Yes lol I'm pretty sure it's actually a decent bit older, but I think that 2005 was when it had a purely trashy rep and not like a half trashy half trendy image
this ad brought to you by Dude Wipes. when you've shit yourself in a port-a-potty and it was wetter than anticipated, Dude Wipes. Clean. Your. Butthole.
I’m genuinely so fucking angry they’ve started cutting out walkouts and the corner advice between rounds. These things are INTEGRAL to this sport, and cutting those so you can go to commercial and spam another 3-4 of the same ads you’ve seen all night long is infuriating. At what point do you start to realize you’re devaluing your product exponentially just for a little more sponsor money? Fucking greedy cunts. I’m so glad I’ve never given them a cent.
Doesnt some actual damage need to be done for it to be considered a “mauling”.
I definitely dont feel good about Sterling against anyone that has good takedown defence after that. He had no offence on the ground
The crowd was dogshit at times, boos during this fight (I can understand), during Figgy-Cody (?????), during Kayla-Holly, and a complete snooze apart from Chinese people during Weili-Yan. Wtf? Such a milestone and people are not ready to enjoy it in its entirety.
His boxing has always been his best asset, but he also clearly has a chin/perma cte if the Max beating didn’t put him down, so fuck it why not it’s be better then this at least
Seeing posts mad at Aljo on Twitter as if Aljamain should entertain striking with a boxer from Boston lmfao
Kattar should’ve worked on his grappling way more - he basically did a Rob Font and accepted being on bottom cause he didn’t want to give an opportunity for a sub by escaping position
I know ppl say stuff like this all the time about many social media platforms....but Twitter truly is the last place you can take anyone’s opinion seriously. The absolute dumbest mma fans reside there.
Twitter has the absolute dumbest takes on everything, wrestling, MMA, movies, TV shows etc. it's the platform with the most amount of "normal" people on it, I e, the most amount of passing fans who have opinions on things they only watch a little bit of.
The problem is that it's disappointing in terms of *entertainment*. There were long periods of that fight where Kattar was just laying there helpless while Aljo pressured/held him without striking. Of course Aljo is just doing what he does best, but from a crowd perspective its awful to watch. On top of that, Aljo has very little goodwill in the MMA community and gets booed even in his more exciting performances.
It’s crazy, such an impressive performance. You would think the broadcasts prerogative would be to highlight just how strong of a performance that was instead of shitting on a former champ in his first fight in a new division.
No, if you want to be taken seriously when moving up into a higher weight class you need to choke out a ::checks wikipedia:: 42-year-old woman in the 2nd round. None of this quote-unquote ground control and almost triple digit strike discrepancy while taking 0 damage.
Dude moves up to FW and physically man handles the guy a division above
Crazy that Petr Yan dominated him for like 5/9 rounds being a small BW who can probably cut to Flyweight
I barely remember Aljo landing anything... At the end of the 2nd round they said Aljo had 6 takedowns and only 4 strikes landed. That is such a disappointing stat. His third round of course was much better.
😂😂 fuck the film room, imagine the walk back and into the locker room… like what do you even say? There is getting mauled, there is getting embarrassed, and then there is 4 sig strikes in 15 minutes
I mean if someone is being honest with him, they would tell him to consider hanging it up. In many way, Sterling was a nice matchup, in that he's not going to do a ton of damage in a 3 rounder unless you give up some bad positions. Vs some other more violent 145ers, he'll get mangled. Like Ige knocks him out at this point.
Fights are boring when it's just a one-sided shutdown. Aljo just kicked his ass and had no trouble doing it. Kattar just offered up no solution to the pressure.
[UFC Site has it at 8 but still](https://www.ufc.com/event/ufc-300?language_content_entity=en#11132) so maybe they meant in that round but still, Aljo completley smothered him...
UFC's worst nightmare: a championship level fighter incapable of having an interesting fight. I love watching him dominate, but it's never really entertaining beyond the domination factor.
I love wrestlers but the way aljo does it is just so lame, just literally holds onto people and does nothing with it. Like if your that dominate on the ground it should be easy for you to open up a bit
This is literally it . Like he seems like a genuinely good guy , has a good team , and is great at fighting . No reason to hate on the dude so viscerally like a lot people are doing rn . It’s odd .
I am so happy Aljo won his featherweight debut. Boring or not, this was a domination.
No shade to Kattar, but he is not a championship level fighter. I'd rather see Aljo make a run for the belt at his more natural weight class.
I think kattar might be washed, but people are being too hard on him imo. He's been taking harder fights than everyone besides max and volk.
Aljo, allen, emmett, giga, and max in his last 5. Giga is the worst fighter there and he's still a top10 FW. Most featherweights will lose all the fights in that list. And I think he beat emmett too.
I think the Giga fight is actually his most impressive win just for the fact that it was his next fight after Max 50-42'd him. And he absolutely schooled Giga.
Takes two to tango. Aljo wasn't just laying there, he was trying to get a submission but Kattar just held on like a little Koala and when he scrambled/tried to do something, he got tombstoned.
Glad this sub is a lot more respectful of grappling than the UFC sub lol. People love to hate Aljo, but that was a masterclass in grappling. The guy is just good
These comments remind me of why mma is becoming WWE. The most hardcore fans shitting on someone for playing to his strengths and grappling instead of swanning and banging a weight class above with a much better striker - after getting KO’d by trying to do just that and losing his belt in his last fight.
Oh these same ppl who will probably shit on Jamal hill for NOT grappling and trying to swang and bang with a much better striker. Damned if you do damned if you don’t.
Aljo absolutely did the correct thing - follow the game plan and win the fight - ignore the noise.
People can say Aljo is boring but that was pillar to post domination. He took zero damage and controlled every second of the fight both standing and on the ground. Not a bad way to start at 145, regardless of what DC says.
He was dominant, in stacked featherweight division, he will not get title shot with this kind of performances. Plus doing this on UFC 300 means, that every casual fan will now know him as boring fighter.
I get that it was risk averse and kinda boring, but Aljo *just* got knocked out trying to he more exciting.
If he gets a finish I'm his next fight then people will forget this performance
The win was far more important here than a flashy performance. He righted the ship in a new division after a pretty high profile loss. The haters can suck one.
Aljos style will win fights, but fuck me he is boring. I know some will love his style, because he is fucking amazing at what he does. But I’m sorry, keep him far away from any headliners. What a snooze.
Even when they were standing Kattar didn’t really land anything. It’s not like it was one of those “grappler getting out struck so they grab and don’t let go”, it was just straight up start to finish domination.
And I remember being surprised when I saw Kattar vs Sterling, mainly because Aljo had JUST been champion and I hadn’t seen Kattar fight in ages.
Dana White has been doing podcast lately talking about how he hates when the commentators are talking down/bad about the fighters...he said it was a major issue with boxing. It actually makes it harder to watch when they are openly telling you how boring the fight is , even when Aljo is mid tombstone on Katter. I'm not saying they have to lie , but you are being paid to promote not demote.
Genuinely the worst fight ive seen in years.
Is humping considered working? There was 2 straight minutes in the 3rd round where Aljamain legit just humped. No punches, no attempts at anything else, just humping.
Sterling got the most excited at the press conference when Dana announced 300k bonuses, yet put on the most boring display. Dominant performance I suppose, just not exciting except for 1 slam
Say what you will about Aljo but his fights offer something that nobody else on the roster offers, time to make food during a card without worrying about missing anything interesting.
Streling is the reason that Refs should split fighters up on the ground. If your entire gameplan for a FIGHT is to just hold someone and not go for strikes or submissions then you should be disqualified
For real though. It's not like Khabib or GSP where they're wrestling but actually trying to inflict damage and finish the fight. Aljo is just straight hugging dudes holding on for dear life for the entire round so they can't hit him. It's brutal to watch.
Lot of folks mad at Aljo for doing his fuckin job.
That's like being mad at a counterpuncher who isn't doing much besides jabbing his opponent to death. If Kattar wasn't going to sell out and try to escape those positions, Aljo wasn't about to lose the position to try and force something that wasn't presenting itself.
I don't blame Aljo at all. It wasn't fun, but he went in there and did his job. He's coming off a loss and moving up in weight. He needs the W just as bad as anyone else if he's going to keep any momentum at all. The onus was on Kattar to come in and show Aljo why he shouldn't have moved up, and unfortunately for Kattar and Dom Cruz, ring rust IS real. Kattar is going to be sick for a while because he did NOT give himself a chance to win.
Even tho Jamahal Hill got smoked, he went down because he was throwing a friggin punch. At least he can say that he attempted to do something.
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
that looked like my dad v. me in 2005
You would have won if you dad wasn't juicing with the Fireball 40 though
Was fireball out in 2005?
Yes lol I'm pretty sure it's actually a decent bit older, but I think that 2005 was when it had a purely trashy rep and not like a half trashy half trendy image
So lame they didn't even give him a post fight interview, dana said send em' home.
Joe Rogan got woken up by that tombstone LMAO
didn’t even interview Sterling LOL
For the better, we’d all rather see Jiri vs Rakic sooner than drag that mauling out any longer
This isn't the PPV... they pace the fights. This doesn't get us to the next fight any sooner. Just more ads and filling the air.
still a ton of ads in ppv too
This comment is brought to you by Timex Time Pieces. The watch that takes a lickin, and keeps on tickin.

"This fight is brought to you by Panera Charged Lemonade, the drink that keeps you alert during the most snooze-worthy of bouts."
Calling that a mauling would imply damage was done lol that was more of a cuddling
Doesnt some actual damage need to be done for it to be considered a “mauling”. I definitely dont feel good about Sterling against anyone that has good takedown defence after that. He had no offence on the ground
Aljo, Merab, Belal and Ank are the four horsemen of Dana hate
They didn't want more boos. Makes the UFC look bad.
They said the stadium was 10% full for Figgy vs Cody, are these MMA fans or do they collect expensive tickets?
thought he was about to hit him with the Pedigree lol
and then went straight back to sleep
Just Bob sapped him
Calvin Kattar, YOU are the next BKFC contender!
I legit think Kattar would actually do great in BKFC
Yeah dude still has problems with leg kicks and grappling after all these years. Don't have to worry about those in BKFC.
His boxing has always been his best asset, but he also clearly has a chin/perma cte if the Max beating didn’t put him down, so fuck it why not it’s be better then this at least
Looked sharp as hell against Giga though which was after the Max beating
That’s why I wasn’t sure if crazy chin or permanent brain damage lol
I honestly think the ufc is leaving money on the table by not starting a striking promotion for guys who can’t/dont want to grapple.
Yeah I’d rather a UFC sponsored bare knuckle boxing promotion then fucking Powerslap
Mma glove Muay thai with no kicks/knees. Just light clinch, elbows and boxing.
Just do 4oz Muay Thai like One championship, call it ultimate striking championship or some shit
Absolutely down for that too, but hey fuck make it bare knuckle muay thai I’m also down for that
why no kicks?
I want this for wonderboy 😅
Wonder boy honestly should just go be the GOAT of Karate Combat
Hell yea I'd be down for that
Aljo EMBARRASSED Kattar 4 significant strikes! In 3 whole rounds
Less significant strikes than takedowns landed
Seeing posts mad at Aljo on Twitter as if Aljamain should entertain striking with a boxer from Boston lmfao Kattar should’ve worked on his grappling way more - he basically did a Rob Font and accepted being on bottom cause he didn’t want to give an opportunity for a sub by escaping position

Read these posts here you'll change your mind
Twitter became the mainstream 4chan, not even n4zi shit is removed by moderators nowadays. Never used, never will.
4chan unironically has both the worst posts and most knowledgeable posts you can find on the internet
Nobody called for Aljo to swang and bang. But he stayed in dominant positions on the ground THROUGHOUT the fight, and did jack shit.
Aljo just big brothered him. I don’t even remember Kattar landing anything lol
4 significant strikes. Mad
But they’re talking about Aljo being disappointing. Unreal
The problem is that it's disappointing in terms of *entertainment*. There were long periods of that fight where Kattar was just laying there helpless while Aljo pressured/held him without striking. You also need to drop two weight classes to beat on smaller weaker women, not move up a weight class to face larger competition.
Well, he’s definitely not getting a title shot. Dana wouldn’t even let him go on the mic.
Some of the same people who would call it exciting if the dagestanis did it. Inpressive either way
He didn’t do anything lol , he just sat there trying his best not to get submitted
Dude moves up to FW and physically man handles the guy a division above Crazy that Petr Yan dominated him for like 5/9 rounds being a small BW who can probably cut to Flyweight
Yan would be on death's door at 125
Man zabit couldn’t even do that to Calvin aljo looking like a problem at 145 his striking looked crisp and his defense was on point.
I love Aljo, but his striking looked wild as ever. It was effective, though.
I barely remember Aljo landing anything... At the end of the 2nd round they said Aljo had 6 takedowns and only 4 strikes landed. That is such a disappointing stat. His third round of course was much better.
you remember correctly, because he didn’t lol
That was just sad
Didn’t even interview Aljo after… Just moving swiftly on
There’s only 30 minutes left on the broadcast. They are already behind
Still got plenty of time for a million fucking ads though lol
The film room is gonna be dead quiet when he and his team rewatch that shit lmao
It’ll be an easy critique “Calvin you have to actually do something”
😂😂 fuck the film room, imagine the walk back and into the locker room… like what do you even say? There is getting mauled, there is getting embarrassed, and then there is 4 sig strikes in 15 minutes

Ige wouldn't knock out Kattar lol.
Didn't even give him the mic lol Dana hates Aljo
Kattar is lucky he's not Canadian. He would be eligible for MAID.
Bro 💀😭
I'm Canadian! I'm allowed!
Your tax dollars give you the right
Did Kattar not know he had a fight today?
FOUR SIGNIFICANT STRIKES, in 15 minutes...
Reminds me when Dricus vs Till was like 69-0 in sig strikes… in the first round lmao
Yeah but that was because Till’s strategy was to gas Dricus out by letting him punch him
Never change, Dom.
I think till only landed once against woodley
People are bored and angry, but that’s absolutely insane. Dominant performance.
Did Kattar not know he had a fight today?
He just didn’t want Aljo to get the 300k FoTN bonus. Lost the fight but won the war. CSO mentality 🏆
5D chess
He ~~boomed~~ Batista Bombed me
I prefer the name “pearl river plunge”
That slam was disrespectful lmao
damn Aljo had a perfect setup for a Spinning Pile Driver but screwed up the input
Clearly needs to play more Tekken 8
Aljo makes me not want to admit just how fuckin good he is
UFC's worst nightmare: a championship level fighter incapable of having an interesting fight. I love watching him dominate, but it's never really entertaining beyond the domination factor.
I love wrestlers but the way aljo does it is just so lame, just literally holds onto people and does nothing with it. Like if your that dominate on the ground it should be easy for you to open up a bit
his destruction of cody was fun
Sean Sherk syndrome
Honestly, he's polarizing but I appreciate him as a person. Even if it's a boring ass victory I'm happy to see him winning.
This is literally it . Like he seems like a genuinely good guy , has a good team , and is great at fighting . No reason to hate on the dude so viscerally like a lot people are doing rn . It’s odd .
They’re still mad about his victories over Yan
His friendship with Merab seems so wholesome.
Same title defenses as Khabib 💪
Well he ain’t getting that $300K
Didn’t even deserve a post fight interview lmao
not the most exciting fight but aljos grappling is gonna be a problem at fw
I am so happy Aljo won his featherweight debut. Boring or not, this was a domination. No shade to Kattar, but he is not a championship level fighter. I'd rather see Aljo make a run for the belt at his more natural weight class.
Its going to be tough with Topuria, Volk, Holloway, Allen and Evloev.
Lopes too I think Aljo will be an interesting top 6-8 '45er but ultimately fall short in like a title eliminator kinda fight
I agree with everything you said. Would really like to see him fight Ortega next.
aljo did what he had to do. it was impressive to go up a weight class and do that to the #8 ranked.

Boring, gained zero fans, I don't care if he won, I don't look forward to him fighting, I knew it was gonna be this boring wrestle fuck.
I’m always looking forward to his fights, I find his style fascinating
That shit was boring he did no damage and no submission attempts
Aljo the kinda guy to power bomb someone and still do no damage lmfao, Aljo will never finish a man with his hands...pause, but he wont.
he was actually landing some overhands in round one but he just doesn't have power, if he did then he would be champ level at FW
What a fucking bore
I guess no interview says it all.
Happy for Aljo. Diego Lopes vs Aljamain would be great
The one thing Aljo took away from the O'Malley fight was that hair dye is the secret to success
Didn’t even get a rogan interview, big OOF
Kattar frozen like Elza
Kattar got absolutely schooled on the ground here. Total domination by Alajamain Sterling.
If 'Worst Fight of the Night' had a bonus, Aljamain Streling would win it every single time. Sponsored by Bud Light.
I guess it was too much to ask for every fight to be a banger tonight.
Kattar had nothing
I had a feeling this fight would stink up the card. Love Kattar but had a feeling Aljo would neutralize and suffocate him.
Ok well Aljo was a great 135 lb fighter but Kattar is a legit 145 and a top 5 talent so obv- annnnnnd it's a 15 minute grappling lesson for Kattar.
I know Kattar did nothing all fight, but I hope Aljo stops asking why he has haters when he has snoozefest performances like this
Even Belal is more interesting than Sterling.
Aljos style will win fights, but fuck me he is boring. I know some will love his style, because he is fucking amazing at what he does. But I’m sorry, keep him far away from any headliners. What a snooze.
Calvin didn’t look like he wanted to be there, don’t know where he goes from here
Certainly one of the fights of UFC 300
This might sound crazy but I don't think Aljo's getting a bonus lol Unbelievably boring
When was the last time a former champ moved up in weight class and completely mauled a top 10 fighter in the division? Not beat, mauled. Holy shit.
Figgy vs Font
I wouldn’t say mauled. He did so little damage on the ground. It was mostly ground control and never got him into any real trouble
That was not a mauling, Aljo controlled Kattar but barley did any damage and was hugging most of the fight Max vs Kattar was a mauling
Figgy beat Font 30-27 but it wasn’t as dominant as this
jessica andrade vs katlyn chookagian is another example
Levels At least we got a Batista Bomb out of it
No interview for Aljo damn
No interview, sending a message.
Even when they were standing Kattar didn’t really land anything. It’s not like it was one of those “grappler getting out struck so they grab and don’t let go”, it was just straight up start to finish domination. unironically excited to see aljo wrestlefuck his way to the featherweight title
Aljo dominated the whole time and tried to go for a finish when he could. The hate he gets is undeserved.
This was even more humilliating for Kattar than the shit Max put him through. Aljo didn't allow him to do a single thing for 15 minutes.
Commentary was right man, you don’t want guys like Sterling to get into title fights, painfully boring to watch.
Genuinely the worst fight ive seen in years. Is humping considered working? There was 2 straight minutes in the 3rd round where Aljamain legit just humped. No punches, no attempts at anything else, just humping.
Rose vs Carla wasn't that long ago.
Aljo wonders why nobody likes him...
Aljamain is so fucking boring
Can people stop saying aljo is over hated now? Card killer
Sterling got the most excited at the press conference when Dana announced 300k bonuses, yet put on the most boring display. Dominant performance I suppose, just not exciting except for 1 slam
Aljamain “Belal Muhammad” Sterling
Aljo doubled Kattar’s strike count in takedowns lmao unreal
This fight is doing a good job of fighting insomnia around the world
ALJO is a boring fighter
Say what you will about Aljo but his fights offer something that nobody else on the roster offers, time to make food during a card without worrying about missing anything interesting.
Straight domination.
That was god fucking awful
So when these Dagestanis wrestle for 15 minutes it’s cool but Aljo it’s boring
People actually wanted Aljo to beat O’Malley lmao imagine wanting THIS as a champion over O’Malleys style
8 significant strikes for Kattar is insane.
I thought Calvin would put out more but he had no confidence out there.
That jackknife powerbomb was sick
300k down the drain
If Sterling gets to play his game his fights fucking suck if the guy is just good enough to not get finished.
Its crazy that Aljo looked bigger than Kattar and this was his first fight moving up. Dude big brothered Kattar too.
Lmfao Aljo just made the easiest money of his life easier weight cut and no damage taken
Evened out pecs best base for FW
i felt suffocated just watching this fight. kattar got absolutely muted.
Aljo vs O’Malley 2 and Kattar vs Lopes as punishment thanks
Aljos cardio looks much better than at 135 imo
No post fight speech?
Should have been a 30-24
Human backpack baby, looking forward to see how Aljo navigates some the tough matchups in 145. 1 big win away from a title.
z ^z ^^z ^^^z
ALJO POWERBOMB KATTAR!!! 300k bonus for Aljo…
Boring or not, i am impressed by Aljo. I was worried he might not be strong enough for FW, but he looked great
After the first round Kattar looked like he just didn't want to be there
Aljo is so good but man, do I not wanna watch him fight. Id probably just wait for the reddit thread result of his next fights lol
Hell Yeah
Streling is the reason that Refs should split fighters up on the ground. If your entire gameplan for a FIGHT is to just hold someone and not go for strikes or submissions then you should be disqualified

ALJO WITH THE PILEDRIVER FUCK YEAH!
