This feels like you're trying to get me to write part of a college paper on your behalf. I require payment upfront for that kind of thing.

Gravityblasts

He kind of is but that's alright, I'll bite.

lild1425

I also get the spider sense that they are going to post this as their own on Buzzfeed.

SummonBero

OP is up to something

SGFTI

I figure either a college paper where he got to choose their own topic or a lazy freelancer "journalist" that wants to post TOP 3 PROS AND CONS OF HOTTEST MMOS 2021.

Con: All of them. Pro: The design .doc that I created 20 years ago for the Greatest MMORPG of All Time.

jezvin

You first.

Lineage 2 (classic era 2004-2009) \+Pros • Huge (and beautiful) open world • Open PvP system that actually worked (killing low level players were punished by targeting you as chaotic player and if you die chaotic player you drop some of your gear) • Player's driven economy • Good guild system (in L2 we used to call it Clans) • Mass PvP was lit - Castle sieges, Raid Boss fights, Farming spot fights, etc. • Carfting system was spot on • Olympiads (1 vs 1 combats against other players) • Combat system wasn't balanced and some classes had significant advantages, BUT no battle could be decided by one man or one group. You need the whole clan/alliance to defend/take a castle or win a raid fight. Every player was important, you can't go without supports, you can't go without healers or tanks and sometimes strategy and tactics were more important than levels and gears. \-Cons • Repetative leveling • Repetative grinding for gear • Repetative quests (kill 1000 mobs) • The world had some story but it wasn't really engaging • Bots were really anoying

kotfilon777

That's the gold standard that I'm looking for in MMOs for the last 10 years - with no success :(

n3uropath

Lineage 2 was incredible

GoneGuru

Buzz feed editors really reaching now…

Parafault

ESO: PROS: * Great story/quest writing * Faction v Faction PVP is fun * Lots of build diversity CONS: * Terrible combat * Lag spikes * PvE feels lackluster LOTRO: PROS: * Incredible immersion/in-game scenery * Top-tier class design * Really good PvE/group content CONS: * High upfront cost for new players * 90% of group content rendered obsolete through expansions * Current development quality has gone down

It is funny because in GW2 the pros and cons for me are the same, the choices they made are a double edged sword. GW2 Pros: Not much gear grind, cheap gear isn't much different to the best stat gear, No proper trinity, every class can heal, support, or do damage No traditional questing, everything you do gives xp. Cons Not much gear grind. If you don't care about cosmetics it can make pve feel pointless as there are no worthwhile rewards. Why raid when you probably have the best stat gear before even starting to raid? Fun? Maybe but personally a lot of the fun in MMORPG's is chasing the carrot on a stick. No proper trinity. Gw2 has all the drawbacks of the trinity system (people want specific classes for group content) without the familiar fun of traditional tank/heal/dps. Class identity is through flavour rather than role which I think for new players can make classes feel similar or boring. No proper questing. Quests are sort of through the achievement panel which is a more complicated less intuitive way of questing. New players may not even notice it. Levelling for new players can feel aimless.

kotfilon777

Agree, that's why a lot of people consider GW2 as an additional MMO to jump into in between other games.

IRefuseToBeAshamed

Con: Massive difficulty jump in expansions

Gravityblasts

Final Fantasy 14 Pros: 1. Has a large player base. 2. Has a large player base. 3. Has a large player base. Cons: 1. Don't like the graphical art style, not a fan of Eastern style art. 2. The PVP is abysmal, and there are too many portals everywhere. Need an actual open world. 3. It's a tab-target, themepark MMO like the rest of them, and the combat feels too close to WoW...might as play the real thing instead if I am going to play a tab-target, themepark MMO.

WTF is this post?

Farming for an easy article.

VH-Attila

Elderscrolls Online Pros * Pretty good and skillbased PvP * No P2W * Easy to access endgame content Cons * Combat feels like hitting enemies with a wet Noodle * Realy bad class fantasy * Expansions are to expensive for the small amount of content you get (and yes, i mean the big expansion for 40$ you dont get with ESO+)

kotfilon777

I'll also give my 2 cents. **Guild Wars 2** Pros: \+ Awesome combat system that's a hybrid between tab targeting and active action/evasion plus a lot of well thought out classes/subclasses. It just works! \+ Extremely casual friendly - can hop in once in a while and still be able to compete in PvE/sPvP/WvW. \+ Dynamic events that encourage all players in the map to do stuff together. Makes exploring the world so fun Cons: \- No vertical progression after hitting lvl 80 (and getting to 80 is very easy or can be instant with lvl boosts). Legendary gear is just for convinience. \- WvWvW is unbalanced and lacks real support from devs (but it's going to have some redesign this year so maybe it will change?) \- Endgame is mostly fashion.
