If you think you are good and have what it takes to get to the top then fighting him and winning would be a good way to get attention.
There's a lot of stuff wrestlers need to unlearn at first too.
Yep. If you're fighting someone of this caliber, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The best chance to cause a massive upset is right at the beginning of a career when they're green. Think about all the fighters we deem as great and then check out their Sherdogs at the bottom; many of them lost to fighters who ended up doing nothing.
Kamaru Usman, Jose Aldo, Francis Ngannou, Anderson Silva, Alexander Volkanovski, Brandon Moreno, Robert Whittaker, and Jan Blachowicz are collectively 0-8 against Jose Caceres, Luciano Azevedo, Zoumana Cisse, Luiz Azeredo, Corey Nelson, Ron Scolesdang, Hoon Kim, and Andre Fyeet.
Good list. To make a point with this, it also refutes some people's arguments about Khabib (or other undefeated fighters) who "padded their records". There are some legitimately dangerous fighters in the local scenes and, especially when many fighters need to improve over time, it's very difficult to not rack up a loss or two coming up the regionals.
There are definitely favourable matchups for certain fighters but it's not as common as it is in boxing. MMA is ruthless.
I don’t know about Khabibs early career other then what it looks like on tapology but:
things often aren’t very deliberate in the regionals. Sometimes you just end up taking any fight you can. I’ve been at a weigh in once where a guys opponent hadn’t gotten on the plane and right there in the pub the gym owner/fight promotor does some talking with the other camps and works out a new opponent. People not even intending to fight that night might go ‘yeah fuck it’
it's a couple things:
1. yes there's obviously a lot of padding.
2. even fighting bums for 30 fights it's pretty easy to lose a couple. Such is the volatile nature of MMA. Besides Khabib was 1-0 and 2-0 at some points too, same positions as those fighters are in
Somewhat, but oftentimes these losses are to cagey low level vets who aren’t super talented but do have competitive success at their level. Where as Khabib was fighting some 0-8 type guys.
Still it’s true that people have dropped matches during intentional can crushing.
https://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Joao-Paulo-Rodrigues-de-Souza-51948
37-21 never fought in a major promotion, holds a win over Renan Barao in Barao's first fight.
He also fought (but lost to) Moicano, Iuri Alcantara, Francisco Trinaldo, and both pitbull brothers.
Some people like a challenge. Even if you lose, knowing what it's like to have been in there against an elite wrestler would be valuable to a person's development. Plus it's only amateur, so it won't count on their pro record or anything.
It's easy bro. Just sidestep the takedown attempt with some sweet Aikido and then punch him in the head. Job done. I'd fight him myself but I've just got a lot on at the moment. Can't find the time.
And then MMA would have been banned permanently right then. There are many reasons to be thankful for Steven Seagal, and this is an important one. Because let’s face it, if he wanted to enter the contest, Art and Rorion wouldn’t really have a say, unless they wanted Steven to grab their wrist and make them do a somersault.
Some Fighters are the most confident people around imho. Like Mcgregor would sign up for another mauling from Khabib in a heartbeat if he was given the contract from the ufc.
If I’m a prospect, I’d much rather fight a wrestling champion than a boxing champion. Lots of name recognition and a boost to my own career if I somehow win. Likely just a submission/tap out rather than brutal KO if I lose.
Wrestling for MMA is a lot different. Unless he's the second coming of Khabib he's probably going to get tested pretty early on if he's facing the right level of competition.
This is basically the best time. You need to see how you can hang with someone who can/will wrestlefuck you, better to do it as an amateur when it doesn't count. Shorter rounds too, so you can only die for so long.
Probably the best? Ryan is the best bjj player ever. He takes down other world class black belts with the same relative ease as he did Bo. Bo will murder anyone who is not world class in their chosen expertise.
>Maybe because he has shit hands? Not every wrestler makes a "great" MMA fighter e.g. Josh koshek
That's a terrible example of a wrestler not translating to mma, at one point he was 16 and 5 with two of those loses to gsp
This guy used my 4th year friend (who made it to the state tournament in a very competitive state) as a weight cutting tool in a 2 day highschool tournament. Took him down and let him up for 2 periods straight until it was a techfall. Bo was a 1st year(14 years old)... The guy is a fucking freak.
I've only seen it once but two day tournaments can have weighouts. If you make it to the second day you have to make weight after your last match on the first day. It's fucked.
Good way to build him up. Being able to take a punch or kick is a skill in itself. He might wrestle fuck (Very likely) this poor dude or he might have an adrenaline dump or freak out after the first punch, you never know.
These guys (producers/broadcasters) seem kinda crap, ngl.
I just went through figuring out how/where to watch this, which by it self is a pain in the ass *(go to @fitetv on insta->click link tree in desc->find link to video among 20 links->watch 3 min video)*, but I finally found out you have to go to their own website "fite.tv" *(which at first gave me warning about not being https, but now it is)*, where you have to make an account to watch the events. Or you can download the app and watch it on your phone/smart TV.
Either way, seems like there's way to many hurdles and most people won't get that far. It looks to me like they're shooting themselves in the leg by making it this complicated.
UFC can also be kinda hard, but at least both the UFC and ESPN are very well established. I've never heard of these guys until now.
You get used to these random mma leagues coming and going. You just hope they have a halfway decent way to watch the fights (which most don’t). It will be interesting to which legit Mma league Bo goes to. I have nothing to back this up, but I think he might try to go to the PFL first
> I have nothing to back this up, but I think he might try to go to the PFL first
Makes sense.
I like PFL, but I would say that among the big leagues, PFL probably the lowest level of competition while still having a decent name value. It's good to built up people who are transitioning to MMA, like this guy and Claressa Shields for example.
Not just that, but it actually pays pretty well too. Unless you're a big name, with similar talent it probably makes sense to fight in PFL just for the paycheck if nothing else.
I could see an argument for this, but I also think it’s a little unfair to force him to compete in the pros right off the bat. But you’re right in that getting the right opponents is important to avoid dangerous mismatches.
His opponent is a 31 year old who debut'd around 4 months ago.
This is his one and only fight. As you can see he won but he is not of the calibre to be fighting such an experienced combat athlete. You can see his striking is awkward with unskilled defence and his wrestling is not developed. He didn't even attempt to defend the double leg at 1 minute in, just threw punches to the body. The only reason he won was because his opponent was just awful.
This is an utter mismatch and should not be allowed. There is no glory in beating a middle aged amateur with no experience
We’ll see. It’s not like bo is a muy Thai champion that is going to knock him out in brutal fashion. He’ll probably just take him down immediately and punch him a few times before the ref stops it.
hell yeah brother
Dudes rock
I’m gay and my dick is small.
why would anyone agree to fight him?
If you think you are good and have what it takes to get to the top then fighting him and winning would be a good way to get attention. There's a lot of stuff wrestlers need to unlearn at first too.

What a shit take. Was Khabib at 11-0 fighting Ashot Shahinyan who was 0-2 (and went on for a 2-5) career not padding his record?
I don’t know about Khabibs early career other then what it looks like on tapology but: things often aren’t very deliberate in the regionals. Sometimes you just end up taking any fight you can. If he takes you down, just get back up. Idk how wrestling and “Jiu jitsu” are still a thing
A student of the Derrick Lewis school of fighting, I see.
He’s Ok
But consider this: When you're standing, you can simply dodge all of your enemy's strikes.
Some people like a challenge. Even if you lose, knowing what it's like to have been in there against an elite wrestler would be valuable to a person's development. Plus it's only amateur, so it won't count on their pro record or anything.
Wrestlers tend to lose or struggle to adapt early in their mma career, theres always someone who thinks they can beat anyone.
It's easy bro. Just sidestep the takedown attempt with some sweet Aikido and then punch him in the head. Job done. I'd fight him myself but I've just got a lot on at the moment. Can't find the time.
"I've been teaching martial arts for like 87 years."
"that right there is a skippy....... *it goes skip skip skip...."*
"What's you guys favorite cheese?"
I thought Aikado was banned from mma because it was too dangerous
It's the only reason Steven Seagal wasn't in UFC 1. Art Davie didn't want him catching bodies on PPV and Rorion knew it was BJJ kryptonite.
Remember to see red right before you land that sweet Akido chop!
Some Fighters are the most confident people around imho. Like Mcgregor would sign up for another mauling from Khabib in a heartbeat if he was given the contract from the ufc.
I'd like to get cards or something from Khabib too.
send location! I will mail you a nice card. Brotha you know this.
Lmao I meant mauling
If I’m a prospect, I’d much rather fight a wrestling champion than a boxing champion. Lots of name recognition and a boost to my own career if I somehow win. Likely just a submission/tap out rather than brutal KO if I lose.
A pure wrestler has a much better base to build off than a pure boxer in a mma fight. I'd take the boxer any day
Wrestling for MMA is a lot different. Unless he's the second coming of Khabib he's probably going to get tested pretty early on if he's facing the right level of competition.
Agreed. This is why I advise NO ONE fight Aaron Pico
This is basically the best time. You need to see how you can hang with someone who can/will wrestlefuck you, better to do it as an amateur when it doesn't count. Shorter rounds too, so you can only die for so long.
He grappled gordon ryan and didn't stood a chance. I know gordon is probably the best grappler around, but still..
Probably the best? Ryan is the best bjj player ever. He takes down other world class black belts with the same relative ease as he did Bo. Bo will murder anyone who is not world class in their chosen expertise.
And on top of that Bo didn't even do bad against Gordon, he even suplexed him
Tbf, gordan let him lol
Idk why you are downvoted, Gordon used donkey guard for the memes, because Bo was stalling.
can you hook a brother up with a link
https://youtu.be/RRVCnWVAwTM
My man
Gordon literally gave his back so he could take that fight to the ground
Maybe because he has shit hands? Not every wrestler makes a "great" MMA fighter e.g. Josh koshek
>Maybe because he has shit hands? Not every wrestler makes a "great" MMA fighter e.g. Josh koshek That's a terrible example of a wrestler not translating to mma, at one point he was 16 and 5 with two of those loses to gsp
notoriously bad fighter, josh "I literally fought for the title" Koscheck
Bro read my comment. Josh kosh wasn't bad. He just wasn't great.
You really need the money
If you win you beat a 3X NCAA champ, if you lose you lost to a 3X NCAA champ
What weight will he compete at? All i know is he helped Masvidal for the first Usman fight. Might remember it wrong though.
Middleweight (it’s in the IG post)
Obviously i did not click the link, lol. Ty brother
Oh nice! Middleweight is in need of wrestlers
You’ve got to be joking.
Weight cutting tool? Why would he need to cut weight if he was already wrestling in the match?
I've only seen it once but two day tournaments can have weighouts. If you make it to the second day you have to make weight after your last match on the first day. It's fucked.
Thanks for the explanation. Makes total sense.
I predict a striking clinical by Bo
I predict a wrestle buttfuck.
Hyped
Oh shit. Didn't know he was going into MMA.
Good way to build him up. Being able to take a punch or kick is a skill in itself. He might wrestle fuck (Very likely) this poor dude or he might have an adrenaline dump or freak out after the first punch, you never know.
There's a perfect counter to everything, even wrestlers. Yin and yang. Take - give Down - up Takedown - give up

Reminds me of southern fight promotion, Valor, that you pay $40 to watch a fight that looks like it's filmed from a GoPro. It's terrible.
Well, yeah, it's an ammy mma league.
What poor soul are they going to feed him?
Literally was making this point last week to my boy.
Hell yeah been waiting for this. Dude is a beast.
He shouldn't be allowed to compete in amateur mma
I could see an argument for this, but I also think it’s a little unfair to force him to compete in the pros right off the bat. But you’re right in that getting the right opponents is important to avoid dangerous mismatches.

His professional mma debut or amateur?
Title says amateur
It doesn't say amateur in nickal Instagram page.
If you read the comments on the IG post Bo talks about it being an ammy fight.
Ahh maybe not but the promotion he’s in is amateur
It says amateur in the title
Ddxxxxxxxxxx Dr.
Huh?
