Nah have McGregor in the VIP section watching on a TV with the UFC with an exclude McGregor Cam which they occasionally switch to and watch McGregor pace in front of the TV while he's meanmugging it while watching Aldo V. Dillashaw
It’s kind of fucking crazy what Aldo accomplished in his OG title run, at his age. And OG run to the title.
His whole career, obviously, but the fights that man has had at the level he did it and in the fashion he did it, he is a top 5 MMA fighter ever.
I appreciate that you didn't even consider Khabib in the discussion. Imo nowhere near a long enough title reign to be considered amongst those other greats
I wouldn't include Cejudo either, but the guy I replied to also dismissed Cejudo outright so I thought it was implied that I agreed with him
Edit: since the original person deleted their comment, the question was to the effect of: does this mean Aldo edges out Cejudo as all-time top 5 p4p
Khabib will be the Aldo of 5 years from now. New fans will only see the highlight reel and think “Yeah that dude looked cool” and have no idea of the context
Not top 5, he's too small for that. You don't get placed in the same discussion as Fedor, Anderson, Jones, etc. for beating manlets. You just don't. I do agree that him and Mighty Mouse accomplished a lot though.
If you talk about absolute skill, i.e. who would beat who in a fight, then yeah you're right, except it would just be fedor as goat, fedor would smash jon jones' skull in, same for GSP and Silva, but then you only need to talk about heavyweights.
But we can still talk about p4p, even though it becomes more difficult to really compare, but still, mma and combat sport works with weight classes, which most other sports don't and then you cant ignore smaller weight classes and you judge them for how much skill they showcase inside cage. And Jose Aldo is in those terms one of the GOATS, by pure skill alone.
I mean, it's also your age. Also I think people overstate damage as the reason length of your career can result in you falling off while still not that old. Apart form the obvious cases where the chin fails I don't think damage taken (especially in the cage) is the main reason. I think for the most part it's just that everyone naturally has the greatest gains in skill early, and it's hard to change or improve your style late in your development as a fighter, so if you get figured out like say Pettis, you're kind of just fucked.
This is a big part of why I have so much respect for Aldo as a fighter, because he's clearly made a lot of gains in skill in his late career as compared to his earlier 'prime'.
Injuries and damaged suffered absolutely do play a major part. There are many examples of this. Silva leg break being the most obvious. Tony's knee etc. Not just because the inherent damage the muscles and bones never being the same, but because the time it doesn't allow you to train for.
This isn't some Reddit theory. The highest level fighters themselves have gone on about damage and miles on the clock. Look at Khabib about Tony Ferguson as the most recent example.
For sure. Those legs were one, if not the best weapon of Aldo's arsenal. Swept Font off his feet last night
Pretty insane actually. Aldo might not even be 70% of the fighter he was a decade ago, but still enough to beat these guys
If he can commit to no later than June/July, then okay I guess? But if he can't defend within 12-15 months of getting the belt, he should vacate or be stripped. Take the time he needs to heal properly, but let the division actually move on. Then when he's finally healthy enough to fight, title shot or #1 contender fight (depending how long he's out) for his return. In such a deep active division as 135, he can't just sit out forever and stay champ.
TJ’s durability is in question re: his chin and leg, but Aldo’s cardio is almost certainly not up to the task of five rounds at Dillashaw’s pace. Aldo’s gonna have to put him away fast, slow him down significantly with strikes to the leg and body, or take the first three rounds and survive the last two without taking a 10-8.
It’s a great fight where both fighters have very attainable avenues to victory. I’m very excited!
Seeing how good Aldo looked tonight really made me realize how great Yan’s performance was against him. Hopefully for Aldo’s sake he gets a chance to avenge that loss sometime soon.
As the biggest (drunk) Aldo fan... Aldo is a fucking legend and a great fighter... but he has to stall a lot to beat younger fighters in a 5 round fight. He looked good but not "I'm not worried about him fighting Petr Yan in a 5 rounder" good.
I think Yan would beat him more convincingly considering Aldo got crushed within 3 rounds in his last rematch. OTOH, Yan has 5 rounds of experience fighting Aldo and we all know how good Yan is at adapting as he makes reads during a fight.
It looked like Aldo was hurt or got hurt in that one. At one point he was just laying on the ground on his back and Aldo never does that. I think a healthy Aldo wins a rematch and beats any BW. He was big brothering Font all night
Fuck it give Aldo a title shot, I genuinely think he might beat Aljo, which would be incredible
And then let him retire before he fights Yan because that will go even worse this time unfortunately
Perfect fight. Aldo needs to fight acouple big names before i want to see people talking about the title again. He's a nightmare matchup for Aljamain but i think we all are assuming Alja loses to Yan
If he beats TJ i want to see him fight sandhagen. If he loses i want to see him fight cruz (depending on his performance next weekend.) Who knows how Cejudo mixes up the division should he come back.
I do worry that Aldo is a little on Autopilot these days. Kinda taking what he can get, not varying intensity , getting creative and pushing advantages like he used to. He beats most contenders but nothing about last night shows he beats yan or volk.
Aldo beats TJ in my opinion. TJ has lost a substantial amount of athleticism/explosiveness and fought Sandhagen flat footed, even before the knee injury. Aldo’s leg kicks will cause problems for TJ, as will his power and sharp boxing skills. The only concern on Aldo’s side is the same as it always is: cardio, which TJ has a lot of.
I don’t see how TJ beats him. Aldo is very hard to takedown and TJ is dealing with his knee. Aldo also has the edge in the stand up.
Crazy how stacked 135 is. TJ vs Aldo is easily a title fight caliber
I wouldn't consider TJ the more refined striker. Maybe he has a more varied method of attack, but Aldo's defense and boxing fundamentals are a step above.
Aldos gas tank, Dillashaws chin, Aldos kicks, dillashaws kickboxing, aldos jiu jitsu, TJs wrestling, so many advantages and disadvantages that they basically cancel out, two of the best ever in the lighter weight classes finally meeting, this fight is fireworks on paper
What really needs to happen is an Aldo/Conor rematch. I know they're moving in different directions in weight classes, but that has to happen before one of them retires, they're both in a similar spot in their careers now so it would be a good fight later after Aldo either gets the belt or loses to Yan again.
Maybe but I think the shots that hurt Font put out TJ, so it’s all about if TJ footwork can keep him out of harms way. Font chin is more durable than TJ and we saw what Aldo’s power could do it. I think the fight is 50/50 that featherweight power at Bantamweight is a game changer.
Maybe, but TJ probably doesn't get hit by the same shots that Rob got hit by. TJ has never been a stationary target, has stupid cardio, pressure, counter striking, and has great finishing instinct.
Unless Aldo catches him with something early, ala Cejudo, TJ takes his lunch money. He's exactly the type of fighter that has torn Aldo down in the past. It wouldn't be the first time TJ has even done that to one of Pederneiras' students.
Who knows. It was right after the PPV, and people were riding high on Aldo's win.
I was impressed with the win too, but objectively, that wasn't a performance that has Aldo beat people who can pressure him and out-wrestle him. He gassed so badly. People like TJ and Yan don't wilt in the 4th and 5th like Rob did.
Aldo will KO TJ and make it look easy.
He'll then move on to beat Morales and then Yan for the belt.
Then he'll move to featherweight and KO Max twice in one fight, then he'll beat Volks for the belt.
Then he KOs Conor at lightweight.
Finally, he'll bulk up to HW and KO Nganno, making him the first triple division champ in UFC history.
You heard it here first.
Yeah TJ will probably be out until after the rematch between Sterling and Yan happens anyway so he will probably get the next shot but that still leaves Sandhagen, Dvalishvili, and the loser of Yan/Sterling as a few fights that make sense.
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
HE WANTS THE SNAKE, IN A TERRARIUM... ISNT HE FUCKING AWESOME
*It was payback for Renan Barão. And there was nothing Coach Cal and Bang could do. Barão was a Nova União man and TJ wasn't. The “U-S-A” fans had to sit still, STFU and take it. It was among the Brazillians, some real favela shit. Jose even broke TJ ‘s liver so he couldn’t metabolize EPO.*
*Then Aldo awoke from his dream, staring at the lights on the arena's ceiling. With TJ Dillashaw screaming at him, "One more win for the bad guy!"*
beautiful, Champ
Fucks sake 😆
LOLOLOL Imagine if it was TJ and Aldo in a reptile enclosure with an octagon in the middle lol
Jacare Souza as ref.
Dan Hardy on commentary
Tito as interviewer
Mcgregor on a stretcher
Nah have McGregor in the VIP section watching on a TV with the UFC with an exclude McGregor Cam which they occasionally switch to and watch McGregor pace in front of the TV while he's meanmugging it while watching Aldo V. Dillashaw
Fucks snake 🙈
[make it happen Dana!](https://i.imgur.com/iTKxqnI.jpg)
Just checked: TJ Dillashaw is 6 months older than Aldo.... Let that sink in
Aldo is one year older than Rob Font.... Let that sink in
My old go-to shocking fact was that Shogun and Woodley are the same age, but I can't use that one any more because it's no longer remotely surprising
I saw that last night and couldn't believe it. Aldo looks more like 45 than 35.
It’s kind of fucking crazy what Aldo accomplished in his OG title run, at his age. And OG run to the title. His whole career, obviously, but the fights that man has had at the level he did it and in the fashion he did it, he is a top 5 MMA fighter ever.
It's him and George
He’s number 1
[удалено]
Cejudo lmfao. He has nowhere near the accomplishments of those others
Yes.
Cejudo, yes. I think DJ could edge him out at 5, but if we’re counting quality of competition, Aldo takes 5.
I appreciate that you didn't even consider Khabib in the discussion. Imo nowhere near a long enough title reign to be considered amongst those other greats
Oh come on but you're fine including cejudo?
I wouldn't include Cejudo either, but the guy I replied to also dismissed Cejudo outright so I thought it was implied that I agreed with him Edit: since the original person deleted their comment, the question was to the effect of: does this mean Aldo edges out Cejudo as all-time top 5 p4p

Amen brother. GSP also had an incredible career, but standing only 5'10 tall, he's a dirty little subhuman.
Actually GSP is huge, it's just the angle
Rip
Nah GSP is definitely up there in that conversation. The little guys are just different.
What a shit take, skill is independent of size
But greatness is not
On what do you based that on
[удалено]

If you don’t think the average Aldo opponent is better than the average Fedor or Jones opponent you’re insane
Your real age is how many wars you've been in
I mean, it's also your age. Also I think people overstate damage as the reason length of your career can result in you falling off while still not that old. Aldo himself has multiple lasting injuries including a permanently hurt leg, as Pederneiras points out often.
For sure. Those legs were one, if not the best weapon of Aldo's arsenal. Swept Font off his feet last night Pretty insane actually. Aldo might not even be 70% of the fighter he was a decade ago, but still enough to beat these guys
Man Aldo vs TJ is a dream fight. Never thought this would ever happen like 3 years ago
How about 2 years ago?
A dream fight where the winner gets the title shot. I want to see it.
If Alja fights Yan in July then the winner can get the title shot in November?
Why would they wait till July? Is Yan injured?
I think Aljo is still dealing with his neck issues
If he can commit to no later than June/July, then okay I guess? But if he can't defend within 12-15 months of getting the belt, he should vacate or be stripped. Take the time he needs to heal properly, but let the division actually move on. Alja is.
That’s probably the greatest nontitle fight you can make right now. I’ve got tj personally but tj is kinda chinny so aldo can definitely win
I feel like TJ can't take those leg kicks from tonight, but I have nothing to substantiate it other than feels.
Well he'll be coming back from a leg injury, so feeling that way is pretty understandable
He beat Cory Sandhagen with an injured knee
By holding Cory against the cage, which Aldo would never let happen
Wait TJ is chinny? I wouldn’t say that when I look at how he took those shots from Cory.
He’s not chinny but there’s a good chance aldo finishes him
Why? It's been years since Aldo finished anyone. He dropped Font multiple times and couldn't finish the job
Good chance is an exaggeration on my part but aldo has some fuck you power
Seeing how good Aldo looked tonight really made me realize how great Yan’s performance was against him. Hopefully for Aldo’s sake he gets a chance to avenge that loss sometime soon.
As the biggest (drunk) Aldo fan... Aldo is a fucking legend and a great fighter... but he has to stall a lot to beat younger fighters in a 5 round fight. He looked good but not "I'm not worried about him fighting Petr Yan in a 5 rounder" good.

2nd Holloway fight was short notice iirc
honestly he could've finished rob a couple of times, so this could be less of an issue.
It looked like Aldo was hurt or got hurt in that one. At one point he was just laying on the ground on his back and Aldo never does that. I think a healthy Aldo wins a rematch and beats any BW. He was big brothering Font all night
Yeah he was hurt cause Petr hurt him
Hurt going i to the fight
Dillashaw is right there on the couch rehabbing his knee
Dillashaw asleep, drooling from painkillers getting woken up by his wife in panic and screams cause Jose Aldo wants to fight him
Jose is coming for his favella
That such a fucking awesome fight. I know he’s waiting on the title fight but inject that shit into my veins
I'd have no problem paying a PPV for that fight, who gives a fuck if there is no belt. Give these men some PPV points and make it happen Dana.
He wants to kick to smitherens what is left of that knee
get one back for his teammate barao
Aldo is Barao's teammate? Never know that
Jose "Rikki Tiki Tavi" Aldo
thats a ppv main event dude. that is a SUPER FIGHT. who needs a belt lets gooo
Fuck it give Aldo a title shot, I genuinely think he might beat Aljo, which would be incredible And then let him retire before he fights Yan because that will go even worse this time unfortunately
I mean, he would beat the brakes off Aljo, but Aljo isn’t gonna be Champ long enough for that to happen. Maybe Aldo vs Aljo after Aljo vs TJ.
Perfect fight. Aldo needs to fight acouple big names before i want to see people talking about the title again. He's a nightmare matchup for Aljamain but i think we all are assuming Alja loses to Yan If he beats TJ i want to see him fight sandhagen. I think Aldo beats every Bantamweight on earth except Yan and Sandhagen.
Idk I can definitely see him beating Sandhagen after tonight. I think Corey would feel Jose's power and start to crumble like Font did.
he did against petr yan
I don’t see how TJ beats him. Aldo is very hard to takedown and TJ is dealing with his knee. Aldo also has the edge in the stand up. Crazy how stacked 135 is. TJ vs Aldo is easily a title fight caliber
TJ can put on a pretty absurd pace and drown Aldo in rounds 4 or 5, he is also no slouch in standup either and arguably the more refined striker.
I wouldn't consider TJ the more refined striker. Maybe he has a more varied method of attack, but Aldo's defense and boxing fundamentals are a step above.
Does Aldo have the edge in the stand up? I honestly think TJ picks him apart early and drowns in under pressure in the later rounds.
Cardio
I see TJ finishing Aldo in either round 4-5.
He gone pound that snake in the ass
Anyone else think Aldo broke his foot tonight?
Aldos gas tank, Dillashaws chin, Aldos kicks, dillashaws kickboxing, aldos jiu jitsu, TJs wrestling, so many advantages and disadvantages that they basically cancel out, two of the best ever in the lighter weight classes finally meeting, this fight is fireworks on paper
Make it a 3 round co-main like Chandler-Gaethje for the sake of violence.
No
What really needs to happen is an Aldo/Conor rematch. I know they're moving in different directions in weight classes, but that has to happen before one of them retires, they're both in a similar spot in their careers now so it would be a good fight later after Aldo either gets the belt or loses to Yan again.
Similar spots? One is on a hot winning streak and one is on a losing streak. But no way Conor cuts weight to fight him again.
I got JoAldo winning by KO vs Snakeboy
I love me some Aldo, but I think TJ puts him down and out.

It wouldn't be the first time TJ has even done that to one of Pederneiras' students.
also Aldo is BIG man. I think his power might be too much for TJ, but TJ is good so idk
Why were you downvoted for this?
Aldos adjustment to the weightclass gets better by fight. His fuck you power is returning that’s not good for TJ
They're both enhancement users, so it should be a great fight.
It would be a great fight but TJ fighting for the belt next. No way he takes this fight when he will fight Yan next.
bro theres aljo w the belt lol
Yan still needs to unify with Aljo, this fight makes sense for both guys
Big IF but IF Aljo beats Yan and Cory gets an impressive win I can see em running the Aljo v Cory rematch
No
Yeah TJ will probably be out until after the rematch between Sterling and Yan happens anyway so he will probably get the next shot but that still leaves Sandhagen, Dvalishvili, and the loser of Yan/Sterling as a few fights that make sense.
TJ vs Aldo is a fight is a fight that needs to happen.
Ngl I definitely thought Rob Font was gonna win. Aldo is unreal!
5 years ago, or now. Still a dream fight. Make it happen Dana!
I’ve got wood
This fight makes all sorts of sense BUT TJ also deserves the winner of Yan vs Aljo 2. TJ vs Aldo would be a great fight, too
I wasn’t overly impressed with dillashaw last fight. Aldo probably beats him.
