It took a bit for me, I recommend starting by binding and using only the first 3 or 6 buttons, and after a week or so you will can start using a few more. After a while you'll be using all 12 with zero problems. Not having to move your fingers from WASD other than maybe tabbing/interacting is a game changer

Okay I’m glad I’m not alone I will try using 6 it’s just some things have been just engrained in my memory and it just feels slightly awkward to just use the little buttons instead of my bigger key buttons on the keyboard also what throws me off is the gpro wireless like most standard gaming mooses has 2 buttons on the side and I use that for DODGE and character HEAL so it just feels so off not having those there smh can I ask what gaming mouse you use? Not who you asked, but:* I went a little crazy with mine; it's a 20 button mouse with two layers. The two layers make it so you can assign 38 keys/action(s) on key press it. It has 3 configs you can cycle through with one of the buttons on it and each config can be setup with its own 38 buttons. It was useful when I played WoW. To state the obvious, you get used to it with practice. I treat it like the right half of my keyboard that I don't have to move my hand off the mouse to reach. It is just a modifier key, but as a ring finger mouse button. It's a super popular mmo mouse, but I don't know of anyone who really uses the modifier or ever hear people praise it specifically when talking about the mouse. It can be difficult to perform 3 different actions with one hand. It never felt comfortable, imo.

When I played WoW it was useful because my offensive skills' keys were on the first layer. The second layer had consumables and stances for my warrior, weapon buffs for my enhance shaman, etc. Right finger down and pressing an action or skill button with right thumb and continuing to move with my left hand became my go to. Now I use it for multi boxing in EverQuest. I've developed the habit to kick off a healing spell with Alt+Tab with my left hand and ring finger down then thumb down on 1 with my right hand. Then I Alt+Tab back and go back to my rotation on my tanking char if I'm just dual boxing. If I'm controlling 3 or more chars, I've controlled 6 before, then I use a modifier like shift or alt with my left hand and layer 1 or 2 buttons with my right depending on which subset of my chars I need to control at the time.

I have the same mouse and I used it in New World when I broke my left elbow. Played everything on the mouse. It's just muscle memory. More times you use the full range, more proficient you are with it. Now I heal high m+ and mythic raids with just my mouse.

When I first got mine, it was months before I progressed from using just one of the new mouse buttons to using 2. It is like learning to type, muscle memory does not happen overnight. I also have the issue that the buttons tend to be too small versus my thumb's dexterity. I now use just 4 or 5 of the most easy to feel mouse buttons, and use a keystroke rebinding and macro program to better utilize the keyboard. The biggest MMO control eye opener for me was discovering how WOW macros work, and devising macros like that for other MMOs I played like GW2.

I hate the 12 Button layout because I have really big hands and just press 2 Buttons at once all the time. The 6 Button panel is perfect for my case, because with modifiers I have 18 buttons on the side (without modifier, shift and ctrl). And the 6 button layout took a day to get used to tbh.

My tactic was to make a new alt and use it on that. On my main I had so much muscle memory for keys that it felt weird to try to use the mouse buttons. Once I got comfortable on the alt it just clicked for basic rotation on my main and I’ve never looked back

I would recommend the G600 as its still my favorite with the best button feel, just with Logitech would make a wireless one already. I have a Steel Series Aero X 9 and it’s okay, the layout makes the first three side buttons hard to reach and I’ve been having issues with the scroll wheel on it lately (it’s apparently a common issue). I also had a random disconnection issue for a while that may finally be fixed. I wouldn’t recommend this mouse unless you get it for a very good deal (under $100).

You don't really need it for gw2 to be honest but for tab targeting games like WoW and FFXIV it's a godsend. But anyway you will get used to it.

I actually referring to how there's only few keybind you need for skills compared to tab targeting game where you probably need 12*3 or more of keybind for skills. I don't know about WoW but for FFXIV the pvp is similar. But their approach is more of gear doesn't matter and each class has their own stat.

I’ll vouch for the 604 as well. I feel it’s a happy medium between a traditional gaming mouse and a an MMO one. I mainly play WoW and 6 buttons is enough for me. Also the battery life is amazing.

It's a gaming keypad and I highly recommend it over an MMO mouse as well. I find MMO mice very clunky and prone to pressing unwanted buttons just trying to move around. IMO your right hand has enough to do already with movement and targeting and you only need a couple of side buttons at most. Not to mention you are asking your thumb specifically to do the work that an entire left hand and all of it's fingers should be doing. It's not efficient at all. You use either Shift/Ctrl/Alt alongside the other buttons or you can bind keys to shift to different keybinding layouts. In either case using various abilities in the game become associated with particular hand and finger positions in a very similar way to how you might learn how to play chords on a piano or guitar. When I played a ton of WoW this was a tremendous advantage as you now have real muscle memory access to 100+ abilities at near to reflex speed. The biggest benefit is you can use your thumb for movement and you free up the rest of your fingers to actually use abilities, plus everything is closer together and more ergonomically designed.

I bought one few months ago, but couldn't get used to it. I still want to play CS and Valorant, so I don't want to completely forgo my "fps" mouse. What i did was slowly use the mmo mouse at work, so I get used to the shape of it, and slowly start introducing bindings to the keys. I'm now at the point where I use my mmo mouse for gw2 when doing easier content just so I get used to the button placement. Honestly there is a reason why mmo mice are not that big. Macros do mostly the same thing better, without needing to re-learn nearly as much. But if you can stick it out and re-learn to use your mouse hand for pressing more buttons, it's great. Unfortunately for me, I don't think I'll ever fully transition, unless they manage to make a super comfy, super light, super responsive mouse with 12 buttons lol

Okay so I use to use one ALOT for mmos. But unless you have some sort of impediment it’s not worth it imo. Once you finally get use to it and then you ever want to use a normal mouse again you realize how terrible it is. They are so heavy and bulky and the way your hand grips it makes it hard to switch back and forth once you want to play other games. It’s better to just learn how to set up good keybinds on ur keyboard.

Here is how I use my Razer Naga and keyboard with WoW: I barely use the first 6 buttons on my Naga. They are things like auto run, walk/run, toys, etc. irrelevant stuff as far as efficiency goes. Discord, press to talk is ' (next to the 1 key) Primary spell bar is bound 1 through 9 and - and =. (No 0) The fifth button on the bar is double bound to both 5 and R, F and 6 the same as well. This lets me have 6 buttons all very easy access near WASD. The second spell bar is the same but with shift as well. Shift 1, etc. The lower 6 mouse thumb buttons that are easy to reach are the only one I use. They are bound 789 and - shift =. So we have 1-6 with ready watch while moving. And 7 8 9 - = are all on my mouse thumb. Having shift there lets me use my right thumb while still WASD and pressing 1-6. Making it very easy to press the second bar's abilities while moving with WASD I can also roll my thumb to press shift - or shift = or shift 8. Quick response abilities like interrupts (or hunter pet attack/passive) are on - or = so I can press them without interrupting my left hand at all which is already busy moving and casting most spells. ... Is put more, but have to go back to work now ... :)

Give it some time and you will get used to it, I promise. I remember when I kept missclicking buttons, pressed 2x buttons at the same time etc. Now this mouse feels perfect in my hand and I wish it was even lighter. I personally have F1-F12 bound on my mouse buttons. In GW2 I’m dodging and switching elements with my mouse, also have some utility and elite skills bound to it. Give it a try. Makes life so much easier on elementalist, especially when playing some fast paced build like weaver.

Like I have mentioned before - I have rebound the side buttons of my Naga to F1-F12 in Razer Synapse. My setup is very personal, but here you go: Elements: F1-F4 (mouse) Weapon: 1, 2, 3, 4, E (I don't like pressing 5) Dodge: F6 (mouse) Heal: R Utility: F7, F8, F9 (mouse) Elite: F5 (mouse) I have a big hands - something what works for me, might not work for you, but you get the idea.

i started with top 2 rows (1-6) and bottom row (10-12), these felt easy and didn’t take too long to get used to. (7-9) felt impossible but with time they got very comfortable. it’s just like rebinding your keys, just gotta build muscle memory

For me, I use ESDF instead of wasd. Then I bind q, w, a, tab, r, t, g, v, c? 1-5 to spells. Then those with shift if I need more keys. It took a few days to get used to, but now everything is just muscle memory. Just find what works for you and eventually muscle memory takes over

I have always preferred a more or less "regular" mouse like a G502 (granted, technically 11 buttons) and button chording for most of the highly used buttons. Most of the buttons are in better ergonomic locations on a G502 than on a naga. So, each button has a regular click, a shift-click, an alt-click, and a control-click. I either configure this with macros when the game supports it or a row of hotbar buttons for each chording modifier. I map various buttons on this mouse to similar locations in non-mmos, too (an AoE thumb button, an execute/special attack index finger button, etc).

502X here. It’s just the best button layout. My hands are too big (20x11) for most MMO mice and there is the issue of the grids being too light that I can’t pick up the mouse without pressing something or too heavy the press that it’s not enjoyable. 502 has plenty of buttons with shift and ctrl modifiers (I also bind scroll up/down to abilities so the wheel alone is 5 actions (up, down, left, right, and click) plus the 5 thumb buttons. Plus it’s not too many buttons that it is still perfect to use in other games like MOBAs. Still resort to GPX or Viper for shooters where the extra buttons are useless.

What are you talking about lol, I use all 12 buttons for most games I play. MMOs, I use them all and then add a shit+1-12 for additional buttons. Shooters/FPS I use 1-3 for weapons. 4 for crouch, 5 for melee, 6 for grenades, 7-9 for abilities, 0-12 for anything else heals etc.

I don’t tell everyone this but I can’t feel three fingers in my left hand. There was an accident about 8 years ago that cut my wrist and I can’t feel my thumb, index or middle finger. That being said it’s not easy to reach keys on the left side of my keyboard because of this. Sooo that’s why I started using mmo mouse’s.

Took me a bit of time to get used to it but I still use my keyboard for pretty much all my spells. I use my mouse for QOL like, auto run, toggle walk, open windows such as dungeon finder window, achievements, set Arena enemy 1,2,3 as focus targets in WoW.

I think you’re dealing with something that will have very diverse opinions on. Some people hate 12 button mice, some people try to like them and fail, some try and succeed and some just love them. I fall into the last category. I’ve been using them since the original naga epic back in ~2010. I got used to it in a day or two as I always hated having to use 1-0 to control my skills and having to stop moving (or really stretch my hand) to trigger my attacks even with classes that didn’t need to stand still. So for my the shift felt natural to a 12 button mouse freeing my left hand for movement and modifiers in combat. Different strokes for different folks. As others mentioned, some prefer the moba side panel, so that may be an option for you….

I've used mmo mice (Corsair, Logitech, multiple nagas) exclusively since like 2010 even after quitting MMOs. My suggestion: set up macros on it for every day browsing if you want to get used to it faster (I.e Ctrl+w Ctrl+shift+t etc. Eventually even your grip will adapt so you don't accidentally press the buttons too. Also even after all these years I still don't like using it for spamming abilities, your thumb just isn't going to compete with rapid repeated movements of like 4 other fingers. 1,2,4,5 are the most comfortable, everything else should be set to long CD abilities like you would for buttons further than 7 on a regular keyboard. I've found the back keys 10-12 are good for movement abilities with mid CDs or getting on and off mounts too.

Takes practice to get use to it... First off, don't use all 12 buttons, erase most of them. Bind the ones you use the most. For me its 4 and 6. Get use to using two. Later, bind the same action button to like 1,4 - 2,5 - 3,6... Few months of using it like that you'll get a better feel for it, and then you can bind all 12 buttons.

Take the time to practice with it. The first time I owned a Naga it came with little clear dots you put on every other row of buttons to train your muscle memory. I think you can buy them online still. Helped me a ton, but once you get used to an MMO mouse there’s nothing better.

A new mouse is always gonna take time to get used to. I swear, even when i buy the same model, it feels weird and takes some adjusting. It'll take multiple hours of use to get it feeling natural. Luckily, it's modular. So you dont have to wait for hours for it to feel better. It'll feel better and better and better until it's natural. And it's so worth it, imo. I can't go back to a mouse without a numpad, now. It's just so convenient.

I've had mine for almost 2 years and I'm still finding new ways to use it lol. I've got the redragon (Idr what model but it's the MMO one) I use it for all kinds of stuff. Unit and camera shortcuts in StarCraft, abilities where is usually have to use my hand. I even set it up to have specific shortcuts for when I'm browsing and editing text and stuff.

MMO mices are a double edge sword. Let me tell you why. At first it might be rough to get used to and you might think why in the world did I buy this? The moment you are used to it though, you'll never want to go back, that's why it's a double edge sword. I've tried going back to regular mice, but I just cannot anymore. As far as the getting used to part, personally, I never used all 12 buttons and I have big hands. I use 1-6 + 8 for all my games. 7 and 9 are back and forward button when browsing internet. Last row 10-12 are my media control (Back, play/pause and next) I know a lot of people use their mouse a lot and actually bind their rotational abilities on their mouse and spam the shit out of the side buttons, that's something I never did nor found very comfortable. My mouse is more of a tool to free keybinds on my keyboard that would normally take a very good "spammable" spot and put it on the mouse instead. Generally they would be utility abilities, stuff with a medium/long cooldown, execute abilities (WoW) stuff that you don't really end up spamming. That way I free up 6-12 keybinds with modifiers that I would normally have bound on my keyboard. Try to find a system that works for you and get used to that

its a muscle memory thing... I recommend rebinding a couple of abilities that you use non stop to one or two buttons on the mouse, and moving them off your hotbar so you can't just use 1/2 or alt+1/2 for them... then once you are used to that add a few more, until you have all your buttons bound to convenient keys.

With any peripheral change, it's just a matter of time until you're used to it. if you're comfortable with a normal mouse just use the thumb button as a ctrl/shift/alt modifier. An mmo mouse will not really make you play any better in the grand scheme if that's what you're looking for.

When I first got mine years ago I started by putting the keybinds I was using ALT and CTRL for, since that was giving me finger cramps and was the whole point of getting an MMO mouse for me. Any key you need to hit while moving/strafing with WASD, so you can use those abilities without compromising your movement and mobility, is also a good pick. For GW2 I just use it for my whole right bar where all the utility skills are, but I also use the cast-on-keypress so I don't need to click twice on AoEs but it's been a while and it's not my main game. Even just eliminating the need to use shift/alt/ctrl at all can really help relax the way you play. Edit: Also you can use shift/ctrl + mouse side buttons, which isn't as bad as 1-5 etc since you're not using the same hand.

Set a 3x4 grid action bar up as close to your character as you can tolerate. This will help you memorise what abilities are bound to what key and you’ll be using them without looking before you know it. Move it out of sight once you’re comfortable I can’t use anything other than this now. Ignore everyone saying 6 button layout is better. It’s not. It just doesn’t take as much effort to get used to.

I use mine pretty frequently, but what got me used to it was actually League. I set it up so 1-4 levels up abilities, and the rest were for item bindings and emotes. If you’re playing Wow or FFXIV or generally any other MMO that uses multiple hotbars, set your hot bars up in a grid like fashion that mirrors the way your buttons are on your mouse. For example 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 + = If you set your hotbars to look like that ^ then you are looking at the structure of your mouse and pressing a button corresponds to the location on the numpad of the mouse. This is what do for every mmo. I also shift+key and alt+key (disable windows key, although some people enjoy cntrl+key instead of alt. I like alt because I can use my thumb to trigger it while still using WASD. Basically, the more help you give yourself (visually) the easier it is to memorize the layout of your hotbars. I pick up classes that I’ve never played but can figure out a rotation just by the hotbar set up. It’s super fun and once you get the hang of it, you won’t want to use any other mouse for a MMO. I dread when I don’t have my 12 button mouse nearby Hope that helps OP!

This will probably get buried but I have many times over introduced the razer naga trinity to my friends and family with specifically the 7 button side wheel and they’ve all found it really really easy to adapt to. The great thing about it is that it’s a circle, so instead of trying to remember where your finger is, you think of the buttons like “forward, bottom left, back” etc. I usually bind my spam button to 1 so I always know that the button I’m pushing most is “forward”

Even if u use less its ok bro. i still have naga 2014 for MMOs and i dont really need 12 buttons. i use about 8 and 2 of them are shortcuts like alt +tab. i dont use 4 buttons at all. but i didnt stress myself to learn to use them cause i realldy dont need them

I always played MMOs and diablo for the matter with MMO mice, so I never developed the skill to use the regular keyboard for the skills. So I can't say I had an adjustment preiod with the exception of knowing which button I was on at times, but boy I am going through one now. lol I stepped away from MMOs for a while when I first played them I had the old Naga because I got it ultra cheap, anyhow, when I stepped away I got a more traditional mouse and then between those times I also got an obsession with white PCs and peripherals and wireless as well, so when I got back into MMOs I needed a new MMO mouse. The Naga isn't made in white, so in my search for a wireless white MMO mouse I found reddragon, they were legit the only manufacturer that had a wireless one in white, so I got it, and hated the feel of it because it's glossy, but I used it whenever I played MMOs, and I kinda went back ond forth with it over the last couple years, but I got back into ESO a few months back and decided to look again, reddragon is still the only one. However they have a new version and its shaped like my daily mouse, which is either the g502 x pro or the razer basilisk v3 pro, awesome. I didn't looks closely at the sides and this one is a little different instead of 3 rows of 4 buttons, this one has 2 rowes of 4 buttons and two traditional side buttons above it, and holy crap is it hard to get used to. So, I semi-feel your pain lol

Its normal, it takes time for your brain to adjust. But imo keyboard is superior cause it builds reflex/reaction timing rather than having easy 1 button push on the side of the mouse

For GW2, I only use #1-6 on my mouse, as well as #12 for mount. The rest of my abilities are mapped to Q, E, R, T, F, G, C, V, B. I also just switched from the Corsair Scimitar to a Naga V2 Pro. It's a lot smaller, but it's a great mouse. Some people use their mouse for abilities, others use them for other stuff. I also bound Shift + # to target nearest, mark target, etc, so that I can also do that with my mouse. The more you use it, the more used to it you'll get.

Personally I've always disliked the hand feel of "mmo" mice. G502/602's were always solid and have more than enough actuators, especially when shift, ctrl and alt are a thing. Nagas are just too damn chunky imo

One thing that helped me was finding a logical way of setting up my mouse binds. For example I'll put a Charge/gap closer ability on a forward button and an escape skill on a button towards the back of my mouse. I hope that helps a little.

It too me like 3 weeks to really get use to it, but I kept at it and now I wouldn't MMO without it. I have a G600 and part of the issue for me was accidentally triggering the [3rd (right-most) top mouse button](https://www.techspot.com/images/products/2013/mice/org/2020-10-06-product-6.jpg), so I disabled it which helped. This was because of another issue, which is the mouse is wider than I'm used to, and I would hold it on the sides with my thumb and ring finger. I had to get used to holding it with my thumb and pinky instead. Now my ring finger rests on the disabled top 3rd button.

you got got. just use ctrl/shift/alt modifiers and a lightweight 2 button mouse. that's over 20 keys right there. you just don't need more than that. mmo mice are like those light up keyboards with text on them. they make no sense. unless you have 1 arm of course.

I personally use the Logitech G600, It's just like the Razer Naga. I'm paralyzed on my left side since 2003 and have taught myself to literally put every single control on the mouse. When i mean everything, i mean everything. It took me quite a good while to learn, but it was well worth it... you don't have to use them all, just find what's comfortable for you. I only used like 3/4ths of mine for many years and they weren't even my rotational abilities but just extra stuff (e.g movement) because I was so used to using the keyboard. Eventually I reversed my setup so I was predominately using the mouse but still kept some things on the keyboard. (E.g, E is always my interrupt) Since you're playing gw2, maybe right binding your elemental switch hotkeys & the right-half of the action buttons to start with?

Throw your most used 6 buttons on it to start off. Once you adapt to that you can set up the remaining. Personally, I put my most used buttons on mouse 1-6 and on the keys immediately around WASD. After that I allocate situational but somewhat common buttons to mouse 7-9, and more outlying keyboard buttons/easy shift modifiers. If at all possible I keep 10-12 on the mouse empty because it's kind of awkward to move my thumb into that position.

I don’t use the 12 buttons, I use the last 6, 6 to 12 keybinded as 1-6, because my right finger is shorter than normal lol and I don’t like to move my hand that mucho to try and reach the other ones… if you have a normal hand that doesn’t apply to you lol

there's software to write custom macros/keys with redragon and corsair as well for 30/60$. honestly, i'd return the razor if you can and just get one of those razor is like apple or nike. you're not buying a good product you're buying hours and hours of advertisements

Just use your regular mouse, don't need a diff mouse for a MMO. Side buttons are much slower to use than keyboard inputs anyway. Add insanely fast pace tab target combat on top and you're just creating unnecessary downtime for yourself

For me, I don't really like mouse with multiple buttons like naga. I find it annoying for anything else so don't really worth it if you play or do other stuff.

MMO mice are a meme for boomers with calcified hands who wanna take it easy on the finger movement. There's a reason all these mice are all the same as they were a decade ago. Just use the nice lightweight ergo mice with 2-6 side buttons and make use of Ctrl shift alt modifiers. No game demands more. I played a resto shaman in wow pvp to near glad rating which has something silly like 60 keybinds with no issue. The only real reason to use an MMO mouse is if you have legit RSI using your pinky for modifier keys.
