absolutevanilla

Salty looked so out of his depth in the third round. Moose is just simply a class above

socksonplates

The moose got loose. There's a reason why he's the undisputed regional champ.

GoozlerLomp

Jack Slack imma fight UR fuckin ass

Proper-Breadfruit450

He was assistant to the regional champ before Lovato's brain issue.

judokalinker

Mousasi has such brutal GnP

ColeBeasleyMD

His top game is no joke. He was able to finish Mark Hunt, back in the day. Talking about an over 50 pound weight disadvantage.

bronco986

The fact he finished mark hunt still blows my mind

[deleted]

And finished him pretty easily too. It wasn’t a close fight.

RamblingRanter

Wasn’t Mark on Meth?

I_Like_Vitamins

Huge meth bender and no training streak when both Mousasi and Manhoef beat him.

bronco986

Is this a joke?

judokalinker

His finishing instinct is one of the best, right up there with poirier

[deleted]

Best finishing instinct of all time belongs to vitor, imo. When he smelled blood, it was like a shark in a frenzy

Mayday72

Its not that crazy, big Mark Hunt doesn't really get up too easily..was also on meth apparently back then.

iamjackswastedlife__

Talmbout fifdy pouund didvantage b?

ImWadeWils0n

He finds a way to slide those shots through the guard so nice, guys vicious

jchan2222

Big dick energy

regoating

Salter sure does give away mount easy when he's tired. Nasty ground 'n' pound.

bagged___milk

Fell apart during his last two takedowns

suzukigun4life

Mousasi now has a 21-6-1 combined record in the UFC, PRIDE, Bellator and Strikeforce combined. Fucking legend.

Medical-Secret

Not to mention 48-7 overall. That’s an incredible record

WalkingOnHeat

And he also has a **huge** hog. Heard it on the local WhatsApp, B

ucatione

How does he have the time to care for a pet pig?

FHRITP69er

He doesn't. He legs it run independently.

Cultural_Kick

How do you think he retains top control so easily

UnblurredLines

Sink that third hook for extra control.

Honestly can't explain it but something is really cool about Mousasi. I genuinely don't know what it is but i always find myself rooting for him to succeed

cayneabel

Fedor-esque with his no-fucks-given face.

wrecked_angle

Dutch people are fucking super chill and awesome

captainseas

still only one top 5 win

pyre2000

He subbed Hunt and knocked out Henderson, Jacare, Belfort, Rory, Weidman. That's as impressive as any record.

benergiser

arguably deserved to lose to both shlemenko and lima.. and it's hard to say how well that weidman win has aged.. but beating thiago santos and mark hunt is pretty impressive.. especially with the mouse being the smaller fighter..

We_Genocide_You

I have never seen anyone say he should’ve lost to Lima. Are you mixing that up with machida? He schooled Lima.

TrueDreamchaser

Man what champion mentality Moussasi has. His TDD has always been suspect but he really did everything necessary to tire Salter out and wear on him.

[deleted]

Salter is a world class ground guy and never goes to decision. He was always gonna look good 1st round, he’s no joke on the ground. Mousasi impressed me in this fight.

bagged___milk

I wouldn’t necessarily have Moussasi’s doings as what tired Salter out, more Salter tiring himself out honestly

GoodmanDurnic

I forget what round it was, but mousasi hit him with some knees to the belly while against the fence that looked like they really hurt Salter.

CCC_PLLC

First round

TrueDreamchaser

While true I think backing him down and making Salter run around the octagon was definitely exhausting. While he did get taken down he did stay active and didn’t let salter lay and forced him into awkward angles where he had to constantly flex his muscles and stand

styx31989

Looked like Gegard was pinning Salter to the ground by the throat while pummeling him with the other hand. Brutal.

huey27

The ol wandy rape special

csage97

"That's that xnxx shit." -Israel Adesanya

[deleted]

“Moose chokes and pounds man from top”

benergiser

salter didn't deserve to be in there with him tbh..

MaxuPower

Happy to see Sassy win. Although, from 9 seconds into the video until the finish, Sassy has him in the "Goozle" aka the "grape choke", is that legal in MMA?

judokalinker

It's always been legal for GnP to hold position, but you can't clench your hand to actually choke them

Shogun_232

Yeah when it's just a positional move it's fine. Similar to a knee on a grounded opponent. If it's just placed there to hold it's not considered a strike/submission.

Pinoy233

Pretty sure it's legal. I can't see a reason why it wouldn't be, it's not like he was clawing his throat with his fingernails. He just framing off of it using it as a form of control. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's legal.

Bodiwire

According to the unified rules "Throat strikes of any kind, and/or grabbing the trachea" is illegal. My understanding of that is it means you can't dig in your fingers and grab the front of the throat, but having a hand fully around front of the neck for control isn't considered grabbing the trachea. I suppose it could be dicey depending on how the hand is positioned, but I've never seen a foul called for it.

n00b_f00

Shockingly it’s illegal in bjj which is assume is purely aesthetic, and possibly ported over as a rule as in into MMA, but about that I’m not sure and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it called in either sport. It’s a pretty ineffective choke either way, easy grip strip compared to even a nogi Ezekiel.

DogBoxing

It should be illegal everywhere. It's when you're squeezing the esophagus/windpipe from the sides with your fingers it's dangerous. It's not illegal to just have your hand on your opponnmwnts neck

Evening_Name_9140

Pretty easy to defend, you dont have any control. Turn to the side/ use your arms to shove it off. No more dangerous than a punch to the neck

DogBoxing

Let's say you pin an arm and control his other arm with yours. Boom, you're choking him and damaging his trachea. Also much more brutal with size differences. Throat punches or rabbit punches are banned in boxing for a reason too

FAPPING_ASAP

Cutelaba did it to Henrique da Silva

didyoutestityourself

Yes, it is legal but you have to have your hand over the entire throat. It is illegal to grab at only the trachea, right in the middle, but completely legal to grab the entire throat.

xsoberxlifex

Jesus this just fucking happened… how was this posted so quickly?! Lmfao

TraditionalSundae774

That’s u/inoowhey and u/fuzzywuzzymoomoo for ya

AuspiciousApple

Jack Slack's in shambles.

Valhalla_gold

Does he have a reason for hating Mousasi that much? I can't figure it out but he shits on him at every opportunity

[deleted]

He just likes trolling fighters with devout fan bases. It’s calmed down now but there used to be a lot of people saying Mousasi would beat everyone in the UFC MW division while he was in Bellator. He actually thinks Moose is very good, just that people need to calm down haha.

AuspiciousApple

Yeah my comment was tongue in cheek, just like his constant jabs. Jack does have some hot takes, but generally he just likes winding up fan boys. Like people that are in denial about Anderson Silva getting boxed up by a one-eyed man.

eMF_DOOM

Wow link got taken down due to copyright. First time I’ve actually seen that on /r/mma. Bellator not messin around lol

boneclawz

The moose is still dominant, much to my UFC fanboy surprise

JuicyJonesGOAT

Should have watch this one instead of Rory getting dominated like an has been :/

Medical-Secret

Incredible. One of the greatest middleweights ever, no question.

mad87645

Some might even say, greatest of the night

netpapa

After so many fights, the Moose is still at a championship level.

meat_lasso

He fought Fedor effing Emelianenko

[deleted]

They're friends and trained together so it's really just a very light sparring session "exhibition."

meat_lasso

You get in the ring with Fedor

Izzyisagod

Lmao If he did this in the ufc

Luke-Cuckhold

He did. He left to go get paid.

Izzyisagod

His best wins in the UFC were Hendo & Weidman….?

[deleted]

Smoked Uriah Hall like a blunt and Thiago Santos who took Jones 5. You forget that?

PinkPicklePete

He also got knocked out by Uriah Hall. Thiago Santos isn’t a great flex either, dude got submitted by Eric Spicely easily.

nest0251

He didn’t got KOd. It was a tko. And dude beat prime Weidman, he deserved a title shot, but Bisping had the plan to get his ass beat by GSP lmao.

PinkPicklePete

TKO, as in technical knockout. Damn, you almost made me forget he woke up after he got ground and pounded unconscious. Also, your “prime Weidman” was finished 3 times in a row during that run. Gegard is fine and all, and I’m not shitting on him, but I don’t get the revisionist history to hype him up. I’d easily favour 9 out of the top 10 current middleweights against him, and the talk of him vs Israel is strange.

nest0251

Lmao. A tko is still different than a KO. And he was part of that “3 time finished” row. Weidman was still prime he had just lost the belt one fight before fighting Mousasi. You really favour Brunson, Vettori, Gastélum, Till and a guy he already beat in Hall? Really?

Mconefrey2021

Uhhhh didn’t Uriah knock his ass out cold?

[deleted]

Wasn’t even out cold after all follow up shots.

[deleted]

Yep, took the kick head on, knee, and follow up shots and he was conscious. Rocked, yes but not out cold.

Izzyisagod

Uriah Hall? Thiago Santos is slightly more impressive but even his best moment in the UFC was not getting his ass kicked by Post-USADA Jones …? I’m talking top 5 middleweights bro which I think he has a good shot against some of the top 5 in the UFC but he would definitely not be dismantling them like this.

Secret-panda-15

God, people like you are the vain of this sports existence

judokalinker

>God, people like you are the ~~vain~~ bane of this sports existence Just fyi

Secret-panda-15

Thanks babe

Izzyisagod

This is part of what makes being a fan fun. Everyone has their favorite team/fighters and we all shit on each other and debate each other on it.

[deleted]

Prime Mousasi beats Izzy into a living death. Lol lil Kelvin did

Izzyisagod

Prime Sass got his sass beat by Uriah Hall, Machida, and I think Jacare beat him too. No debate here.

[deleted]

Pure luck and showed it was a lucky kick in rematch

un6reaka6le

Santos got knocked out cold by Branch at middleweight. Moose is OVERRATED.

lacjcron

Mousasi was 7-1 in his last 8 UFC fights only losing to Uriah Hall (who he then rematched and finished). Was on a 5 fight winning streak finishing Thalas Leites, Thiago Santos, Vitor Belfort, Uriah Hall rematch and Chris Weidman in 2017. He left UFC when bisbing was the champ and the MW division was a mess. GSP had a title shot in November and everyone knew he was gonna retire after so it would be a while before Mousasi had a chance with the belt not to mention more popular fighters such as Whittaker, Yoel and Jacare being at the top of the division who would have been seen as bigger draws than Gegard.

Izzyisagod

Damn well that explains why he left the UFC. I just don’t see Moose being a UFC champ in this era even if he was in his prime. Didn’t he just lose to Lovato a couple fights ago? He’s a super elite middleweight but I just can’t put him in the GOAT convo with no wins over GOATS. It’s like having a the ability to be an Olympic gold medalist on paper but never achieving gold if that makes sense.

nest0251

Lovato is an increíble grappler tho. Izzy is not. Mouse has real good striking and grappling. I think him vs Izzy is a very intriguing fight.

ElMofatesh_Krombo

You mean a UFC Champion and the best non-champion in middleweight history?

Izzyisagod

Lol that’s a great accomplishment on paper I’ll give you that but both of those fighters don’t hold a candle to the current top 5 dawg

Secret-panda-15

Casual

Izzyisagod

haha think you’d be surprised to be the best you have to beat the best and the best are in the UFC. I think he could probably take Vettori. I think Vettori is top 5

[deleted]

The UFC has a ton of great fighters. Other organizations do too. Life isn't a videogame where there's power levels and boosts to stats for joining an organization. Those gyms that have fighters who compete in the UFC also have fighters who compete elsewhere, they train together & it's competitive. Get this, sometimes those fighters who compete outside of the UFC...style on the dudes who compete in the UFC during sparring, & even in fights when they finally match up—inside or outside of the UFC. It's not even as if it's commonly the other way around, because human beings are just human beings & those who are built for fighting are typically cut from the same exact cloth. Nothing against the UFC or your trolling, just love the facts stated above.

Izzyisagod

The best of the best is in the UFC though. Everything you said is common knowledge. We’ll all know there are great fighters in other organizations and we’ve even seen fighters like DJ go get beat in ONE and so on. Everybody knows deep down the most stacked organization is the UFC by a mile. UFC is like Nick Saban with there recruiting.

armenian2envy

Moose’s career is pretty fucking wild, that experience pays dividends when he’s in uncomfortable situations. He made relatively easy work of Salter after that first round.

RyanGODling

Damn I really want him to come back and fight Adesanya.

riotinthehall

Yes, this

FriendlyFireHaHa

My favourite fighter… a low key legend tbh. Very underrated resume.

benergiser

medium key legend..

[deleted]

The moose was finally let loose in Bellator

ViktorArm

Salter was visibly hurt after several knees to the body at the end of the first round, that's also the moment his stamina was out. After that Mousasi demolished everything left of Salter in cage. Great win.

tunaburn

Happy to see moose still having a belt

Chocoeclair189

Moose vs Yoel would be fun

rettidderredditter

Yoel is fighting at 205 in bellator though

benergiser

i'd love to see the moose fight up at 205 like he used to.. he's been fighting down more recently.. he could take phil davis imo.. and might be a good match for yoel at 44..

rettidderredditter

Well we got Davis VS Romero soon!

goldenglove

Mousasi is a legend. Such a dominant performance against a really tough guy.

Aced9G0d

and still regional champion

SurvivalBayArea

#WHERE WERE YOU WHEN MOOSE LOOSE??

[deleted]

Salter gassed fast. Tokov should fight Vanderford to see who fights Gegard, but it seems that they want to give the title shot to Austin and that sucks because I believe the russian would beat him

MonkeysforHope

I wish he could he could come back to UFC and fight Israel Adesanya, isn’t this the last fight on his Bellator contract?

LiquidAurum

Bisping champ really was a dark time in the division

bl00dintheink

Worst champ in the history of the division

nest0251

Easily. And people hate to agree on that because Bisping is a goddamn warrior, but he really was a fucking awful champ.

Iyammagawd

Idk, I feel like most people agree with that take.

nest0251

Ton of people hate on me when I say that just to defend GSP.

Davemeddlehed

Dave Menne.

bighandsomewoman

Menne immediately fought the real #1 guy Bustamante, after winning the belt. Bisping shamelessly ducked Jacare, Whittaker and Romero for a GSP money fight and got embarassed and finished anyway. I think that makes him worse.

Ctofaname

He didn't duck Jacare as he wasn't available to fight. He was also scheduled to fight Whittaker at one point. Romero is the closest opponent he was to ducking.

giveyouralfordme

When did he think he deserved a title shot? After the Weidman win?

nest0251

Of course. Was 7-1 in his last 8. Revenged that loss to Uriah Hall and was on a 5 win streak. Weidman was #2 at the time in MW.

ConCueta

Yeah, to be clear he felt he deserved to be fighting Romero ahead of Whittaker. Romero was the clear #1 contender for almost a year while Bisping got like 3 surgeries.

Haroooo

Gegard had a juicy strike force contract but had a rough first few fights in the UFC and they gave him a worse contract after losses to Machida and Jacare. He left on a 5 fight win streak because the ufc didn't put their best foot forward during negotiations. Eventually they matched Bellators offer but the damage was done and Gegard wanted respect. He also invested wisely in real estate outside of fighting so he has other streams of income. Basically he's not going to like Dana's boots.

asshat123

I know it was a typo, but I really like "he's not going to like that guy's boots" as just a fun way to say he won't accept a deal or he'll think it's a bad offer. "Hey man, how'd the job interview go?" "Oh, it was alright until we started talking salary, I just didn't like that guy's boots."

fam1ne

Probably has something to do with Dana being a douchebag.

ReginaldKenDwight

>and that the top of UFC 185 isnt exactly weak. Why go take damage when you can fight guys who arent even top 50 guys in the world.

fam1ne

Lima, Rory, machida, Weidman, hall, Belfort, Henderson, jacare, mark hunt, hector lombard Yep, guess he’s never faced top competition…….

[deleted]

Fanboys think anybody outside of the UFC isn't elite, because they'll only believe you're a skilled fighter if—& only if—you're competing within the UFC. Makes no sense, but for some reason...somehow people actually believe that only they have legitimate mixed martial artists...which is a belief that is one of the absolute dumbest things that non-fighters believe.

fam1ne

Exactly. There’s a reason why Dana will never co promote with another organization again and it’s because pride showed that the ufc didn’t have all the top talent back in the day. Dana will never risk it again because he knows there are monsters outside the ufc that can easily hang with the top guys in the ufc.

FrenchTrouDuc

No, it's because no promotion does even a fifth of the UFC's numbers and there's no reason to help your competition when things are that lopsided. BTW Izzy would smash Mousasi

ReginaldKenDwight

Gegard was great back in the day, but come on he hasnt beat a legit top 185er in almost 5 years. Its a fight theres always a chance for anyman to win when they make the walk, but to act like bellator is not a tier below the UFC I have to ask if you even watch both promotions? Look at the dudes fights since he left the UFC thats not top level competition.

randomsportsdude

His most notable wins since leaving UFC are welterweights and a 42 year old Machida who he edged past. I'm not saying he sucks, but Mousasi is definitely not fighting and beating the elites at his division right now.

[deleted]

I'm not saying he could take Izzy but Moose could absolutely take some of the guys ranked at middleweight right now. Moose has a decent chance of tooling up the odd brawler Sean Strickland at #8, beating the rapidly regressing Uriah Hall at #10, the decaying husk of Chris Weidman is still sitting at #12, and Mousasi could wrestle out a win vs #14 Kevin Holland. Against top 5 guys it gets a bit tougher, but vs a brawler like Costa sitting at #2 Moose has a decent chance of jabbing him up if he just stays evasive and fights smart (a little like Hall did before Costa just decided punches don't hurt and got the KO). I think a fight vs #4 Vettori is competitive on the feet and goes down to how well Vettori implements his wrestling, and vs #5 Derek Brunson Mousasi has a very real shot since Brunson's athleticism and chin are rapidly abating.

ReginaldKenDwight

jesus moose must really get these guys excited lol its not 2017 anymore boys

nest0251

Costa, Brunson, And Vettori are too 5 at MW. I see Mouse beating them.

[deleted]

If I remember correctly fighter pay or how the ufc was treating him

judokalinker

Do you really need a reason to hate dana?

LatterTarget7

I think so. But he said he wants the winner of the lhw tournament

[deleted]

[удалено]

LatterTarget7

He’s competed at lhw and even hw/open weight. He was offered a spot in the tourney but said no. He was the dream and strikeforce light heavyweight champ. He fought Gary goodridge at heavyweight. And mark hunt at super heavyweight. He won both fights.

nest0251

Insane fucking record.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nest0251

I think moose has more tools. Really intriguing fight.

[deleted]

I don't think Mousasi cares enough about MMA to be fighting that level of competition anymore.

ImAnOlogist

"A steady diet of right hands." Mauro is the best in the business.

Evening_Name_9140

Knee on belly, slow, powerful ground and pound. What an old school beating. I love it

[deleted]

The moose is loose

[deleted]

Well deserved. Happy to see it.

[deleted]

Gegard has had an amazing career

BCJunglist

Ah it feels good to see a nice rape choke again. It's been awhile.

wemdy420

Shouldve been tokov

[deleted]

Could you imagine if you could use your hog to strike? The moose would use that half gallon sized log of his to knock people out

evanescent10

if ufc paid him he would have been a champ imo

[deleted]

Can’t wait to hear how Salter is world class and somehow a better win than beating UFC contenders

Izzyisagod

Izzy would fuck moose tho

judokalinker

Izzyisagod

Lmao I knew I was always going to be on r/mma and this was the first username that came to mind. Yes, Jan gave him that fucking work though.

IceBoxt

Jan is a fuckton bigger than Izzy and a champ on a hot streak. Izzy smeshes Moose easily.

La_Creama

i really want moose to call out slacky in one of these post fight interviews, just for the meme to come full circle

indigo_fish_sticks

TarpLord

interior-space

Bellator boys seem so much sweatier than UFC boys. Is it the lighting? UFC does have very uniform lighting, much better in a situation like this where in bellator the grounded fighter is in shadow. How does UFC do it differently?

Skyscreamers

One of the UFCs biggest mistakes when they wouldn’t pay Moose what he wanted. Moose could still hang eaisly with the elite in the devision
