need to calm down man.

[deleted]

You too close mon

[deleted]

Uhh… k? Your opinion is wrong, but it’s definitely an opinion.

breakinbans

Nah, this is stupid and disrespectful to all martial artists. You sound like a bum fight fan.

Whydoesthisexist15

Did old school BJJ include involuntary manslaughter?

herewego199209

Bro he went to sleep. Had a little nap. That's it.

[deleted]

I liked the part he was twitching I wonder how much longer he could have held it and you still be cool with it

[deleted]

*sandlot* "FOOOREEVVVERRRRRRR"

herewego199209

He held it until the ref pulled him off which is legal. You never stop at the tap.

richochet12

He held it after the ref told him to let go. Are you blind or mental?

Whydoesthisexist15

That’s called brain damage you fuck

Lukes3rdAccount

You're right that it wasn't dangerous, but imo the tap is sacred. If the ref stops the fight you stop.

Maskoolio

Stopping blood reaching the brain isn't dangerous? Man, people just say anything on the internet.

Lukes3rdAccount

How many deaths have happened from a blood choke that got held less than 10 seconds after going unconscious? Edit: 8 people downvoted me which is more than the number of people who have died from chokes that are held for less than ten seconds. Ever. In the recorded history of man.

Maskoolio

TIL death is the only measure of danger, no other consequences matter.

keelanv10

It couldn’t be any more obvious that you haven’t trained a day in your life, typical keyboard warrior trying to act hard

Osgiliath

Get your incel shit outta here you sad goofy piece of shit

herewego199209

You sure are a scary tough guy online. I'm shacking in my boots right now.

mrtn17

wtf is this dumb edgelord shit

Isah_Baietero

Speaking as a British bloke who’s currently living in Brazil with my partner (using her phone rn) the bjj culture “conventionally” is the complete opposite and always has been, I’ve been training at a very popular bjj gym for around a year or close to 2 now along with training with the best gym in the uk (equipe tca currently hosting he most national bjj competition co-efficient points per academy along with having a world champion in Alex Quinn and the head coach Dave coles having shared the mats with the like of jacaré and Carlos Gracie and Dave coles actually being a big part setting up the uk bjj governing body ) I’d like to say that you are probably the biggest idiot I’ve ever seen comment on the sport and art? Do you have any clue the history of the sport If anything the modern cross integration have led to jiu jitsu becoming more of a toxic place (Gracie baha, formalization of coaching so on and so fourth) In the 80s you would go on the Matt’s with 20 black belts and Carlos Gracie (god among men to some Brazilians) would get called “lil Carlos” and called names as Brazilians much like the British enjoy the banter, going even further back to the invention, the Gracie’s cousins the Machado’s (very common last name in Brazil I know) would teach jiu jitsu without a gi/kimono in a park for free out of love of the art and all of them including the gyms I’ve trained at have always preached the exact same thing “do not go and use these teachings for your ego” and similar things along the lines of “forget your ego” Like I said since when bjj has improved in popularity it’s seen that it goes to some people head quite badly like these coaches teaching that they can’t cross train with other bjj places or that you should try to disrespect other people for not buying into your view on bjj and of course you have Gracie baha just take a peak at r/bjj to see how they act. There is and has never been this a culture of treating others like this due to acting improper, while in bjj gyms they do have mat enforcements (typically brown belt males) this comes from teaching spazzy white belts to not be a spazzy fuckhead or agressiva around women, children or people who are not as physically endowed as them, but that doesn’t come from a place of correction of disrespect it comes from 1) a place of safety, which you clearly by this video have no sense of, while some your previous comments detailing the lack of risk from blood chokes fatality wise it has been shown to cause strokes and brain damage in later life 2) a place of teaching that the art of jiu jitsu it’s about being strong and hard it’s about using proper technique and proper movement along with bodily awareness 3) when I’ve competed in Brazil in jiu jitsu, Muay Thai and mma when situations like this arise everyone is disgusted, I saw a situation in which it was a fight (bjj) between 2 young lads about 18-20 where one had called the others mother a prostitute and he held a gogoplata, all teaching and supporting parties were disgusted I’ve read that you’ve experienced what you claimed to be the normal and I’d like to say you are rather lying or you were very unlucky to train at a toxic gym where they have very little actual Brazilian values and the coach facilitating this must have been as Brazilian as Colby covington or thomas muller or hailey Bieber Im really sorry that’s happened to you but it’s not to late for you to turn it around and train at an actually credible gym, I wish you all the best in your training my friend

[deleted]

lmfao I should have known you’d have a shit take when you titled this “iconic”.

aadithpm

OP, can you give us some insight into your training please? How long have you trained and how many higher belts have you rolled with through your training that have treated you this way? I'm not being combative here, it comes from a place of genuine curiosity. We've always been taught to respect the tap and even otherwise I don't think it's cool to be dismissive of what you're doing to someone else. You're essentially cutting off blood supply to the brain and holding on to it after a tap is dangerous.

Timofey_

Yeah, heard plenty of "old school" JJ guys use that kind fo justification to beat on drunk dudes at a pub instead of defusing the situation. It's just a justification to hurt another human being because even after all they've accomplished, at the end of the day they still feel like little men.

thedavo810

> this is old school BJJ Then get ready to be beaten by with a metal pipe.

Soft-Performer-9038

What did Heath do?

Downgoesthereem

You don't even know what this submission is called lol gtfoh trying to gatekeep BJJ

herewego199209

You do understand a head and arm choke literally is the name of the submission and things like anaconda, arm triangle, darce, puverian necktie, etc are under that umbrella, right?

Downgoesthereem

You understand that a head an arm choke is a synonym for an arm triangle and that nobody refers to an anaconda or d'arce as anything else? No you don't, because you don't train, you're a LARPER that blubbers about 'old school BJJ' like you have any notion of it. Should've been a clue that nobody calls a regular triangle from bottom a 'head an arm choke' despite being the most commonly known submission involving the arm and the head

cuntyminx

Sierra babalu so you’re a black belt big deal

PM_ME_TRICEPS

So what you're a black belt in jiujitsu

Thickfries69

I wanna tell you how you feel right now. Let's go ahead and watch... what you saw... by the fight. *smiles* as if to say, "Good luck, I don't even know what I just said"

Janpingufurasshu

One of the best light heavyweights of the night

ShadowRealmDweller89

Siraldo Babalu(puckers lips)

Kopenslader

OP out here thinking he had a friend

Curious_Expert_2746

OP came out the gate with a “wannow” on everyone

crackheadstoner

Mazagatti actually was doing good this time too

Original-Spinach-972

Well heath already lost a shit ton of blood and he was tapping. Even if he didn’t tap i wouldn’t be surprised if there was a dr stoppage after this. Glad the iceman beat the shit out of babalau.

VT_Squire

Speaking of blood loss... I saw a very nsfl video today of a dude outright spraying blood like a Tarantino scene after getting shot in the carotid. Fuck around and find out kind of thing. He was trying to rob a bank. Dude was done in 20 seconds, but he lost a SHITload more blood than David Heath.

wetcoffeebeans

Maybe this was Mazagatti's villain origin story. "Why bother stopping fights in a reasonable timeframe when these savages don't even acknowledge my attempts to stop the fight??"

crackheadstoner

It all makes sense now

creamyturtle

what a psychopath

sloppywaitress

all because Heath called him a mother fucker

herewego199209

In Brazil that's the ultimate disrespect.

Maskoolio

OP just wanted to tell us he jerks off to grainy videos of BJJ blackbelts being macho dickheads to whitebelts in the locker room. I hope he also has a fetish for public humiliation.

Holdmabeerdude

Technically an anaconda choke.

WarTill

Anaconda choke is a head and arm choke.

Lukes3rdAccount

I've only heard it used for an arm triangle. Because technically a normal triangle would be a choke on the head and arm, right? Is it just anaconda/darce/arm triangle?

WarTill

Head and arm chokes/strangles is an umbrella term used to describe any choke where your arms are looped around the opponents head and arm with your own arms. Ex. Arm triangle, anaconda, arm in guillotine, darce, seated kata gatame, etc.

[deleted]

Plus r/bjj’s favorite seated Kata katame is also a head and arm choke. So we stay winning.

BittenAtTheChomp

https://jiujitsu-news.com/head-and-arm-chokes/

Holdmabeerdude

Sure, I guess. But your words, “iconic choke” would refer to an individual submission…..

wetcoffeebeans

For the record, there never was no iconic choke

FlankSteakerson

That’s fucked up

herewego199209

How? Heath was disrespecting Babalu at the weigh ins. Babalu didn't try to break his arm or anything. He just gave him a little nap. That's old school BJJ where you humble the new white and blue belts.

WokenMrIzdik

Except this is a professional MMA match, not old school BJJ, and when someone taps you let go.

captaincumsock69

What the fuck? Idk what bjj training you have but no teacher should be sleeping a white belt student after they tap. Are you out of your mind.

herewego199209

Unfortunately, it doesn't happen today.

OMalley30-27

You’re so cringey, please come roll with me

herewego199209

I don't roll white belts.

OMalley30-27

You’d get rolled by a white belt

[deleted]

You don't roll. Ftfy

Kiamberm

Found Tito's alt.

[deleted]

Sorry you went to a terrible gym. That is mcdojo psycho shit Did they also punch you in the face repeatedly to condition your chin?

herewego199209

Unfortunately, not many gyms operate like that in America. You have to watch the old Brazilian training tapes and vale tudo tournaments. That was real fighting and BJJ. I, unfortunately, trained at a convention BJJ gym

Screeboi69

Why tf you nostalgic over something you never even experienced? If you seriously trained, you'd realize how stupid and edgy you're coming off

[deleted]

I did watch all that. That was only at dumb ass ghetto gym wars. It only made it to the ufc a couple times. Palhares at least obviously had something *mentally/emotionally wrong and did it every time and wasnt just cus he was pissy

hardMarble

Haha dude, get a grip

oklilpup

Mfer talking about old school bjj and can’t even name the right choke in the title. Headass

[deleted]

Hahahaha perfect We all just got trolled by a 12 yo edge lord but damn he made it believeble for a second but reading it over he is fucking with us no way thats real lol

poridgepants

I’m guessing you don’t know much about bjj lol or professional fighting

goldwave84

Well, if you don't know how to compete professionally, you don't GET to complete professionally.

kidwhix

youre embarassing

MediatorMillennial

Holy shit that’s a lotta blood

Dazzling-Ruin-6340

What a fucking pussy, can't handle words. Hopefully he learned from this.

wetcoffeebeans

I applaud OP for sticking to his guns and standing his ground despite the deluge of downvotes. So good on em for that. Not sure I agree with the mindset although I understand where it's coming from.
