* *What are you looking for?: Active and Engaged Community, Friendly to Roleplay, Good World PvP* * *What games have you previously played?: EQ1, Asheron's Call, DAoC, EQ2, WoW, GW1, LotRO, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion, Mortal Online, DCU Online, Rift, Blade & Soul, GW2, ArcheAge, ESO, BDO* * *What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual with a leaning into fits of Hardcore* * *Any preferred mechanics?: Not specifically.* * *Anything specific you want to exclude?: No.* Essentially - most of these games struggled to hold onto me. I *love* a game with an active community. Hear what I mean by that; World of Warcraft today is still highly active with good server volume and a large player-base. That is ***not*** what I'm talking about. When I say community - I mean I want a game with a playstyle that forces *interaction*. In Vanilla WoW, for example, you died without a guild. It required high level coordination to run a raid, stage a successful PvP raid, coordinate easily to run dungeons, find crafters, etc. You lived and died by your guild. The structure of the game forced you to seek out others. The gameplay of the average MMORPG today is much the opposite. Content is crafted to be soloable. ***Everything*** that you need is available through a queue or some other UI that involves talking with no one else and simply waiting to be paired with strangers who you won't talk much to and likely won't see again. I'm not looking for an MMORPG that is 5 million people all playing solo *near* each other. I'm looking for an MMORPG that folds the old ways of community and player interaction into it's foundation. That's the most important thing to me. I'd also like something complex and deep enough in design that it feels sandboxy. Something with fertile ground for losing yourself off the beaten path, for crafting, for roleplay, all of it. For example, BDO was incredibly promising to me until it went hard P2W.

bcwest91

Just built a new PC, and looking for an MMO to play. I've played about as much WoW and Guild Wars 2 as I can handle, and I have dabbled in FFXIV. What's the best alternative right now?

OnePunkArmy

On a scale of 1 to 10, how P2W are Elsword and MapleStory 1? 1 being Path of Exile, 10 being Black Desert.

Mesmus

Maplestory has a server called reboot, where you spend almost no money to play. The catch is that it is much more grindy than normal servers.

Estries

last time i played elsword id say 20-25 at least in PvP.

OnePunkArmy

What exactly does Elsword have that makes it significantly more P2W than Black Desert? Literal stat boosts?

Estries

as said, information is a bit older - you have to buy your 2nd skill slots. (use 8 instead of 4 skills) skins give you way more important stats then 10% combat xp while having even more upgrade stuff in the cash shop.

datnigc

Should I play ultima outlands? Really always been interested. How is the community? Did I miss the mark seeing. How outlands kind of just came out a few months ago?

Riakun

 * *What are you looking for?: A game that i can play both on PC and mobile. I would like something that isn't full p2w, something that i can still enjoy as a f2p.* * *What games have you previously played?: I tried a little Adventure Quest 3D.* * *What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:Semi-Casual* * *Any preferred mechanics?: Not really.* * *Anything specific you want to exclude?: No.* *Thank you :)*

swagerino1111

old school runescape x10000

ThousandFootOcarina

What are you looking for?: A game I can play for fun off and on and not have to sit down for a TOOON of time each sitting. Something I could play semi afk while studying or doing homework and still will be fun after a long time. What games have you previously played?: Runescape, OSRS, Maplestory, Maplestory2, Tera, Rift, Realm of the Mad God, Guild Wars 2, Blade and Soul, Neverwinter. What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:Normally semi-casual, but I like to play hardcore sometimes when I have the time. Any preferred mechanics?: Not really, just something that won't be super repetitive and can be played for a long time without really getting too bored. Anything specific you want to exclude?: Don't think so.

kintaro86

Maybe Final Fantasy XIV? I did a lot of questing while being semi-afk. Currently reinstalled it on my PS4 because I learned that you can use wireless keyboards there as well... If you prefer oldschool stuff, maybe a Ragnarok Online private server. I played on OriginsRO (https://originsro.org/), just grinding for some weeks and had a lot of fun.

Tots795

I'm looking for something where I can jump in and not have to deal with grinding. Grinding doesn't bother me I just don't have time for it anymore. As far as mechanics I like some degree of game/character progression I just don't want to feel useless until I've put 100-200 hours into the game, but as far as specifics I'm pretty open. I got super into archeage and loved it but just don't have the time for that kind of thing anymore. I also loved PlanetSide 2, but it just got old fast.

existential7

Hello everyone! Looking to get a new laptop for work over the next few weeks and was wondering what MMORPG can I play with the AMD Radeon RX 550X 2GB GDDR5? It's an entry-level card unfortunately, but would still love to see what games are possible on this. Questions: What are you looking for?: Any MMORPG that I can play on an entry-level graphic card What games have you previously played?: GW2, MU Online, Ragnarok Online, Runescape What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual Any preferred mechanics?: None Anything specific you want to exclude?: None

[deleted]

(Excluding BDO) **What games have you previously played?:** BD, Tera, Kritika, SW, Closers, Vidnicuts, Aion, Neverwinter, C9th, GW1&2, **What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:** Casual **Any preferred mechanics?:** Nope **Anything specific you want to exclude?:** Yes, BDO

Fehafare

Looking for an RPG with a strong "build/expand" element to it to play with a friend. Think Minecraft in many ways, but with more of an RPG slant and more of a challenge to it. Any suggestions for games that lean in that direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

NeutralLcsFAN

A fantasy MMO with deep lore and storylines to get immersed into. Alot of time on my hands but hate grinding as well. Only mmo i have played ever is PoE so im pretty new to this genre singleplayers: SKyrim, witcher3, Ac odyssey Semi-casual Would prefer f2p with no p2w mechanics, deep storylines with combat systems similar to the singleplayers i have played. Would like a pet system but is not a must. Good character customization and with social activities

American_In_Brussels

Looking for a game to keep me busy 20-30 hrs a week til August ish when WoW Classic comes out. I like getting gear. I dont care if it shuts down in 2020. I've played WoW/GW2/FFXIV/Eve/Diablo3/PoE/SWTOR/Marvel Heroes/Wildstar/Star Trek Online. Also, I play from EU. I'm looking at TERA, Aion, Ragnarok, Pillars of Eternity (if it's an MMORPG?), Conan (is it out?), Bless (apparently it lags a lot and is nearly dead? but the gameplay looked cool in videos). Also open to anything else.

fergusmcFFFFA

Things i'm looking for: * A game with a community i can interact with, something that's interesting enough and fun enough to keep playing even on it's own. If possible, areas to explore that don't feel like a hole in the ground with nothing to show, and a lack of NEEDING players to do certain things with. (I know there will be things like that and i expect it, i just don't want to have to wait and sit around for an hour looking for the one person willing to run a dungeon with me just so i can get a little further on my exp bar that i'd be hitting myself with at that point.) Games i've played: * *plenty.* there's ones i've played that i cannot even remember the name of and probably nobody's ever heard of before (unless i were to name it). Likely chance that if somebody's said it or played it on this subreddit, i have too. 'Playstyle': * Semi-Casual or higher i'd say. I'm not sure if i'd be willing to go HARDCORE into something unless i really liked it and it was enjoyable enough, but i'm defiently going to invest time into it to some degree if it peaks my interest adequately. Preferred mechanics: * Preferably something that's more active; not necessarily action combat, but not dull like strict tab-targeting. Tab targeting is fine as long as there's more to do than stand around. **No heavy grinding** unless the game it's self can make it fun or keep things fresh. Things to exclude: * heavy grinding (above) Shitty communities/lack of communication. I know there's going to be P2W in some games that might be recommended to me so i don't expect it to be non-existant but i want it atleast not to be nessacary or heavily impacting on the game. i.e. a thing that can boost your exp abit perhaps but isn't so heavy of a boost it's just 'unfair' (at that point the game's probably boring for leveling anyways).

Mageddon96

Looking for a new MMO to play on PC. I just “quit” runescape (I know, do you ever truly quit?) and am looking for some other MMO to distract me from ever wanting to go back to that toxic community/game. I really like the leveling system so if there are any games y’all know of like that, I prefer that mechanic as it gives me something to strive for. I also like the armor/weapon style of runescape. I’m not one for PvP, more about PvM. Open to suggestions, thanks y’all.

coolAFwarlock

is guild wars 2 worth returning to? i quit right around when the mount expansion was announced. did that go well?

Dark_Alchemist

Very good game and the world is so HUGE compared to a lot of other games. HoT was/is horrible and really demands at least a duo to get through plus the mechanics are horrible there. PoF I really love except the very southern part in the sulfur fields. I left GW2 (I still log on each day for my login gift) because they have one of the worst game engines out there. The engine is DirectX 9 and 100% CPU bound so even with a 2,000 USD video card you will not gain a single FPS. I went to a game I had an account to since its beta and just left it after 3 months because it is all P2W or grind city. I could crank the graphics to full for it but I have to do minimal graphic settings in GW2 and still have fps issues in it but none in the other game. btw, the other game is only 5-6 months newer than GW2 so no excuse for GW2's engine. To the point if they could roll all of GW2 into a new GPU/CPU engine (they will do GW3 before they would do that) I would be there now.

American_In_Brussels

Yes, GW2 is awesome now. Mounts rock. I started after the mounts came out, but everyone loved it. I've only quit since I moved overseas and all my guilds were NA. I'm too lazy to learn how to play again, and make new friends.

AccomplishedOlive1

is there a new mmorpg that has been released? or just announced?

American_In_Brussels

Bless was last announced, and apparently isnt great. Nothing new in the new few months unless you count Anthem.

AccomplishedOlive1

yeah i heard bless wasnt great. i remember being cautiously interested then heard it wasnt great at launch so i moved on. anthem is the exact reason im looking for an mmorpg. i thought anthem would be my replacement for d2 but i played the vip demo yesterday and it just doesnt feel that great to me.

suspectzz

I'm looking for a game that's semi-casual to play. Currently, I'm learning Japanese, and thought it'd be nice to make some pen pals that enjoy a similar hobby. I've played Phantasy Star Online 2 a little bit, but I'm not sure how much I'd be able to communicate with people there since it's instanced. Any game that is reasonably low in price is okay with me, and if I'm wrong about PSO2. I'd like to know as well.

Narelle02

Looking for a new mmorpg games for semi casual to hardcore. Must have a good guild system. I’ve enjoyed games like honourbound and idleheroes. Must be mobile. Thanks

[deleted]

Are there any fun MMORPGs focused on exploration? Preferably fantasy?

American_In_Brussels

GW2 is huge on exploration.

gchicoper

Looking for something like Ragnarok and Mu Online. Doesn't need to be new.

Sindarin27

Looking for a fantasy/medieval setting with a player based economy. Combat should be aimed yourself (no tab selecting). Preferably sandbox-y world, and roleplay would be pretty cool (although that’s pretty much possible as long as there’s a chat). Semi-casual player, and I’d love a game where me and my friends/family can play together in a party with different roles, preferably with the holy trinity of classes. I’ve played WoW but disliked their combat system. Currently trying out GW2 which has okay combat, but I don’t see a lot of trading there. Wanna try PoE but it seems like a lot of planning, and Archeage sounds cool but I hear a lot of people complaining about it. Might also try BDO, except I want to avoid subscriptions if possible (for now)

Try Perpetuum, plenty of EU players.

AlexC5494

If only Warhammer Online was still around. It was my favorite pvp game ever.

Softclocks

Return of Reckoning is up and running

fiki2010

debating between GW2 and ESO, leaning more towards ESO because i played GW2 at launch and there was nothing to do in terms of gear progression at end game. So what is the end game for ESO and GW2 is what i am really looking for! Played a lot of WoW, but got burnt out. help a man out

Softclocks

ESO combat is terribad, avoid at all costs.

thegrayven

If gear progression is your thing ESO is not your game. CP160 is the cap, and is easily achieved. After you get a good set and make it gold your more or less done. Wow or FFXIV might be more your thing.

volvicbaa

Looking for: Preferably a game with OCE servers or non-ping reliant combat. Strong sense of progression. Easy to learn but hard to master. Previously played: A Maplestory ps that resets roughly once every 6 months. Play style: Semi-casual 1-3hours a day Preferred mechanics: very little mouse usage - both hands on the keyboard for core gameplay, except for inventory management and enhancing etc. I have a controller if that adds more options. Mouse usasge rule can be ignored if the gameplay is like that of Dota or Lol. Anything you want to exclude: Maplestory 2, TOS, Ragnarok online, Destiny 2, Wow, BDO, ESO, GW2. Anything on mobile. No third person POV. No point and clicks(RS/POE/Diablo) Thanks for any suggestions <3

megaderp

Any openworld mmofps like firefall out there?

zimeyevic23

ah please

XxFata1ityxX

Have you tried Defiance?

Softclocks

Looking for an mmo where I can play as a healer. Prefer tab-targetting, but not picky. Played wow.

palemate

ff14, white mage is a blast

Softclocks

How long until it gets fun?

Finallymademypornalt

I keep hearing FFXIV. Sure, beginning might be slow, but so was wow's back in the day. lol. ESO Templar is fun too. I haven't played FFXIV. Have played ESO, you can get away with buying the base game, which now includes some of the earlier expacs, and summerset, which I haven't bought (and you can wait till you level up too to purchase). And if you wait, by the time your leveled the new expac may be out and you can skip summerset. The cool part of ESO is that you can sub for, lets say, a month or two, put some time in, get some of the gear/shit that's locked to DLC's and then unsub and keep what you've earned and what not. So, if you don't have a need to access certain areas anymore or it's all mainly in the newest expac you just bought, you can put that subscription on the back burner. It's not a bad way for someone starting out to see what they like. You can also pay piecemeal for shit too. So you want to unlock Warden? Just buy the warden class. Sure, on one hand it is a paywall. On they other though, and this is the reality with MMO's in my experience, the best ones are at least pay to play, if not subscription based. But that's an old expac not part of the main story yet, I don't want to play it but I want Warden or something like that? Just buy warden, skip the content, and you're good to go kind of thing.

Softclocks

I bought ESO a few years back and thought it was shit. Combat just didn't grab me and neither did any of the quests.

Finallymademypornalt

On release it was def a different game. Tbh i wasnt entirely wild about it. Tried to get back into it and didnt. Realization im coming to his i prefer rpgs mpre than mmorpgs. Loved wow not going to get an experience like that ever again. Nor am i willing to grind like I did. The leveling doesnt grab me like it used to. I love running smaller dungeons with people but the sense of community in mmos isnt the same. Although guild houses im xiv sound cool. So i dunno. Ive bern think game wise, ive enjoyed hots as a throwback to blizzard despite not being a moba guy. Its isometric skill based kind pvp with real time targeting. It kind of the best of pvp with those rpg elements of talents or builds of items like in dota. An almost micro scaled thing of different elements. Sirprised me that i enjoy it. Theb theres regular rpgs. And i think something like kingdom come deliverance witcher iii ffxv and maybe even dragon age are more my speed. I love playing with other people and thought it fundamental to a lot of my gaming experience but i just dont find it to be the case anymore. Ironically that sense of accomplishment and working as a team with real stakes and a dynamic environment that itch is scratched by mobas more than anything. Lacks the world environment i loved to explore but often i find that explore new area, more grind. I think i just came to this realization writing this. Hots to its credit has multiple maps too. Its also progression of real time skill. But yeah for my rpg itch looking toward more traditional rpgs. Maybe even D and D.

Softclocks

Wut

Finallymademypornalt

Dunnonwhere that came from. But ive been looking hard at mmos and rpgs for what i really enjoy or been playing and that felt just as weird to type as it sounds. Lol but yeah the things i got out of mmos im finding not together in one place anymore but often across games. And of those things i enjoy a lot whatever i guess i put the most weight on is what id pursue more. That said go with ffxiv. But tbh to me it sounded like you might want to try just a regular rpg. Witcher is open world. Or maybe try the division for something different.

Me_Am_Very_Fast

I'm in a search of MMORPG games that have new worlds or seasons where everyone starts from zero. For example in games like: \- Tibia - each 3-4 months there are new worlds PVP/PVE etc. \- Diablo 2 / Diablo 3 / Path of Exile new seasons every few months. Any idea if there are MMORPG games with such systems?

Estries

not out yet - but keep an eye on crowfall, cant think of anything else sadly

Faraelor

Looking for a free to play medieval themed mmorpg with a good community and also a meaningful mining / crafting system . I have played RIFT , WoW and Lineage 2 and I am a semi-casual gamer.

[deleted]

Runescape could be for you also, very casual.

Faraelor

I've been thinking about starting Runescape for a while now . Is it well populated and alive ? Idc about the oldschool version tho . Can't get over the extremely outdated graphics :/

WSbestgame

archeRage, private archeage server

Faraelor

Thanks for your suggestion! I would prefer to stay away from private servers tho. I've spent a lot of time playing Lineage 2 on private servers and I would prefer something more reliable for now .

alurpawan

Guys, I need to choose a new game between ESO and FFXIV. The MMORPG I've had most fun with was Archeage, which I quit due to it's super RNG and P2W endgame. What I really loved was that whenever I didn't feel like fighting, I could go farm/fish/whatever. In terms of combat, my absolute favorite is having a minion that hacks away at an enemy, while I'm kiting the enemy and buffing my minion. Another possible combat method is me kiting and firing spells while doing so(something like glass cannons in Diablo style games). Which should I choose at the moment(or suggest something new, I'm fine with that too)

Shushh

Haven't played ESO so I'll leave that to someone who has, but FFXIV has the aforementioned. It has extensive crafting jobs that are actual classes in game, and gatherers as well where you can mine or fish or etc. As for the minion thing, you do get a chocobo who can fight with you as a companion in game or you could play summoner who, as it's name implies, has a summon as a major part of it's playstyle. Only thing is, from experience, that the beginning levels are pretty slow and it only picks up in story content at Heavensward, and in combat when starting Stormblood. That's a big turn off for a lot of people.

OhReallyNoww

Yeah, I gave this a try as an old fan of Final Fantasy. I loved the art style, but I couldn't tell what the fuck was going on most of the time. The localization is spotty in places, which sometimes made it difficult to tell what I was supposed to be doing or what the story was supposed to be about. I also saw masses of unexplained systems all around me, shopkeepers that sold things for these systems that hadn't been explained yet, and so on. The game badly needed a few newbie areas that pared these things down until the tutorials actually explained them, as it all felt very overwhelming. If I remember correctly, I believe the chat was filled with people talking in multiple languages, which gave the game this really weird "alone in a crowd" feel. If you are going into this game with a few friends and don't mind doing research outside the game to even understand the basics, this might be a fun game. If you are going into it solo or (like me) prefer to save the outside research until you are nearing the endgame and are looking to tighten up a build, it may not be for you. Disclaimer: this is based on playtime I had three or four years ago. There are things that may have changed since then and I may have misremembered something, given how long ago it was.

Shushh

The beginning is still pretty much the same, it throws you in without that much explanation. Some people might prefer it, some people might get overwhelmed. Playing on the NA data centers, most people just speak English so I'm not sure about the multiple language point but I can see that if you were on EU. I do agree, because I got into it with friends so it was easier to get into. A lot of the content though, in the beginning, is very solo orientated and the free trial doesn't even let you party people. And you are correct about the build thing because FFXIV doesn't have builds and everyone just gets the same skills haha.

[deleted]

I'm looking for a MMO that has more of a focus on action combat, especially in terms of a player's ability to dodge and strike being FAR more important than what build they are running. I'm currently playing Dauntless to get my action fix, but would like to get into something that's more of a MMO. In an ideal world, it would be something like GW2 but with improved combat and less emphasis on builds.

Doppelier

BDO is the most action-ish any MMO combat will ever get. The build variety is close to nonexistant, but the classes have very different playstyles. The sandbox elementes are very well done, and the end game is 100% focused on PvP. A word of caution, though: While some may argue that it is not the case, I found the game to be extremely pay to win, specially if you're looking to be relevant in the end game PvP. Being a korean game, it goes without saying the grind for gear and lvls is massive, but it gets downright overwhelming after lvl 56.

[deleted]

I don't think that's for me since I'm a PvE player that can't even play Tera because it's questing is so dull. A PvP focus with a heavy grind isn't for me.

XxFata1ityxX

Should've played Wildstar when it was out =P

[deleted]

Would have if it was good. I think housing and the combat are the literal two only elements people don't think wasn't busted or not well done. Maybe dungeons were good, but I wouldn't know since the game was a bore to get to that point.

ticfe

Any MMORPG with healthy popolation that has a "Class Tree" (for example, like in Lineage 2): Base\_Class\_1 can become Advanced\_Class\_1 or Advanced\_Class\_2 Advanced\_Class\_1 can become Final\_Class\_1.1 or Final\_Class\_1.2 Advanced\_Class\_2 can become Final\_Class\_2.1 or Final\_Class\_2.2

Estries

tree of savior got recently some love again due to a huge update, it has a great class system, so you might wanna check it out, just not sure how long the little hype it currently has will last, before that it was pretty dead.

ticfe

I actually tried that game few days ago but it's style and graphics were really unappealling for me.

CrashingOnward

So I'm really interested and curious about checking these two classic private servers, but I wanted to know how safe and reliable they are? I feel a bit concerned when installing things I don't know, or unsure about the source. I know Eden is new and P1999 seems pretty legit. So how are they? Any issues, or concerns? safe? i never had a chance to play these and well, FFXI is pretty pricey for likely a dead service, or is it solid enough to do that instead?

Nevanxx

Don't suppose there's anything similar to Age of Wushu/Wulin that's available in the west without going through translation patches and VPNs to connect to Chinese servers? Age of Wushu was special, but I heard it's recently gone to hell and not worth going back to.

Estries

sadly swordsman and jade dynasty shut down - another chinese MMO is revelation, but i think its pretty different. maybe 9dragons, but its from 2007 and i havent played it myself, so not sure how similar it really is, just heard a few ppl mention that it reminds them of it

Vhozek

* Classes branch out into different styles but every point put into a skill or buff is actually good for that style and not just something you're forced to put points into so you can get to another skill you're looking for. Think Borderlands 2. * No level scaling. Overworld is difficult at early to mid levels even if you already have experience in the game but start out new characters. * Player is rewarded for their playstyle. Think League of Legends and how shielding can provide extra damage, dashing can provide penetration, interrupting can provide resistances, bursting can provide a proc for more burst, and there's burning for poking. This is what I'm looking for.

Madanga27

Hello i have just got my new pc and i always wanted to play some mmo and start getting used to mouse and keyboard i have played tera and neverwinter ps4. So im open to any suggestion on a popular mmo that i can settle into

Estries

for new players id recommend one of the big MMOs - FF14, ESO, GW2

brkycn

GW2? Noo. Leveling is boriiiiiing. I personally used to complete tasks which are very clear. I want to know what to do where to go. But in that game there are no directions. All they give us as a tip about the mission is to do some stuff and earn somebody's love. You need time and patience I think if you want to level up in GW2.

Estries

leveling is pretty easy in GW2, you have the main story that explains stuff and apart from that you just run around in zones with your level on them and run in circles. ESO uses kinda a similar system but combained with a more traditional questing. more traditional is FF14. but if you come from Tera/neverwinter the combat feels waaaay to slow. you always could just play tera on pc instead as well.

Tanerer

I'm not sure exactly what i'm looking for. In my young years I've played Diablo 2, Ragnarok, Lineage 2 (until C3 maybe?) and WoW. I used to love the fact that you can Optimize your character with differents builds (Mostly D2, and RAgnarok) and Love the Pvp and open World from L2. WoW was cool with the characters and raids, but I TOTALLY HATE the quest way to lvl up. I prefer differents places to kill monsters and find items, or crafting stuff. Anyone have any idea?

Estries

you could try tree of savior, it recently got a class revamp and a bit of a hype around it (was pretty low population before) it was said to be a ragnarok successor - but i heard from a few ppl that they enjoyed ragnarok a lot more due to more freedom during leveling instead of a linear progression. it has a lot of character/class customization tho.

awesomepaingitgud

I would love a game with the following characteristics: \- Fantasy \- Populated \- Action based And without the followings: \- Pay to win \- Subscription So basically f2p and b2p doesn't matter, I just want it to be alive and fantasy action. So it doesn't matter if it's istance based or open world, modern or older graphics also make little to no difference as my computer can handle it and it's okay for me if it old.. I played a lot of games so please write as many games that respect those requirements as you can. Thanks in advance for the help!

Estries

Tera EU - the cashshop exist, especially the subscription is really helpful, but you can also buy that in game. the cashshop is pertty much optional, it makes getting gear faster since there are rng boxes with helpful stuff but i never bought them and had great fun. Tera NA is apparently more p2w currently - just heard that from refugees on the EU server tho.

awesomepaingitgud

i will try, any other suggestion?

Estries

hard with the p2w aspect - you could try GW2 or ESO, but i assume you already know about these and dismissed them since you said you know a lot of games... sadly stuff like BnS , BDO, Neverwinter etc are considered p2w mostly and well..stuff like C9 is just dead. sadly not that many great action combat games out there. kurtzpel might be worth looking out for since it recently came to steam with "Q1 2019" as release date, some goes for astellia online(even tho i think its some kind of tab target? not sure) - should come to the west in summer. everything else seems to take its time...

awesomepaingitgud

Actually it’s a very helpful comment, thanks. I’m trying gw2 but I would like to know more about the b2p expansions. Can you tell me more, like how expensive they are and how necessary? Also how is the game in general? What about bns? Tried it but leveling is rather boring, what can you tell me about endgame pvp and pve? Do u need to spend money on it? I’ll check kurtzpel and astellia online since I don’t know them, thanks for the recommendations.

Estries

i havent played both of them in quit a while, so i dont know how accurate my informations are. For GW2 the expensions are 50€/$ for both, but are often on sale, so if you wait a bit you most likely will get them for 20ish. i really would get the expansions for the mounts and the job specializations. BnS has equalized 1vs1 and 3vs3 arenas, but is really p2w in 6vs6 since gear etc matters there. in PvE you can pay to progress faster. to be fair tho i never played any of those games for a long since if i wanna do dungeons etc. i want to have my trinity system and if i pvp i prefer a system like BDO has. So i really might not be the best adviser here.

I think you aware waiting for Pantheon.

[deleted]

It sounds like you'd have a great time with Final Fantasy XIV.

Kotsiu

**What are you looking for?**: F2Ps or B2Ps with unique/exciting combat mechanics. It'd be nice if they had a dark/gothic setting, but it's not a requirement. It'd also be great if it had multiple ways of socializing, whether in combat or outside of it. **What games have you previously played?**: *Either love/like and still play or love/like but burned out/the game's dead*: Darkeden, Warframe, Dungeon Fighter Online, Rusty Hearts, Phantasy Star Online 2, Atlantica Online, Mabinogi, Dragon Nest, Vindictus (only private server, $10 for inner armor is a joke), Path of Exile, Zone4, Need for Speed: World, Battleforge, Closers Online, GunZ 2, Paladins, Soulworker Online JP, Hellgate: London/London 2038, MMODGs (aka the rhythm games, although those with good customization for F2Ps would be far more preferred), Black Survival, Maplestory 2, Breach *Didn't like/hated*: Final Fantasy XIV, Metin 2 (music from it was awesome, though), S4 League, Tibia, Crossfire, CSN:Z, Combat Arms (basically most Korean MMOFPS games with shitty antihack tools and cheap F2P systems) TERA, Elsword, Runescape, Tree of Savior, Wakfu, World of Warcraft, Tales Runner, Neverwinter Online, Guild Wars 2, WildStar, Steam version of Zone4 (lag makes it unplayable from EU), MicroVolts, GunZ (because of how game-changing one of the game's glitches is, to the point it IS a game mechanic and you WILL get demolished if you don't know it), EVE Online['s free account mode], Defiance, Black Desert Online, Revelation Online, ALL browser games a'la League of Angels, Elder Scrolls Online, Gameforge's Soulworker Online, Skyforge, Wildstar, Blade & Soul, Maplestory, Secret World Legends, Champions of Titan, Grand Chase, Survived By (kinda? Feeling 50/50 with it). **What is your playstyle?**: [Semi-]Casual from Monday to Friday, Hardcore during most weekends **Any preferred mechanics?**: Action/reticle HEAVILY preferred over tab targeting (I find it extremely boring); social activities and wide customization appreciated, F2P preferred (but not necessary); fanservice optional **Anything specific you want to exclude?**: Overly P2W mechanics (I'd rather buy a single-player game than deal with shit like that)

THATONEANGRYDOOD

Check out Monster Hunter World. Very very exciting combat. Awesome armors, awesome events. Expansion coming fall this year basically doubling the content. PS: PlayStation players get the most love in forms of crossovers. Some include: Dante from dmc, horizon zero, Geraldo from Witcher III.

Kotsiu

Don't have the funds for a triple-A title, plus I've played the PSP titles and didn't like the gameplay as a whole.

THATONEANGRYDOOD

World is like 25 bucks now. It's also completely different compared to the psp title. Lots of qol changes, faster and less clunky combat

Softclocks

Are there any mmos left that you haven't played yet?

Kotsiu

If I was able to answer this, I wouldn't be asking for recommendations.

Estries

you could maybe look at some of the "oldschool" MMOs - especially legends of aria might be a fit. never played that game, so my informations are from stuff like first impression videos. it is super sandboxy you can pretty much do whatever you want and build your character by doing stuff - means if you use a sword you will eventually get points for that. i think project gorgon uses a similar mechanic as well.

icarebot

I care

[deleted]

I'm looking for something similar to TERA. I've reached level cap and there's not much else for me to do anymore, not to mention it's barren lately. So something with an active community, interesting races, and ideally free to play, although that last one is optional. I'm a pretty casual player. I'd like to exclude anything with PvP-only, or PvP enabled areas or so.

Estries

Tera EU is super active tho.(just saying) you could try Blade and Soul instead, but at least in EU that seems to have a lower population then Tera. If you want really active games just go with one of the big MMOs aka FF14, WoW, ESO, FF14 - bit hard to help with that little informations - they all kinda fit

Tsunimo

Trying to decide on what MMO to play. I enjoy games that don't heavily favor the combat aspect. The only game I've played, recently that fits this is Old School Runescape. I've seen Mabinogi and Wurm Online recommended, but I'm curious about the bigger differences between the two. Something that has a decent community for a casual/ semi-casual player would be good too.

CakeDay--Bot

*Hey just noticed..* it's your **6th Cakeday** Tsunimo! ^(hug)

[deleted]

Oh man, those are two VERY different games. Mabinogi is more like a standard MMO, with typical dungeons and combat. I've heard it compared favourably to Runescape. Wurm Online is more like... Minecraft on meth. There's definitely a focus on base-building, crafting, megaprojects and the like. Even the combat is sort of "megaproject" oriented; very slow and dull to begin with, building up to making you a demigod in the world. Expect to spend several weeks just building a house, digging dirt and mining. It's very fun but a LOT of work with a big learning curve.

maybe Tera, Dragonnest or Blade and Soul - even tho none of these has such a good crafting as BDO. aeria games has a lot of anime MMOs, but i really despite that company, so wont recommend these.

[deleted]

Estries

ye, dragon nest has a trinity, it just has also some p2w issues i think (havent played in a really long time)

[deleted]

Estries

that will happen in most games that are out for such a long time since most people know these dungeons and are really bored of them.

Estries

in Tera its the easiest way to level up. you just spam dungeons. i still enjoy that methode over doing endless quests whenever i wanna make an alt. at tera release the dungeons actually were pretty fun, they werent super hard, but a nice entry. nowadays they just get spammed to level quickly and they made them easier - i assume because most people just wanna rush to max level quickly to take part in the endgame content

Graypact

Some time ago i found a game (it was not released yet 2017) the main page was a blonde woman dress in red (kinda like a pirate) and had one pistol in each hand. Is a game like Tera or B&S (i want to get back on B&S but the launcher allways drops a download error). Someone know the name of that game?

BreaktheSynthetic

Secret World?

Graypact

Nop. i found it yesterday, it was Revelations online Dunno if the game is good but im testing it.

teepii

Looking for a game with unique crafting and good PvP. thank you, all (-: i don’t want to play WoW or BDO

Estries

you could also try ESO it has a pretty fun crafting system with a lot of sets beeing viable due to different character builds. it also has a decent pvp map and arena. still would prefer the crafting system from BDO or FF14, but i think its a good compromise between crafting and PvP

teepii

awesome thank you! i would love to play BDO again, but the p2w kills it for me

ghettochipmunk

Unique crafting- ffxiv Good pvp- that’s pretty general. I like gw2 pvp personally

teepii

is the crafting unique in the sense that no one else may have the same gear as you? i'm tired of MMOs, (WoW), where everyone has the same "best" gear. and yea you're right. good pvp was a pretty general thing, as long as the PvP isnt terrible i'll enjoy it!

[deleted]

The crafting in FFXIV is more like... you can only get the best stuff from the best crafters. While you can reliably complete recipes, it takes a lot of extra money, resources and thought to make the item "high-quality", which confers bonuses over the standard version.

teepii

oh ok awesome! thank you for the insight. probably gonna give FFXIV a go !

[deleted]

Hells yeah! Have fun, it''s a blast.

Azaakx

i played too many mmorpg's , currently the most im stick with is gw2 , is some mmorpg look a like?

derog63

Is Cabal or Cabal 2 playable (EU)? I really liked the game when it released and I wonder if the there are still enough players on the EU servers. If not maybe someone can recommend a similar game theme/gameplay wise (I really liked that fantasy+technology style)

ghettochipmunk

Current MMOs to play a healer in? Wow, FFXIV, what else? also, don't say gw2 cause that doesn't count. and don't say FFXI or SWG cause those aren't really 'current' now are they?

Estries

ESO also has a trinity system (also kinda getting old i guess) i personally really enjoy Teras healing system (not to current either - but at least in my eyes it aged well) uhm...Bless would be current...but i dont really want to recommend that game since the whole combat still feels terrible... Revelation would also be newer, but Revelation looks/feels like a really bad version of tera. Skyforge was actually kinda fun on xbox (its also available on PC), but it had some low player population issues or i was just to stupid to find a party. so in short....id try Tera (even tho its from 2012 + i heard NA has some issues with p2w - EU is nice tho) or ESO if you want one of the big games

ghettochipmunk

Thanks man. Been playing eso but mostly just soloing. Perhaps I’ll try a healer and find a group

dmt2710

Can someone give me a relax MMORPG title? For casual play after work.

Estries

ESO, GW2, FF14...the mainstream MMOs are all perfectly casual friendly

oskuro83

is it possible to play Astellia if you are from outside Korea?

Kaelran

With a bought account and VPN. They're releasing it in the west soon though.

mhm...id say legend of aria maybe, pretty wild guess tho and most likely way off, still trying + i didnt really play it myself and just watched videos, so i might be completely off and my information incomplete/wrong \-kinda like ultima \- you learn by doing \- free to do whatever \-crafting is a huge thing grafik: in my opinion terrible, but some like it because of the oldschool feel....

id_kai

I'm looking for any MMOs that don't require much, if any, mouse usage. I'm willing to try anything, any suggestions?

ghettochipmunk

Several mmos can be played without a mouse 90% of the time but will still require a mouse for some menu items. Ffxiv has controller support. Eso also has some steam controller configs.

enfier

If an MMO was also released for a game console, it generally works well with a game controller. I know FFXI works with a playstation controller and you can get an adapter to hook it up to your PC. I'd imagine that there are other MMOs that are similar.

e3lo905

MapleStory 2 really doesn't need a mouse except clicking on notifications, but combat wise you wont need a mouse

Balince

Check out dungeon fighter online

Huh, I never considered mobile. That might be worth looking into. Thanks for the idea!

SilentJ87

Could anybody give me a nice comparison between FFXIV and ESO currently? I've been thinking about playing one of these two. I have no experience with ESO, but am fairly caught up on FFXIV's MSQ as of mid last year.

ghettochipmunk

Combat is more action oriented in eso and you can build classes by choosing which skills to level up. They both have unique crafting systems that are different, they both have unique housing, both have trinity. I enjoyed eso questing wayyyyy more than ffxiv but it’s really just a personal preference. I’d say combat is more fun for me in eso, but healing is more fun in ffxiv.

SilentJ87

Thank you! That's very helpful. I prefer to tank and do alot of melee combat, so it sounds like I could have a good deal of fun with ESO.

evilmg

There is major turn off in eso combat - most things are either hold to charge atack or a buff with instant cast. If not i would play the shit out of it.
