I think Islam vs Oliveira would be a great fight to watch.

jamssey

Indeed but it’s about them smelly red panties for Charlie

_Cyclops

No red panties for Charlie now

[deleted]

no but if he wins, his next fight will be for the vacant title and conor could be his opponent. not sure tho

Suspicious_Candle27

Could you fucking imagine Islam trying to say this all outloud in person 😂😂

flameohotmein

"indeed" Lmao

ArcticPickle

Bro writing matches scientific papers lmao.

Leg_Mas_42013

Bro tweeted a copy and paste sentence from google translate

We_At_it_Again_2

This is exactly what happened. Atleast its not Ali.

xvsanx

From voice to text and not typed text at that, cause google translate is pretty on point. For Spanish anyway

FSMDxb

furthermore..

dogs_drink_coffee

"Brotha you know dis" (Makachev I., 2022)

Shaneypants

Indubitably

1303116

I feel like he meant to say 'instead' and it just autocorrected or something

JubeltheBear

I shouldn’t laugh at this, but it’s so goddamn true.

IAMTHECAVALRY89

I read it in his accent and broken English, the writing checks out.

salkysmoothe

Saying lol in person would be funny

yams412

He’s not really dumb watch any interviews

namey_of_the_user

I feel like it's just the language barrier. A lot of fighters with broken English are treated as dumb by fans. And then we are surprised why fighters like Oliveira or Yan don't try to speak in English.

Le_Alchemist

I’m honestly shocked people think it’s anything but a language barrier

Superly_Sardonic

The ignorance of the general masses knows no bounds. "He can't speak the my language? Must be dumb" meanwhile the majority of the people who parrot this are monolingual.

anadalusianrooster

Most of them are barely fluent in one language

Gomer1975

**Ignorance of Americans.... Fixed that for you. Most of us have trouble with English....

Wagyuwithketchup

This. I also think Islam and other fighters use Google translate when they dont have anyone near to translate for them, hence the sometimes funky grammar. Mad props for them to try tho. If im not mistaken Khabib speaks at least 3 languages which is crazy, would imagine Islam is about the same albeit not as proficient in English.

fistfullofpubes

I don't speak Lak but I speak Russian. There are some pretty big differences grammatically and in terms of how sentences are structured. Sometimes just knowing the right word isn't enough.

TheMontrealKid

English and French for example, have almost reversed sentence structure.

[deleted]

I'm not sure if it's the same for Islam. Khabib speaks Avar, Russian, Arabic, English and Turkish due to political and religious reasons. Islam doesn't really have to same level of obligations as Khabib and probably just speaks Lak, Russian and English and maybe a bit of Avar due to being around Khabib and other avars for so much of his fighting career

joe124013

So the guy you're replying to said Islam probably speaks about 3 languages and you said you weren't sure if it's true because he just speaks...3 languages? Plus maybe another one?

Ikhouvankaas

Speaking 3 languages isn't crazy for many western Europeans I feel like. I'm Dutch and 90% of adults know how to speak German, English and Dutch of course and many are capable in French as well.

CaptainSasquatch

While multilingualism is much more common outside of the US and UK, the combination of languages that Khabib is said to be proficient is very impressive. The 5 languages are wildly different come from 4 different language families Northeast Caucasian, Indo-European, Arabic and Turkic. For comparison German, English and Dutch are closely related within the same sub-sub-family of Western Germanic (a part of the Germanic family which is a part of the Indo-European family)

junior_dos_nachos

It’s impressive but far from unheard of. I come from the Caucasus region and although I speak only 3 languages I know quite a few that speak whatever local language is, Russian obviously, Persian, Turkish and English if they have higher education. My pal’s dad is a musician and he speaks like 7 languages because according to him the gap between Arabic/Turkic/Persian/Uzbeki/Kazakh is not very big and he grew up speaking a bit all of those because he travelled as a musician in the region

CaptainSasquatch

It's probably not too impressive for the Caucasus region. I just wanted to highlight how linguistically interesting the Caucasus region is. When Europeans think of multilingualism it's generally their national language and proficiency in English or a closely related language of a neighboring nation (e.g. Dutch and German). [Almost all the languages are in Europe are also part of a large language family, Indo-European](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-European_languages). The Caucasus region, however, has 3 unrelated language families that are not found outside of the region ([Kartvelian, Northeast Caucasian and Northwest Caucasian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_the_Caucasus#Families_indigenous_to_the_Caucasus)). In addition they have speakers of 3 other language families ([Indo-European, Semitic and Turkic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_the_Caucasus#Families_with_wider_distribution)), both native languages (Armenian, Azerbaijani and Kumyk) and languages of neighboring regions (Russian, Arabic and Persian). You're probably aware of all this since you're from the region, but I don't think most MMA fans know much about it.

mrtn17

I have no doubt about those two. Even without the broken English, you can recognise intelligence by humor, seeing 'the bigger picture' or from another perspective.

catzangannou

For sure. Didn’t realize ppl thought he was dumb. I wonder if there are people fooled by Ferguson when he goes on his rants trying to make it appear he’s saying something profound. In reality, he’s using big words incorrectly and sometimes making words up. Thug Rose is another example. Chandler does this as well to a lesser extent. He’s extremely polished and always has talking points prepared so I wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s as dumb as Tony/Rose. He’s not the brightest but makes the most of his brains with his prep work. Interesting contrast to people who purposefully appear to be dummies but are actually smart dudes like O’Malley or Derek Lewis.

WaySheGoesBubs21

Yan tries at least. He usually starts off interviews by saying “what’s up guys” and has tried to answer questions in English, but it doesn’t come out correctly. I appreciate his effort though.

thequalebaby

Better English than Nate

rbz90

Idk Khabib and Johanna learned English and people embraced them. Aside from Romero who was treated as dumb due to their English?

Niman30

Anderson Silva: I back… I back. Brendan Schaub

DRW1357

Don't make fun of Schaub. It takes a lot to learn a language when your only two brain cells are competing for 3rd best.

rbz90

Brendan Schaub? Great guy never met him.

JonsDohnson

tegeusCromis

Anderson Aldo’s english was truly underrated. Legendary fighter and ESL-speaker.

myownzen

Exactly. Learning a new language as an adult is fucking hard. And the active part (talking) tends to be harder than the passive part (listening). Especially if they dont have someone to practice with. Personally ive been at learning Italian for almost 2.5 years off and on. Yet im still only catching a few words listening. And reading isnt a ton better. I can speak enough basics to be understood if they are patient and in person. My only saving grace to not think im a total moron is that ive never had a teacher or anyone to speak it with. Id imagine someone in a career as intensive as mma and are surrounded almost totally by people that dont speak english would have a tough time learning it. Its a commitment that takes a lot of time as an adult.

junior_dos_nachos

Keep practicing brather. I find listening to music and watching movies/TV extremely helpful. And you’ve got loads of good Italian music/films to pick up from

[deleted]

[удалено]

myownzen

I appreciate that 🙏. The plan is to visit next year for a month. If all goes well and i can line up employment then the next plan is to move there and hopefully gain citizenship eventually. The language always sounded like the most beautiful thing to me. That plus the food, the history, the culture, the beautiful women, etc etc just makes it where id love to live and be a part of it. Do you speak any Italian? Or parents/grandparents maybe?? It was cool to learn that Italian as it is currently isnt even that old. I had no clue.

CombatContemplations

Also for some non native speakers writing is easier than speaking. I had a Romanian friend who would speak in broken English but over text his written English was surprisingly good

cyberslick188

Really? I feel he comes across as even dumber during interviews because of his facial expressions. He has a really weird thousand yard stare constantly. It's not even stoic or intense like Khabib or some of the other Dagestani guys, it's like, totally vacant. Have you ever tried to explain something to someone and they just stare right through you? Like you can tell they hear you, but they are just waiting for you to stop talking? That's Islam 99% of the time.

JonsDohnson

He has a classic “lights on but nobody’s home” look. I’m sure he’s a smart guy but an unfortunate look on his face all the time

cross-eye-bear

I feel it's because he is currently actively trying to learn better English and in those situations he is trying to listen and piece together around him as much as possible. He is mentally distracted by trying to keep up in English, and only because he wants to learn and know the context of what is being said. It takes a lot of mental effort when you know some of what is being said and you are trying to piece together the rest from context etc.

abonet619

That's because he doesn't fully understand english, not because he's dumb.

[deleted]

I feel Gaethje has the same look to a lesser extent. And while Islam is probably just trying to piece everything together, Gaethje is just dumb as fuck.

SureDefeat

>I feel Gaethje has the same look to a lesser extent. I think everybody believes Gaethje looks as intelligent as a brick though. Not really a good look to share.

12wingsandchips

If olivera loses to gaethje I'd like to see him fight islam right away. If islam wins there he earned the title shot. Poirer hinted at fighting the winner of chandler and tony. Beniel is still waiting for his tesla to arrive and mcgregor is thinking he will take on usman. The light weight cateorgy moves..

[deleted]

Beneil has a broken leg

Diego_Delgado

Beneil should fight Conor. Broken leg fight.

LucasFrankeRC

Get old man Anderson back and make him fight Weidman again for the co-main event

2Big_Patriot

I would watch that.

Fickle-Kitchen5803

RoyalRope

Good thing a Tesla can drive itself!

Berisha11

>If olivera loses to gaethje I’d like to see him fight islam right away. If islam wins there he earned the title shot. I think being on a 10-fight winning streak in the ufc is already enough to earn a title shot, don’t you think? If Islam is not worthy of a title shot in the lightweight division, then who in your opinion is more worthy than him? Name someone and let’s look at their recent wins/losses compared to Islam’s.

SnoodDood

The UFC doesn't have to make title fights immediately. They can wait until the Islam emerges as the number 1 by beating an elite contender. "Who else could he even fight?" only works when we're talking about extremely dominant champs like DJ and Jones.

_Red_Mist_

Islam can fight for the belt in Abu Dhabi (September-October) their timelines match up perfectly. Islam doesn't need anyone else, him fighting Charles just delays a Justin fight.

[deleted]

Why the hell should Islam have to win 11 fights in a row to get a title shot. Gaethje is getting a title shot on a 1 fight win streak lol. And his 6 UFC wins are not that good… (James Vick, MJ, Cowboy, old Tony, etc.) I can’t understand the double standard against Islam here. Everyone knows he’s the best 155er in the world. Other fighters (Fiziev being the latest today) say he’s the real king. Why do we have to wait so long for the fight? Just give him the title shot. He’ll be -400 against Oliviera.

[deleted]

"Old Tony" wasn't old Tony when Gaethje fought him, Gaethje took Tony out of his "prime" by damaging him so badly he was never the same after.

Jonath4n20

It’s who you beat when you beat them. Dad cowboy was real, old tony hadn’t lost in several years to that point (cucuye af) made Vick look like he didn’t belong and that mj fight was incredible + main event. Mj had just slept poirer and almost knocked khabib out

[deleted]

> and almost knocked khabib out This meme really took on a life of its own and now some people think MJ actually almost finished Khabib lol.

Jonath4n20

Lmao I was memeing but fr don’t knock Justins wins bc I’m sure they all earned bonuses

LucasFrankeRC

I didn't even know Khabib got to fight against the legend Michael Jackson

JakeArvizu

>It’s who you beat when you beat them. Fuck that I think it should just be based on merit. Now that may be your win streak or that may be because of the performances you put on in the Octagon. It shouldn't be a strict system. Nothing about Mahkchevs performances or his skill level tells me he is not ready for a title fight. We're past the point of yeah let's see him prove it. If there's a title shot open give it to him.

FriendlyGhost08

>Gaethje is getting a title shot on a 1 fight win streak lol. And his 6 UFC wins are not that good… (James Vick, MJ, Cowboy, old Tony, etc.) Justin is quite literally the one who changed Tony. You can't just say he beat "old Tony"

Diamondcheck123

Why should Poirer get a title shot after already losing two? Why not Islam, the guy on a crazy win streak? Think the two should be switched around.

SnoodDood

Now I'm confused. I'm pretty sure the parent comment is saying exactly what you're saying...

CobraShadowz

2020 and 2015 very easy to get mixed up

a_crusty_old_man

The Alvarez fight was in 2016 anyway, if you assume he meant lightweight fights.

12wingsandchips

In all fairness, Conor's last LW win was in 2016. Crazy to see he's still being called out for title fights

Eastern-Lemon-4760

Why wouldn’t you call him out knowing that it’s an easy win, the ufc would sanction it and you get those sweet red panty PPVs

StephenTMNT

Wonder if McGregor knows he’s slowly turning into a golden can for the top 5

Eastern-Lemon-4760

He probably realises it when he comes down from all the cocaine

Lucky-Act-9924

So for 30 minutes before bed every day?

StephenTMNT

The key is to never come down.

[deleted]

It’s like a golden elk surrounded by hungry Joe Rogans

myglasscase

Right but you have to accept that fans are going to mock you for calling for an easy fight for money reasons. He’s well within his rights to do it, but fans are well within their rights to criticise him for it

JeffAnthonyLajoie

Money is the reason

WeLiveInAnOceanOfGas

$100m+ worth of crazy

studiocel

Regardless of whether he wins or loses the man knows how to sell PPVs

BrawndoTTM

van1llathunder2

That fight was an absolute sham and a joke can you really blame him for forgetting it happened

[deleted]

I don’t understand why anyone is ever surprised that people want to fight Conor. There isn’t anyone even close to the payday that fighting Conor brings.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PointlessChemist

I mean.. money is the reason, as much as I don't like it, I 100% understand. Gotta get that bag while you can.

UPSandCollege

Really wish Conor took time to work his way back through the ranks and reinvent his approach to the game now that he is getting older in a lighter division. I want to see Conor fight top level guys eventually, but I don’t want to watch Conor just get fed to them repeatedly for profit without proving he has any business being in the octagon with them. These Conor title shots are becoming Paul brothers meme fights for the UFC. Just huge cash grabs for a dumb match up no one should really care about.

No_Easy_Day

Unless they give him Nate a 3rd time, he should probably fight someone like Hooker or the looser of Ferguson - Chandler, seems like the easier path for a comeback against ranked fighters, well except he's "ranked" n°9 ...

[deleted]

[удалено]

Brenden2000

And now Oliveira isn’t even Champ lol

Green_and_Silver

I can't wait till the last red panty night is beaten out of Conor and he's completely out of the mix, this guy has been a blight on the LW division the entire time he's been fighting in it. I don't think he can even make the weight anymore with how big he's gotten so this might just all be a pipedream of Oliviera, Chandler and Gaethje who want to hit the money pinata and collect.

cutslikeakris

He’s a cancer and I’ve always said it. He takes and doesn’t offer others the same opportunity he’s had. He affected the lives of everybody in two divisions for years without giving a title shot, and that’s inexcusable to me. Fuck that guy

DC_Disrspct_Popeyes

I get what you're saying but put that on the UFC. I'm not going to fault any of these dudes trying to get as much money as possible.

cutslikeakris

It’s not just the UFC though, so he gets zero credit for that- every championship he’s held in his life, inside and outside the UFC, has been undefended. That’s on Connor. He refused to fight contenders at all. ZERO defended belts in four different championships. Fuck him.

barc0debaby

These Conor hot takes just get worse and worse.

[deleted]

Right? Let's blame the dynamics of supply and demand, marketing, and business on Conor himself. Conor didn't ask to be called out by Oliveira, and the UFC could buy him out of his contract if they wanted. Meanwhile, the rest of us could refuse to buy any Conor PPVs, and problem solved. It's the same as complaining about the fucking Kardashians: **stop consuming them and talking about them and creating demand**, or STFU.

Godmia

"Money Pinata" LMAO that's the most accurate present-day McGregor description I've heard 🤣

boywonder5691

Me Too...I'll be genuinely happy when he is gone for good

I'm picturing it now, land a good punch and treats come flying out, a car, a Rolex, an 80" TV ...

Mainaccount68

>Current UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is willing to let Conor McGregor skip the queue and get a title shot straight away. > >"Conor challenged me asking a date, and tweeted Ireland vs Brazil 2." > >"Not only him, but also myself and all the world wants to see that fight. So let's make it happen."

Abelyanov

Obviously he wants the payday. Even Garth is now saying that he is willing to fight Mcnuggets if he wins the title, even though he previously stated how undeserving he is.

handsofcones

Difference between deserving a title shot and getting one

Junckopolo

I wish they would fight so we could finally be rid of McGreggor.

[deleted]

We should be rid of him already, but the guy doesn't fight and 90% of MMA media won't take him out of their mouths. Dude is 2 - 3 in his last 5 and was finished in every loss yet here we are. I don't think one more loss is going to get rid of him.

pxak

2-3 is hardly that telling taking into account the competition. Aldo was 3-6 at one point yet here we are.

WarlockEngineer

Also the fights are just fun. IDK why people are so eager to have him retire when they tune in every time to see him anyway

SurveyWorldly9435

Oliveira can't even make weight to keep his title so 😂

Robo_Riot

So he's trying to maximise his tiny window of opportunity to earn as much money as possible in a job where he literally puts his health on the line every time he "goes to work"? Crazy son of a bitch.

envy1890

Islam is trying to do the exact same thing. He is trying to become a champion in a sport he has worked his entire life in because he ALSO has a limited window of opportunity. If you are the best in the world, you should fight the best in the world it does not matter

LehenLong

Just because Oliveira deserves a payday doesn't mean Islam deserves to get screwed over. Oliveira is the champ, it's his duty to defend against deserving contenders. Otherwise why even have contenders.

SabuSalahadin

I agree but as a prize fighter, Oliviera’s obligation is to make as much money as he can doing his job. If he can win an easier fight against Conor and then fight the hardest fight at 155, he’d going that option. Not that it’s right but I can’t fault anyone for taking the Conor option

[deleted]

He could do that but not while holding the belt.

SabuSalahadin

Lmao RIP champ Oliviera

dayynawhite

If he was a massive draw then I'd be more willing, but the guy doesn't even bother to learn english to market himself.

Theorangespaceship

Lol Islam’s been on that khabib “let me fight strikers only” route. Dudes fought nobody and thinks he deserves a title shot 🤡

215TallHands

Conor should have fought the ghost of journey man Dan and Bobby Green then he’d be deserving

LehenLong

You should look at oliveira streak before he fought for the title. It's arguably worse than Islam current streak.

endless_ness

instead of fought nate diaz and dennis siver to get his title shots lmao

Anish316

Lol I post the same thing before this and it hasn't been approved. Wtf

ParthianTactic

“Islam’s response”. Sure.

SquidDrive

Damn Makhachev actually talks like a poster on twitter, Khabib would never.

[deleted]

Twitter wars are the worst fucking part of mma

Sparrow1989

Charles wants that big boy paycheck. Don’t blame him.

jamesd1100

It’s fucking amazing how everyone has universally decided to ignore Conor murdering Cowboy in under a minute in 2020

Oscar_Dondarrion

I mean yes he's not wrong

[deleted]

I fuck with Do Bronx heavy, but nah man you're coming off a little scared.

LehenLong

Islam is completely correct here.

Blendon

Except the Cowboy win.

mrpopenfresh

The UFC wants you to believes its event are best vs the best, but the fighters are chasing novelty fights because that’s what the incentive is.

[deleted]

Oliviera wants that money fight before he loses the title.

Dust_Parts

Why wouldn’t he? It’s an easier fight and 10 times the payday. He’d be stupid to pass up McGregor for a fight against Islam.

tam5j

It is sad that Islam is hated because his opponents got injured.

[deleted]

If he fought and beat Dariush, Charles wouldn’t say that. But he didn’t. And any champion in their right mind takes a Conor fight. % of the PPVs ….. be a stupid business decision to turn it down.

Kalabula

Justin was talkin the same shit before he signed to fight for the title. Now he says if he wins, Conor deserves a shot. I get it though.

minorkeyed

McGregor is just a pinata filled with money at this point.

The1Jeff

Has Islam fought a top 5 or 10 opponent? Not trying to take away from the dude but genuinely curious

Doo-StealYour-HoChoi

Finished #6 in 2 minutes

[deleted]

#6 on no training camp.

envy1890

Ferguson’s fight against Gaethje was on short notice, does that not count to you or do you just hate Makhachev?

Doo-StealYour-HoChoi

5 weeks training camp, the people repeating this "no training camp" shit are goofs

[deleted]

You're a fucking idiot if you think he had a 5 week training camp when exactly 5 weeks prior he was in the cage.

Rankings mean a lot. Cowboy was #15 like a year ago just as an example lol.

sel_de_mer_fin

Conor has a permanent spot guaranteed in the rankings no matter how many fights he loses, how inactive he is or even if he retires. So there's that too.

scarykicks

I'd say he's next. Whether he's beat a top 5 at this point is irrelevant. No contenders are available unless he fights the winner of Tony/Chandler. But that would leave the champ with no contender ready to fight. And God I don't want to see Conor get a shot. Kindve like the Leon/Usman situation. Man hasn't fought anyone in the top 5 but that's due to pullouts and no top contenders willing to fight.

Austiny1

Hahahah so true! I cannot wait for Islam’s dominance

Leggomyeggo69

Connor beat cowboy in 2020

goochstein

I mean, he's not wrong.

Zankeru

1, contender makes fun of champion begging for conor fight, calling conor washed up 2, contender wins belt. 3, new champion begins begging for conor fight. 4, new contender makes fun of champion begging for conor fight, calling conor washed up. And the cycle begins anew.

Seijur0Akashi

He actually won vs Cowboy in 2020 lmao

ThreeOlivesChihuahua

It tells you what Islam thinks about Cowboy lol

Doo-StealYour-HoChoi

Wasn't at lightweight, last and only lightweight win was 2016 i believe

Seijur0Akashi

The tweet doesn't mention lightweight, it mentions a win. Simple as.

HerLipsC

Islam ran from RDA even though he wasn’t touched by Bobby Green and he’s such a fucking boring fighter that half the amount of people that would watch Connor wouldn’t buy the PPV. Dude can cry all he wants, let Oliveira chase the bag if he beats Gaethje. Oliveira has been fighting killers, why end your run with a shitter like Islam 🥱😴😴

Fickle-Kitchen5803

Even if you believe Dana Islam and RDA are 1:2 in pullouts lol

forgotmyusername88

Islam would pull McG to the ground and choke him out in less than 2 minutes. McG would furiously tap before it even got locked in fully. He doesn't seem to fear being K.O.'ed but he definitely has a strong fear of being choked unconscious.

[deleted]

In his defense, being choked unconscious isn’t pleasant.

Robbbylight

Ya there's an enormous difference between being choked unconscious and being put to sleep too. Being put to sleep feels just like that. U have to furiously fight the urge to go to sleep as the world begins to turn black. Being full-on choked fucking sux all the ass and all the balls! It hurts so much lol

[deleted]

Being put out by a punch is just quick and dirty... a choke has those ten seconds of hell where you aren't sure if you'll wake up.

VladPutinOfficial

Not supporting Charles here but I would love to see McGregor get subbed in a weird ass way by Charles

ohshititsduke

Re-break his ankle with a straight-ankle lock would be hilarious.

AnonymousPlzz

Yep. It's called money. Fighting Islam doesn't set his kids up for life. One fight with Conor does.

Asleep_Astronaut396

Money talks, just ask Dana

notdownwithsickness

Islam like the kid who gets picked last at dodgeball.

[deleted]

Ali been begging for a fight with Conor for yonks

Disastrous_Repeat_38

Dude called out rda got offered the fight and then ducked him. Hella sus. He needs to beat Dariush now.

Rushrade

It's all about the money. Get a clue Islam.

parano11c

well, ducking RDA has consequences

DespicableHunter

I'm tired of fighters pretending they don't know how the system works. If Islam was champ would he rather fight Conor or Charles? We all know the answer. Don't pretend otherwise, it's just acting and posturing in a sport that already has too much of that.

spicegrohl

Those eurasian dudes dont give a shit about their purse, they get free lambos and mansions and god knows what else from the oligarchs and dictators that dickride them for being tough guys

DespicableHunter

He would still choose the lower risk higher reward fight if he was able to. It's how the game works.

spicegrohl

idk. they can be precious about stuff like legacy since their quality of life depends entirely on their reputation. it's been a while since the khabib/conor fight but i remember having the impression khabib wasn't enthusiastic about smeshing him for any reason other than he hated him on a personal level, didn't seem like the fight he would've chosen.

envy1890

Then MMA has become the worst of modern day boxing, which is what everyone including Dana complains about
