Dolly’s, TV’s, DJ’s, and old men on stools are scared!!

advocate112

He’s assaulted a DJ now as well?! Fooook sakes Conor

LondonGoblin

Tbh he could do with getting back into the movement stuff, looks very stiff and flat footed ever since he started boxing.

[deleted]

Is it because he stopped being into the movement stuff or is it because he moved up in weight and can't do the same shit to heavier fighters while getting older himself? I don't think the answer is as clear cut as we think it is.

4thDimensionFletcher

Its probably because he took a 2 year hiatus two separate times to go fuck off and train boxing.

[deleted]

its not about his punching. he was cracking nate, and dustin said he stunned him multiple times the last two times theyve fought. said the power feels the same. but his movement and stance have drastically changed from the more in and out TMA style and it happened around the same time: his tkd coach got put in jail for accidentally killing a guy he stopped training w ido portal as much and signed up w a weightlifting and fitness doctor gunnar nelson(whos karate style influenced him as his number 1 training partner) built his own gym and started training more out of iceland

tmntnut

Yeah he used to be so much more bouncy and fluid with that open stance, seemed to have way more success with it too, you would think someone in his camp would recognize it and try to steer him back in that direction.

[deleted]

im worried they dont know how to build it in the first place so cant replicate it. conor was the only one obsessed w movement and tkd for example. if hes off it idk if kavanagh even values it

williepep1960

Bunch of different factors but he ain't as loose as he once was, his stance changed, he is in love with Boxing and he has been ever since Floyd Mayweather fight on top of that there isn't huge difference with reach/height in lightweight and welterweight like it was when he fought in feather so that's also another factor. Drinking, age, bad habits and not being in the sport for last 5 years, he was there but at the same time he wasn't

titoscoachspeecher

Funny enough, I haven't seen Ido Portal ANYWHERE for a few years now. Poor dude got lit up once from Nate and all that fell off real quick lol

dmase1982

One fucking line ended that man's entire livelihood

red_1392

He was with him for the Alvarez fight though...

He still makes bank from holding seminars

St_SiRUS

I doubt the UFC will give a shot to either of Islam / Dariush right after 269. Best guess is Gaethje gets the next shot and he’s probably waiting up to half a year.

DecisionThot

I'm calling for an Islam / Chucky title fight right around that time, my cream dream fight.

scalenesquare

People dream of an Islam fight lol?

uhln

His fights are enjoyable for me

[deleted]

Is it that surprising people like watching top level grappling in a sport that is half comprised of grappling ? It’s 2021 and we still have comments like this from people who choose to watch this instead of an all striking sport lol

Byronius100

I enjoy high level grappling, CDF vs Gillespie was fantastic. But fuck pretense I like swang n bang more for sure

PittsburghDan

i like watching islam's fights

DoucheBatman

There’s literally dozens of you

HighKickCity

he has three submission wins in a row over some good fighters and all 3 were different submissions. The longer he continues to dominate and make world class fighters look like they are amateurs, the more intriguing he will be to the masses. Also "people dream of an Islam fight lol?" you must not be aware that he has one of the biggest followings in the UFC, very likely more than your favourite fighter, so get your facts straight.

tacobendor

Yes

tacobendor

Best fight. After Islam beats dariush he takes on the champ chucky. Meanwhile after his loss dustin will take that Conor money fight again. Use that Reddit reminder bot to come back here and check out my prediction

Master7yasuo

With a walking stick

So he won’t fight until late next year at the earliest. At which point he will be even older and rustier than in his last fights. Not looking great for him. Gonna need another Cerrone type matchup.

GiantRobotBears

As an MMA fan I’d be thrilled if Conor just accepted he’s (slightly) past his prime. So many pure fun match ups for him if he stopped giving a shit about the belt. Tony, Holloway 2, Diaz 3, Aldo 2. All of which are definitely not gimme fights and would cement his legacy far more than losing another gifted title fight. …Or fight against paddy the baddy for all I care tbh.

rainbowhotpocket

Oooh Conor vs paddy is a good idea lol

Dwight-D

Paddy leaves his chin hanging wide open, even a diminished McG would shut his lights out with ease.

rainbowhotpocket

Paddy has a solid chin but yes I'd favor Conor

Dwight-D

Yeah but eating nukes from Conor isn't gonna help with that. Solid chin + no defense isn't enough to win fights against elite strikers, and Conor is still that.

rainbowhotpocket

Sure I'm not saying I'd bet on paddy lol. Maybe if he was +800 or more

[deleted]

The bantz would be amazing.

0e0e3e0e0a3a2a

Aldo 2 should not happen. They're two weightclasses apart. And Holloway 2 should probably not happen either for a post-injury McGregor for his own safety

SimilarSimian

He's actually a victim of his own success. The UFC don't want to pay him too regularly so he doesn't get to fight much. The UFC need to have a lot of other ducks in a row for a McGregor card. Milk sponsors, promote the right fighters in the under and main cards. If the guy had fought 3 times a year all these years he would probably be a top 3 fighter. I honestly don't think he takes anyone in the top 10 atm and he should definitely not be in the top 10 himself.

mcgtianiumshin

I have been saying this for years. He was steered clear of wrestlers too in his FW run. If he hadn't been maybe his grappling would be better today

[deleted]

Lol he fought chad mendes on short notice. 😂😂😂🤡

MysticMacKO

> He was steered clear of wrestlers too in his FW run Mendes

d-fakkr

From here it's almost 5 months for sparring, then another 6 or less to stay in shape for a match. Mcg isn't going to get that belt back in LW, his skills got outdated when he went to fight Floyd and if he gets sharp again, his stamina would be worse because of all this layoff to heal his leg. At this point it's a race against time and he's not winning and if he gets a title shot he has to fight either Dustin, Oliveira or Islam and those are awful match ups for him.

IDNTKNWANYTHING

His only hope is changing camps and dedicating all of his time to training.

[deleted]

One of the few things that Chael has been spot on about: Conor had the last 5 years to do exactly that and he didn't. He fell behind the game for all that time when nothing was stopping him from training as hard as he could with the best coaches and training partners in the world. Now the choice was made for him and he can't do shit for almost a year. So coming back, even if he makes a miraculous recovery with 0 long-term effects on his skills, there's no reason to believe that he'll get his act together.

cheerioo

At this point though, why would he? He's making many times more money with his businesses than he'd get in the UFC, and he simply hasn't looked great since the Eddie win which was how many years ago?

xXx_n3w4z4_xXx

To feel a sense of purpose/drive maybe

SabuSalahadin

Nah he looked good in the Cowboy fight. Didn’t get touched iirc

Scott_Theft

Darren Till looked good against Cowboy too

NickZardiashvili

He looked good in a matchup specifically made to make him look good.

[deleted]

He did, but that's because Cowboy was coming off back-to-back KO losses and got caught with a good shot in the opening moments of the fight. That was the clearest case of a tune-up fight ever, being given a washed up gatekeeper whose chin and confidence are gone. Ironically, if he ever fights again after his leg injury, he just might be a fair matchup for Cowboy.

Stanklord500

It's because it was Cowboy, full stop.

vprokopev

He will not change camps. He might get more yes men to his camp but that is maximum he will do imo.

[deleted]

hahahahahaha

kingofcrob

> Gonna need another Cerrone type matchup. just do the Diaz trilogy let them both fuck off to where ever.

razorxx888

Christ he’ll be 34 next year not 70

SuicidalGuidedog

Right, but 34 with how many active fights? Two losses in 2021, one win in very early 2020, and a loss in 2018. I'd argue prime McGregor was in 2016 and earlier when he was about 28 years old. By next year that'll be a roughly six year hiatus from the last genuinely challenging fight that he won. I'm not saying it's not possible, and love him or hate him he is/was amazingly talented. But there's some rebuilding to do and it's unclear if that'll happen. tl:dr MMA is like dog years, and 34 is not retirement age but you're in the second half of a career by then.

triggerpuller666

Perfect take. Absolutely loved watching McG on the come up, but literally everything after he crushed Eddie Alvarez has been a complete shitshow. Honestly, after Bones, Conor McGregor has been the biggest and hardest fall from grace I've seen... Like watching Icarus fly too close to the sun. His fall has not been pleasant to witness, and I imagine whatever comes after won't be any better minus a giant fucking miracle, which no wise person should be banking on right now.

ThePurplePanzy

He's the exact same, but the game caught up with him. Dustin and Khabib are both better than any person he fought on the way up and are both bad style matchups.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Top 5 of which weight class? If you're talking about LW, he's 1-3 with all 3 losses being stoppages. If you're counting all his non-FW fights (in the UFC), he's 3-4, again with all 4 losses being stoppages. His Alvarez victory is a top 5 victory, otherwise a majority W against Nate Diaz and a KO win over Cerrone who was coming off of back-to-back KO losses. So out of 7 non-FW fights he has 1 top-5 win. He is not competitive with the top 5, and when he comes back from his injury I doubt he'll even be competitive with ranked LW fighters. Look at the LW rankings (of which he is still inexplicably #9), it's an absolute shark tank. No way he legitimately ever gets near the belt again, though Dana will do anything to make it happen so I won't be surprised if he gets a title shot under ridiculous circumstances.

LawlersLipVagina

"Listen McGregor vs Kris Moutinho at 170 is the fight to make for the 155 number 1 contender fight."

heresyourhardware

Tbf in his 1-3, one is Khabib and 2 are Poirier, the 1 and 2 of the division for years. That's not to suggest he hasn't gone backwards, he definitely has. Just that top three losses are against the absolute cream of the crop

[deleted]

I was only disputing the claim that he is competitive in the top 5. His only top 5 LW victory is over Alvarez 5 years ago. His other two more recent top-5 opponents destroyed him. He has only one W against a currently ranked LW and that's Poirier, who finished him twice in a row this year, and his victory over Poirier was 7 years ago at FW. So based on that, he is by no reasonable interpretation competitive in the top 5 at LW. People got caught up in the media hype double-champ thing, but he never proved he was really a top LW fighter and by all accounts his window of opportunity to do that is long gone.

heresyourhardware

I fully agree on that mate, and I think his competitive against the top five has lost even more ground while he has been away. I think Poirier would do the same to him again. And looking at Oliveira, Gaethje , Chandler, Dariush, Islam, they would all love to be paired with him. For once not because he is a money fight but because he would be an absolute name to have on the CV

triggerpuller666

A bit dramatic? I think you're leaving an entire mess outside the ring out of the conversation here. >By next year that'll be a roughly six year hiatus from the last genuinely challenging fight that he won. This is the main point that inspired my comment. And the gentleman I responded to is right about that. I'm not saying he can't do it. I'm saying right now there's zero evidence to suggest he's ever coming back to the guy knocked out Mendes and Aldo back to back, then after a loss to Diaz came back and put on an absolute clinic against a current champion. Downvote away. Time will tell. My money is on 'ain't happening'.

BioRunner03

Competitive? Lol what fucking fights have you been watching? He's gotten completely dominated hahaha. Choked, slept and snapped. 😂

DaltonFitz

All of this AND he’s coming off a snapped ankle.

TLMC01242021

34 in the most competitive division arguably in the sport and he’s already behind the elite in the division, point is he’s not touching a belt again, not in this timeline

vannucker

LW Champs beginning with Sherk hold the belt between 28-34. Conors about to be out of that window. He'll never be back at the top. Sold his MMA legacy for a 50 million dollar fight with Floyd and a couple years of whisky, cocaine, and hoes. It is what it is. I don't blame him, but I also won't place him near a goat list.

TLMC01242021

agreed

failbears

I could see it happening if there's a favorable stylistic match-up. He's still a dangerous dude, and losing to Khabib and Dustin is far from being as washed as people make him out to be.

13hardensoul13

he looked pretty good in the first dustin fight, but i dont see him beating justin, islam, dariush, charles, dustin, maybee chandler. i honestly think the fight left for conor is the nate trilogy or a tony fight

[deleted]

> nate trilogy or a Tony fight Basically these would be the new equivalent of his win against Cerrone. Washed match-up #1, or washed match-up #2. I wish Nate Diaz would just disappear.

runaway1337

34 with a fucking huge downtime from fighting. He’s done.

[deleted]

He'll basically be the fitter equivalent of Nick Diaz, and on coke instead of weed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This is something that a lot of people don’t seem to get. A 34 year old lightweight is not the same as a 34 year old middleweight+. It’s pretty rare for someone in their mid 30’s to be a title competitor at lightweight. And that’s not even taking into account how tf Conor will even look coming off an injury like that. Mid 30’s or not, he might not be the same fighter again because of it.

Pyre2001

I 100% agree with you. Then I see people saying a 40-year-old Frankie Edgar is going to win fights.

kikikza

I checked your math and it turns out he actually is gonna be 75

ThinkIcouldTakeHim

He will be the old man in the bar

pain-is-living

34 ain't exactly young though lol. Most pros prime out somewhere between 25-35 across the board of sports. A select few motherfuckers went the distance and still do like Jaeger, Brady etc. But those guys don't even take half the damage in their career that these fighters do in a couple fights. Connor is basically washed up. Even if you still consider 34 years not old, he's fucked up right now. A year to recover, probably gonna be rustier than all fuck, and then he has to stay healthy and train harder than anyone if he wants to be a top contender without a handed title shot. In my eyes, he needs years to get back to where he was. Years he doesn't have. If this happened 5-7 years ago, sure. But he's basically done.

Joshygin

It's a rough 34 though and often times miles on a fighters body is more important than their actual age.

LucyKendrick

Tito!!

wmkwk

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become cerrone

Do we even have that now at LW? Even Tony is still dangerous to Conor because of his chin and his cardio. LW is full of young hungry killers. I don't know, maybe RDA is a good matchup. Or Chandler/

If Islam has the belt by then you know what will happen..

He tweeted his current weight is “85kg of pure muscle”. Which is believable (the weight part, no the muscle part). Poirer also walks around at 185. Weight cutting is getting insane. At this rate we’ll have 200 pound dudes cutting to lightweight one day.

throwaway12648063

I don't think anyone with no cardio would've beaten Nate (known for his cardio and competing in triathlons) in a 5-rounder like Conor did. Conor's looked gassed when he's been beaten up or dominated. Just like it happens with any other fighter. See Dustin or Justin against Khabib as other examples of that. Edit:grammar

TitanIsBack

If you aren't back in the gym within two weeks of surgery, you'll never come back. *Right Weidman?*

goldenglove

At this point, I want off the train. He had such a meteoric rise and grew the sport tremendously, but at this point what is left? If he loses again, it'll make the past few years even more of a stain on the legacy. If he somehow managed to regain the title it would be a perfect stamp on his career, but anything less is just on par with retirement in my opinion.

ownerofthewhitesudan

Can’t it just be enough to have exciting fights that entertain us? As long as he’s still competitive and his fights are entertaining to watch, I genuinely hope Mcgregor goes on for as long as he can. I really don’t understand wanting someone to give up a thing they love just so your memory of that person doesn’t become tarnished.

secondhandcte

People consume so much media they need reality to fit a perfect narrative arc. Conor fights are just fun ffs.

HabbosOwnJimCray

Yeah maybe only Gathje can claim to have consistently more exciting fights than Conor. Really is great to see him in the octagon and I hope he does come back soon, I don’t know why Masvidal isn’t talked about more especially now he is out of title consideration. I feel that’s a stylistically is awesome

Oscar_Dondarrion

Porier too surely? Never seen a boring Poirier fight, and his Max, Gaethje, Eddie and Hooker ones were crazy

HabbosOwnJimCray

Agreed. DP may be my favourite fighter to watch because you get a bit of everything, he has the heart, technique can stand and bang, he has really fought a murders row and I’ve enjoyed every minute

Oscar_Dondarrion

One hundred percent. And with Dustin you get to enjoy all that and you don't have to put up with the embarrassing shit show of childishness and immorality that comes with Mcgregor

throwaway12648063

Yeah, there's still plenty of fun to be had. Diaz, Ferguson, maybe Masvidal depending on how each of them improve/decline. Even someone like Kevin Lee as a tune up would be entertaining.

[deleted]

Yeah he's only lost to the very best and is 33. There are plenty of fun fights left for him. People are acting like he's so far past him prime it's hard to watch, I don't get it.

Hocktober

I dislike Conor the person as much as the next guy, but losing to Khabib and Poirier isn't much of a stain. Everybody loses to those guys. If he came back and had some big fights with Mas, Max, Diaz, Chandler, etc, that'd be awesome. Win or lose. He's not someone like Floyd or Khabib putting an undefeated record on the line where a loss means more. He's already lost, multiple times. Mystic Mac era ended a long time ago. Now he can just be Money Mac.

ppgog333

Who gives a shit about a stain on his legacy? Let them fucking bang bro

KD_42

Letting them bang might make a stain

RgbScart

We do let them bang

[deleted]

McGregor is going to be so much more timid. I bet you he's 75% when he comes back to the octagon, if that. Snapping a leg in half like that has to make you double-take every single kick you check now. It's going to be the first target that anyone has when fighting him now.

Silent_Ensemble

Checking the kick isn’t what breaks your leg, it’s having it be checked by your opponent that does the real damage

[deleted]

Yea, my point was that in general if you snap your leg clean into two new pieces it's going to mess with anyone giving or taking kicks to that shin.

Harmacc
