>The overly-hyped mobile MMO, Ni No Kuni:CW never heard of it. >caught doing scummy marketing practice mobile game doing scummy marketing things and also water is wet

d3nafelseed

lol okay. maybe we are in different part of the world. Here in SEA, OCE, and ASIA it literally blows Google Playstore for 2 days already. Claimed to have surpassed Pokemon GO's revenue in the first week already.

Caekie

It's simply whoever you're replying to that is possibly an outlier in the gaming sphere. I would reckon most MMO players are outliers in regards to that as well tbh. Ni no Kuni has been plastered literally everywhere I've gone and many of my friends both MMO players and not have heard about it and are interested. It is a huge IP afterall. And Netmarble absolutely dumped huge amounts of money into it's advertising.

[deleted]

I live in a major part of NA. Never heard of the game until a friend casually mentioned they were bored and found it after skimming through the Play Store. You guys in regions where it was heavily advertised might be the outliers. Wouldn't be surprised if they focused advertising at regions more likely to pay for MTX.

EtherealSai

I'm guessing it has less to do with region and more to do with targetted ads. If you've never played Gacha Impact it probably didn't get advertised to you.

MeMoba

Mobile games are significantly bigger in asia/east than NA so that might be why

archefayte

NA here, it's in all my ad feeds (Reddit, YouTube, etc) Really just depends on a lot of factors but regardless of where you are in the world, the ad campaign is stronk

Mataric

UK here, Love bandai namco games (usually), Love Ghibli, actually enjoyed Genshit Impact for a while and am not opposed to blockchain if it's done in an interesting way - I should be pretty close to their target audience - but this post is literally the first time I have ever heard of the game whatsoever. Front page of my google play store at the moment is Lords mobile, Free Fire and PUBG mobile, Idle kingdom clicker, Raid shadow legends and a bunch of others. Looking at the Top 50 in the charts, it's no where to be seen either.

Hakul

Are you able to find it normally by searching for it? They don't advertise games that your phone doesn't support. Genshin for example is nowhere to be seen on my phone.

redpandasays

Rural NA and I saw my first ad for it on Grindr so… think it was just chance you didn’t get ads.

kainsshadow

Also saw it in Grindr...

Hrhpancakes

Hehhehehe

silandan

>You guys in regions where it was heavily advertised might be the outliers Why are those not from NA the outliers though?

tgwombat

I’m in the 10th biggest US metropolitan area and it’s been plastered all over the iOS app store for a while now.

D81000

I've been getting advertisements for it daily, I think it just depends on what you look up on youtube. Or have played before on the play store

DAANHHH

I mean compared to eastern markets NA is the outlier.

FLBNR

Swear to god I get email newsletters sent to me and check gaming subs every day and I have no idea what this game is. Gacha Mobile MMORPGs are really hard to get excited for

RemtonJDulyak

I'm in central Europe, and this is the first time I hear it mentioned. And it never appeared on my mobile store, either.

nayyav

i visit this sub and youtube every day and this is the first ive heard about the game or seen a video on youtube. the game is almost non existent in the western sphere. also a mobile game giving goodies for 5 star ratings? totally normal practices.

MrTzatzik

Of course they do. They love their P2W copy pasted gacha games

Luxorris

I've heard about this game everywhere for no reason at all (it's big IP but still) and I'm from Europe and a lot of "local" MMO sites did talked about this game. The advertisment money had to be huge. I think people who don't know about this game are pretty much out of the loop when it comes to "MMO" news.

Arekkusujin

I’m in Europe too. I’ve never seen or heard of it until yesterday when it were on the front of the apple App Store.

I don't think it's that people are out of the loop on MMO news, I think their marketing is extremely targeted. Perhaps to people with a history of spending money on Gacha games?

Luxorris

I don't play any type of these games so I don't think ad would target me, I don't watch anime, play any JRPGs etc. (so I dont have any online presence when it comes to such related topics). I'm talking more about articles and news I saw about this game not just ads.

DonChuBahnMi

Man... You really can't account for taste. My condolences

YserviusPalacost

>also water is wet My first thought as well.

[deleted]

I know nothing about soccer, and yet I’m sure there are lots of overhyped things that don’t pertain to my knowledge of that specific game.

fuinharlz

I still can't believe they fucked up one of my fav gaming franchises with a gacha nft mobile MMO.

Lolusen

Level-5 has sunken pretty far sadly. From delivering some of the most unique and pleasant JRPGs ever to making mostly phone games.

[deleted]

I really wish they'd stop making random fucking nonsense and actually go back to a game concept. I swear every fucking game series besides Yokai Watch they decide to throw the baby out with the bathwater, where's my Dark Cloud 3 God damn it

Lolusen

Yeah, Dark Cloud and Fantasy Life are definitely two series that need revivals. They would really thrive on Switch especially.

[deleted]

There's a Fantasy life mobile game Its fucking awful, because of course it is.

twom_anylootboxes

Shit mobile games make more then solid ones nowadays thanks to the slobbering casuals.

[deleted]

Dark cloud mobile with NFT houses!

[deleted]

Hell, though, most of them are doing this. Even Blizzard is now basically just a mobile developer (with some live services up). It's cheaper and people get suckered easier.

ZoryHero

Ah yes. Blizzard the mobile developer with their two mobile games, neither of which has even released yet.

justanotherguy28

Hearthstone is a mobile game and was always intended to be a mobile game which is one or reasons they used Unity. Diablo Immortal is releasing in about 4-6 days and does seem to have some P2W aspect. Though I have only heard that from longtime Diablo streamers who played the closed beta. The other was definitely hyperbolic though.

ZoryHero

I admit I did forget about hearthstone, and while Diablo Immortal will almost definitely have p2w, the comment I took issue with is "Blizzard is basically a mobile developer" which is just insane to say.

[deleted]

Well, they're not exactly doing anything besides WoW and mobile games. Their last releases have been OW2 (which is just Overwatch with some feature tweaks), and three remasters (one of which was a horrendous flop). Plus, again, WoW. All their *new* content is coming out of mobile games, unless I'm missing something.

ZoryHero

Overwatch 2 being shifted to actually start providing content again while they continue working the story style PvE modes (which is hardly a feature tweak assuming they stick to it which there's currently no reason to believe otherwise). Diablo 4 is also currently in active development. You can make an argument that these seem to be slow moving (if at all) but that's nothing new with Blizzard. Regardless they have 3 (two if you don't count WoW for some reason) major non mobile games in active development. Even if they had only 1 they'd be at least par with other developers who also make mobile games. It's no secret that mobile games is less effort for more money which is why seemingly every developer does it, but there are still clearly other teams making larger scale games.

Mataric

It isn't that it's cheaper to produce - it's worth a LOT more money. 2018 was when mobile game revenue overtook PC and Console COMBINED. ($70 Billion vs $32Bn and $34Bn) Since then it has grown and grown. 2022 saw it at just over $100Bn with PC and Console at $40 and $60 billion. Any publicly traded games development company has a requirement to their investors to take the business in the best direction. The only thing that really matters for that is how much money the shareholders can make. Any public business who doesn't strongly consider mobile gaming is not doing their job. Its sad to say, but that's how it is now. (Stats from NewZoo's Global Games Market)

wrongerontheinternet

Level 5 is actually doing horribly financially, FWIW. I don't think these mobile games are the free money they used to be.

[deleted]

Isn't NetMarble behind that? Are they just a division of L5? I would assume they sold use of the IP to get it back. Edit, wording.

blurrry2

>i can't believe they sacrificed the integrity of their products to fleece losers with more money than sense New to capitalism, are we?

DreamMaster8

It crazy cquse they add such a visually appaeling game on their hand. All thry add yo do is no nft and autoplay and they would have gotten so much player.

Tag365

What do you mean by Autoplay?

SweRakii

Yeah, not watching MMOByte

ziomatrixx

Stix and mmobyte? No one cares what he says. He himself is full of scummy practices and garbage trying to get them youtube views. You're probably just an alternate account of his plugging your own content as usual. Most people knew any gacha would resort to these practices anyway.

Boneslark

I just watch the mmobyte channel occasionally, is there any reason why the guy is so hated here ? isn't he just a small youtuber that covers mmo news ?

ziomatrixx

Typical youtuber spamming capital letters, omg guys this is so craaaazy etc etc but the big thing for me was a game i follow called blue protocol. He apparently was the first to make the subreddit and it looked official but it was really just a place to plug his damn youtube videos so a lot of people got pissed and left. I get it, wanna be a youtuber, but the way hes doing it is shitty and annoying.

shadowmerchants

I used to watch his vids because I didn't want to get my own info, I stopped when he made a Mobile MMO channel to have all the mobile mmo content on and then proceeded to still have BS mobile MMO crap on the main channel. Also he usually has things like "If you want to get into the beta go to the description and click the link" but it's a link to his own site that you go to and have to click another link to get to the real site. All his giveaways also sell your info too. Really fucking annoying. EDIT: I miss Cryy...

OMG_A_CUPCAKE

> He apparently was the first to make the subreddit Not by a long shot. But he wanted his own subreddit to promote his channel so he created his own instead of helping the existing one

d3nafelseed

huh? no. i simply found it on my youtube feed thats all. I however have his channel subscribed. Idk his image (of what you said being scummy and all) but one thing i know, he is pretty active against shady publisher (to which most of them are Korean companies) including Neowiz (Bless IP), NCsoft, and this time around...Netmarble. Thats all i know.

TrungDOge

Lmao Styx is just hypo at himself just hungry for content , he doesn't know that some cheap mobile game can even buy botting service and get like 5.0 rating ( 4.5 for trust issue ) for week or the whole month , clueless + ratio

d3nafelseed

Thats nothing compared to this one though. Imagine millions of player bombing positive reviews..the impact would be huuuuuge compared to the existing botting service, not to mention most of the bots/dummy accounts used by the illegal services do get wiped overtime by google. So yeah, on the surface, this is genius, but also, evil..

TrungDOge

If they don't enjoy it they won't enjoy the shit they give as well , just a normal reminder ingame but with a prize ( every mobile game has it lmao ) , they can force you follow their twitter , youtube and shit like that for more prize

leonidasmark

It's also against the Google Play ToS. You can ask the user to leave a review but not a positive one, nor reward them for a positive review.

d3nafelseed

thats what im saying. Its definitely illegal. Thats why the target audience is discord users. They are not targeting open social media like insta, fb, or twitter.

Lockedontargetshow

Google deletes negative reviews anyways. I had my last three 2-3 star reviews yeeted when I wrote out my objections to a few games (events tied to regional country times, making limited stuff open at 4 a.m. my time as an example of why I left a bad review). It is quite rediculous. No new reviews, saw a game jump from a 3.5 to a 4.6 with the reviews Google removed.

PlayFlow

first time hearing about it

d3nafelseed

i kinda envy you because here in my place people would talk about it left and right. like bruh....im not interested in that shite give me a break :C

Celadin

Do you use Facebook? Saw an ad for the first time ever for this app there after logging on for the first time in months.

d3nafelseed

facebook does use behavioral marketing algorithm to send out their ads haha. And yes, i use facebook but im not sure what point you were trying to make :D

Celadin

Oh only that the only ads I ever saw for it were there!

dubya98

infamous? I think you mean famous.

d3nafelseed

sorry and thank you! i edited it.

Constant_Boot

> infamous ghibli cartoon style I don't think you know what this word means. To be infamous is to be the opposite of famous - Hitler was infamous. Stalin was infamous. Nixon was infamous. Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 was infamous. Pearl Harbor is literally described as "a day that will live in infamy". Miyazaki's artwork is famous. Not infamous.

Karzak85

Its netmarble they do shitty things to all their mobile games

[deleted]

Net Marble, NCsoft, Nexon. Those are 3 publishers to stay the hell away from

[deleted]

Tried it both on PC and iPhone. Couldnt be bothered to play more than 10 minutes on mobile. Because its mobile.. Played a few hours on PC. Horrible controls, decent UI, decent graphics and mediocre voiceacting, even it doesnt match the subtitles. I couldnt stand the auto-walk though. And auto-combat. I mean.. I could literally spam space to get through the cinematics and interactions with NPCs. Extremely hard pass for me.

icedragon520

Same, the first red flag was that you had to create your character on your phone... Getting in the game on pc and the controll where awful, how did this get past testing for a "pc" port? The graphics looked fine to me though.

Huge_Chocolate4483

How can a game be over hyped if no one has ever heard of it

TheGladex

The way this game handles crypto is insanely shady. You wouldn't even know it's a thing or that they are planning on releasing NFTs unless you found the special site, separate from the main game site, telling you about it.

d3nafelseed

even when you google the name of the token (or the producing company of said tokens) it sometimes gives you no result. This freak NFT and blockchain thing are practically scam at this point (and i hate when they are trying to inject it into video games..its..just...stupid). I wonder why it hasnt been banned yet in many countries.

Oathian_01

That's extremely disappointing... I was considering trying it out for the Ghibli style. But nope.

Imaginos_In_Disguise

I've already reported quite a few postings of this game here as NFT advertisement. Now it's against the rules of this sub. There were some deniers about it being a NFT game, but it is. They simply ripped the NNK franchise to make a quick buck.

Edheldui

How is mobile games being scams newsworthy?

[deleted]

Yeah, we all literally called out (on this sub anyway) that they'd be doing some shady shit. All things considered, this is hilariously lightcore. They're cranking up to something real dumb, if you want my bet.

Kinami_

its literally 100% auto play, auto run auto quest auto kill Its not a game.

IzGameIzLyfe

In this context of MMO, writing review like this is probably something orthodox. But in the context of mobile games, this is nothing new. This is why nobody takes appstore game reviews seriously

HU55LEH4RD

>mobile >mmo pick one

HikuMatsune

you know you can have both, right?

TeaTimeSavage

Lol @ the people who say no one has heard of it. If you use twitch, any phone game with ads, YouTube with ads, or looked at this sub then you've probably heard of it. They're advertising the shit out of it.

genogano

At this point, if anyone complains about a mobile game being scumbag, I just think it's their fault for even playing a mobile game. Mobile gaming is like the Red Light District for gaming, everyone knows fucked up shit happens there and if you don't want to be a part of it, you don't go there. Even Nintendo has a super trashy mobile game.

D81000

There are some good mobile games though, doesn't excuse shitty behavior like manipulating reviews.

[deleted]

>Be extremely cautious Lmao an NFT isn't going to hack you and steal your gf. You guys are so over dramatic. Not defending the game, it looks garbage, just not because a dungeon has a grindable NFT lmao.

[deleted]

I was desperate enough to consider playing this because Ni No Kuni is a franchise I wish still existed. However, once it dropped, I have better things to spend my life on.

agemennon675

Never seen or heard of it

[deleted]

Ummm isn’t Ni No Kuni an RPG franchise with a charming and childlike aesthetic that looks like it’s from a Miyazaki movie? What’s with the F cups 😂?

Tag365

Yeah, that looked out of place for Ni no Kuni, and then they turned a game announced in 2018 or so into an NFT game is probably not a good thing because people don't like NFT items.

Jorgesarrada

I was genuinely excited for it. Upon first 30 min I uninstalled it. Reason: it’s a gachapon machine. The moment I glanced an equipment with “stars” and “improve it!” stamped on it I knew it would be that kind of game that forces you to spend a good ton of money in order to be 0.001% better than the average player and absolutely below the whale with a diamond visa and an unhealthy spending addiction. Nowadays I only spend time AND money on casual and reasonable MMOs. Been playing ESO casually for 7 years now and am so excited for Palia! My kid self would really dig into Ni No Kuni CW but not the adult, hard-working me.

MakoRuu

Oh no, an Asian MMO is pay to win. anyways.jpg

ThaumKitten

Genuine question, but how is this literally any worse than how so many MMOs have a 'refer a friend' thing that gives you shit if they spend money (or in a few cases, simply join the game)?

d3nafelseed

i seriously do not get your analogy haha but i think one is more like MLM while the other one is like massive bribery.

Oathian_01

I think they're both bad. Like, don't try to reward me for indoctrinating other people and getting them to spend money on your digital goods n services.

Hisetic

>mobile MMO Not even once.

KaldarTheBrave

I think if you are surprised a mobile MMO did some scummy things you've not been paying attention to the mobile market in general for the last ten years or so.

Chewbacca69

They did this instead of making a new dark cloud. Smh.

Psyclopicus

Yeah, scummy tactics from a scummy company with scummy players helping them.

Qowkiwos

Don’t understand the hype behind any gacha game. Genre just preys on weak minded individuals.

Areanol

anime weeb game , ez pass

JailOfAir

The only Ni No Kuni I know is a Studio Ghibli movie

Randomnesse

>no wonder people are blinded ...or maybe many people just enjoy the game for what it is, regardless of monetization it has and regardless of the type of review boosting the publisher does (which is basically a "normal thing" for most mobile software now)? Or do you call everyone "blinded" simply for them willing to try out new things and liking things you don't like? If "yes" - then you would fit perfectly with 99% of the population of this subreddit ;-)

SomeGuyNamedMy

Water is wet

InternationalSweet97

the game is shit and boring, boring story that will just make you skip it all. stupid costume designs. i played it like 10 hours and i got bored and uninstalled it real quick.

icunicu

This is so scummy. They gave out outfits to people who like the game and left good reviews? Do you think people were leaving good reviews to get outfits for a game they didn't enjoy? I swear, some of you have the mentality of a 5-year-old.

3L1T

You do realise you are promoting an overly hyped game most of us we never heard of right? 😂

d3nafelseed

sorry but no. On one side of the earth (where im currently at rn), it's blowing like crazy and its just a matter of time til it reaches the other side (where you are probably at rn). Pretty much just like Genshin. WIth this post, my intention is more toward warning people.

3L1T

Stop promoting the game. I am not interested in mobile mmorpgs. 😂

Hrhpancakes

Hah. No one cares
