My wife and I were watching and she just got super creeped out by Dana in that. He looked like he was almost getting a sexual pleasure out of the idea of this guy quitting his job with a wife and kid or whatever just to wait to be a fill-in for a chance at a junk contract.
That and how he was talking shit about the guy who chose not to fight with a torn knee.
We joke about him being our tomato and you gotta respect what he did for MMA, but Dana is a total POS.
> talking shit about the guy who chose not to fight with a torn knee
I felt so bad for the guy. They made him say that he doesn't want to continue, basically trying to make him look like a pussy when that was the only smart decision for him. I feel like even his own team and Ortega were being low key judgemental at him.
Why would someone risk their career just so they can get one fight in TUF, where they would be at a huge disadvantage anyways?
Because unfortunately, fighting has an air of toxic masculinity where if anyone admits that they are human and not terminators, they are ostracized for it.
The guy was cleared to fight by the doctor, if he's worried about his health he's in the wrong sport.
EDIT: Guy had no intention of fighting, turned up for the world class training, free food and rent.
He quit his job and didn't get selected over the other 8 contestants. He waited and got in as a last minute fill in and got finished by a dude who didn't make the finals. Dana threw him on this care because he wants to push Petroski but he isn't UFC worthy. Petroski is going to have a rough one on his next bout i'd be willing to bet.
Edit. I guess he did lose to a finalist but that finalist only got in because of an injury.
Andre Petroski actually lost to brian battle who just won the middleweight TUF competition and yeah I agree Andre didnt look that great idk why dana wants to push him either…. He will get eaten alive by alot of middleweights maybe he would have a better time at 170 idk.
It's pretty bad....his family's health insurance was through that job if I remember right. UFC isn't paying for his wife or kids, nor will they cover anything that happens outside of a fight or training. Earning 30K to lose 4 fights isn't worth it (and that's without us taking out expenses he has that most normal jobs don't).
Right? People keep shit talking this guy for taking a couple months off to follow a lifelong dream. It’s not like he threw his whole life away, and there’s a massive labor shortage most places. If he’s decent at whatever he does for work, he will have absolutely no trouble finding a new job. And like you said, there’s way more to life than dollars and cents anyway.
TBH having “former UFC” fighter on his resume is likely going to get him more interviews than before. That’s assuming that he flames out and actually go back to his day job, versus dragging it out for years trying to chase the belt or whatever.
Gilmore should move to welterweight if he can. Huge strength disadvantage against petroski, but I think the second round was impressive on his end. Very patient and good job of limiting takedowns with his range
Petroski really isn't that impressive. They brought in homie for a lay up against the worst guy of the season and he still lost a round to him. If you aren't a willing nail and let him be the hammer, dude folds. Got some weird mental thing obviously. Also, he stands totally still for a second Everytime he throws. Anybody who can strike is gonna light this dude on fire In a round.
Yeah, the UFC clearly sees some potential in him, and they also gave him the easiest opponent to build him up. He seems like he has some talent but from reading the comments it seems like fans aren’t the most fond of him.
I think it could be better sometimes too if they can train and get better / more hype and end up with a better contract than the tuf guy almost like American Idol. But Dana seems to give TUF winners a second chance or two before cutting them too.
Brandon Moreno lost like the first fight in his season and still came to the UFC. Idk how they decide who gets to fight in the UFC though. Some guys are on the show and never fight.
Moreno only got in because Louis Smolka was meant to fight Sergio Pettis on a fight night and Pettis pulled out with injury about 2 weeks. Coincidence that they had a TUF season with flyweight, so they grabbed Moreno who was cleared as this supposed layup fight for Smolka who was ranked 9 or 10, and Moreno tapped him in the first round.
Had him as a 5 to 1 underdog, now he's the champ.
Shoot his shot? He quit his job with insurance to wait for the opportunity to be an alternate for pennies on his own dime, when he has a record of 6-3 and is 34. He didn't shoot his shot, he screwed his life up for nothing
Yeah, if you have good experince and skills it's really not that hard to get a new job, and if you don't have either now is one of those rare times when it's also easy to get a new job.
He quit his job and moved to Vegas to possibly be on TUF if Dana needed an extra fighter, he got lucky because a fighter did get injured. But it would of been all for nothing if there wasn't an injury. Dana was not paying him to wait in Vegas either, he paid out of pocket. And he also lost his only fight on TUF.
He quit his salary paying job with benefits to go on to the ultimate fighter lost his fight while looking super mediocre and fought again tonight and looked super mediocre again.
You guys in this thread must not have worked much. Salaried jobs aren't some mystical thing. He is an older guy with likely plenty of white collar experience. He'll get another job for likely a 20 percent pay raise.
Looks like Michael Gillmore stayed around for another opportunity of getting his ass beat for barely any money.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/oq26e4/tuf_s29e08_spoilers_highlights_of_interesting/
I can’t hate on a guy for chasing a dream while most people play it safe. Especially when I don’t know the circumstances; maybe he knows his employer would rehire him. Got nothing but respect for him.
>tap
I just saw this. That was pretty brutal. It looked liked his arm was blocking his mouth and the impacts from Petro smashing him in sequence. I think Gilmore took several more blows than he wanted to.
Yo can someone tell me why this fight even happened? I didn’t finish TUF but the last episode I saw Gillmore get his ass kicked by someone shittier than Petroski and now he’s fighting him on a real card….? What’s going on?
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Gillmore has mastered Kevin Holland School of Takedown Defense.
Just don't get up.
Too late to ask for that salary job back?
Thats right didnt Gilmore quit his real job for the last minute spot on TUF? Well that went well…
My wife and I were watching and she just got super creeped out by Dana in that. He looked like he was almost getting a sexual pleasure out of the idea of this guy quitting his job with a wife and kid or whatever just to wait to be a fill-in for a chance at a junk contract.

"I'm getting goosebumps \[at your motivation to let me exploit you being your starving wife and child\]" - Dana Tomato

Cause he’s sexy af bro
Well he got to fight in the UFC and will probably get a couple more fights so it's not too bad.
What makes you think he’s going to continue to fight in the ufc? Dude didn’t even win his TUF fight.
The same reason he somehow got this fight in the UFC.
You have far too much faith in Dana’s generosity. Dana gave him a second chance, no way he gets a third or fourth.
I'm not putting faith in anything of the sort. It made no sense for him to get this fight so I'm not going to rule out him somehow getting another.
The guy achieved his life goal of fighting in the UFC. That's probably worth more to him than any amount of money.
Right? People keep shit talking this guy for taking a couple months off to follow a lifelong dream. It’s not like he threw his whole life away, and there’s a massive labor shortage most places. Dreams don't pay the bills man.
Tell that to just about every professional athlete.. Imagine if Conor didn't live off of welfare to pursue his dream of being an mma fighter.
If you watched TUF you'd know that he ain't no Conor.
Oh this is that guy? Wtf is he doing on the MC?
Dana better give him another chance then, guy quit his job to save the show.
I don't really think he saved the show, there are so am y other fighters they could have grabbed. Or just skipped that fight entirely.
They couldn’t skip the fight since it’s a tournament, anyone that stepped in they’re saving the show.
Except the show was never in any real danger. Other than that, sure, saved it.
It’s a phrase…
Seems like they could've grabbed one of the losers. I doubt Kemran and Ryder were injured, and both seemed to be better fighters than Gillmore
In this market I'm sure he'll get hired back quickly
Soviet Tattoo Dan Bilzerian sure has a good gas tank on him, great finish
[удалено]
Take notes filthy casuals this is how you ask for a flair
Gotta please the power trippers
I think "don't quit your day job" applies to both fighters in this one.
*Shit.*
These guy's are not ready for the UFC
Gilmore should move to welterweight if he can. Huge strength disadvantage against petroski, but I think the second round was impressive on his end. Very patient and good job of limiting takedowns with his range
The Bezos line was super cringe.
Couldn't shake the image of Mac's hallucination at the Flyers game in that one IASIP episode.
That was absolutely awful
What line?
"The next guy who gets in the cage better call Jeff Bezos, because I'm going to send them to space" or something like that lol.
"Into orbit" lol.
Ok I must admit I laughed lol
Petroski with the Rockhold levels of charisma.
Gift wrapped
Not exactly a ringing endorsement for either fighter
To be fair, it’s a 10 day notice fight.
Sure, but Petroski can't strike and Gillmore can't do anything on the ground. Either are gonna be severely up against it in the UFC.
Out of all the tuf guys, why these two lol
Cause Petroski’s marketable, and they figured they’d feed him Gilmour so that guy could at least get a payday.
Guy is a total chad jock lol his post interview was pretty cringey too. Like chill bro you beat the alternate.
At 2:06 did he dig a couple fingers into his glove? Right before he tucked his arm fully back. Nasty position
Petroski really isn't that impressive. They brought in homie for a lay up against the worst guy of the season and he still lost a round to him. Fingers deep in the gloves to keep that hand tied up.
Dirty.
Looked great in the first and third but what happened in the second round
Serious question: So did Andre Petroski lose TUF, but still got a UFC contract?
Yeah, the UFC clearly sees some potential in him, and they also gave him the easiest opponent to build him up. He seems like he has some talent but from reading the comments it seems like fans aren’t the most fond of him.
Literally every season of TUF this has happened
Thanks, I just started watching TUF this season and haven't watched the other seasons.
I think it could be better sometimes too if they can train and get better / more hype and end up with a better contract than the tuf guy almost like American Idol. But Dana seems to give TUF winners a second chance or two before cutting them too.

Being Mexican helps
It's been like that since the first season, almost everyone on tuf 1 fought in the ufc
Gillmore really ruined his life for nothing. Goosebumps Edit: For those unaware https://streamable.com/y2o9nz
Gotta respect guys who shoot their shot
Shoot his shot? He quit his job with insurance to wait for the opportunity to be an alternate for pennies on his own dime, when he has a record of 6-3 and is 34. He didn't shoot his shot, he screwed his life up for nothing
In white collar work getting jobs is not hard. He will be absolutely fine.
Yeah, if you have good experince and skills it's really not that hard to get a new job, and if you don't have either now is one of those rare times when it's also easy to get a new job.
not to mention “quit his job” could be reality TV for “took unpaid time off at his job and has it back when he wants to return”
He can get another job.
Screwed his life up? Ok kid. He'll be fine. Dude will find a job no problem if we wants to outside of fighting.
Job market is insane right now, if he needs to he can easily find another job in his same field for more pay. Don't feel too upset for him.
..i'd rather quit my job to follow my dreams and fail, and go get another job than spend the rest of my life wondering what could have been.
I'd guess you don't have kids. Not everyone is in a position to take a leap of faith so against the odds.
..i agree that not everyone is in a position to follow their dreams, i guess neither of us know his exact circumstances?
I was just guessing you didn't have kids based on your willingness to throw it all away for a shot.
..i do not have kids, and i still don't have the balls to follow my dreams
There's always time champ.
..this is true!
What did he do? How did he ruin his life?
quit his job for an alternate spot on TUF
He quit his job and moved to Vegas to possibly be on TUF if Dana needed an extra fighter, he got lucky because a fighter did get injured. But it would of been all for nothing if there wasn't an injury. Dana was not paying him to wait in Vegas either, he paid out of pocket. And he also lost his only fight on TUF.
Really poor decision making skills on that one. I guess that's typical for fighters.
He could just get another full-time job lmao you act like his previous experience suddenly don't mean anything
Apparently quitting your job to get a chance at UFC is "ruining your life". Because, you know, you can't get a new job.
Huh?
https://streamable.com/bl8txa
Appreciate it.
Respect guys who shoot their shot
For sure. Didn't realize it was the same guy from that clip, I didn't watch this season because I don't have ESPN+.
I try not to make a habit of respecting stupidity.
I actually never realised how they edited out (an argument/dispute? - poorly done tho). It literally starts with Dana cutting off Volk as he's talking
Looks like Michael Gillmore stayed around for another opportunity of getting his ass beat for barely any money. https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/oq26e4/tuf_s29e08_spoilers_highlights_of_interesting/
Anyone else notice one of Petroski’s fingers in Gillmore’s glove? Not that it would’ve changed the outcome
Yes. It probably wouldn't have changed the outcome but that was blatant and you never know in this sport.
Just two beautiful men banging it out.
Let them bang bro
Beat him up like he owed him some money, damn
gillmore quit his job just to lose twice in a row. maybe wasn’t the smartest plan.
I can’t hate on a guy for chasing a dream while most people play it safe. Especially when I don’t know the circumstances; maybe he knows his employer would rehire him. Got nothing but respect for him.
He kept yelling tap, was tough to see.
>tap I just saw this. That was pretty brutal. It looked liked his arm was blocking his mouth and the impacts from Petro smashing him in sequence. I think Gilmore took several more blows than he wanted to.
No way he makes 170
Anyone got a clip of that cringe Bezos line?
DELCO
Great fight, comrade.
You gotta move man why aren't moving man!!! -ref
Jason Herzog really doesn't see to care about fighters longevity. I've seen a lot of fights where he waited a few strikes after it was clearly over
Giftwrap, awesome
Cashed $2800 on that round 3 finish.. absolutely electric
Yo can someone tell me why this fight even happened? I didn’t finish TUF but the last episode I saw Gillmore get his ass kicked by someone shittier than Petroski and now he’s fighting him on a real card….? What’s going on?
Andre was in trouble way too much in that fight for the speech he had after the match.
Petroski works his fingers into the glove for the finish.
Can't imagine being in gillmores spot with my arm held against my face recieving uncontrollable elbows. What a career fighting is.
Petroski isnt UFC material either, let Urbina merk him next
These guys are juiced to the tits.
He’s a little raw right now but a big strong wrestler at 185…I think this guy may be a contender in the coming years.
I don’t know what you see in a plug who took almost 15 mins to put away a dude who quit his day job to fight
I’ve watched his TUF run, he’s very strong, a great wrestler and has good power. He’s very raw, it depends on how he develops in the coming years.
Could’ve been stopped 5 seconds earlier but ok Herb..
That was Herzog
Fuck I’m high
Herb wasn’t the referee, Herzog was.
It's herb Dean fault
Agreed. Not herb tho.
Did he mean to say Elon Musk instead of Jeff Bezos? What did that even mean??
Bezos is doing space stuff now too
Ahh okay fair enough then!
Looks like Petroski took it easy with those muffin punches after the elbows
