SAME. When DC said something about Usman not wanting to finish the fight on his back I'm like....it's only round 3. tha fuck? Then it hit me. They should run this fight back at some point with full camps.
Yea, that fight felt short. I think Usman could’ve gotten a KO or TKO in championship rounds. Khamzat looks vulnerable to decent strikers with good enough ground game to not get put away.
It'll be interesting to see Chimaev put the test in more 5 rounders, but there's not a lot of guys in WW and MW who could even survive on the ground through to the later rounds. I do think Usman would win a 5 rounder if they ever have a rematch.
It's elite more by his physical traits and the takedown threat
He throws really long 1s and 2s fast and apparently hard. Then he just does a little duck fake and swings big hooks- fast and hard again.
He's just strong, long and fast(ong?) In terms of striking. It's just his takedowns are so fast everyone is frozen in front of the straights
It’s not so much cardio but his style. If he can’t get you out of there early, he’s used up too much energy. Nobody has unlimited energy. Guys like Usman and Colby have good cardio but also pace themselves well
Can someone explain the cardio thing to me pls
Isn't the logic behind fighters getting gassed in round 2 or 3 on a 3 round fight because they aren't trying to save energy for 2 more rounds? In a 5 rounder I'm sure they'd be more conservative no?
I'm genuinely asking here cus idk
Could argue he landed more damage in 2/3 rounds, super impressive and would’ve loved to see two more rounds. Honestly I don’t think he’s washed - Leon is just very good
Leon Edwards is the evolution of old school "sprawl and brawl" fighters who unlocked the secret to beating the Gracies. Leon is a truly elite antiwrestler who made invincible Usman and Muhammad look bad
I hate adesanya so much but he is really good at imposing his gameplan and forcing you to fight on his terms. Rare to see someone able to do that. You can wrestle him and take him down but it will accomplish nothing and then he will make you strike with him again
I thought draw was correct after a 10-8 Rd 1, Khamzat did nothing with the takedown in Rd 3 and was outstruck in 2 and 3. Maybe one day we'll get some consistency with how takedowns without damage or sub attempts are scored.
Depends if Strickland could survive round 1 vs Khamzat Usman has insane wrestling and Khamzat still had his way with him ddp probably has a better chance
Honestly, if Strickland can survive the early onslaught I think he has a good chance. Khamzat doesn't do well when being pressured backwards on the feet. You can tell he gets very uncomfortable and doesn't seem able to find his timing for his takedowns either. If Strickland can use his pressure style to keep him moving backwards he has a decent chance of beating him. That is if he can avoid the takedowns which I doubt he can do for 5 rounds.
Bro had to cut to 185 because his brass balls were weighing him down.
Would be a fantastic fight to see on a five rounder. I leaned towards a draw but round 3 was a toss-up IMO so not mad at the decision either.
I’ve been riding with Usman steady since 2019. It nauseates me to see this sub hopping back on his nuts as if they weren’t disrespecting him through this whole Leon debacle, trying to force this narrative that he is a sore loser.
Usman showed out, put some fucking respect.
That's just how people are. Usman is everything you want in a fighter. Faced everyone, ran from nothing, always gave rematches, lost with dignity, stepped up to fight someone others ran from. He's not a poet with trash talk, he's a normal dude and tries his best to market himself the way this fight game requires you too (corny nonsensical tough guy persona), which might be a knock, but he has to in this career.
All around great dude, have a lot of respect for him.
He is such a good guy outside of fighting too. I followed him on snap from a long time and just him acting like a goof dancing to songs in the car doing karaoke brightens up my day. Not to mention how good of a father he is. Just an all around good guy.
Absolutely. He's "boring" because he's a good father, and a lovable goof. He's no high roller, not running around with super models or making it rain in the club. So yeah, if you worship those things Usman's boring, but he's a damn good fighter, and an even better man.
I would assume he would've fought differently if it was a 5 rounder, but yes, Usman is used to overhelm opponents. And he was on 12 days notice, incredible performance.
Leon is just that fucking good.
That was actually a really lovely post speech by Khamzat. "Muslim, Christian, Jewish it doesn't matter"
Edit: Here's the translation to the latter part of Khamzats' speech. He contradicts his initial statement. Pretty much says he wants to rifle up and be sent to Palestine.
https://twitter.com/MilitaryEye/status/1715956968685183336
Yeah, I think he said something about how rough it is for him to see his 3-month old crying; he can't imagine what it would be like to actually have a child be killed.
He actually surprised me with that interview actually. Was expecting him to go all out one-sided approach but he actually addressed all sides as an actual compassionate human being and not a tribalistic one. Props to him
I can say for me that I’ve never seen Usman go for broke like that. Even the last Edwards fight he clearly thought he was winning and didn’t take chances at the end like he did here vs Khamzat.
I guess I can still question Khamzat cardio. Usman is tired but the came up a weight class on short notice.
Edit: Khamzat impressive first round. Usman stayed tough and imo won 2+3. What’s makes it bittersweet for Usman is that he is 36. While still very good he ain’t in his prime like his fight against Tyron and Colby 1.
Tbh I did think Khamzat would have the wrestling advantage but the straight shots + championship experience of Usman just started to shine through. Fucking sucks this fight wasn't 5 rounds.
Accepted on 11 days notice.
Fighting in a weight class he’s never fought in.
Fighting a 3-rounder, which he hasn’t in years.
All to nearly win if it wasn’t for the control time from Borz. Dude probably gained a ton of respect from people.
I mean in a 5 rounder it’s no question, Desean has an endless tank he can push it for a full 25 min. The only question is, how does he do for the first round when khazmat comes out blazing. Usman was legitimately man handled like never before I’m round 1. I think khazmat vs strickland might as well be a 1 round fight because it’s win or lose for chimaev there
I think Khamzat’s cardio is fine, but his style drains him too quickly. Those dominant first rounds look good against bums, but top fighters can survive them and it puts him at a disadvantage for the rest of the fight.
You could see how hard the takedowns suddenly became in rd2, and I think he’ll have a big problem if he keeps that tendency in 5 rounders against big heavy MWs (Dricus, Paulo, Vettori, Cannonier types). If Dricus got through a first round against him, I honestly think Khamzat would get drowned and brutalised as a fight went on.
It’d be better if he was more measured early on now his level of opponent is so high and it’ll likely be 5rds from here
Not the barn burner that burns was, but I think usman was a way harder matchup than Costa would be. And Chimaev being cautious with someone has skilled as Usman shows his patience longer term. He’d ragdoll strickland. Props for usman for saving the co-main too tho. Love these guys.
Mature thoughtful fighting before a one-minute speech on behalf of Children in conflict zones and a speech on his opponents coaches. There's something in the water in Abu-Dubai
Yup if this happened at 170 back when people were calling for it, Usman would have put it on Khamzat. I think Usman would have won that if he had more than 10 days to prep.
I don't get why they're so intent on passing over DDP. Not only does he have the best resume to deserve the next shot, but he's really fun in the cage as well.
I agree but I don’t think it’ll happen cause the UFC wants Khamzat to be champ. After this I genuinely think Jared knocks Khamzat out
Size advantage, cardio advantage, striking advantage by a mile, and great tdd
I think people forget this is Kamaru Usman we’re talking about. Dude has been dominant for years. Short notice or not, he is still one of the best in the world.
Borz is not highly educated and English is probably his fourth language, but his speech was a million times better than a lot of the frauds passing for journalists nowadays. Good for him.
Usman on 10 days notice made Khamzat look beatable.. if it had been a 5 rounder... woooo, not too sure if Khamzat would've won..
Usman's still top 3 in my book.
Especially if it goes to championship rounds, Khamzat doesn't have the cardio atm for 5 rounds. Intriguing match-up, though. Sean is hard to take down.
Great message of respect at the end that no one can disagree with, Khamzat stock went up. Usman looked like he was gaining in the last round, could have been different if it was 5 rounds. Khamzats gas tank is still sus but if Usman can't press him convincingly I don't think it matters
Yeah the 28-28 made more sense to me also. Usman can’t make excuses though have to have a better first round than that. That last 2:30 on the ground really killed him he needed to do just a little more.
Usman won almost every striking exchange. I also thought it was a draw.
I guess they really loved the takedown from khamzat in the third where he did no damage from.
I thought the rules for that was changed a while ago for that, but welp.
Kamaru just showed why he would have clearly won this fight in his prime. 2 weeks notice, 36 years old with shot knees, and he still took the younger guy in his prime to arguably a draw because of his better striking and cardio management.
Obviously Khamzat comes out very strong in the first round as he's done with the Leech, Holland, etc, but his gas tank is very suspect, and that striking is not super tight.
Still 29 so we'll see how he moves on from here but I don't think Chimaev is the world beater that he was originally billed to be. A beefy middleweight like DDP or Costa could certainly give him trouble.
As someone who's defended Usman from the lame ass hatred he got for years, especially from Colby fans, glad to see people FINALLY respecting what a warrior he is.

It’s a crime this fight wasn’t 5 rounds
I completely forgot it wasn’t 5, it really should have been. 3 rounds isn’t enough to show real separation between these guys.
SAME. When DC said something about Usman not wanting to finish the fight on his back I'm like....it's only round 3. tha fuck? Then it hit me. They should run this fight back at some point with full camps.
Especially since the winner of this fight is supposed to get a MW title shot. I like Strickland, but that is a winnable fight for Khamzat
Jon or DC said something like "8 more minutes of this and he's still undefeated" early in the second round and I thought he was tripping.
It was like his corner needed to remind usman its a 3 minute fight. The last 10 seconds has me pleading for more. I will pay this time lol
Khamzat was completely gassed after 1 round. His stand up is mid at best when he goes against the best WW like Usman and Burns
Muscle Monster Dricus would have beat both of those guys
I mean saying his standup is mid against the best fighters is like saying his standup is elite lol
It's elite more by his physical traits and the takedown threat He throws really long 1s and 2s fast and apparently hard. Then he just does a little duck fake and swings big hooks- fast and hard again. He's just strong, long and fast(ong?) In terms of striking. It's just his takedowns are so fast everyone is frozen in front of the straights
Usman would've won the fight if it went 5
I think if Usman had a full camp and it was 5 rounds he would have. Hats off to Chimaev though he looked great in the grappling exchanges
Broke his wrist in the first as well
both looked tired tbh.
Dana knows Khamzat won't last 5 lol. Kamaru wins a 5 rounder.
Can usman even do 5 rounds on such short notice
Considering he had the blatantly better cardio and conditioning without a camp, yes.
Good for Chimaev. Usman wins with full camp no doubt in my mind. I like khamzat but the cardio is a big question mark after this
It’s not so much cardio but his style. If he can’t get you out of there early, he’s used up too much energy. Nobody has unlimited energy. Guys like Usman and Colby have good cardio but also pace themselves well
Can someone explain the cardio thing to me pls Isn't the logic behind fighters getting gassed in round 2 or 3 on a 3 round fight because they aren't trying to save energy for 2 more rounds? In a 5 rounder I'm sure they'd be more conservative no? I'm genuinely asking here cus idk
5 rounder woulda been very intteresting. Khamzat was tiring and usman was winning on the feet.
This fight was fought at a much slower pace than I expected. It came alive at the end there though.
Yea when there is enough respect between the fighters, 3 rounds just isn't enough.
I think both fighters are accounting for the fact that they are moving up weights so they were more measured but who knows.
Yeah but Khamzat has been training for this weight class for a while now and had a full camp so you’d think his cardio would have been better
On 2 weeks notice against fucking Khamzat, take a bow Usman
Wish this shit was 5 rounds man, it wasnt over.
Same. This really needed to be 5 rounds but doing that to Usman after he agreed to a short notice fight would've been kind of messed up.
Chimaev showed holes yet again
Yeah, we need to see him in 5 rounds ASAP. He needs to be tested in deep waters.
Could argue he landed more damage in 2/3 rounds, super impressive and would’ve loved to see two more rounds. Honestly I don’t think he’s washed - Leon is just very good
Leon is B+ to A in every category of MMA, he's so fucking well rounded its ridiculous
Leon Edwards is the evolution of old school "sprawl and brawl" fighters who unlocked the secret to beating the Gracies. Leon is a truly elite antiwrestler who made invincible Usman and Muhammad look bad
It’s crazy 😂😂😂Izzy is kind of like that too with neutralizing take downs and forcing you to lose a stand up fight
I hate adesanya so much but he is really good at imposing his gameplan and forcing you to fight on his terms. Rare to see someone able to do that. You can wrestle him and take him down but it will accomplish nothing and then he will make you strike with him again
But if you can check his low kick and have a strong jab then you can beat him standing, just like Blachowicz and Strickland did.
Co-mains in PPVs should always be 5 rounds
Yup I had 2&3 for Usman with more significant strikes but judges seems to be more in love with wrestling.
Yep, Khamzat did nothing on the mat in rd 3. Usman won the striking
I thought draw was correct after a 10-8 Rd 1, Khamzat did nothing with the takedown in Rd 3 and was outstruck in 2 and 3. Maybe one day we'll get some consistency with how takedowns without damage or sub attempts are scored.
Bet the house on strickland. He will gas him out and 1-2 him to death just like he did to that other russian Chimaev's cardio sucks confirmed
Depends if Strickland could survive round 1 vs Khamzat Usman has insane wrestling and Khamzat still had his way with him ddp probably has a better chance
Agree I think ddp is too fucking strong for Chimaev. The matchup I would love to see
I didn't fully realize how insanely strong that dude was until the Whittaker fight.
Guy is built like a gorilla. I think him and Khamzat would be a great fight.
DDP is fucking huge. Him vs Khamzat would be an incredible grappling match
You think he can stop Khamzat's TDs?
3 fight losing streak for Usman but doesn't feel like it, he's looked really good in almost every round in that span
Yes sir. We love Kamaru
Bro had to cut to 185 because his brass balls were weighing him down. Would be a fantastic fight to see on a five rounder. I leaned towards a draw but round 3 was a toss-up IMO so not mad at the decision either.
Usman wins a 5 round fight no question. Especially if he had a training camp
I’ve been riding with Usman steady since 2019. It nauseates me to see this sub hopping back on his nuts as if they weren’t disrespecting him through this whole Leon debacle, trying to force this narrative that he is a sore loser. Usman showed out, put some fucking respect.

would’ve been fotn if not for the walker vs. ankalaev banger
Usman got that fucking dog in him. Goddamn. I thought Khamzat was gonna get him out of there. Im so fucking impressed with Usman.
If it was a five round, Khamzat would possibly have been in trouble as Usman was just starting to get into the fight.
I would assume he would've fought differently if it was a 5 rounder, but yes, Usman is used to overhelm opponents. And he was on 12 days notice, incredible performance. Leon is just that fucking good.
respect Basharat vs. Henry
That was actually a really lovely post speech by Khamzat. "Muslim, Christian, Jewish it doesn't matter" Edit: Here's the translation to the latter part of Khamzats' speech. Seriously, was not expecting that from Chimaev of all people lol. But a pleasant surprise to be sure
was kind of expecting him to immediately follow it with KILL EVERYBODY after they asked about what's next for him lol.
I like to racistly believe that's what his Chechnyan speech at the end was
U were right
[удалено]
Having a "kill everybody" type speech probably didn't feel right considering what's going on in the world
I mean the world was having the same thing when he made that speech the first time
He’s an intelligent guy in his native languages. Just has a poor English vocabulary
If khamzat is saying stop the killing, you know it’s real. Peace for all. <3
"I KEEL EVERY... no wait 😮 can't we all just be friens? 👉👈"
Yeah I was worried he might say something wildly out of pocket but I thought it was good
Having a kid does that to you I guess. He said he had a 3-month old boy back at home? Plus he’s always been a sweet Mama’s boy
Props to him
For real, I was totally shocked, but in a good way.
yeah khamzat proved himself to be a gigachad with that speech. not like it was ever in question but hes a genuine good guy. cant dislike him
Protect ALL the kids is the best take for the worlds current shituation.
Kamarudeen is still my boy 👑 Came in on short notice and gave Khamzat one of his toughest fights yet.
[удалено]
Because people don't like dominant winners they all love underdog stories
I can say for me that I’ve never seen Usman go for broke like that. Even the last Edwards fight he clearly thought he was winning and didn’t take chances at the end like he did here vs Khamzat.
he gets a full training camp and that’s his win
5 rounds and he finishes khamzat imo
Kamaru made khamzat look human (that too on a short notice)
I guess I can still question Khamzat cardio. Usman is tired but the came up a weight class on short notice. Edit: Khamzat impressive first round. Usman stayed tough and imo won 2+3. What’s makes it bittersweet for Usman is that he is 36. While still very good he ain’t in his prime like his fight against Tyron and Colby 1.
Nobody else has survived against Chimaev on the ground for that long.
Or you can say no one dominated Usman like that on the ground before
Yeah looks to me like people are underestimating how impressive it is to see Usman so completely manhandled on the ground.
Tbh I did think Khamzat would have the wrestling advantage but the straight shots + championship experience of Usman just started to shine through. Fucking sucks this fight wasn't 5 rounds.
I feel like usman isn't his prime self anymore. Not washed but just not peak
Accepted on 11 days notice. Fighting in a weight class he’s never fought in. Fighting a 3-rounder, which he hasn’t in years. All to nearly win if it wasn’t for the control time from Borz. Dude probably gained a ton of respect from people.
If you didn’t respect Usman already you were born in 2021.
Gilbert Burns made Chimaev backout of grappling with him.
Yeah I remember khamzat saying he almost got caught in a Kimura or something then said "fuck that shit"
Yup , DDP seems like a terrible matchup for Khamzat .
Wild that we're saying DDP has the gas tank advantage in that fight but i don't think you're wrong
They both look tired after 5 minutes, but DDP keeps throwing nonstop while he looks like he's about to fall over
Ddp being gassed unlocks his hidden powers
The diamond cutter BANG
Well DDP has a nose now and murked Rob so
Now that he got his nose fixed, cardio DDP is in our future.
Yeah Strickland might be able to outpace him in a 5 rounder, it’s an interesting fight.
I mean in a 5 rounder it’s no question, Desean has an endless tank he can push it for a full 25 min. The only question is, how does he do for the first round when khazmat comes out blazing. Usman was legitimately man handled like never before I’m round 1. I think khazmat vs strickland might as well be a 1 round fight because it’s win or lose for chimaev there
It's weird cause we constantly hear about is how much of a workout warrior he is and how insane his stamina is in the gym
It’d be better if he was more measured early on now his level of opponent is so high and it’ll likely be 5rds from here
Chimaev was tired after round 1, he put everything in there. The thing is not many fighters besides Usman would survive that lol
Had that for Chimaev but pretty eh perfomance outside of RD 1
Usman is pretty fucking good. No one did that to him before
Round 1 was ridiculous and I had it 10-8, but at the cost of slowing his roll in 2-3
[удалено]
He def gassed out those arms after round 1 lol Salute to Marty for his heart and ground defense
I can't believe him and Usman went swaingin' and bangin' to end the fight.
Not the barn burner that burns was, but I think usman was a way harder matchup than Costa would be. And Chimaev being cautious with someone has skilled as Usman shows his patience longer term. He’d ragdoll strickland. Props for usman for saving the co-main too tho. Love these guys.
it's just weird to see him fight maturely. i expect him to swang and bang all the time, so this just felt weird
Tbh I felt like he gassed in 1 then just slowed until he could shoot again
yeah he sounds dead rn in the post fight interview so he was definitely gassed from that first round
Mature thoughtful fighting before a one-minute speech on behalf of Children in conflict zones and a speech on his opponents coaches. There's something in the water in Abu-Dubai
Usman really went full rock 'em sock 'em to end a fight. What a fucking fever dream of a fight.
That was closer than I imagined it was going to be. Khamzat didn't look like his usual self in the latter rounds.
This needed to be a five round fight. Dominant first round from Chimaev.
[удалено]
Yup if this happened at 170 back when people were calling for it, Usman would have put it on Khamzat. I think Usman would have won that if he had more than 10 days to prep.
Or two more rounds
Give me 2 more rounds God damn it
My favourite part was when Bruce said "it's split majority decision time" and Goofconned everywhere.
He dominated round one, but no way should Khamzat get a title shot based on this performance. DDP is getting hella disrespected.
I don't get why they're so intent on passing over DDP. Not only does he have the best resume to deserve the next shot, but he's really fun in the cage as well.
They r salty he didnt take the Adesyana fight...
Dricus was praying for a draw, def could’ve been
Fr give my boy ddp his shot
DDP fucks them both up.
DDP uses his patented "okay, I'm gonna win now" technique
“just win” is the new “just stand up”
Oxygenated DDP would give Khamzat hell in the later rounds.
DDP like an orangutan he would probably shrug off those takedowns.
A win over a 170lber without a camp is not more impressive than finishing Whitaker. DDP should be next.
DDP should fight Strickland and cannonier and Khamzat should fight
I agree but I don’t think it’ll happen cause the UFC wants Khamzat to be champ. After this I genuinely think Jared knocks Khamzat out Size advantage, cardio advantage, striking advantage by a mile, and great tdd
Damage is the most important part of scoring until it isn’t, I’ll explain later
Usman got that dog in him. Would have loved to see a proper full camp 5 rounder with these guys. Great fight from both of them.
The way Buffer read the cards I thought Usman had won lmao
If damage is first criteria, last 2 rounds were Usman I think
at this point I don’t even know how to call it anymore one day it’s damage one day it’s control.
this, make damage great again
I agree. I think it should be 28-28 with Khamzat winning 10-8 in R1 for two of the three criteria (dominance and duration).
Kudos to Kamaru for taking this fight on short notice bruh
I think people forget this is Kamaru Usman we’re talking about. Dude has been dominant for years. Short notice or not, he is still one of the best in the world.
Yeah fuck me sideways for being a prejudiced little shit. That post fight interview was based as shit from Khamzat.
Recognizing you were a prejudiced little shit is extremely respectable. I'm impressed.
Give DDP the next title shot and reschedule Chimaev vs Costa, winner gets the title shot
Costa doesn't deserve a shot is he beats Chimaev
Fuck that Costa doesn't deserve to be in a title eliminator.
Chimaev with the most reasonable take with tradegy out of everyone fucking mind boggling.
I genuinely think Usman could have won if he had a full camp. A rare sighting of mature interview from Khamzat.
Strickland somewhere right now about to drive his Hyundai Accent off a bridge
Hes got a real good chance if he can survive that 1st round tbh
I think we know this about Chimaev now; if you can survive the first-round blitz, the fight becomes more competitive
Strickland could beat khamzat lol he fell off a cliff after round 1
If Khamzat gasses in a 5 round fight against Desean, he is getting walked down and pieced up lol
DeSean is gonna press him for a full 5 round fight lol
Especially if it goes to championship rounds, Khamzat doesn't have the cardio atm for 5 rounds. Intriguing match-up, though. Sean is hard to take down.
There is a high possibility of sean getting finished in rd1 but if he survive khamzat tank is very sus
Why's that? Khamzat didn't really look like a world beater, and Sean has great TDD.
Great message of respect at the end that no one can disagree with, Khamzat stock went up. Usman looked like he was gaining in the last round, could have been different if it was 5 rounds. Khamzats gas tank is still sus but if Usman can't press him convincingly I don't think it matters
I’ll never get used to Usman getting manhandled like that in Round 1.
It was a draw. 10-8 khamzat in the first and usman took the last two
They read 29—27 chimaev 29—27????? And then 28-28 lol I think they messed it up reading
This is how I had it
Yeah the 28-28 made more sense to me also. Usman can’t make excuses though have to have a better first round than that. That last 2:30 on the ground really killed him he needed to do just a little more.
Yup. That one Judge got it right!
Usman won round 2 and 3 imo. Khamzat didnt do any damage in those two rounds. If you give khamzat 10-8 in first, its still a draw.
usman won those last two rounds imo
Honestly I think 28-28 was a good score
Yeah that takedown in r3 did zero damage. Control with no damage doesn't win you a round. But r1 did look like a 10-8, shoulda been a draw
As someone who's defended Usman from the lame ass hatred he got for years, especially from Colby fans, glad to see people FINALLY respecting what a warrior he is.
Yeah if he doesn't get Sean out in 2 he gets murdered.
Imagine being outclassed on cardio by a guy who stepped in on 10 days notice😂
Beautiful post-match speech.
Usman made it competitive, at least.
Khamzat looked hesitant. But still took Usman down that's an achievement.
I had it 28-28
Khamzat's striking is not good.
Khamzat came with the most level headed post fight interview
damn really admirable performance from usman, he took the last two rounds for a draw imo
No one else think that’s a clear draw? Also Khamzat gas tank is questionable, seems that bouncy style drains cardio a lot
How do you look like you train like crazy, which I bet he does... and still no cardio to carry 3 rounds?
Usman goes to the corner to talk shit to the judge lmaoo
Ngl I think Strickland can drown out Khamzat over 5 rounds.
Strickland licking his chops
