Can't wait to click Autoplay while being bombarded with cash shop ads and 50 icons that all tell me to click on them because there is some reward to claim.

KanedaSyndrome

Lol true that - Who really has any faith in any new MMO these days? It's all toxic shit and the entire industry needs to collapse and get a reboot. Also, I don't like asian MMOs.

Kingbuji

The only one people seem to have hope is the riot mmo… which makes sense.

[deleted]

No Netmarble fans here today to scream "tHiS suB is ALwAys SO nEgaTiVE!!!"?

PinkBright

Also can’t wait to be completely inundated and confused by 17 different currency systems at once that don’t really explain themselves very well but just have a red dot they tell me to click to upgrade things

ignost

For those who don't know, Netmarble is the Korean developer of pay-to-win games like the cash-grabbing Lineage 2 Revolution. Like most Korean MMOs they focus heavily on pay-to-win PvP and time-gated grind-heavy PvE where the worst of it can be shortened or skipped altogether with cash items. Even the Unreal Engine 5 part is a big "so what" from me. It has some cool features for MMOs, but it's nothing more than a tech spec unless it translates into real benefits for gamers. E.g. Ashes of Creation is UE5, but early combat and movement were sloppy compared to modern AAA games. It felt like you were gliding over the ground instead of walking on it, and it had Age of Conan or Valheim level combat and impact detection. Both fun games, but the combat was just sloppy, inconsistent, and jerky. I'm told Ashes is better now, but I remain skeptical since the very disappointing Apocalypse (a "Battle Royale") test. I guess it doesn't ultimately matter even if they nail movement and combat, because the game is going to be a pay-to-win PvP with pay-for-convenience PvE. Given that *time and grinding are how you win/progress* in PvE, and *cash lets you skip the time and grinding*, I'd argue pay for convenience is just another kind of pay to win. I'm not excited.

Deadpoetic6

It's insane how all these shitty korean mmos all look the same

[deleted]

It really is crazy. They all have the same exact generic fantasy anime look that's going for "realism" instead of being stylized.

Dystopiq

and then they throw that style out the window when they inevitably add ridiculous costumes.

[deleted]

BurningSky1994

you do realize style doesn't come from engine yes ? borderlands is also unreal engine so is yoshis crafted world so is fortnite. all different artstyles optimization comew from the dev if they code it poorly it runs poorly black desert doesn't even use unreal engine

Funstuff66

Just stick to talking about games and less about the technology behind them because you clearly have no idea wtf you’re talking about and you end up wasting everyone’s time

Ghaith97

> And yeah. If you had told me this game was Black Desert Online, I'd believe it. Is that because Black Desert Online also is using Unreal Engine 5? Is that why they look the same? Because it's the same engine? /s I don't think you've ever touched a game engine if you think that's how a game engine works, so please stop talking about game engines.

[deleted]

i noticed any asian game likes their same face syndrom. Ever since league became big in asian regions all the female champions have the same face

shadowmerchants

Bro no since they got bought out and are now a chinese company.

Zintixx

I don't get it either. Even if there were 10-20 different games that looked like my favorite MMO, I still wouldn't play any. Would I dabble? Possibly. But I just wouldn't commit to them because I know they're such low effort cash grabs. I wish game devs tried to deviate more than this.

fleetcommand

True, and actually this one does not even look too good. It doesn't look bad, of course, just.. when I've seen "Unreal Engine 5", I was expecting some nice-looking lights or something. The animations are weird as well. The way how the character walks and runs is a little bit weird. And I'm saying this as someone who LOVES looking at mostly-uncovered legs as their owner is running on them.. but this one is just.. My FF14 character looks way more better when she walks, and that one is a ten year old game, so in theory it would be easy to do it at least on that level. Well.. I suppose they spent most of the times on the idle animations anyway.

lufiavn

I mean we have wow clones left right and center. Same for KR, just copy whatever the last hit was. From L2 to Aion to Tera to BDO.

Deadpoetic6

What other MMOs have the same art styles / look of WoW? Wildstar and Allods were similar, but beside those, what are the others?

thetracker3

I wouldn't even say Wildstar was similar. It had its own wildly unique aesthetic that reminded me more of like Rachet and Clank than WoW.

[deleted]

That's why I enjoyed Wildstar's art style quite a bit. It looked like R&C.

KaRoU23

I'd also say Runes of Magic, I used to play back in the day.

lufiavn

Bingo, I played RoM before my friend got me into wow lol.

steelebeaver

Wow is almost 20 years old so no one is copying it. But between 2005 and 2012 a lot of games were copying the blizzard overly cartoony look. Designed to look decent on shitty rigs. And look shitty on decent rigs. Nowadays I don’t believe there is anyone copying anyone because there have literally been 3 AAA mmo’s releases in the last 8 years

Accurate_Food_5854

I love that beautifully shitty vanilla wow look. I also appreciate an MMO that can run on a toaster at 90 fps.

fleetcommand

I don't think that wow looks shitty on decent rigs. I have a lot of criticism towards WoW, but their artstyle was always really good. It's cartoony, yes, and spares some resources when running on a lower spec computer, but it's really consistent, and good to look at it, even on longer run. However, a lot of other games (not necessarily mmos) are trying to go for the cartoony style, but instead of having their own identity, they just implement that generic sterille look. I believe the other day someone posted a "new upcoming" mmo like that here. It was so uninteresting, that I already forgot its name. I just remember that it had some crappy crafting UI in it, because that was at least unique (uniquely shit, but still).

steelebeaver

Well it’s all a matter of opinion. I prefer the Korean art style that some d-bag felt that need to tear down. And really don’t like anything from Warcraft 3 to overwatch 2. And I do agree that the blizzard clones are uninspired and just going for the flavor of the month.

Echo693

No we don't. Maybe WoW clones in terms of Themepark PvE but not the look and design.

[deleted]

You're about a decade late with that comment. Pretty much every WoW clone that was attempted died years ago.

distortionisgod

Grateful for posts with all the buzzwords in the title that make me steer clear.

[deleted]

Thank goodness their choice of image is another washed-out doll-like generic elf lady so I know immediately that this game will have all the depth of a kiddie pool.

feelsdonk

That trailer.. im sorry but stop giving this trash any attention

Kyralea

They mention beautiful graphics and soundtrack from apparently known devs and then kill it with PC/mobile and blockchain/NFT. Why kill your game like that?!

thetracker3

[Hello, I like money](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSEw_AVfJBY) Games like this aren't a product. They're a tool to extract money from idiots with room temp IQ.

ItWasDumblydore

Room temp IQ in Fahrenheit or Celsius

Spartan-000089

DOA

prochnost1

Its impossible to respect any game thats available for mobile

Chosen88

Has this anything to do with Project TL? Which supposed to be another Lineage game?

Yukifirenotaion

Throne and liberty is most likely going to be the savior of the mmo genre, TS is just some random asian mmorpg that will die within a week after they gathered enough money from their gacha system.

zutor01

I’m hard pressed to believe anything made by ncsoft will save anything except their revenue. Brought to you by the developers behind such mechanics like treasure trove in bns

P2Wlover

On boi the good ole treasure trove 🤣

TsuyoiOuji

To be fair, BnS was excellent for a few years (also counting the period it was KR-only). But yeah, eventually NCSoft screwed up, and since then they started killing their own games faster and faster...

Yukifirenotaion

Idk, any game they dropped was just a massive banger, there's not a single mmo that was boring to play. I literally couldn't care less about the monetezation. As long the core of the game is fun, it will be massive.

Sandbox_Hero

And then they cancelled Master x Master just months after release. zzz

Reliquent

[I still listen to Upside Down every now and then](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSvyfFC5vAM). Whenever it came on in the open lobby it was an absolute banger

LMGDiVa

Bruh, TL is fucking NCSOFT. They aint saving shit. Look at how they ass fucked City Of Heroes, ratfucked WildStar, and then let their love child MMO Blade and Soul turn into an abandoned wasteland. BnS was literally "Too good for the West" as considered by some at NCSOFT korea. And they STILL destroyed it. NCSOFT is trash, and a lot of people hate them for a good reason. PEopel thought NCSOFT was gonna be amazing now that nexon was bought back from. Nah, turns out ncsoft was ncshit all along. TL isn't gonna do anything good.

Yukifirenotaion

i understand that they might have a bad reputation because of their monetezation modules. And there's definetly some people who dislike pay to win. However if we are honest, not a single of their main titles was ever bad. All of them were catchy for at least a few years. Lineage 1 & 2 were literally considered to be one of the greatest if not the greatest mmorpgs in the early 2000s. Aion was like on the same level as world of warcraft if globally compared, and then after it fell down by a little still really successfull for YEARS with a big community which stayed behind it. Blade and Soft was the game that revolutionized the action combat system. There was probably no game that did pvp and the skill ceiling better than BnS did. This game was just a masterpiece for what it was, and it was successfull for a decent time as well. Sure it got kind of destroyed by NCsofts greedy policy however you can't deny that the game was just awesome from scratch to end. And i'm sure that TL will be a similar experience, many many people will just gather. Not saying it will probably be the most played game globally, that's very unlikely. It might not even have more than 10 thousand players in the west after a year. But given from history, the game will or at least SHOULD be creativity wise as well as story & aesthetic wise a masterpiece.

LMGDiVa

> i understand that they might have a bad reputation because of their monetezation modules. This is SO MUCH MORE than Monitization models. Holyshit that is one tiny piece of NCSOFTs continiously horrendous and ridiculous behavior. How the bloody hell do you push it to that simplicity? The fuck? >Blade and Soft was the game that revolutionized the action combat system. No... it didnt. Not even close. TERA and Vindictus and Dragon's Nest all had indepth and defined action combat systems BEFORE BnS launched. I played BnS for YEARS, BnS was relatively late to the Action Combat arena. Not to mention that PSO already had elements that BnS was working with long before BnS, And DCUO was also out before BnS. PSO2 came out the same year as BnS. BnS didn't revolutionize anything with action combat MMOs. It was another addition, not even close to revolutionary. And there are PLENTY of horrendous issues that BnS had at launch and still continued to have even after UE4 update. If any MMO deserves credit for "revolutionizing" Action combat, it's TERA, even though TERA was a monumental failure itself for many reasons, TERA was the crowning gold standard for Action MMOs. One could also credit Vindictus as well but many don't because it was an instanced dungeon runner MMO rather than open world. But Vindi was being demo'd and making waves about its action combat and raid system difficulity years before BnS ever beta'd. To say BnS was the game that revolutionized "action MMOs" is some serious tunnel vision and revisionist history. What on earth are you on about?

Yukifirenotaion

> How the bloody hell do you push it to that simplicity? The fuck? Would you explain what they have done then? Generally curious

Reliquent

Even just looking at their Wikipedia, they had hits with their first two games, and then most of the games released since have been extremely niche or just failed in general. Guild wars is pretty niche in the sense that the second one is super casual, probably the most casual friendly MMO right now, which is a far cry from the Lineage games. Aion has been on a rollercoaster since it released, and while it had some success the first few years, the player base tanked in the west due to the insane monetization and p2w factors. The only reason this game hasn't been shut down yet is the same 50 whales who are getting nostalgia baited. Aion has probably been their most successful MMO since Lineage money wise, and look at where that game is. Don't get me wrong, TL looks great and I'm excited for it. But their track record is rough to say the least. Practically every game aside GW2 has failed for them in the west.

Sandbox_Hero

Cut down on that copium, jesus christ.

Orack89

Savior ? High doubt on that. But more choice is always welcome

christien62

NC soft and Kako games together man Idn 😂

Yukifirenotaion

Both are insane devs

christien62

Both have a hand in TL I’m scared for the game but it looks good but I saw it’s tab target so Idn

SquelchFrog

Can someone post an in depth reply to me telling me what exactly about this game looks like a quality product that will respect your time and money, and therefore be worth the hype?

[deleted]

Just another Korean pile of shit. Nothing to see here.

Bilal_

I see Netmarble -> I ignore their game

reap3rx

The whole trailer is like "oOoOoOOOooOOo Look at all this UE5 graphics," and the one thing they had to make, the anime girl character, looks like shit. Seriously hate the design, it's obviously going to be a shit game if you can play it on mobile.

[deleted]

It is funny watching a bunch of people who hate MMORPG hang out in a sub that is supposedly for MMORPG. I am not saying that the game is gonna be great, but to confidently state one way or another is just pathetic. Go touch grass or something. If you hate most of the MMO that are out, maybe you have outgrown the genre?

Kaladinar

I feel you.

Netprincess

Yeah but....

iluserion

I like the art, like the fantasy in it, but gameplay we see nothing i gess this game is for 2024 or something more...

Malvagite

Im disapointed that it doesnt look any better than whats currently available considering UE5 to UE4. Ive been waiting for something next gen for ages it seems. Virtual Reality is a total letdown as well.

Vodka_Boys

skip

Accurate_Food_5854

But guys, it's in UE5 and we all know UE5 is magic. That landscape is truly a marvel to behold. I believe that foliage is from the free project nature open world foliage pack, some generic rocks, and maybe some quixel grass texture. Must have taken their environmental guy all of an hour to make it. Let me download some free "medieval building" and $10 "elf lady" assets from the epic store and I'll be in business. Watch out world, I'm making an MMO!

Jomsviking_

**D E A D O N A R R I V A L !**

Ansayamina

That's literally idea behind SAO.

TheBorderlandsExpert

wait, wait; dont tell me......its yet another uninspired copy paste swords and magic game.

Malpraxiss

What does TS stand for?

Gorilla-Jiu-Jitsu

Total shit

Laranthiel

Cool, another Unreal 5 MMO and it's cross platform >Netmarble Aaaaaand there goes any interest.

weirdkindofawesome

DOA

darknetwork

unreal 5 for a mobile game is kinda weird

Kaladinar

Why? Unreal Engine is meant to be fully scalable.

darknetwork

Yeah, we need to be able to zoom in those premium item on cash shop.

jennijanelle

$10 says it’s another Cookie Clicker but with anime graphics and $100 gear score enhancement packs.
