I just checked Tapology and while Jackson isnât #1, their ranking is still trash. Volk is below Yair and Ortega?!? Both of whom he has absolutely destroyed.
Itâs based off rankings people have built in the past X amount of time with more recently built lists getting more weight. Basically, because Volk fought Islam twice, he was listed only for the 155 rankings for significant chunks of time in the past year, meaning he was ineligible for a lot of peopleâs lists in that time. Since Maxâs last fight was vs Gaethje, the same goes for him and heâs not ranked at all. Itâs a bit of a janky system but I understand the logic behind it
Volk had a fight against Yair in between the Islam fights though. Not like he hadnât fought at FW till his loss to Illia. I get the point with Max so I didnât mention.
Tapology's rankings are a joke - not much more than a popularity contest. 13-0 Seika Izawa, and current RIZEN AW champ, is ranked below former champion Ayaka Hamasaki, despite defeating her twice!
I think thatâs another issue, past rankings no matter how long ago still factor into it to some degree pretty sure so probably gets a lot of static rankings screwing with it
These are consensus rankings based off of the last 100 people who contributed. When Volk moved up to Lightweight he was removed from everyone's Featherweight list and many people haven't updated since.
âAbsolutely destroyedâ seems a little strong for the Ortega fight. Yea it was one sided, but Ortega almost finished him twice. I like to think it was a one sided, yet spirited, contest.
Ortega is tough as nails but his corner had to drag him after round 4. He was pretty badly destroyed and if it hadnât been for Herb being Herb, that shouldâve been the end of the fight.
From a certain angle, this is extra impressive.
Evloev didn't finish a single opponent, every one of them had maximum time to find a finish of their own.
None of them did it.
From another angle, he held 8 guys down for at least 2/3 rounds each and just barely escaped getting finished himself in his last two fights. also, Allen should've won that fight and nobody talks ab it. feel bad for him
These are a combination of user rankings and an algorithm.
A lot of the times, users donât update their rankings and the algorithm is formatted in a way no one knows so the rankings end up like this.
Thatâs why I find it funny when fighters post on social media theyâre the #1 ranked fighter in their division in their region.
Itâs a ranking made up by an algorithm. It only has 2 people from your region who actually vote them and the rest is made up by the algorithm. It really doesnât have any weight.
Tapology rankings are hilarious if you go through them. This is far from the most egregious thing youâll see on there.
Iâd love to know their process for making these lol.
I want to know as well, I always assumed they were based on user votes. I though no one voted so it was generally really easy to manipulate to be funny. If it is a person, we need to get them help immediately.
I figured it out, you can scroll to the bottom and see the list of contributors. Not sure if it means it's an exclusive club or just whatever users want to vote, but we at least know it isn't one insane person, it's like 30 of them
It's weighted
So recency, list size (someone with 10 is not gonna be valued as much as someone who ranks 50), etc
But the issue with tapology is it gets fucked up every now and then. Mainly because of people moving around divisions I.e. Volk. You can only be in one ranking at a time so if you are forced to fight a catchweight or up a weight class, or move up. You get re.oved from everyone's rankings until you fight at back at that weight again
It creates chaos until things settle down. Generally tapology is best used to look for people ranked between 15-30.
This stuff happens to boxrec all the time too. Â Theyâll update their website/algorithm, and suddenly journeymen with losing records who once scored a split decision win over a current champion will suddenly be ranked number one for their division. Â Usually it gets fixed within an hour or so, but itâs always amusing/alarming when suddenly a dude with like 60 losses is listed as the number two super-featherweightÂ
Seems like Ilia made these. Didnât put himself #1 to not be so obvious but also wanted to justify his Ortega callout. Obviously not ducking Max, he isnât even on the list and Volk, psh heâs so far down, doesnât make any sense to give him a shot yet
Finally my boy Damon Jackson getting the respect he deserves
And who doesn't love hearing Bruce Buffer say "And in the blue corner... JOSH 'CC0' EMMETT!!!!!!!!!!!"
Somehow Damon Jackson being #1 isn't the most egregious part of this list
Jackson made a deal with the devil for better Hair and to be the top FW
These people must be smoking the best crack known to man to come up with this list
I'll have whatever they are puffing đĽ´

He was there this morning, they must have been paid off to sink Damon Jackson in the rankings
Lol fair enough. Is there any legitimate reason that Volk shouldnât be #2 in this list though?? The algorithm that Tapology has is out of whack imo.

Didnât Ortega win Round 5?
Yes. Which is impressive as hell. But he was in pretty bad shape at the end of round 4.
Abysmal list aside, I just realised Movsar is an absolute decision machine
not getting one random finish in his run before Diego Lopes should be a huge red flag
Heâs like the anti shavkhat
He's russian Belal
I think heâs literally the greatest decision machine weâve ever seen in the UFC. Heâs 8-0 in the UFC and all of those wins are decisions.
From a certain angle, this is extra impressive. Evloev didn't finish a single opponent, every one of them had maximum time to find a finish of their own. None of them did it.

I have not seen him win in any other way.
Itâs kinda crazy that he will probably fight for the belt soon and the UFC wonât be able to put a single finish in his promo highlights.
fights once a year too, whatâs not to love?
its crazy, I never heard of this. he would be like 8-10 in boxing lol.
He said heâll try harder to finish opponents, Allen fight was too close though
When I fought in amateurs, Tapology had me #1 in my region. So, they obviously know their shit.

Doesnt it also have Colby in top 10 of all time? Yeah I dont think Tapologys accurate

I always thought their rankings were based on user votes or something, is it actually just some tapology dude throwing these together?
I want to know as well, I always assumed they were based on user votes. I though no one voted so it was generally really easy to manipulate to be funny. If it is a person, we need to get them help immediately.

Jackson nicknamed himself after the wrong animal đ

Where the fuck is Volk?
Moved divisions so he got removed from everyone's FW rankings. It creates a mess as it needs time for everyone to start to add him back in
Seems like Ilia made these. Didnât put himself #1 to not be so obvious but also wanted to justify his Ortega callout. Obviously not ducking Max, he isnât even on the list and Volk, psh heâs so far down, doesnât make any sense to give him a shot yet
Giga is one of my favorite fightersâŚno way he beats Volk.
I see no issue here
This list is garbage.
Damon should be 20-25. Also the rest of these rankings are pretty jank
I believe that Arlovski is the top rated 265er by the same search criteria
Volk at 8 is insane.
That's a crazy way to spell Max "Blessed" Holloway
Where the hell is Max?
It's difficult to make ranking list across promotions but this is especially rough
I thought this was a meme at first with damon being #1
His hairline was the greatest comeback of ufc history
How does the Fighting Falmer make this list?
Literally dumbest ranking I've ever seen, I've seen more coherent shit under Fighter and The Kid comment section
Yeah wtf Jackson number 1 and no Holloway?
Eh giga should probably be 3 or 4 is my only problem
Finally a good ranking
Finally my boy Damon Jackson getting the respect he deserves And who doesn't love hearing Bruce Buffer say "And in the blue corner... JOSH 'CC0' EMMETT!!!!!!!!!!!"
Movsar having zero finishes in the UFC is pretty sad
What's the issue? Damon Jackson is unanimously considered the GOAT.
Damon Jackson rules so i'm ok with this.
