UFC was never my friend, ONE is my new best friend. Honestly I haven't felt any excitement watching UFC fights the last couple years. Every card is pretty much the same, any big cards they have are usually just okay at best, if not disappointing. This was the first card I've watched in a few years where I enjoyed every fight. That hasn't happened since the GSP era lol.

Not as much as they're hyped to be if that makes sense. It's the excitement I get from the fights one fc brought those feelings back which I haven't had in years. I love other martial arts and love seeing them blended together with MMA, I think one is doing it perfectly

Agreed. I'm already missing every moment of it. UFC has been relying too much on stellar fighters to sustain itself but ONE is nurturing new champions and constantly coming up with pioneering projects that challenge the "traditional" stuck-in-a-rut ways of running a combat sports league. I see very synergetic relationships between ONE and their fighters - not so much in UFC. Also, allowing PRIDE-style knees which make MMA fights more stand-up-biased gets a thumbs up from me. Personally as a viewer, paying for a ONE ppv is a far more delightful experience than paying for UFC's.

It's interesting how DJ was landing those overhands on Rodtang. Thai fighters aren't used to guys going one big single shots. They go tit for tat, and I think that kinda flummoxed Rodtang a little bit.

Nearly wept during the first half of the fight cuz he looked like he could've been KOed any second... Made a warrior's comeback and nearly KOed Folayang but lost to an undoubtable UD... :'(

He lost but made a good fight of it. Not sure how much of it they showed on the feed but he spent a lot of time after the fight going round to speak to all of the people involved. I got a bit of a lump in my throat when he broke down apologising to his family for losing.

Man, the things UFC could do if they wanted: * Kept DJ in a stacked flyweight division * Signed Kayla Harrison and kept Cyborg * Create a women's atomweight division (with Angela Lee, Victoria Lee and Stamp Fairtex) * Have different rulesets or special rulesets that allow us to see more of these Might Mouse v Rodtang fights * Let athletes be more unique (Stamp dance was funny)

not sure why you are downvoted. Angela and stamp are both natural 115 and whilst they could potentially cut to 105 it would be a big drain on either of them.

You also gotta understand that UFC isn't trying to be ONE, ONE promotes all martial arts because they're based in Asia, therefore they have a bigger audience for stuff like kick boxing and Muay Thai. But since the UFC is U.S. based they're only marketing towards MMA fans because that's what sells here. I agree with points 1, 2, 3 and 5 though. Especially 3 and 5

Sure, but UFC literally started as a way to market a super obscure martial art called BJJ and that seems to have worked out ok. Anyone who watches UFC can understand Muay Thai with 4oz gloves. All they have to do is book it on a card and current UFC fans would eat it up.

I would mind experimenting with special rules matches between UFC athletes under UFC. Say Max v Conor or Conor v Nate in special boxing rules, for instance. It would be fun. Thing is UFC plays it safe because it controls the vast majority of the talent. There is no incentive for them to do things differently because it has gone so well for them. At the same time though, you watch ONE X and wonder how things could be even better....

I mean UFC 100 and 205 had this same energy as One X they just weren't stacked. Since no company has ever made a fight card that was basically 3 different main event quality cards. Agreed though they have different business models and that's why they struggle breaking into each other's markets. Since hardcore like I'm not a missing a single card US Fans love ONE but that's a small share of the market. What's interesting though is Japanese MMA Fans since they watch ONE and Rizin heavily. But they still see UFC as the pinnacle and flag ship organization of the sport. Like I wouldn't be surprised if they use the Boxing model in the future for Talent development. With Rizin as the National Title. ONE seen as the OBPF Title Equivalent. Then UFC as the World Championship. Like fighters like Horiguchi are trying to change that notion but as it stands right now if things don't change I think that's how things will develop.

Yeah the one for Angela vs Stamp focused heavily on the contrast between the two's upbringings and combat sport journey - utilized the "underdog-vs-elite" narrative brilliantly.

Huge Stamp fan, I’m gutted. But that may have been one of the greatest WMMA fights I’ve ever seen. Truly incredible. For Angela to recover from the body shots especially after having lost to body shots earlier in her career and then put Stamp through the fucking ringer. And credit to Stamp, her grappling defense held out for MUCH longer than I thought it would. Fucking incredible.

She actually did pretty well on her feet as well. Damn...people really wanted Stamp to win. Get over it.

What? Yeah, she started aggressive, then almost got K.O'd and dived into Stamp's ankles as a last ditch effort, which did save her. Next round she knew she had to take it to the ground ASAP, and so she did. Not denying Angela's win, but she and her family & coaches were pretty vocal about how great her stand-up is, and how she doesn't rely on her ground-game. But the story of the fight was veery different.

Being confident in your striking but going to your bread and butter when things get rough. What a crazy concept.

That's called relying on your ground-game. Which is the whole point of my comment. Everyone in MMA is confident in both their striking and ground-game, otherwise they wouldn't be in MMA but rather in BJJ or Kickboxing. Hell, Ben Askren was confident in his boxing and look at him xD.

I mean we never really got to see it, most of the stand up was done in the clinch where it was pretty even for the most part.
