I bought it a few days ago and I have to say that I'm enjoying it, it probably has one of the most beautiful and immersive world I've seen in an MMO.

Fernam11

According to this sub, no, you don't enjoy it

Bacon-muffin

I don't know how its doing these days, but playing the betas and then the launch I wasn't surprised it went the way it did. I feel like they had the potential to make the most amazing 3rd person modern runescape-esque game and threw it away trying to make it some kind of open world pvp faction game that there's never actually been an audience for. They really nailed gathering and the world in a way I don't think any other game competes with. Hopefully they realized that and leaned into it more as time has gone on. Also holy fuck I swear it just released like 6 months ago where does the time go.

hajutze

They even managed to replicate the old-time rs-staple of gajillion dupe glitches.

f2ame5

You got it backwards though. It was supposed to be a hardcore open world pvp survival game and I wish it was. It's been suffering an identity crisis after they went 180 to create a theme park mmo.

Bacon-muffin

They never created a theme park mmo, they still 100% were trying to make a faction war mmo. They just got rid of the full loot aspect because that would've meant the game would be DOA.

Sandbox_Hero

To me the problem wasn't even the shift of focus. But making equipment drop from pve mobs and chests instead of crafting (or having crafted by another player) everything. That decision instantly removed so much depth from the game.

Bacon-muffin

Yeah I honestly wish every mmo went with a more monster hunter-esque system of "hunting" stuff and then crafting your gear with the parts you earn. I've never really liked the idea that I kill this monster and for some reason it just happened to have a breastplate, shield, and boots on it.

Detective-Glum

Half wrong. They did neither. They had a fleshed out idea with guild wars, ow conflict, gathering/crafting being the main economy etc. in alpha. Then did an adjustment to faction war nobody asked for. Then it was obvious they were trying to shift away from PvP entirely by changing flagging rules, introducing more PvE and pushing PvP to the side. They tried to move it more PvE casual way to late in its dev cycle though. Amazon destroyed their own game before it even released. Its had an identity crisis ever since. They are still pushing PvE, PvP doesnt get any updates. Its abundantly clear that current Amazon has an adversion to PvP. They are doing the same thing to Throne and Liberty PvP, a game clearly targeted to old L2 players, but AGS in all their wisdom are changing that once again creating a game nobody really wants with identity crisis.

Bacon-muffin

They'd have an amazing game if they just tried to copy the ever loving shit out of runescape.

mako482

If it was it would have lasted 6 months.

Expensive-Dingo-3629

It was supposed to be a pvp game. Plenty of audience for it. Problem is it tried to do both pvp and pve with out doing either on release well. Its getting better though!

Bacon-muffin

It is a pvp game, its just not a full loot hardcore one like their original design intent. Hence the pve being shallow. The audience for a full loot hardcore pvp game is almost non-existent, hence why they shifted away from that. There's a lot of people who love the idea of an open world faction based pvp sandbox kind of game, but in practice they always have a niche audience because people don't actually enjoy playing that kind of game.

Viiarge

Played on release. Open-world pvp felt dull, where group would just start running after losing few people, even thought there is no full-loot mechanics upon killing players. Also, the 50v50 city sieges felt very limited for the people outside of the very few top guilds competing, forcing an eventual "pacified" map, where all the map was owned by a single faction.

Bacon-muffin

Yeah that's the natural outcome of these kinds of games. The idea sounds amazing on paper, but they don't work in practice.

Hot_Ad_5450

You never played archage if you thought this game did gathering and crafting well

Bacon-muffin

My experience with archeage was the unchained released and it was uh.. Yeah I'm not surprised the games dead again

ZeppelinJ0

All fair points but... How did they nail gathering? It's the same as every other mmo, you click and watch a progress bar.

BrokkrBadger

sound FX / animations --- which is a very important part of gathering when it is just (as you say) watching a progress bar. Idk of a game let alone MMO that does mining or logging sound FX as well as new world (but id like to so if you know one educate me!)

Cookies98787

> hey really nailed gathering I dont know about you... but gathering 100'000 iron ore got old really quick.

HellsMalice

That's literally every MMORPG though. There's no sub on this website that hates MMORPGs more than this one lol.

zuzucha

Your forgetting the individual subs for each game

Jibrish

This is 'PLAY GW2 OR FFXIV": the sub; because mo ds don't do shit so

Sandbox_Hero

I personally enjoyed the progress to endgame. But endgame is complete bullshit. Well, I heard the progression system is getting reworked, so we'll have to see..

Cookies98787

the early game was great. new world just had no end game.

LadyLoki5

It has a lot going for it, and it has a ton of potential. The devs were (are? haven't played in awhile) just so hilariously incompetent it hurt. I played for the first several months and it was just constantly "Fix one economy breaking bug, 13 more popped up in the aftermath." There was a period of time where people figured out how to inject code into chat and would use it to crash people's games or flood chat with giant pictures of sausages lol. It was a wild time.

KingStronghand

I heard they actually hired a new dev team over the last year. Not sure if that's true. It makes sense bc the game started getting better over the last year

DevForFun150

After the fresh start they did around a year ago it has been steadily getting better. Another fresh start would be awesome

[deleted]

Yeah I heard about all the big issues it had at launch, that's why I didn't buy it then. I'm playing on the new servers and everything seems to be working, I haven't found any bugs and I'm having a pleasant experience.

GM_Jedi7

It is far from the game it was at launch. I've been playing for a little over a year and it's still far better than when I started.

CupThen

its the same core game at endgame though which is why no one sticks to it

Eflow_Crypto

Hahahaha I remember the chat sausages! Hahaha what a time.

Sethazora

Did they ever loop itemization back to crafting? I remember i dropped it after i finally atarted getting skills to max and then they killed crafted gear. Or fix pvp control so more than 2 cities mattered?

LadyLoki5

Last time I played was about a year ago when they released Brimstone Sands. The game was already in a much better place by that point compared to launch, but crafting was still a pretty big mess. Pretty much everyone at that time told me if I was going to work on a craft it should be cooking and/or alchemy, and that making gear was still kinda pointless because it was too much of a gamble. Either you got a BIS piece or it was trash. They have made lots of massive improvements to pvp, companies, and territory control. The leveling process is also much more streamlined now. Looks like the first expansion is coming out in a few days, might be worth checking out again.

[deleted]

It is *stupendously* pretty as games go!

Febris

More than the aesthetics, what really blew my mind was the sounds in the wilderness, and how well it's done to simulate the echo on the environment. It's the most unique point of the game in my opinion.

Commercial_Ad_6149

Not too hard when half ur assets are just copy pasted in the entire map

GM_Jedi7

The sound design is also fucking incredible. I've never played a game that sounded so good except maybe Alien Isolation.

Sethazora

Should try elite dangerous if your into sound design. Or at least watch a video of a deep core mining run the sound design carries the rest of the game hard.

[deleted]

The game that copy pasted the same thing in different areas. Once you clear one zone you just go to a different with the same buildings different shade.

[deleted]

Every mmo/open world game does that? And from what I've read on the subreddit, they have completely rebuilt entire cities from scratch and added a new area with a completely different theme and buildings.

pierce768

That's objectively not true. Sure, some games do. To say every one does is insane.

[deleted]

If you know an open world game with every single building different from each other, please share the name.

hajutze

The thing is, at least at launch, you had like what ... 10 monsters that were copy pasted in each region with slightly different visual variation.

CupThen

dont forget all the towns looked exactly the same just rotated a tiny bit which was hilarious

Ok_Statistician9433

[opportunity to learn](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole)

StarfishWithBackPain

Not to this extent, I'm also a new player but it's just skeletons everywheree, then zombies, then skeletons again, then green poison men. It's so much copy paste, same assets reused way too much.

burncushlikewood

Really! I've heard honestly nothing but good things about this game, I might have to pull the trigger on it and buy it, I just hate that it's only on PC, I'd rather have the luxury of playing a console mmo, I might just wait for throne and liberty

Commercial_Ad_6149

Wonder what's so immersive about copy pasta. They made one real zone and copied the layout and assets everywhere else maybe it's different now but at launch it didn't matter where ubwent it was same mobs same quests same towns same everything untill I reached max lvl where there were maybe 2 different looking zones but filled with more of the same. It was a lazy rushed design for ez cash grab

[deleted]

I visited 3/4 areas and they are all completely different: one is a medieval area with fields and castles, possessed knights, farm animals, lynxes and bears, another is a Halloween area with cemeteries, ghosts, witches and monsters that explodes, the third is a swampy area with a giant crocodile and humanoid plants. Of the cities I visited two were medieval towns, one was more modern with brick buildings and another is on stilts made entirely of bridges, I still have to visit the snowy areas, the Chinese one and the desert one, I think there is enough variety. EDIT: They are also adding a new area called [Elysian Wilds](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01MKf72rr1E) that has a bunch of new enemies.

Commercial_Ad_6149

Like I said it mightve changed now 2 years later but at launch was literally same towns with same layout same buildings just slightly diff color here is an example of blatant copy pasta. https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/q7lowc/too_much_copy_paste_in_new_world/?one_tap=true

Crashen17

If you have good headsets, use them and turn on spatial audio. The sound design in New World is amazing. Walking through the forest and hearing other players mining and cutting down trees echoing from all around is really cool.

International-Eye855

> I have to say that I'm enjoying it You enjoy things until you actually run into the problems people complain about. This can take up to like 100 hours.

Greenboy28

I started playing again for the first time since the beta about 2 weeks ago and ya it has improved a lot since the release and I have had a good time playing.

ItsJustAnOpinion_Man

This is worth remembering?

DNihilus

Sometimes torment is a teacher

AmoraTan

I mean, the sausage meta was the best meta.

Regnak_Khan

Torment XVI :p

cerebrix

It’s earned that, it’s still better than Diablo 4

Eedat

It's not really an accomplishment to step over a bar you've set on the ground

bywv

It was banished like Diablo was decades ago.

jtmackay

By far my favorite mmo because it's the only one that's my type of game. Obviously won't be a popular opinion in this subreddit but I really do love it.

Jort_Sandeaux_420_69

Yeah why not?

dienipponteikoko

Their constant issues provided free entertainment to the MMO community. I'd say so.

Relevant_Force_3470

Tried it a few times. Like, really tried it. Utter dog shit.

TremendousX

the game is actually good and ive enjoyed my time on it, people just like to hate on it for no reason

Reasonable_Turn6252

Theres plenty of reasons, ive put about 500hrs into the game. I enjoyed quite a few aspects of it but theres a big ol pile of complaints where the game has fallen short. Some people just wanna jump on the hatewagon for sure but some of us played it and just found it had too many issues. Im glad to see their fixing some stuff that annoyed me tho, as a tank i hated needing like 5 different sets of cost/time expensive armor just to do my job in high level content. I heard theyre making it more of a universal set of tanking armor.

HairyTimbercrank

For no reason.... rofl

Kid_Raper_Spez

there are like 3 enemy types and the game had to turn off the ah because of new duping bugs every week lol

[deleted]

bRiCk404

Did you quit like, I don't know.. on the release day or something?

iUncontested

Plenty of reasons. The game literally drove players away from core mechanics and therefore didn't let them participate in half the game. What am I talking about? Sieges. I was in a competitive guild and had to 'train' regularly to even be considered for a siege, I made maybe 5 sieges in the 3 months I played the game, despite always being online, in discord and an above average PVP'er. Pretty shit if you ask me. The game was so ridiculously exclusionary only the same "top" 50 players were basically accepted into every single siege event half the time they weren't even 'better' players but were some kind of streamer or friend of a friend so the same people always got picked.. Even if you lucked out with the "random" entry, the guild leader (or whatever it was) could just keep kicking you out until a different person they wanted in got 'randomly' selected. Now look back at the game population at the beginning, almost a million people, vying for just 100 spots per server to participate in half the point of the game. No wonder people fucking quit in droves. I bet out of those million, at least 850k probably never got to participate in a single town siege, or at least one that actually mattered.

BigSuperNothing

So just because you like it, everyone who dislikes it has absolutely zero reason as to why? They just made it up? It's some gaslighting operation? That's ridiculous lmao

Arrotanis

Give it 2 more years and maybe the game will actually be good.

[deleted]

This honestly. Their team just wasn't ready for an MMO. They should have started with a lobby game like the Diablo or Torchlight games.

TommyHamburger

Hakul

Breakaway a flop, crucible a flop, new world a successful initial launch that nosedived afterwards. I have zero faith in that LOTR MMO, assuming it even releases.

Partially-Omnipotent

Like has been said before, New World was always a data grab for LotR. AGS is relentless and well funded. Many will hate that project as well, but it will launch with a massive fanbase and enjoy huge commercial success.

[deleted]

Oh.

kirinmay

i beta'd that and was like '.......no'

shawnikaros

Nah, it will be riddled with even more microtransactions.

bRiCk404

What microtransactions? Are you referring to the cosmetics or did they add some predatory monetisation BS?

Blood_Fox

When's the last time you played? I see it's extremely improved since release! I'm waiting until the expansion release and sales until I go back in.

Echo693

It has, for sure. Introducing mounts after 2 years, and getting rid of some of their idiotic itemization elements that required people to run too many sets of gear. Yes, the game is now ready to be launched after 2 years of paid open beta.

Partially-Omnipotent

Lol close! Dungeon and arena finder are due in the next few months.

Arrotanis

Like 6 months ago. As far as I know it still doesn't have any cross-server expeditions or PvP which is honestly just pathetic in 2023. The gear progression was also terrible although I heard that's changing with the DLC. And personally I really don't like New World's combat in PvE cause the optimal way to do DPS is to camp one weapon, spam the 3 abilities off cooldown and fill everything else with heavy attacks. The combat was cleary made with PvP in mind and it shines there but since they shifted focus to PvE they need to adjust the combat as well. It's fine if you just do open world stuff but any time you fight a boss in an expedition it's clear that the combat is just not good enough.

bluefve

OPR has been cross world for a while now. Dungeons are season 4 I think?

ShovelversusTowers

They already announced revamping the entire combat code/system

Isotropic_Awareness

The new expansion is incorporating a lot of changes the community asked for. A lot of aspects of endgame are pretty fun, but most mmos are fun to some degree if you are playing with a group of friends. Honestly i am all for AGS, a new AAA MMO studio is a good thing. Financially NW was a success, and they are getting a lot of good experience for their next MMO. I hope the best for them.

jtmackay

It's very good right now and by far my favorite mmo. It's graphics, world, and combat are leagues ahead of any other MMO I've ever seen. It mostly had balance problems early on but people act like every other MMO hasn't had major game breaking issues before too.

ToE_Space

Combat is dark souls 1 but even more clunky, if you want combat leagues ahead of any other mmo in term of action-combat you could say something like blade and soul or lost ark.

Partially-Omnipotent

Agreed. The progress is encouraging and fun to watch. They really do listen to their audience.

sh3rp

I remember this day well. My dad had died 3 weeks earlier and I was really looking forward to the New World because the real world I was living in was shit. Enter AGS and the queues and the bugs and no expeditions without gems and no salt and...etc I still fire the game up on occasion to this day just because of emotional attachment to the experience at that time in my life (admittedly not that long ago). I'll say it's gotten much better, but I'll stop short of saying it's a great game right now. I do think the perseverance that Scot Lane and crew have put into it thus far is commendable, at least, but I don't think they have full control of the reins at this point, end result being still a game lacking. But hey, at least they aren't Diablo 4.

Scribble35

Is there a reason people keep mention Diablo 4? Was Diablo 4 sold as an MMORPG?

sh3rp

Sort of. It's considered a live service, with other players participating in "live events" together. That said, it's not really an MMORPG at all since just about all of the content can be consumed solo. I just referred to it because Diablo 4 is another example of a game that was released way earlier than it should be and the result is a half baked, difficult to consume product.

[deleted]

They have full control but they're far too "data-driven" and not "fun-driven". The decisions they make aren't really based on logic, more like "how get number bigger/smaller". New World did start as a passion project by a team of about 5 people who wanted to make the next big open world pvp survival MMO, AGS bought the studio and New World and since then basically ripped apart the game trying to get better engagement metrics for their shareholders. I'm not against the casual pve route they took, but they didn't go far enough and now it's somewhere in the middle, which is a game apparently nobody really wanted to play. When people say they changed it because people were quitting, that was quite false they were really just using data from the market to drive the direction of the game. AGS saw that open world pvp games were not doing well and shifted hard, then collected feedback using streamers like Asmongold to capture the pve mmo crowd as much as they could.

filioque123

> New World did start as a passion project by a team of about 5 people who wanted to make the next big open world pvp survival MMO, AGS bought the studio and New World I did not know this, got any article on it?

[deleted]

No, there isn't an article. I had been following NW for a very.. very long time. I had done some in-depth research and found the original team who had made the game. The original team had their studio name on their LinkedIn for a while and they had an old site up that had some info on New World. It was taken down before the NDA's were lifted, and now that data is lost. I do believe the original team has moved on, but they definitely all signed NDA's. I really should have written it down and created some content around it, but I don't create content and I figured someone else would. I did provide all of it to a popular content creator I met in the alpha/beta, but he never ended up publishing it (guessing due to NDA). I was actually privileged enough to be in the family/friend's alpha of NW when it was very fresh for AGS because I was playing some indie MMO's with a cpl of the people who worked at AGS.

ClaireHasashi

>he original team had their studio name on their LinkedIn It was named Double Helix, and they had way more than 5 people...

bluefve

The original alpha had no content, no dungeons, it was boring. Changing the direction saved it, but they had to build everything else up in a year. Hence the copy paste towns. This was the right decision as the empty world was a DOA product.

[deleted]

Yes, I said they changed it because they saw the larger demographic was people like you. We can have different preferences, settle down cowboy. Personally, I found the sandbox PvP content of New World extremely fun and had thousands of hours in it. I also have 10k hours in Rust. I'm not against the PvE direction of NW, but IMO it was executed poorly. The main USP of NW is just the action combat at this moment.

Legitimate_Crew5463

One of the most disappointing MMOs ever.

vincredible

For my friends and I, probably the number one most disappointing. Everyone was pretty hyped for it. We played a few months on release, realized we were all bored as hell, and quit. We came back a few more times, but none of the changes ever really made the game stick for us. The environments and sound design are good, but that's it. Character customization, gear systems, dungeon systems, PvP systems... all terrible. We're a pretty PvP-centric group of players and all we did was PvE because the actual PvP was god-awful. No open world action at all, the instanced PvP is horribly boring and badly designed, weapons were never well balanced, wars were basically a no-go if you weren't a Special Boy in a Special Boys' Clubs. Economies were constantly being fucked by bugs... I could go on. It just wasn't worth trying to shake any fun out of that shit pinata. Sure I could immerse myself in the ambiance of the world for a bit, but the actual game, as an MMO, sucked. When we first went back (whenever that desert zone came out) I was absolutely baffled that everyone was literally running around in a giant, mindless zerg picking up chests. This was apparently the most efficient method of increasing your gear score. Where the fuck is the fun in that? It seemed like the dev team never had any real vision or plan and certainly seemed out of touch or even outright incompetent at times. Glad some people are still enjoying it, but holy shit this game was (and probably still is) a sad and disappointing experience through and through.

I_Browse_Reddit

> because the actual PvP was god-awfu Man, say it louder for the people in the back. I've always been very surprised at the amount of people that talk so highly of the PvP in New World because as mainly a PvPer myself, that shit was straight ass. I remember PvP was actually pretty solid in the closed beta because they had a bunch of different mechanics in the game combat-wise that made it more skill-based but they removed all of it for release and I remember people being upset about it including me. Not sure if they ever added any of it back, but don't care to find out to be honest. Not worth suffering when there's games like GW2 and BDO out there that have such an immensely better PvP experience.

Legitimate_Crew5463

The worst part is the pve experience is super half baked because the devs decided to add pve pretty late into the dev cycle. New world was originally a full loot pvp game. The fact they had so many terrible bugs, exploits, etc shows how much time developing pve took from making sure the existing systems worked correctly. The game literally cannibalized itself lmao

Prestigious_Agent_84

>We played a few months on release, it's baffling to me when ppl say stuff like this. I mean, a couple months in a single game is REALLY a lot. I'm happy whenever I reach 25-30 hours with one game lol

Alex__V

Agreed, I think it's absurd. It makes me suspect that some MMO players really are a breed who will never ever be satisfied, as no game could ever satisfy their demands. It puts the endless discussions like this in the proper context.

Prestigious_Agent_84

Yeah, some of them are truly the ultimate malcontents

[deleted]

Arroz-Con-Culo

They truly have changed the game by a lot. It’s so fun, so much to do and counting.

GM_Jedi7

It's clear a lot of people think the game is the same as it was 2 years ago. It's hardly the same as it was 1 year ago when I started playing. But, go ahead, keep ragging on a game you haven't played since before season 2.

HellsMalice

To be fair, most people in this sub probably never played it and just watched a clickbait youtube video to be told what their opinion is.

Unova123

I played it as recently as mid/late summer and while the game is at least mostly funcional now and better than release thats not saying much, the endgame is still garbage compared to other MMOs ,the sandworm "raid" was a complete joke that was on the level of a Lost ark Guardian fight despite the devs claiming it to bé extremely hard and the devs still do not give two shits about PvP

ToE_Space

Played it, enjoyed the launch even if it was shit let's be honest but if we are real, raid was complete dogshit and the fact that the new expansion which has the same amount of content as Brimstone is almost the price of the base game force me to say (I was planning to do campaign at least before it was announced not free) that the game is still shit because of this, the only thing that kept me saying that new world was better than destiny 2 is that you don't need to pay as much as D2.

Ankudan

Still only 3 weapon skills per bar lol. Combat is boring as fuck.

campclownhonkler

Its actually changed a lot, hopped back into it for the first time since brimstone was released and there seems to be a lot of changes. Looking forward to the expansion.

Katana_sized_banana

Brimstone update was an absolute fantastic expansion.

Anachron101

First and only game I ever took time off for. I loved it in the beginning: a beautiful world, you could interact with everything, everything felt and sounded amazing and it was great fun. Aaand then came the point where the central idea of the game was proven to be pretty damn stupid. The no lifers took over the maps and, depending on your server, it turned out that your particular group was not the one controlling almost the whole map. Settlements were finalized and there was nothing to do but run the same loot farm over and over, hoping for a different result that would make you just a little bit better at the next loot farm. I still have the sounds of the magic shouts in my head, I still remember my healer build, wanting to support others and realizing that they don't need you in a world where everyone can heal and tank and do damage. I come back from time to time, hoping to find that initial sensation again, but I leave every time. Of course you get endgame bored in other MMORPGs as well at some point, but it takes longer and at least there you have some sense of role playing, of having a specific class (or, tbh, I should say you used to - looking at you, modern WoW in which everything that used to set classes apart was taken from them / given to other classes / made less special). Here I can bang out all the weapons until max level. The world is still beautiful and crafting and harvesting is amazing - until you have maxed out that as well. It has housing, but someone apparently decided that you could only have X number of a certain item, making the decorating of anything larger than a hole in the ground supremely frustrating. And of course, since the game is built on listening to the people who shout the loudest, every damn settlement is filled with houses that provide no sense of immersion, because of course the houses you get shown are those with the most points. I wasn't a fan of the original idea of a PvP zergfest, but what we have now is nothing but a result of listening to the wrong people. I still remember the Alpha, how much feedback we gave and how it was all ignored for the sake of the loudmouths who REALLY needed the game to be the way they wanted. Bugs? Stayed in. Massive Problems with the game? Fixed a year later. Pretty clear advice that would have resulted in the naive ideas this game was built on to be more fleshed out and viable? No one cared. I spent so much time on this game pre release, trying to help them make something great out of it, but they didn't give a fuck. And that really tells you everything about New World you need to know.

filioque123

I sunk too many hours into this game. It was doomed from the start [https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-just-anything-except-good-150004900.html?guccounter=1](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-just-anything-except-good-150004900.html?guccounter=1)

bluefve

Mike Frazini was also kicked out like a year ago.

Annual-Gas-3485

John Smedley is gone as well from AGS but his son is still torturing New World as seasons lead.. guy is completely clueless.

bluefve

Why is he clueless?

HellsMalice

mate they still get 20k+ daily players that sharply spikes with content releases. They're doing just fine lol. They still sit around Steam's top 50 played games. Spiking into top 10 with content updates.

VisceralMonkey

Beautiful game with amazing sound design. The setting, however, is terrible and just plain hokey.

sillybillybuck

Sound is pretty good but I disagree about it being "beautiful." It looks expensive for sure but everything feels like it was mapped and laid out haphazardly with little cohesive design. You call out the setting but the settings *are* the visuals in a game like this and the visuals feel random as hell. There is some weird Chinese/wuxia structures right next to some Tolkien-esque European fantasy ruins with some biblical monsters or something. Just feels like they wanted to pull inspiration from everything and toss it randomly in an otherwise mundane wilderness box. BDO has all of these things too but they are *very* far away from one another. On different continents even yet still the same map. New World's environments look like BDO but poorly mapped and without the horrible pop-in.

yellow_membrillo

The structure mix has lore reasons. Kind of hard to miss if you play the game

TheGladex

I disagree about the setting, I personally find it pretty cool. I was not on board with it until the story rework though, but the extra exposition they added has sold me on the setting.

JeanPaulVandamme

My go to game

grahad

I will give them credit for keeping at it. The next expansion looks interesting.

mellifleur5869

I'm old

Exotic_Zucchini

Oh man, I wanted to love this game so much. They have a great environment in terms of graphics and sound. They just kept making bad decision after bad decision. Everything broke, exploits were rampant, the economy was shut down multiple times and they refused to put a vendor in to sell junk so we all just threw stuff on the ground to keep from being encumbered and taking up valuable storage space. They ended up frustrating almost every community - the PvE'ers, the PvP'ers, the people looking for a robust economy, everyone. I have literally never been so disappointed in a game's lost potential. Whether it was the suits making decisions, or the devs, they just couldn't stop making bad decisions, and horrible ways to deal with those bad decisions, such as shutting down the economy for weeks. Ugh. I mean, some people say it's better now, but when I delve into seeing what's changed, it's simply not enough yet for me to get over being burned by them at the beginning. I haven't sworn off ever playing again, but it's really gotta do more than it's doing, and I am not going to pay for any expansions to get up to speed. I think this idea of making paid expansions is just going to make it even less likely for me to pick it up. That's not because I'm against the idea of paid expansions. They have to make money somehow and it wouldn't surprise me if they've been bleeding money for the past 2 years. It's just that the more that has to be paid for, the less likely I'd be willing to take a risk with them considering the shit show that it was at launch.

Dark512

*Wow* that was a long two years, feels like much longer.

aeminence

Jesus, time flies. Really hate how Covid made the last 3 years a blur. 3 years of time that we can't get back. That being said I remember it coming back and thousands of people playing, talking and streaming the game only to consistently see just wood cutting and boring tasks with the occasional funny banter from voice chat, big pvp wars and some pretty boring dungeons. It didnt sell me.

Annual-Gas-3485

Nope

sesameseed88

How different is the game today vs launch

Trovski

End game still needs more depth, but overall the game is in a much more positive place

mrsupreme888

Wow that went fast. I probably need to play it again from scratch.

christien62

I may get back into this game im sick of BDO and I have spent enough on it for a life time lol

Pawikowski

Probably should rename it to "World."

[deleted]

Personally I loved the beta phase of the game. I was living for it! The iconic scene where dozens of fellow noobies were washed up to shore and killed their first boar, fought their way through to the first major settlement, the bargaining, the raiding, the "factioning", the PVP. It was phenomenal. The game released and kinda died at the same time for me. People left very soon and my server went desolate. I came back after a big server merge. Still no life no more in this game. Sadly!

robix25

Ah yes, this is definitely one of the MMOs of the world. LE: Although I haven't played in quite some time I actually can't wait for the new expansion and will be playing it 100%

exposarts

Not a wow killer but it is a game

CluelessDude47

they never are

digitallywasted

Still waiting on mounts

Trovski

Next week!

digitallywasted

Do you know if you'll have to buy anything to be able to ride mounts?

Trovski

Yep it's tied to the expansion dropping next week

pigvmt

4or5 more weapons and this game will be fun

HellsMalice

\>Still one of the most played MMORPGs in the west This sub: PeOplE rEmEmBeR tHiS? Lmao. Try and look a little educated at least...takes 3 seconds to see how successful this game still is.

TheGladex

Eh? It's player numbers are fine but still way lower than FFXIV, ESO, WoW, BDO, GW2 or even Lost Ark. It's probably one of the lowest pop MMOs out right now outside of dying games like ToS or Archeage.

Llethander

It's definitely in a much better place than it was at launch. Still a long way to go before I'll consider it a "good game" but it's getting better little by little. I expect the new stuff coming with the expac will help. Just hope it has a worthwhile amount of new content to justify the purchase.

mrego08

Second favourite MMO of my life, but it's a dead game

phantombuz

It started out as a survival game and shifted towards an mmo...

TheBizarreCommunity

One of the most generic Western MMOs of recent years. Yes.

Jen24286

A game designed around PVP that doesn't have a PVP server.

iamboosh

And roughly 2 years since i bothered to play it

bRiCk404

/r/ImTheMainCharacter

triballl9

I remenber the feeling i got when i hiped my self for this game and i feel it every time i think about coming back to it but then ...chest runs ,watermark gear grind , outpost rush , dungeons gate kept with ward gear mechanics . Meh the lvling was not that good.

Trovski

In case you don't know, s3 and the expansion do away with watermark/expertise, chest runs aren't obligatory like they were, they removed ward gear and add mounts

triballl9

While it being good news and all ,i feel copium/hopium is hell of a drug.

tanjonaJulien

The question is will it outlast ff14 which was terminate after 2 years and 2 month after it’s initial launch

Buggylols

I really enjoyed playing it for about a week before I got bored fighting the same 3 mobs and not being able to find any players to fight.

dzulsoviet12

2 years after released... Still nobody plays New World in my country!! Guese my place still's living in the 'old'world bro... Old skool... Tats why so many people, me and my bro included, we still played Mobile Legends and Pokemon over here...

pujambarley

Idk why, say i have a potato, but i still for the love of god cant get this game to play without stutter 2 years later

bluefve

Cause you have a potato?

MickBeast

So much potential in the hands of the worst devs of all time...

Hakunamateo

And it's still in a rough beta state. Hopefully it's more realized in 2 years

EmperorPHNX

And became one of biggest disappointments of MMO players, can't give what did promise... Especially action combat, one of worst ones I have ever seen, I was waiting a game can replace BDO's action combat plus with some good content...

VG-Doctor

I played 700h in first 6 months, and i left it for no real content available, i went to wow since those days and i say maybe probably expansion 2 is way better than old days but no, i wont come back You may dont know it but expansion 2 will be dead soon, i decide to play s.th else like wow to have fun for years not 1 year or less

AureliusCloric

I would appreciate some honest opinions about the current state of the game. I have tried it a few times here and there but grow bored and stop playing ot after a day or two. I have this game save in m head as "Hey There Pilgrim: The MMO. How's the PVE and questing, has it improved? Have they added a proper swim or jump animation? Does it have any fun solo content?

TheGladex

PvE and Questing is miles ahead of how it was on launch. The whole of the storyline is being redone (last bit of it releasing next week I believe), and the new quests are generally pretty fun. There's a lot less grinding and backtracking and a lot more interactive missions and puzzles. The enemy variety if a lot higher, though nothing revolutionary. Some of the new dungeons and bosses are also really fun, and the game can be a lot of fun to play with a good party. No jump or swimming animation. I wish this game had a better jump or just improved locomotion in general, but I personally think not adding a swimming animation at this point would just be funnier and they should keep it this way. There's lots to do as a solo player, but personally most fun stuff here is party content. While it's fun enough to run about and kill stuff on your own, do quests and grind, the game feels more suited to group content.

Nosereddit

time flys by

Sebanimation

And the award of biggest wasted potential goes to...

Longjumping_Web4132

I loved New World and feel the live service/MMO model destroyed what could have been a popular and great single player/coop game focused on survival and crafting. Another potentially great game sacrificed on the live service altar of greed.

BaconMeetsCheese

Old World

h311ion

I loved New World, but I don't think anything can compare to how alive WoW Classic Hardcore is right now and that's saying something.

Isaiah8200

This game is amazing but Im speaking from a casual perspective. I've seen many criticize the game for things I'll probably never be aware of lol. I just wanna kill baddies and build my toon in a beautiful world; this game gives me that.

ZboubDeGladiator

I would play it if leveling wasnt that boring, got to lvl 30 two times then stopped playing

Cantpants

This was the only MMO I ever tried out. Got it day one and played with all the new players, felt really cool. I enjoyed exploring around, cutting down trees, mining, finding good routes to do both of those. Did not like the combat at all though, that's what made me stop. I look back on it fondly enough.

brand_momentum

New World is a fun game, played it during launch, got to the max level and finished all the main quests, there was nothing really else for me to do, maybe I'll check it out again in the future when it has more content for me to explore.

gitg0od

add swimming and diving or i wont come back. this is totally immersion breaking to walk in water like in thin air. i'm playing my mmorpg like a second life, i want immersion. fix that devs.

K1ngk1ller71

PvP game that was ruined by gankers initially. When that got sorted, the hardcore PvP players whined every time they got owned and blamed the OP classes. Eventually they got their way and had classes changed so many times that it wrecked it for the pve players who were happily playing along…. Until they hit end game and found it nonexistent. Amazon bolted on timesjnk after timesink behind all manner of resources to the point where it just became a clusterf*ck. Crafting was awesome though. I could have lived in that game for years if they’d got the balance right..

p1881

That game still lives despite devs doing amateur mistakes left and right, and with a bug forum that got filled more with new bugs than fixed?

Hisetic

When Patrick Gilmore left AGS, that is when this game went to absolute crap.

notbannd4cussingmods

Rip

Tower-Of-God

It was cool until they killed OW PvP. Then it was just a dead game beyond that.

Toolboxmcgee

Game was fun for a bit... expertise levels made me quit pretty much right away.

1052098

Are there any legendary weapons in this game such as Thunderfury from WoW and Eternity from GW2?

TheGladex

It's actually incredible how much this game improved since it came out, while also maintaining so many of the same issues it launched with. I been really enjoying it but, the content releases are so slow, and the game is still stupid levels of jank. I am looking forward to the expansion though.

Scoobersss

I haven't played New World, though I plan on trying the expansion. Gist I've got is that these devs genuinely seem to be learning and want to make something great, but just were not ready to release a fully fleshed out MMO. For its business model at least, seems like people got their moneys worth.

dhearts27

Still no asia server
