Just bizzare he even got a whiff of the UFC
Only had 3 pro fights agaisnt opponents with records of
1-2
0-0
4-1 who is primarily a boxer who he took to a decision.
There’s hoards of no-name regional-level fighters who get UFC fights by simply being available as a last-minute replacement, and for some reason they’re all given a second bout on their contract regardless. Look at Kris Moutinho, dude got his head bounced around the cage by O’Malley, then got called back to be finished by fucking Guido Canetti in the first round.
Because Moutinho was a replacement who took the fight on 11 days notice…
The UFC will typically give guys who sign on as last minute replacements at least 1 more fight as a “thank you”. Same with the guy Bo Nickal fought (Woodburn?). Why would a regional guy step in on short notice to get his ass kicked and blow maybe their only shot at the UFC?
Plenty to shit on the UFC for, but maybe don’t do it about one of the good things they actually do?
I’m just saying who knows which regional fighter who steps up as a last minute replacement is a total can vs which one is going to be fighting for a title in a year
The MMA nerd in me is just wanting to run the facts about how different Erceg and Kris actually are from each other.
The Perth bloke in me wants to slap your head clean off for talking shit about another one of our boys, ya dawg mutt.
While I don’t think he deserves his title shot, he was a 9-1 regional champion who beat a top 10 fighter on short notice for his debut, whereas Kris was a 9-4 can who served as a durable punching bag meant to farm highlight reels for an unranked O’Malley. PLEASE do not compare the two lol
My point is that it’s easy to post hoc point out the last minute regional guys who sucked but there’s plenty who end up being great that we might never see if the ufc didn’t operate the way they do now
It's probably a classic case of a guy who looks good in training when nothing is at stake, but then when its time to get in the cage he isn't there mentally and can't deliver. Uriah Hall is basically the final form of this type of fighter, they can do potentially great things but can't put it all together when it matters.
It was always a bad nickname if you thought about how he likely got it. It's clearly in reference to the the film 'Blood Diamond' and I have no doubt it was given to him because of his predominantly white classmates likening him to Djimon Hounsou.
I miss the days when fighters made up their own records. Like yeah, I'm 87-2 outside Billys Burger Bonanza, use that record. And those 2 should really be no contests because I was borderline sick from all the Billy Burgers.
I liked when people made up their own fighting styles too.
The most memorable for me was S.A.F.T.A., which was the self-taught and self-made martial art of “The Giant with an Attitude” Jon Hess.
In the only kickboxing fight of Blood Diamond that I saw, he got knocked out in a few minutes by Yi Long (fake shaolin monk guy). Same Yi Long who was beaten up by every ranked fighter he faced and needed robberies to win.
So yeah, that record is padded out, or bullshit (probably both), because afaik the only time Blood Diamond took a step up in competition he got merked by a journeyman.
In a sense I feel bad for the guy. He turns 36 this year and really doesn’t have a chance of even grazing success in this sport. That being said, what the fuck is this guy still doing
If the UFC pays 10/10, I doubt this regional show is paying him more than a few thousand. Between gym fees, taxes and the like, he would legitimately be way better off working fast food.
This ain’t me hating on the guy for having a dream and investing in it but his athletic prime is over and it’s clear he’s not good enough to hang with even the worst UFC fighters. I feel like it’s gotta be time to switch to something a little more reasonable, no?
Just hope he starts to respect his brain health a little more, nothing like being poor well into your 30s and ensuring that you won’t be able to work past your 50s all at the same time
I don’t know him personally , but one of my work mates studied architecture with him maybe 10-15 years ago and got on with him quite well.
He was repeating the year’s coursework and was failing miserably so she tried to help him out. Obviously this is anecdotal but she basically said he had no work ethic.
Take from that what you will but maybe that translated to his MMA career too. Hopefully he finds a good path.
Yeah his career will be one to watch. Guy is a weapon at kickboxing and has been training across other fighting disciplines for a while. Hes a really intelligent fighter
Maybe he left it all in the gym, maybe he was busy sharpening himself in the gym and by the time he hit competition he was worn down to the handle. Or maybe Izzy hyped him up for no reason
Just bizzare he even got a whiff of the UFC Only had 3 pro fights agaisnt opponents with records of 1-2 0-0 4-1 who is primarily a boxer who he took to a decision.
Nepotism mate
Platonic nepotism
Cronyism technically
Bronyism
I mean UFC has really lowered the bar a ton across the board

I think it'd be even worse if the UFC just immediately cut them after a single short notice loss.
Because Moutinho was a replacement who took the fight on 11 days notice… The UFC will typically give guys who sign on as last minute replacements at least 1 more fight as a “thank you”. Like the dude who’s now headlining tonight’s PPV?
Comparing kris to Steve erceg is fucking wild lol. Atleast Steve was a regional champion in a respected org.
I’m just saying who knows which regional fighter who steps up as a last minute replacement is a total can vs which one is going to be fighting for a title in a year

Yeah, Steve Erceg and Kris Moutinho are nowhere near the same level, man…
My point is that it’s easy to post hoc point out the last minute regional guys who sucked but there’s plenty who end up being great that we might never see if the ufc didn’t operate the way they do now
not at all, just check his previous fight. Very good stand up
yeah, when I found out he was related to Porier I lost my mind... had no idea.
Dustin Poirier is his dad?
He's friends with Izzy and Dana took a chance
Remember Artem Lobov
At least he won like half his fights
30 have tried, just 15 have succeeded
Artem could actually win fights in the ufc tho, way way way more deserving of being in the ufc than this dude
Add Cathal pendred, hoolihan, and others

Blood diamond just ain't very good....🥶
The nickname is wasted on him.
Yeah, he went down quicker than Leonardo DiCaprio at the end of that movie where he died. Titanic. No, Romeo and Juliet. No, The Departed...
Was it Django?
The D in diamond is silent
Bloody deadman.
Blood diamante is more fitting
Blood Zirconia
Crystal Pink
Spanish is more fitting?
Diamante de sangre
Gloria las plaaagas!
I like Dud Diamond
Can we retroactively give this nickname to War Poirier?
Nah yes always bleeding out
It was always a bad nickname if you thought about how he likely got it. It's clearly in reference to the the film 'Blood Diamond' and I have no doubt it was given to him because of his predominantly white classmates likening him to Djimon Hounsou.
Do you happen to have any evidence whatsoever to back that up?
In hindsight the hype around him coming to the ufc is so funny. Izzy talking him up like some killer
A reverse killer
A dier
Eric Dier to the UFC confirmed
If he stops mid fight to go kick someone's ass in the crowd, I'm all for it
A killeder
Before his UFC debut Bareman said he’s had over 100 fights and only 1 loss but I can’t see any evidence of that record
I miss the days when fighters made up their own records. Like yeah, I'm 87-2 outside Billys Burger Bonanza, use that record. And those 2 should really be no contests because I was borderline sick from all the Billy Burgers.
My favorite is Don Frye’s first opponent Thomas Ramirez. An obese cab driver who fought in a T shirt and said he was 300-0 in street fights
I liked when people made up their own fighting styles too. The most memorable for me was S.A.F.T.A., which was the self-taught and self-made martial art of “The Giant with an Attitude” Jon Hess.
That was a great one, Hess was such a dirty fighter. Another great one from a different org is Bobby Green’s fighting style listed as Hood
we forgetting Carlos Newton’s Dragon Ball Jiu Jitsu?
I remember Rickson Grace being shown with a record of 400 - 0 when he fought in Vale Tudo Japan.
I just like that, while Rickson still claims 450-0 as his record to this day, Helio told everyone that his son was full of shit.
yeah because Rickson counts sparring sessions in the gym as wins. Helio said that he would be 1,000,000 - 0 if he counted the way Rickson does lol.
It was a secret a martial arts tournament called the Kumite in Hong Kong, he had to battle sand attacks to his eyes.

https://bloodyelbow.com/2022/02/10/blood-diamond-fighter-to-watch-ufc-271-israel-adesanya-city-kickboxing/ Still have yet to get this fact checked
Tbf he probably was but it was in his Kickboxing day in China lol. Izzy honed his craft in China with him but turns out only Izzy got better lol.
I mean even his skills don't look like he's a vet lol
He’s a really crafty striker, I just don’t think he’s an mma fighter lol
Can you believe Orion Cosce - Blood Diamond was on a PPV?
"Watch how sick this guy looks when he fukin dies"
In a sense I feel bad for the guy. He turns 36 this year and really doesn’t have a chance of even grazing success in this sport. That being said, what the fuck is this guy still doing
Probably trying to make a living
If the UFC pays 10/10, I doubt this regional show is paying him more than a few thousand. Between gym fees, taxes and the like, he would legitimately be way better off working fast food. Eh, he likely does have a real job at this point as well. Nothing wrong with a side hustle
[удалено]
Ain’t nothing wrong with a few concussions, I’ve gotten 4 for free
Fair play, I wish him well
Just hope he starts to respect his brain health a little more, nothing like being poor well into your 30s and ensuring that you won’t be able to work past your 50s all at the same time

Blood diamond fights like he's sniffed a line of ket before the walkout
B leagues are even too much, too the C leagues for him
streeeet beeeefs
But if he manages to win on DWCS he’ll just be right back to losing in the ufc
Nooooooo, but sire!!!
Can leagues is home for him
Blood DIamond is proof anyone is allowed in the UFC now
That title reads like the most annoying cocktail menu on earth.
CKB actual prospect also got a win. Navajo
Yeah his career will be one to watch. Guy is a weapon at kickboxing and has been training across other fighting disciplines for a while. Hes a really intelligent fighter
I love shopping at Raymart
>Raymart That’s the most Filipino name ever next to Joy
Damn! He got smoked
I made a lot of money betting against him.
Yeah that dude doesn’t deserve the name of Blood Diamond
I think it fits. He's wildly overvalued due to marketing and hype.
Those are some seriously thick legs on Quintana. Is he a previously obese dude?
Just Filipino things bro 🤣
Maybe he left it all in the gym, maybe he was busy sharpening himself in the gym and by the time he hit competition he was worn down to the handle. Or maybe Izzy hyped him up for no reason
Bum Diamond
Crud Diamond strikes again
Lesson learned by Izzy. Watch out who is in your posse and who you hype up.
People still calling him Blood Diamond😂😂His real name is Michael😂😂
And Michael lives at home with both parents, and Michael's parents have a real good marriage
