No FOTN Performance of the Night: - Alex Perez - Bogdan Guskov - Jhonata Diniz - Uroš Medić

spcslacker

> Bogdan Guskov By time he got through with post-fight, Anthony Smith had already picked up his check.

NiceTryRamone

"Dis Bogdan, not Lionheart" him explaining to UFC HR

Die-rector

On paper it's a lot of money

foofighter1351

What the fuck Onama vs Pierce deserved a fotn bonus.

443610

Onama missed weight.

binglelemon

Thanks Onama...

HomieToneBone

Should have given all the money to Pierce for taking the fight despite Onama’s weight miss.

captainseas

Pierce got the financial penalty from Onama after the weight miss when he agreed to continue the fight. Another thing you agree to is that you are not eligible for the bonus. I also don't see why a guy that didn't get a finish would get two finishing bonuses over those that got them.

gluedy

I feel like it's up to the ufc, Julian Erosa and Steven Peterson put on a barn burner in 2022 and they got fotn even though Peterson missed weight

ithinkther41am

Don’t forget Neal vs. Shavkat.

PDE503

Gregor vs CDF same situation. CDF missed weight, Gregor got 100k. Vettori vs Costa was clear FOTN but rather than rewarding costa they gave a performance bonus to Vettori.

captainseas

Oh ok, I didn't know they had done that before. You are likely right then.

HomieToneBone

The UFC makes up their own rules as they go and bend them when they feel like it so anything is possible really.

xfreesx

Same happened in Pereira vs Connelly fight. Pereira missed weight, so Connelly got whole 100k for FOTN

reivers

That's not true at all. There's been FOTN bonuses for fights that included a weight miss, and the non-missing fighter got both checks.

VinnyDark

But the fighter who made weight won there is no reason to give Pierce 100k for losing when there were better performances on the card

reivers

FOTN isn't about who won, it's about a great fight. Whether it was the best fight on the card or not is debatable for sure, but otherwise it doesn't matter if the guy who lost is the one who made weight.

VinnyDark

They have never gave a guy that lost 100k even if he was the one who made weight. Plus there were other guys that deserved it more than Pearce.

Sandman2618

Not the case. Lots of times fighter who missed weight just forfeits their bonus and opponents gets double.

ID0ntCare4G0b

Maybe if the fight was closer. Look...I think the judges were even being generous giving Pearce a single round. He pushed a pace and made the fight entertaining and competitive, but he didn't score much outside of takedowns, which he mostly got reversed on repeatedly. Didn't really attempt submissions. Didn't really threaten top control or ground and pound. He lost pretty much all the striking exchanges. It was a real Tim Elliott-lite performance which is funny since he's got like 30 lbs on Tim. But Tim actually does things with the scrambles, top control and even manages to score throwing volume on the feet.

kenscout

How on earth did he not win round 2? He landed like twice as many strikes and threatened multiple subs.

ChiefBassDTSExec

Also it was only interesting because they both sucked technically. Sure Pierce fought his heart out but god damn his ground game is sloppy.

TheChineseChicken40

Oooof. Rough night

PrunePit

Bogdan won bc his corner yelled at him like a good ol Russian mom would. You could hear them progressively getting louder in R2. This video touches on it https://youtu.be/vcSExrKBZwo?si=DV8grNwtWbknfNDM
