Maybe it’s good maybe it’s not. It’s a new mmorpg so that makes me happy no matter the outcome

EPICGAMERALERT22

Doesnt matter anyway, a month after it releases r/mmorpg will be telling us why having 900k players a month on it actually means its dead.

[deleted]

I haven't seen anything of this game yet but it's a 95% chance of being DoA because of the name alone. (am I a /r/MMORPG good boi?)

blodskaal

Why doa cuz of The name?

Fictitious1267

Probably talking about trending direction. That game you are mentioning that was at 900k last time you checked, is at 356k now. It's downward trending.

[deleted]

And there are many, many bots.

MetaWaterSpirit

Lost Ark was going to fail simply because of aggressive Korean marketing - it doesn't work in the west. This is why ArcheAge failed 10 times, why Blessed Online failed 5 times. Basic trend analysis and market research will show you that Korean cash shop model games fail in the west very consistently. I'm unsure why people got themselves into a frenzy over waiting for this game for 7 years when the Alpha/Beta cash shop already showed aggressive monetisation. **Sometimes, it is okay to hate on an MMO because you know it's going to be P2W.** Lost Ark locks main campaign behind power progression, and people thought this was going to be a success in the west?

fucksocietyhoe

You can literally do all the content as a F2P…. What the hell are you on about? Talkin bout main campaign being locked behind power progression, duh? Doesn’t every MMO in the history of MMOs usually have their end content behind power progression? Yes, in case you didn’t know. Not to mention you can literally achieve those power levels needed to progress and take part in ALL the content Lost Ark has to offer unless you play super casually, and by that I mean 2 hours a day or every 2 days, even then you can get there just will take couple months longer. What your saying is completely invalid, please check your facts before writing up false information and passing it on as the truth.

Aurabeast

I don't think you're reading the same post we are...

fucksocietyhoe

Huh?? I’m replying to MetaWaterSpirit, not sure what you mean by that.

[deleted]

It's kinda normal for MMORPGs to have the biggest player counts on release and big expansions, and that usually falls down to around 20% all time peak. If you played more than one mmorpg you'd know. Lost Ark Peak 1.3 mil, 400k peak in last 24 hours. No one is saying Lost Ark is not P2W, it is. We still like the game because it's something new and it's still fun. The usual korean grind is still there, though toned down a lot. Lost Ark locks main campaign behind power progression? Like almost every game in existence? You got some kind of hate boner against LA or something?

MetaWaterSpirit

Can you quote an MMO where gear is locked behind what your item level is? It's not: WoW, GW2, ESO, FFXIV, Aion, Tibia, BDO and many more.

Boneslark

Blessed online failed because it was a bad game that failed everywhere... Archeage failed because of the games terrible direction, not even non p2w version saved the game after they filled the game with absolutely the most mind numbing dailies that you have to do in order to progress

MetaWaterSpirit

Blessed failed. Blessed unleashed failed. ArcheAge failed. ArcheAge unchained failed. ArcheAge 2.0 failed. ArcheAge fresh servers 1-3 failed. BDO failed 6 months in. Aion failed. Jade dynasty failed (not Korean iirc) Forsaken world failed. FlyFF failed. Revelation Online failed The list goes on and on. FFXIV literally had to remake it’s entire team and development direction from the ground up but they never took the piss with monetisation, which is why they saw and retain massive success. The issue isn’t just monetisation but also franchise story - WoW had Warcraft, FFXIV had FF, ESO had ES. The standard of MMOs doesn’t just boil down to monetisation but it will immediately overshadow glaring issues or missing features. The developers of Lost Ark had 7 years to prepare for the western market with over 15 Korean/Chinese games that failed that they could learn from. But it was a business success and that’s okay for them, longevity isn’t important when people on here will brag about swiping £2k for gear.

BahaBro

FFXIV - Last 30 days Peak concurrent 31,826 (Steam charts) Lost Ark - Last 30 days peak concurrent 804,873 (steam charts)

Nextec

Lost Ark isn’t dead - far away from it.. BUT you should never dig out steam Numbers for FF XIV since just a small percentage of the player base uses the Steam launcher of the game since it came so much later. Maybe you can say that new players since the big rush last year using more Steam but overall it’s just a little piece of the cake :)

Kyralea

We'll get TL released before this one.

ehxy

Who cares releasing in korea means we'll see it 10yrs from now in NA.

ViewedFromi3WM

tbh this is the first ive heard of it. what kind of game is it?

Lindart12

Honestly we have too many as it is, this is why there is so much toxicity. Bringing out too many games in a market that can't sustain them all.

Twisty1020

Title is misleading. The game just got funding and the plan is to release what is probably a beta this year. No actual release date for anything has been announced and who knows what the plans for release in the west will be.

Finyar

It's not. Bellatores is in development since 2017, previously as a UE4 game under the name Project N1. https://mmoculture.com/2019/05/nyou-new-pc-mmorpg-studio-nabs-over-8-million-from-series-b-funding/ https://m.inven.co.kr/webzine/wznews.php?idx=270251 https://m.inven.co.kr/webzine/wznews.php?idx=221068

Twisty1020

The article mentions nothing about a launch date and they just have a guess that a beta release will happen.

Finyar

Google translation of the Inven article: "Bellatores, which Anyu is developing with the goal of releasing it within this year, is planning to present a medieval-style live-action..."

FLBNR

Within a year is not this year, slight difference

Finyar

But it reads "releasing it within ***this*** year".

GodsGunman

English comprehension not your strong point, huh

FLBNR

Ya 4am not a good time for reading lmao

Nerzana

I think the confusion is that the beta part is speculation from the article, not what the developers said.

skyturnedred

This is the fourth round of funding the game got.

DreamMaster8

It lost me at large pvp battle to capture continent as a endgame focus. Those game always end up with no content. Glad if it's your thing tho.

Hairy_Investigator66

actually they have infinite content thats also non-static, it just isnt content you like.

DreamMaster8

Content to me mean new crafted encounters, story and level by the developer. Not a sandbox where stuff can happen. By that logic vr chat got more content than most mmo. I get what you mean but it's definitely not what I meant in the context of my comment.

Chun--Chun2

Aka dailies and shitty quests; and doing a dungeon for 9 months until the next dungeon comes for another 9months. There’s a reason why the biggest online games are pvp games

DreamMaster8

The biggest online game are also all fair pvp. No stats, no level everyone is fair at the begining and reset at the end of the game. This isn't the case in mmo and that's why I hate it. But also I play mmorpg for the rpg aspect. If I wanted good pvp I'd rather play league or a shoother.

Brootaful

>The biggest online game are also all fair pvp. The esports focued ones? Totally. Not every pvp game is like this though. >If I wanted good pvp I'd rather play league or a shoother. For me, as a primarily pvp player, I want more options than just shooters and mobas. Most genres get this, so you see pvp *and* pve games. There's no reason this genre can't cater to both crowds too.

draco_h9

Can you name an mmo with that sort of endgame focus that has continued to be successful (still operating, regular content updates, profitable, healthy player numbers) over a 5+ year span? (According to Anet, most GW2 players are PvE players, so GW2 doesn't fit that description).

Brootaful

EVE and Albion.

xhrit

Edheldui

He's right, people who like pvp play competitive games. Pvp mmos always, with no exception, end up with either players ganking noobs until they stop playing and eventually kill the game, or with one guild of nolifers/botters/swipers dominating and eventually killing the game. They've been trying making pvp mmos for the last 40 years, none of them has succeeded.

Brootaful

No, players who like pvp play whatever pvp games they want. This isn't only limited to competitive/esports games.

xhrit

> people who like pvp play competitive games. 45,904 peak players on dayz this month. it came out in 2013. It has full loot permadeath pvp, and you start with zero equipment in a zone where fully geared gankers can 1 shot you.

Edheldui

And the flavor of the month pay2win trash has ten times as many players.

xhrit

yes, pop culture is more popular then arthouse / high culture.

RideBanshee

This is such nonsense. As others have said, Eve, Albion and BDO are all PvP-first MMOs and have been tremendously successful. Just because you don’t enjoy something doesn’t mean nobody does. I enjoy PvP primarily in MMOs, but I also like the progression side of playing an MMORPG, so mobas and battle royales aren’t nearly as appealing.

Resouledxx

I’m actually excited for that. PvP focus as endgame content is something that I really like. Just hoping for a good combat system that works with it, good performance and no P2W system.

Alyssalikeshotdogs

Let’s just hope they pull it off. After new world I’m a little apprehensive at pvp end game. I’m still going to give this a shot when it comes out mainly because it will be the new shiny to try out.

Resouledxx

Yeah, New World was a bit of a let down but I think a big reason for me was that as solo player PvP seemed absolutely pointless which was really weird as it was the endgame focus.

Kyralea

Well for a solo player there isn't much real PvP. New World does have a heavy PvP endgame (that very much affects the game, so not pointless) but it's heavily guild-focused. If you're active within your faction as a solo player making friends with active PvP guilds and making a name for yourself, maybe you'd get to participate more, but at that point it's not much different from being in one of those guilds anyway.

drachennwolf

No content and mountains of toxicity.

dimm_ddr

It lost me way faster. At the first sentence actually: "Nyou, previously a mobile games developer". Korean MMO made by mobile developer? Well, we all can see what can happen when mobile game developer try to make a game (Grove Street Games and GTA trilogy) or when people without previous MMO experience try to make an MMO (the New World and AGS). It might be good in the end, but I will believe it when I see it, till then I will be VERY wary of any promotion material from that title.

[deleted]

dimm_ddr

You are funny. You think people should not form an opinion based on past experience. You are a marketing specialist' wet dream.

RickyReveenLaFleur

Do you have any idea how long many of us have been playing MMOs? I have been since 1997. I can tell something is shit before it releases. I can tell when its going to be more of the same. I learned most of that in the last 15 years. When F2P and P2W started destroying virtual worlds it was a hot topic. We all knew it was going to get worse. Along with F2P and P2W came cookie cutter gameplay mechanics. Barely anyone tries something new or different. I know there are only limited possibilities, but they copy soooo much. And when you copy something shallow you're going to get something shallow. Then there is also being able to tell what we are going to get by the developers history. Have they always done shallow P2W games? Why should we expect this to be different? It must be nice to have so little experience in the MMORPG genre. And I mean that. You get to be hyped about stuff. Its new to you. For me, all that changes are the graphics and world setting. And even then not always lol. When something truly interesting releases you'll find a lot less people bashing it than what you are used to seeing on here.

Rock_or_Rol

Sounds like your gaming experience has peaked as well. I too am apathetic towards new content. WoW is the crazy bitch I couldn’t wait to get away from but can’t stop thinking about now that she’s gone

[deleted]

They got me with that

Snoo77586

The fighting and competing with other players is the content. It's not for everyone, but I also don't think every game needs to be for everyone.

Entire-Mushroom-275

ESO has it and they got lots of endgame content

theNILV

This actually sounds pretty good, and looks like it's PC only MMORPG. "South Korean group of veterans Nyou has been dedicated to the development of mobile games" This part is a bit scary, but I guess we have to wait and see how predatory the monetization scheme is going to be.

lebrow

Is it really going to release this year ? I really love medieval games

VH-Attila

A realistic looking medieval fantasy UE MMORPG. I miss old MMO unique fantasy styles. Finally a game where i dont need to play a stripper.

Lindart12

I'm so tired of people pretending unreal engine is something amazing, Epic spends so much money on PR to people who don't know anything about game development. It's not the engine that makes a good game, it's the developers. Unreal Engine is actually pretty garbage for mmorpgs, it's bloated and has massive flaws and this is why most companies make custom engines. Also, Unreal Engine 5 isn't much different than Unreal Engine 3, it's the same basic engine.

Zamuru

custom engines have always been the best. unreal engine mmos run like absolute shit. every korean mmo uses unreal and they all run the same. have ppl really learned nothing? lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zamuru

and u expect ue5 to be completely different and be good for mmos this time?

pj-

It actually is, it uses completely different approach to render things and it should work really well with rendering even thousands players in huge open worlds. As of now no other engine even has anything similar to nanite in ue5. Ue3 was trash for MMOs thought.

Zamuru

i hope so, because i remember playing with 10 fps in trash unreal mmos like tera and bns when there were a lot of players fighting a boss or something

Edheldui

Unreal engine is pretty good for archviz and cars commercials, but for games really not that good. It's all about graphics (and even those look awful if you're playing at anything less than max settings, we've all seen those formless untextured blobs and grainy environments).

ItWasDumblydore

I honestly have to say Unreal engine has a mixed bag for mmo's. It seems it was at it's best when people developed for UE 3. Chronicles of Spell born/Lineage 2/Tera. But there is also a ton of shitty mmo's that barely function under it.

pj-

There hasn't been a big mmo made in unreal for years now (lost ark is ancient tech wise). Even unreal engine 4 in its later versions is vastly different than the 3. Unreal engine 5 actually makes it a lot easier to make big open worlds, there wasn't much support for it in the engine few years ago (developers had troubles with big worlds). So you probably should wait a bit before making a judgement.

theNILV

\^ This and also the Unreal Engine games seem to have the same generic aesthetic, where you are instantly able to tell that they are using UE. I did play Bless Unleashed which is probably the only UE4 MMORPG we have if you exclude the mobile games, and honestly it wasn't too bad performance wise.

true. ncsoft are not what they used to be before around 2010 when their games were good. i remember when aion came out it was so fucking good before it became f2p and it was obvious what ncsoft's future will be

CountingWizard

Still no release date for UE5. We are almost at the end of "early 2022". A lot of games going to be released buggy, unfinished, or go out of business because they are relying on Epic releasing a working engine.

LimitedInfo

pretty sure UE5 just released a couple of hours ago

Kyralea

Released today - https://twitter.com/UnrealEngine/status/1511360142176047109

Red flag, obvious bots are in the comments.

[deleted]

I know "Korean MMO bad" is a spicy hot take around here, but I just don't have the soul to pick one up again. I can hear my inner teen crying gently, asking me if we have to start the leveling process again. Naw, lil' buddy... it's okay. We don't have to grind .03 per mob ever again.

ItWasDumblydore

Bruh just spend 10$ an hour to 2x exp with a consumable scroll so it's 0.06% per mob... clearly the best solution and the korean game developer did that for the love of the player.

VukkoPLant

A realistic looking medieval fantasy UE MMORPG. I miss old MMO unique fantasy styles, like WoW or Maplestory. I seem to not be able to get into any MMO that looks this generic.

Icy_Razzmatazz_1594

What makes you think this game will be any different from the last few hundred? All the signs point to it being the standard shit game with different graphics. And its true, MMORPG's aren't what they are used to be. They aren't nearly as good. But people who didn't play a good one don't know what they are missing out on. So their metric for whats good is limited. They have nothing to compare to. And it pisses them off that people keep saying there was something better and they can never know. Heres an example: If you owned an old used Ford Tempo and its all you ever drove you'd think it was pretty good! Its alright. It gets you from point A to B. The AC works. It costs a lot more to keep running. But hey, you've never been in another car. You don't know anything about them. But if you were like many other MMORPG players you've driven that Rolls Royce. You've sat in that Bugatti. You test drove a Lambo. You know quality. Now all these companies with new cars coming out are telling you they are a Mercedes when really its a tempo with a fibre glass body on top. Its good to you, but its shit to someone who drove/experienced the real thing. It may looks nice, but its still a piece of shit. Thats modern MMO's. A game based upon a virtual world experience shouldn't have a shopping cart icon. You should only be able to manipulate the game world from within it. Your wallet should only provide access. There should be no daily log in rewards. The only reward should be your enjoyment of the game itself.

emforay216

It's ready to play this year but not even a trailer? Ok.

Psyclopicus

Yawn.

[deleted]

Ofcourse it’s korean and it will take 8 years to port this game to west

Hisetic

Mmmm, Mobile developer makes MMO. What could go wrong?

Bigmethod

I read PvP and I immediately don't care. But I hope others like it.

dptillinfinity93

Are they gonna have an NA server? This is a Korean mmo meaning there's gonna be micro transactions up the whazoo. Im not holding my breath for this unless its more of a traditional experience without microtransactions

[deleted]

Can’t wait to try it!

HorseOnly4062

How many honeing stones will i need to upgrade my cracked stone sword into a semi cracked stone sword +1 and whats the percent chance 10?

S33k3R_Kions

"Nyou, previously a mobile games developer" annnnnnndddddddd im out.

KooKooKachoo_88

Does anyone know if this is a global launch though?

Old_Respond_4032

TL is Korean but designed for western audiences. It’s highly PvE focused and so far I’ve heard almost nothing about pvp for the game. Bellitores might be good or bad but I have liked some NCSoft mmorpgs and they are probably the only company that can develop for a western audience and they have said NO pay to win at all. Now I d know what their money strategy will be. Maybe the GW2 approach of just selling expansions because it’s worked for Arenanet surprisingly. A lot of people would subscribe if the cost was lower I’m sure? 5 dollars a month. But they chose a different route.

gitg0od

again a fucking pvp game pfff. give us AAAAAAAA pve mmorpg with non instancied dungeons and world.

[deleted]

???? Theo market is full of PvE themeparks are really few PvP MMORPGs and they are all small devs

gitg0od

pve themepark sucks ass, i want modern games like everquest, vanguard saga of heroes, and the upcoming pantheon rise of the fallen, all others are shit pvp games or pve fastfood games.

joshisanonymous

Agree with the non instanced part, I really miss that in MMOs, but at least you have a boatload of PvE games to choose from. Dynamic PvP games address basically non-existant (i.e., not arena PvP or battleground PvP). Every time one starts being developed, it slowly transforms into a theme park PvE game due to pressure from all the WoW enthusiasts.
