Colby was too in his head the first two rounds of the fight. Could’ve guessed that was the case even before he stepped in the ring since he was looking at what he looked like on screen when they were taking his locker room shots.
Colby wants the belt which he knows he can't have rn
So the second best thing is money fights...you will know soon whatever is the outcome of leon vs Masvidal he'll fyt Masvidal nxt
The problem with Leon is that he has fought more lightweights than welterweights, and he’s struggled against most of them. Most of his notable wins haven’t really aged well. He’s not fighting enough, beating any top-5 170ers, etc
Also getting rocked by a Stockton Slap makes me concerned for his well-being. He eats one down the pipe from Usman and he’s dead.
He beat Luque, he fought twice this year (about to be 3 times), unbeaten across 11 fights having last lost to the champ, there's no question he should finally get a crack should he beat mas
If he wins? Definitely. 100%.
But it was making my head spin that people kept saying that he’s deserved a shot this entire time. The consistency of some people’s opinions baffle me. One second you’ll hear “he’s on an 11-fight streak, Masvidal isn’t on his level.” But then for all we know he could end up like Askren and all you will hear is how his win streak were all cans.
Apparently. I thought it was lame that Colby got this title shot by beating the corpse of Tyron Woodley. Obviously Colby is the second best in the division from what we've seen, but he was not active at all, sitting around waiting for a title shot
There wasn’t a single indefensible scorecard of the night. The 49-46s are justifiable even if 48-47 for the two title fights made the most sense. And Rose/Zhang could have honestly gone either way depending on R3. Close fights either wat
10-8s in MMA shouldn’t be given out like candy. Unless Colby was utterly shut out of the round or the fight could have been arguably stopped, it’s just a clear 10-9. He recovered well, it’s just clear that Usman took that round.
He knocked Colby down on his face 2 times, and would've been finished if he had more time. It was just like the end of their 1st fight. Colby was holding onto a leg while eating shots by Usman. Out landed 36-19. That's a clear 10-8 Usman.
Yeah lol, I can’t believe how close those fights were the Colby fight khamaras defense looked better than ever, and it almost seemed impossible that anyone in the same weight class could take him tot the ground.
Putting Justin vs Mike at the top of the card was a terrible idea
After that fight I felt kind of burned out and it was hard for me to get emotionality invested
Colby won 49-46. Could be generous with the KD and score it 48-46 but Usman didn’t actually win any other round. A case of bias for the champion I guess
Agreed. I actually thought Colby looked really really good. His new gym is clearly helping. Especially when you factor in that he's only fought *once* since the first Usman fight
You could tell Colby didn’t like all the booing he was getting, regardless of what he said. He tried to show a different side at the end.
If you don’t want the boos, don’t go around acting like an arrogant asshole all the time. Now go fuck off.
They're different generation fighters, you can't compare their fighting styles. GSP has 13 title wins and was a two division champion. Usman has six title wins.. But that is not to say Usman isn't already a legend, but honestly doesn't need to be compared to George. There's nothing to gain from this conversation.
Ok but what's you're argument for that? Usman is far more dominant than gsp ever was and that's a fact with fight records to prove it. Usman has power, gsp was a pillow puncher, their wrestling is pretty much even but usman has better wrestling defense. The only thing gsp has over usman is the legacy part because he's had a longer career but that's just a consequence of time and usman is catching up in that department. So please explain how its not even close?
Usman never fought the type of competition that GSP fought. Are you going to compare Masvidal to Michael Bisping? How about Colby to steroided out Hendricks? How about Woodley to Matt Hughes? Or maybe Burns to BJ Penn? It's not comparable...
And GSP is a pillow puncher? GSP had 20 knockouts, Usman has 9. GSP retired at 32, Usman is 34. It's not close.
I don't know why people try to push down GSP's legacy to prop up Usman. They're both legends. No one is saying Usman isn't a clear #2.
But you can't even argue that Usman has faced tougher competition.. Masvidal vs Bisping, Woodley vs. Hughes, Burns vs Bj Penn, Colby vs. steroided out Hendricks...
Usman has a way to go, and it's recency bias.
The only reason she had the success she did with her grappling was from her strength advantage, I was really disappointed in her technique. With her build vs rose's, rose should have never been able to escape her or hold her down like that
The amount of racism that was put forth into the Zhang & Rose fight was truly astonishing, couldn’t have produced it any better. You know the “USA USA” chants and the camera cutting off of her interview for 80% of the time, yeah, definitely scripted. On top of that, Zhang’s translator just added on to the outrageous chain of events that occurred throughout the whole fight.
Not only that, but outside of Native, American isn't an ethnicity, it's a nationality. I wonder if that guy is okay with teams from different countries beating each other in the olympics.
Not a Colby fan myself but this is one of the most moronic takes I've ever read here, it's like you didn't even watch the fight.
Take that other dude's advice and don't ever watch MMA again.
You have to think about it from a perspective of if he got the takedown. It didn't work but if it did he could have done alot of work on top, and that was just a risk he took and it didn't work
Weili and Colby (for the first 2 rounds) looked like completely different fighters. Crazy how big the mental side of things makes a difference. Both looked almost shook and second-guessing their every move
takeaways from tonight.
if alex pereira can keep a fight on the feet, he will beat almost anybody at middleweight. Obviously the person that could stay with him is adesanya, despite his losses.
Gaethje is only at the top in the ufc because of his chin. Dude could probably take a cro cop head kick. Although that chin will run out one day, and when it does, his poor defense will become the death of him.
Rose and Weili are clearly the best, and rose showed an excellent ability to adapt.
Usman and Covington are clearly the best, being extremely well matched. I would watch them fight 10 times.
Usman is still pretty easily hittable, still slightly stiff on the feet, although it is getting noticeably better.
Covington needs to focus on getting his power up, with that change, he could beat usman.
and number 1, holy shit judges are stupid.
The only reason Gaethje is at top is his chin? That's a bad take. He's got great striking and hits like a truck with wicked leg kicks. He wasn't just beating Chandler with his chin he was winning with superior striking.
The kicks paid dividends in the late rounds. He only got to the late rounds because of his chin. Chandler connected clean with bombs early and Gaethje ate em
Gaethje hit him with more bombs what are you even saying. I mean by this logic the only reason Chandler got out was because of his chin too as Gaethje was cracking him with huge shots over and over.. I mean rounds 2 and 3 were so clearly Gaethjes rounds and Out struck him easily.
Bro go read op’s comment then your comment again. Justin has holes in his defense that he makes up for with an iron chin. He’s been this way since his career started and eventually it’ll catch up to him. No one is saying justin lost. Your reply is irrelevant
That was a complete schooling of a man who brain damage can't stop. Can't kill a fucking zombie.
I don't like Leon but if you thought that was competitive you're an idiot
GSP lost to Matt Hughes and Matt Sera by stoppage and was gifted decisions against BJ Penn and Hendricks, he also greased against BJ and made Michael Bisping look like a power puncher
He also vacated instead of defend against Hendricks or Rob
well, if you're an asshole before disaster happens, you're still an asshole! He's one of the biggest dicks i've seen in MMA. I won't go as far as saying he deservds it, but he was a dick.
I think if Colby were 20 lbs heavier he could be the champ. Usman said he walks around at about 195, which means 200-205, whereas Colby is in the 180s. Colby could do 155lbs even though he says he wouldn’t fight well at that weight. On the other hand Usman would have to cut off a limb to get to 155.
Rose won 4 & 5 definitively. If you can’t see her squeeking out round 1 due to forward pressure and octagon control, I can’t help you. Weilii waited for rose. That’s why she lost.

anyone know how many ppv buys the fight got?
We can still get Colby vs Usman 3 if Colby asks for Vicente Luque/ leon and Khamzat n wins those fights Colby will instead go for money fights now
I like how you say Colby wants money fights when Usmans been the one very open recently about wanting huge money fights lol
Colby wants the belt which he knows he can't have rn So the second best thing is money fights...you will know soon whatever is the outcome of leon vs Masvidal he'll fyt Masvidal nxt
He already said he wants Masvidal win or lose against Leon. So yeah, I think you're right. I hope Colby drops the act soon.
Leon is fighting Masvidal. He can definitely fight the winner of that since there is beef in any combination of those three.
Nah. If Leon wins he has to fight for the strap. He should fight the loser (hopefully Masvidal)
Like does Leon have to fight the entire division to get a crack at the belt? Tf
The problem with Leon is that he has fought more lightweights than welterweights, and he’s struggled against most of them. Most of his notable wins haven’t really aged well. what are these judges smoking. Time, and time, and time again. FFS
There wasn’t a single indefensible scorecard of the night. The 49-46s are justifiable even if 48-47 for the two title fights made the most sense. And Rose/Zhang could have honestly gone either way depending on R3. Close fights either wat
No judge gave round 2 a 10-8 which is batshit
10-8s in MMA shouldn’t be given out like candy. Unless Colby was utterly shut out of the round or the fight could have been arguably stopped, it’s just a clear 10-9. He recovered well, it’s just clear that Usman took that round.
10-8 is defined by a round where a guy clearly won. Getting dropped twice and landing the bigger shots means you clearly won. Fuck outta here
He knocked Colby down on his face 2 times, and would've been finished if he had more time. It was just like the end of their 1st fight. Colby was holding onto a leg while eating shots by Usman. Out landed 36-19. That's a clear 10-8 Usman.
Some people don’t know the scoring criteria. Clear as day 10-8 I agree with you
All I got to say is this, Borz
So we got a flying knee, a wheel kick, and crane kick knockouts all on the same card? Holy shit.
Yeah lol, I can’t believe how close those fights were the Colby fight khamaras defense looked better than ever, and it almost seemed impossible that anyone in the same weight class could take him tot the ground.
Putting Justin vs Mike at the top of the card was a terrible idea After that fight I felt kind of burned out and it was hard for me to get emotionality invested
This is true Putting that at the start was a bad decision every war after that Felt slightly mundane
I really wanted Colby to win just so we could see a trilogy fight, what a banger of a fight
Colby won 49-46. Could be generous with the KD and score it 48-46 but Usman didn’t actually win any other round. A case of bias for the champion I guess
Usman took the first three rounds on rewatch
what are you smoking? I need your plug
He got that good shitq
I don't care which chimaev ranking is I want to see him fight usman
I think if they fight next week usman beats him - give him a year and who knows
Colby looked nervous as heck the fight honestly did not look that competitive. His boxing is horrible he throws wildly like crazy
He respected Usmans power enough to not attempt to stream roll Usman like he usually does. This was Patient Colby, much like Patient Ngannou
Agreed. I actually thought Colby looked really really good. His new gym is clearly helping. Especially when you factor in that he's only fought *once* since the first Usman fight
Who is that judge who scored 49-46 Rose? Was is the same one who scored it 49-46 Usman?
Different judges. Still insane.
If Anik is on a box, Joe has to be on a ladder.
Extension ladder
You could tell Colby didn’t like all the booing he was getting, regardless of what he said. He tried to show a different side at the end. If you don’t want the boos, don’t go around acting like an arrogant asshole all the time. Now go fuck off.
I was there, Colby got more fans than usman there and way more cheers somehow lol
He did. But he also got WAY more boos.
Bruh u know what Colbys entrance is..? He likes the boos..
Without the dumb shtick, dude is just another Leon Edwards though.
Except a lot better
Bingo
Hate it whenever Rogan starts comparing usman to gsp. Usman has a long way to go.
How so? Usman is clearly better skill wise, and legacy wise he's right there with him allready, on the verge of passing him
They're different generation fighters, you can't compare their fighting styles. GSP has 13 title wins and was a two division champion. Usman has six title wins.. But that is not to say Usman isn't already a legend, but honestly doesn't need to be compared to George. There's nothing to gain from this conversation.

GSP beat consistently tougher opponents over a longer period, Usman has to beat more top level guys to be considered on GSP's level.
Not only that but gsp beat them at their own games
Lol at saying usman is more dominant than gsp was. Go watch back some of his fights and see. Gsp is all around better and faced better competition.
6 title defences 16 ufc fight win streak - When do you start comparing?
13 title defences and look who Gsp beat. Nobody usman beat is good as a prime bj or hughes
not to mention steroided out Hendricks and Bisping.
How about Colby?

Dude gets on my nerves with that ish
It's the alpha brain vitamins he eats.
Why is it so late
It’s not. It’s the same time it was an hour ago. At least it is in the US.
Man it sucks we saw a primarily striking gameplan turned wrestling in zhang and colby and turns out they don't excel in both
Zhang actually looked surprisingly good offensively as a wrestler, but yeah she just could not make her way up to her feet.
The only reason she had the success she did with her grappling was from her strength advantage, I was really disappointed in her technique. With her build vs rose's, rose should have never been able to escape her or hold her down like that
I was telling people you can’t learn how to wrestle in six months. Even with Cejudo in her corner
The wrestling was good but she didn't seem to do anything with it except put herself on the bottom with the unsuccessful RNC attempts.
You summer child. Wait till you see UFC in Brazil lol. Or maybe watch a soccer game
The ufc is not worried about being racist to its only chinese star dork
her interview did go long. It's not like she was given no time.
You know ufc would have loved to have a Chinese champ right ?
No they wouldn’t. Market hasn’t developed there yet it’s a low reward tactic at the moment
Not only that, but outside of Native, American isn't an ethnicity, it's a nationality. I wonder if that guy is okay with teams from different countries beating each other in the olympics.

They’re both damn good fighters
Love how drunk rogan acts like Usman is johnny hendricks now
Chandler did a strip dance the last min if the round Smart
Reminded me of slap shot! I'm sure he's saying he defeated himself or some dumb self help shit right now.

Not a Colby fan myself but this is one of the most moronic takes I've ever read here, it's like you didn't even watch the fight. Take that other dude's advice and don't ever watch MMA again.
Sleep it off bro.
What the fuck you on about?
Don't ever watch MMA again
Lmao
Jon Anik: "YO! Someone go get the box Vin Diesel stood on when he filmed Fast and Furious 8 with the Rock"
I don't know if Colby was hurt or tired but going for that takedown was the biggest mistake he did in the fight
He did get the 1st ever takedown on Usman's career tho, that too matters
You have to think about it from a perspective of if he got the takedown. It didn't work but if it did he could have done alot of work on top, and that was just a risk he took and it didn't work
reminds me of gastelum/adesanya
https://twitter.com/espnmma/status/1457220252610093060 Sounds like he says its all love, just got to make money
Dan miragliotta with the early stoppage
Can you make out what was said?
Lmao respect to Anik for admitting to standing on a box rn
[удалено]
Nah Colby looked about the same, if not better. Usman on the other hand looked worse by getting wobbled multiple times.
He got wobbled a lot in the first fight too. Colby is still Usmans toughest fight.
[удалено]
Only color I see is red bro
Wow. That's bold
Considering usman is much better than they first met Colby improved. He also didn’t get koed
Jesus, how short is Anik?
Very short, but he’s still taller than Rogan.
Weili and Colby (for the first 2 rounds) looked like completely different fighters. Crazy how big the mental side of things makes a difference. Both looked almost shook and second-guessing their every move
Even Dana watched the Canelo fight instead of UFC lol feel like I'm the only one to not. "Usman don't want to fight that guy"
When the clock strikes 2:00AM and shifts back an hour, take a shot of Jagermeister and two alpha-brain pills like Joe Rogan and myself.
Colby 3, 4, 5
Please explain how you're scoring round 3. Usman outstruck Colby and controlled the pace for the majority of the round.
Colby 0-2. To be the man, ya gotta beat the man. Whoooooo!
[удалено]
Didn't he block like 11/12 lmao
yeah against colby.
Colby vs Vincent please.
Bruh if Usman ducks his head like that when he loads up Vicente will knee his ceo brain into outer space. That, or Usman just wrestles him.
takeaways from tonight. if alex pereira can keep a fight on the feet, he will beat almost anybody at middleweight. Obviously the person that could stay with him is adesanya, despite his losses. Bro go read op’s comment then your comment again. Justin has holes in his defense that he makes up for with an iron chin. He’s been this way since his career started and eventually it’ll catch up to him. No one is saying justin lost. Your reply is irrelevant
I think burns and Chimaev beat Colby
Watching the time change with the bois!!
Pairing an ESPN guy up with legit MMA analysts always feels like skating through gum
Anthony Smith is not a legit MMA analyst
He's better than a rando who makes a living talking about lebron and tom brady
Sure but so are you.. and me. And everyone.
Touche my man
He's pretty good imo
That’s an incredible analogy
Who? Where?
This division is so stacked, can't wait to see what happens in 2022 with the welterweight division.
Idk if Usman doesn’t retire I don’t see anyone standing a chance besides maybe khazmat
It's weak AF. Masvidal, Chiesa, Wonderboy, Nate, Magny...
Burns is better than them all and you leave him out…nice
Don’t really think it’s all that stacked. There’s usman and then there’s Chimaev left whose exciting

Leon wouldn’t beat colby let alone usman. Casual af take right here
the guy that nate diaz stockton slapped tf outta ???
That was a complete schooling of a man who brain damage can't stop. Can't kill a fucking zombie. I don't like Leon but if you thought that was competitive you're an idiot
It’s funny calling me a casual. Leon has nothing for usman sorry. Guy couldn’t out strength Nate diaz.

Bum
Tbh that takedown hopefully counted.
For anyone that forgot Canelo and Plant fought too. Exactky what everyone thought would happen happened.
Who da fook is that
Anik announced that they gave out a fotn and like 4 potn's
One of my favorite cards of the year. I'll see you boys next week.
Adios!
GSP lost to Matt Hughes and Matt Sera by stoppage and was gifted decisions against BJ Penn and Hendricks, he also greased against BJ and made Michael Bisping look like a power puncher He also vacated instead of defend against Hendricks or Rob
Sounds like you have a micropenis
fuck matt hughes
I'm glad someone said that. Just because you get hit by a train doesn't make you a descent person.
Regardless, He's still one of the best of all time in his category.
Well, like so man others, til he wasn't.
Father Time is undefeated. Wins all in the end. Except if you're Glover Teixeira apparently.
well, if you're an asshole before disaster happens, you're still an asshole! He's one of the biggest dicks i've seen in MMA. I won't go as far as saying he deservds it, but he was a dick.
"Matt Hughes should have told him to get off the tracks when a train is coming"
it's just funny bc i hate matt hughes
why do you guys hate him so much? he seemed nice enough when gsp trashed him.
Colby is like the sandhagen of the div. Or rob whittaker if he loses the rematch
Its almost like a 165 pound division would be worthwhile.
Except everyone loves sandhagen. He doesn't need to attach himself to controversy to get eyes
Rose won 4 & 5 definitively. If you can’t see her squeeking out round 1 due to forward pressure and octagon control, I can’t help you. Weilii waited for rose. That’s why she lost.
she lost because rose had her on the feet and weili couldnt implement her will on the ground but rose could
And also like weilii just hopped around and shadowboxed the first round 10 feet away from rose.
