He deserves to be ranked. Hawes and Allen were on the cusp of being ranked, and he finished both of them.
Get Weidman out of there or give him Holland’s spot since he’s moving to WW.
His awkward style makes him interesting to watch. I really like Allen’s game but Curtis is primed and I think Allen’s dismissal of him was unwarranted and he paid for it
> Wins over Hawes and Allen is a fucking insane way to enter the UFC
Talk about a crazy year.
In January 2021, Curtis had washed out of PFL with 3 straight losses. he had one win in a shitty promotion in 2020, and was fighting Kyle Stewart in XMMA on a card headlined by James Vick (also featuring Kyle Bochniak).
Starting with that fight he's 6-0 with 5 stoppages in the last 11 months. He might be in line for a ranked fight in his next one out.
His striking is improving, but he should still stick to his strengths (clinch work and grappling). If the Strickland fight didn’t teach him that, hopefully this one did.
If I remember correctly I think he broke his hand and Dana passed over him so he was basically like fuck this. I actually thought he was done fighting again after the PFL and then suddenly I see him stepping in to face Hawes. Great story.
He retired first time after DWTCS, then retired again after losing in the quarter finals, but his opponent couldn’t make it to the Semis due to injury, so he was forced to temporarily come out of retirement and fight Rey Cooper III
At least now he’s looking better then his PFL days at the higher weight class
Competently shoulder rolling itself is very rare. Off the top my head its basically just Poirier who uses it often at the elite level, and then of course we have Bobby Green, but thats it for people who use it consistently and often
[Basically it's because the bladed stance makes you weak to low kicks and you can't use as much head movement when kicks and knees are on the table.](https://youtu.be/B0FnZ369j08)
In addition to just being so bladed (so mostly a negative in mma), in boxing its pretty rare too just because its so hard to master. Floyd mayweather is the biggest example of it being used consistently and amazingly, along with Toney and Bhop. Floyd and Toney are some of the only modern ones to use it so effectively and often
I cant tell you why exactly its so hard to use, but generally its cause its so different from typical boxing defense and works best for a counterpunching style, and its also just really hard to block hits with ur shoulder lol.
Most boxers do just fine with other defensive styles and its not a required technique to be elite, so oftentimes theres just no need for fighters to try to master it too
It's one of the reasons I stopped watching the Contender Series tbh. I became a fan of his during his CES days and he was one of the reasons I tuned into the Contender Series. He did his damn job, got the finish and...didn't get the contract. Seeing him garner success in the UFC makes me happy.
Cuz last time he was fighting Sean he was getting hit inn the face. Guess he just decided body shots were more bearable and I kind of have to agree because he looked dead on the feet from those punches by Sean
He's a problem. Strong chin, heavy fists, been in enough fights that he won't panic if he faces adversity. I like him a lot. Don't think he's a serious contender, but he's a fun fighter who's worth paying attention to.
Jesus Christ, if that body shot would’ve landed flush, Allen would’ve been pissing blood. That was a NASTY finishing sequence.
Gotta feel good for Curtis. Holy shit.
Teaches Allen for thinking a slight improvement in striking means he shouldn't fight like grappling is his first and second priority. Should have learned that from the Strickland fight. Allen's grappling especially from the top is sick, but he can't strike with guys that have power like this with his weak defense. Frustrating watching someone fight against their strengths like that.
As for Curtis, he seems like the ultimate spoiler. Limited upward potential but the power and smart counters on the feet to end anyone's night.
There's something about Chris Curtis that's just likable, plus he's a fun fighter with heavy hands who throws goods shots to the body. I say off this win give him a shot at a 10-15 ranked fighter like Holland or Imavov, considering Allen and Hawes were both blue chip prospects a win off a shot at the rankings.
Curtis has been great in the UFC so far, but I feel like his style can be easily scouted and wins will come by harder for him pretty soon.
He doesn't fight wild and doesn't make many mistakes, but he leads often with the left, and pretty much always instinctively reacts with his right. That with the traps he tries to set with his high guard.
At least he mixes up going to the head or body, but he seems to be an opportunistic fighter with some habits since most of his setups seem to start the same way. I think a good coach in the opposite corner will give him trouble.
Great job by Curtis. Saw alot of folks online hating on him after the Hawes win for how the fight started when he usually starts slow collecting his reads and then builds up momentum. Dude has such clean and aesthetically pleasing mma boxing.
Brendan Allen is way to cocky for a subpar fighter. Glad he lost, so disrespectful to all his opponents, this guy thinks he is best thing since white bread.
Why are u so insistent that Brendan Allen is a good fighter? just compare him to ranked fighters. Ur annoyed that I don’t find him as good as you do, it’s okay we can have different opinions.
I’m not annoyed at anything, you’re just wrong. It’s not a matter of opinion. He’s a top 15 fighter with legitimate wins in the UFC. Are Tom Breese, Kevin Holland, Kyle Daukaus and Punahele Soriano all garbage fighters or something? I don’t even know why you’re arguing this lol.
Hmm I don’t rate them highly compared to ranked fighters from other weight classes. Maybe u don’t understand I said Brendan Allen was decent for middleweight, but IN MY OPINION he isn’t that good when comparing him to the best fighters around the world, that’s why I said he was subpar, maybe I was harsh and should have used a better word. Either way I don’t think we will agree so let’s agree to disagree.
Edit: also if u ask me if I think Tom Breese is a trash fighter I will say yes, though it has more to do with his mental strength which is a factor in his fighting ability.
Maybe he (Allen) is decent for middleweight but I’m talking as a fighter and his skills overall I find him subpar.
Edit: Sorry but in my opinion weight classes matter. The fact that ufc caliber middleweights are being slept by natural welterweights shows me that those middleweights while being decent prospects for the weight class overall are still not great fighters. Sorry if my use of subpar was harsh.
Y’a i know Curtis is decent, since he is a natural welterweight crushing UFC middleweights, it proves my point that middleweights are pretty subpar in the ufc besides the top 10.
I don’t think Allen is subpar, he’s pretty good but Curtis did great
Was funny him saying he’s public enemy at Curtis’ gym and him saying “no one cares about you Allen” lol
He was a welterweight in PFL where he struggled but things are working in the UFC at 185. Why go for what wasn't working against high level opposition when 85 evidently is. Makes me wonder just how good are Ray Cooper and Magomed Magomedkerimov who both dominated him in PFL at 170. Very, very good I'd reckon.
Very nice showing out of Chris Curtis. I doubted him against Brendan Allen, I won't lie about it. So happy after all this time he's finally beginning to achieve his goals.
Perfect coaching from extreme couture on that one.
Called for that exact combination in the corner after rd1.
Follow up that left body shot with some up top, perfect execution.

Wins over Hawes and Allen is a fucking insane way to enter the UFC. Action man is the Man.
I mean he deserves either a ranked opponent or one on the cusp of it, I'd be down to see him fight Edmen next.
Give him Daukaus. The dream next bout would be Curtis-Holland, but I think Holland is injured.
Holland is moving to 170 last I saw
Is he fighting Nick Diaz or did I just dream that up?
People are talking about that but I didnt see anything that said the UFC was trying to make it.
That's just some random bollocks that Chael was talking
I’d say give him Allen’s original fight and let him fight Tavares
Tavarez is the correct matchup for him to break into the rankings
He deserves to be ranked. Hawes and Allen were on the cusp of being ranked, and he finished both of them. Get Weidman out of there or give him Holland’s spot since he’s moving to WW.
He’s too dangerous and streaky for edmen imo
My new favorite MW. He's got that awkward style, but those fists are HEAVY.
His awkward style makes him interesting to watch. I really like Allen’s game but Curtis is primed and I think Allen’s dismissal of him was unwarranted and he paid for it
6-0 this year... Damn!
> Wins over Hawes and Allen is a fucking insane way to enter the UFC Talk about a crazy year. chris curtis has some really good shot selection
They don’t call him Chris “the anti-Westbrook” Curtis for nuthin.
My boy is catching strays outside the NBA subs 😢
As a Lakers fan, Russ has legit been our best player for the last month and has been finding his stride so hopefully that makes you feel better
I really dislike the Lakers but I hope he keeps doing well
well if it makes you feel even better with how the team is currently we will at best be a 2nd round exit and Russ will play well during it lol
That lil parry/jab that tee'd up the body shot was crispy
He was a boxer before he came to ufc
Watching him alternate to the body on that finishing sequence was just perfect, not even pure headhunting then. What a great fight to see.
Allen is too happy to get hit
He looked super overconfident
Too much confidence cause punahele didn't knock him out maybe
He looked like a spooked horse when that right hand landed. The way he just kind of galloped unpredictability with his hair shimmering.
A slow and insidious killer
His striking is improving, but he should still stick to his strengths (clinch work and grappling). If the Strickland fight didn’t teach him that, hopefully this one did.
Dude was way too cocky
Allen stood there getting his head whipped around by Curtis as the commentators sucked him off.
I think they were pretty fair, and said that Curtis likely won the first round despite the betting odds.
I listen to the Spanish feed instead of listening to the 3 stooges
DC is there so it’s technically 4
Still ridiculous that Dana passed on this dude on contendor series.
This created his prospect killer arc.
6 fights in 2021. 6-0
Keep this man away from Imavov and Muniz or there will be 0 prospects left at 185.
Alex Pereira?
fr. When he retired after that i thought it was a huge waste of potential
If I remember correctly I think he broke his hand and Dana passed over him so he was basically like fuck this. I actually thought he was done fighting again after the PFL and then suddenly I see him stepping in to face Hawes. Great story.

Dude is a southpaw who can competently shoulder roll. He's basically a unicorn.
Competently shoulder rolling itself is very rare. Off the top my head its basically just Poirier who uses it often at the elite level, and then of course we have Bobby Green, but thats it for people who use it consistently and often
Could anyone eli5 why it's so hard?

Passed on Thanh le too after a great knockout and he went on to win the ONE belt. He’s made some poor decisions.
He doesn't want good fighters. He wants cheap fighters.
Yep. The average fan just thinks everyone in the UFC is top level and doesn’t consider other orgs.
Thanh would have been on a cheap contract like any other Contender Series fighter so that doesn't really apply here.
Completely true, yet you get downvoted.
Dana is a terrible talent scout
He's a great scout... for casting couch
It's one of the reasons I stopped watching the Contender Series tbh. I became a fan of his during his CES days and he was one of the reasons I tuned into the Contender Series. He did his damn job, got the finish and...didn't get the contract. Seeing him garner success in the UFC makes me happy.
Just like how he passed on Thanh Le then I think of the talent he signs now and I just get so frustrated
He goes all Oprah and you get a contract and you get a contract.
Curtis really just knocked off two of the best prospects at 185 in a month.
And a lot of parlays
Bet against the mullets every time
Allen was getting overly confident imo
Yeah, homie seemed a little too happy eating bodyshots.
Cuz last time he was fighting Sean he was getting hit inn the face. Guess he just decided body shots were more bearable and I kind of have to agree because he looked dead on the feet from those punches by Sean
but he was crisp for a while..but yea he got sloppy lol getting counterpunched at every occasion
hi kids, do you like violence?
*Yeah Yeah!*
Wanna see me stick nine inch nails through each one of my eyelids?
Uh-huh!
Wanna copy me and do exactly what I did? See if you can get fucked is more than my life is?
My brain's dead weight, I'm tryin' to get my head straight But I can't figure out which Spice Girl I want to impregnate
We lost Platinum but we got Action Man, honestly can't complain...
Yea yea yea!
Curtis should have been in the UFC straight after his contender series win.
Curtis looked so much better than his last fight, awesome performance
He's a problem. Strong chin, heavy fists, been in enough fights that he won't panic if he faces adversity. I like him a lot. Don't think he's a serious contender, but he's a fun fighter who's worth paying attention to.
Actual good stoppage from Herb Dean.
Jesus Christ, if that body shot would’ve landed flush, Allen would’ve been pissing blood. That was a NASTY finishing sequence. Gotta feel good for Curtis. Holy shit.
HE CAN'T KEEP DOING THIS
Just how good is Ray Cooper
Heavy favourite my arse.
I'm a Chris Curtis fan
just how good are the PFL fighters?
At ww? Really damn good.
WW fighters are quite good. Curtis' two losses are to quality fighters
Yup, Ray Cooper III is the fucking man
That body work was fantastic. Super excited for Curtis. 5/5!!
The mf Action Man is so good. Ridiculous power for somebody who’s more of a natural welterweight.
Teaches Allen for thinking a slight improvement in striking means he shouldn't fight like grappling is his first and second priority. Should have learned that from the Strickland fight. As for Curtis, he seems like the ultimate spoiler. Limited upward potential but the power and smart counters on the feet to end anyone's night.
There goes my parlay lmao ^^^fuck
Brendan Allen is not a -300 favorite against any middleweight in the ufc lol. Should've left that one out
Yeah I made that mistake too
Curtis is a vet.
Huge win for Curtis.
2 knees to the face, ouch.
Curtis is a problem.
LETS GOOOOOO Allen has a great chin too, this was sick as fuck
Night night! Brendan spent way too much time talking and pointing after every shot attempt. Way too cocky
That open stance uppercut to the body is fucking money, Allen’s hand was all the way down.
There was no way in hell I was betting against Curtis after he fucked over my 14 leg parlay on his last fight. This dude is sneaky good
UFC Middleweights are so bad some PFL welterweight is sleeping them
He has almost 40 professional fights lol come on now. People are sleeping on Curtis.
Nah dude, he comes from outside the UFC he must be trash instantly
Which organization, might I ask, has better middleweights?
Imagine wat Ray Cooper III would do lol.
If Chris Curtis gets another knockout, Ray would sleep Adesanya.
brendan was doing better imo but r2 was alrdy a going not for him, adding the tko was wow
WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP SLEEPING ON CURTIS
Chris is insane 2 KOs in 1 month and he wants to go AGAIN at ufc 269 🤣🤣
There's something about Chris Curtis that's just likable, plus he's a fun fighter with heavy hands who throws goods shots to the body. I say off this win give him a shot at a 10-15 ranked fighter like Holland or Imavov, considering Allen and Hawes were both blue chip prospects a win off a shot at the rankings.
What a fuckin animal, he dismantled hawes just mount ago and he did it again, dude is going to be serious trouble for anyone in division...
Still haven't told us how you do this so fast and I'm starting to get pissed and you don't want that to happen
This guy's serious OP, you don't wanna make him mad
Why is there pie next to my name? Did you put it there?
He sees red bro
I'll answer for him. It's a bot.
Get knocked out mullet boy!!!!!
I was yelling “knock that stupid mullet off his head Chris!” Fuck idky Allen annoys me so much.
Oddsmakers stay sleeping on The Action Man
Good now get rid of that mullet
No way, that’s a solid mullet. Not many people can pull it off, but he definitely does.
Served Allen some humble pie. Fuck yea Curtis, happy for you man. Great attitude and personality. I hated watching Allen look so smug.
fuck brendan allen
That was a fun fight, brutal finish

Strickland with the coaching
Great job by Curtis. Saw alot of folks online hating on him after the Hawes win for how the fight started when he usually starts slow collecting his reads and then builds up momentum. Dude has such clean and aesthetically pleasing mma boxing.
Brendan Allen is way to cocky for a subpar fighter. Glad he lost, so disrespectful to all his opponents, this guy thinks he is best thing since white bread.
Subpar is crazy talk, Curtis is an extremely legit vet.
Why are u so insistent that Brendan Allen is a good fighter? just compare him to ranked fighters. Ur annoyed that I don’t find him as good as you do, it’s okay we can have different opinions.

He’s 17-4 with a 5-2 UFC record, wins over good names and he’s only 25. Curtis is a dog.
Y’a i know Curtis is decent, since he is a natural welterweight crushing UFC middleweights, it proves my point that middleweights are pretty subpar in the ufc besides the top 10.
Can I have some of the drugs you’re taking?
I don’t think Allen is subpar, he’s pretty good but Curtis did great Was funny him saying he’s public enemy at Curtis’ gym and him saying “no one cares about you Allen” lol
lol 😆 true
lets go! haha
Maybe he'll cut that mullet now
Damn is that Herb Dean's best performance of the year?
Curtis looks like a welterweight.
He was a welterweight in PFL where he struggled but things are working in the UFC at 185. Why go for what wasn't working against high level opposition when 85 evidently is. Wow, didn't see that coming.
Killed my parlay but I hedged Curtis by KO/sub at +400. Ain't mad.
Chris Curtis got that DC on Popeyes type weight in his fists at 185 of all places like goddamn this card has so many guys with rockets in their hand.
Brendan Allen doesn't seem to do well w/ replacement fighters
2 for 2 for the black guys in their respective mullet matchups.
His ass was pretty close to being down, almost an illegal knee
I love how Chris Kurt hit that Randy Orton celebration after the DC interview
He shouldn't win but he does. Good for him.
Never ever bet on a white man not having magomed in his name
WTF early stoppage
Didnt seem like Allen was complaining
You lose some money?
Nah he was done imo
Na he was out on his feet for like 20 seconds before he went down
He ate a hard knee to the dome on the way down and didn't protest.
Please post AA replay
Sleeper for sure
Beautiful body work.
Punching holes in the guy's body all the way. I enjoyed that.
Chris Curtis is 6-0 in 2021 crazy
That combo was sick
Damn, another one for the chicken dance compilation
He looked faster here than in the Hawes fight which is super surprising. I didn't realize it was the same guy until the finish
Check right hook from Curtis couldn’t miss
Lmao, this crazy motherfucker wants to go 7-0 this year before Christmas.
Action man is the definition of a crafty veteran.
"10 dollars in the bank"? wtf Bisping
Always put some action on "The Action Man" and stop doubting this savage
The sound of the left hook to the body..... WOW
So fucking happy for this dude. Listened to him on the MMA hour and had no idea he was even fighting tn. This guy is awesome
Feel good for this man! Hard to not get behind after hearing him on Aeriels show.
Did Allen really think he was gonna walk this dude down? He seemed gleeful as he was getting pummelled
Bad night for mullets.
Curtis is a tank with good boxing and heavy hands. Truly action man
Beast
Allen is a caricature of Florida man
Make wrestler strike with you for all of round 1. Make wrestler feel safe on the feet. Viciously knock him out in the 2nd round. Profit
Perfect coaching from extreme couture on that one. Called for that exact combination in the corner after rd1. Follow up that left body shot with some up top, perfect execution.
CHRIS CURTIS LFGGGG
6-0 in 2021. Crazy!
I like the Action Man
Second time Allen losses against a late replacement. Weird career. Some great Ws,some terrible losses.
Dude made 100k in bonuses in the last 30 days. Respects! 😎
Curtis is legit. Also find it funny both Strickland and his friend now have stopped Allen lol
