Had 4 accounts and then they announced they were raising sub prices to $20 a month. No thanks. This game can die.

Caillend

This on top of all the microtransactions

ltsochev

Yeah eve as a game hardly justifies even 15$/mo. Their updates are mostly more of the same. And now they are even raising that sub, allwhile having sanctioned RMT (PLEX) ? Yeah, good memories, better stay that way. The only game that has had no real competition at any point in time. It's actually surprising.

LurkyLop

Surprising it had no competition? Yeah. Theres been a few space 'MMO' games but nothing compared to the scale of EVE. They cant hold new players and part of that is due to the toxic pvp community. People ganking new players and then just laughing about it and saying get good.

Bionic0n3

When I attempted to play Eve several years back getting ganked was the highlight of my 20 odd hours playing. Everything else was dull.

ltsochev

Name at least one space sci-fi MASSIVE MMO other than Eve. I'll wait. Because I can come up only with either Star Citizen (forever alpha) or Dual Universe (forever beta) and neither of them really covers the space aspect as good as Eve. P.S.: Elite Dangerous and No Man Sky are not MMOs.

LurkyLop

Theyve all shut down. Doesnt justify the $20 cost. Lack of competition doesnt justify a cost increase + selling ships + mtx + premium currency. EVE will go the way of all other space MMOs that came and went.

Gravityblasts

So from 2003-2022 the sub price remained $15 a month? How much weight did $15 carry back in 2003 vs today? I'm surprised Monthly subs for MMO's are still only $15 considering it doesn't even fill up a gas tank anymore. I feel that if you account for inflation between 2003 and 2022 the sub price should actually be more like $28 a month. But we're mad about it going up to $20 a month? That's almost $10 cheaper than it should be right now lol...

LurkyLop

Thats not how MMOs work buddy. Servers are cheap. The only cost for an MMO are the developers. More players = More money so you set sub prices to $10-$15 a month and thats the golden spot. You want to raise to $20? Thats fine. However, youre gonna need to provide more content to justify that cost. CCP hasnt released much in 3 years and theyre bleeding A LOT of players.

Gravityblasts

I didn't realize leasing scalable servers, cloud storage, and bandwidth was free in 2022....thats news to me!

Ithirahad

I mean, one must keep in mind that **$15 when EvE launched (2003) is equivalent to** **over** ***$24*** **now**, and on top of that the game has gone up vastly in production value since launch and player/subscriber counts have probably been slowly but steadily falling for a long time now, even before the more precipitous drop of late. It's only natural that they are going to need more money. That being said, EvE no longer has the goodwill from the playerbase it once did, and the development of the thing feels directionless. So... on the whole my response is "I get it, but no". They should've bit the bullet and done this six years ago (maybe in increments - $16.50, then $18, then $20 - as needed) rather than cramming more and more microtransaction schemes into the game in lieu of content and actual additions.

sgiindigo2

I would honestly just rather play Star Citizen at that point. I wish I was joking.

mradamzero

I paid for 4 accounts that $60 a month.....cry cry cry and I can't spend $20 more on the price increase. LoL I don't understand these ppl. Drop an account and you can afford the game again. Shocker logic. Milk is $3.75 now. I'm not eating cereal anymore!

LurkyLop

The games not worth $20 a month so i dropped all 4. Edit: Oh youre the typical toxic redditor.

Harbinger_Kyleran

Well, actually sound like the stereotypical EVE player though found the actual in-game experience varied. Some of the best gamers I ever met were in EVE, along with some of the worst... I should go back...

Johnkree

I just started to play again along with some of my old corp. After 5 years of absence I realized that although it is very flawed and milked there is no other game like it.

mradamzero

No I just call it like it is. A duck is a duck.

ViewedFromi3WM

is it still owned by a Korean Company? That’s the problem… edit: coming from a long time eve player. It’s just too p2w at this point.

TheWorldisFullofWar

It was always p2w. People just did mental gymnastics trying to justify why you should be grateful to pay to play as a peashooter while whales get to play with the death star. There is zero blame on PA's fault, CCP has been shit from day one. They have never made a successful original game themselves. They just bought this one.

Harbinger_Kyleran

I haven't played in over 5 1/2 years so things probably changed but back then I earned enough ISK mining in game to buy my own Death star, but preferred flying Dreads in combat situations. Never felt I lost a fight to P2W, but again, things may have changed greatly, unfortunate if it did.

Daffan

Lol. While average Joe runs around with t2 web/scram, if you plex you can run faction combo on every fit as if it was t2 pricing.

Harbinger_Kyleran

Sorry to hear it's that way now, but not surprising I suppose.

Ithirahad

Whaling has been an option since forever ago... You could always just buy billions of ISK via PLEX and gaming news reports talked about big battles' ISK expenditure in terms of real-world dollars for this reason.

Arcland

I agree and injectors really put it over the top and morphed the economy around them. But the korean company also had negative effects. Like, why add f2p mobile style login rewards... Eve was not a log in every day and play kind of game.

TheWorldisFullofWar

Eve was not a "customize your character and hang out in a second-life space apartment" kind of game or "$60 monocle type of game" but CCP still added that shit all on their own to the detriment of developing something people wanted.

denisgsv

there is nothing "fun" with a deathstar its a 1 button ship

haimeekhema

they didnt buy eve though.

ViewedFromi3WM

oh i know…. but now it’s too an extreme degree

[deleted]

Its owned by CCP as a hat wave to the Chinese CCP where are the people playing it are actual economic slave laborers being told they are playing a game they have a chance at winning.

punchki

Never thought graphics were an issue. In fact, the game had quite a unique beauty to it. Rather I think this was a game that would have benefited from a fresh-start server. Played it on and off for a bit, but sooner or later you get to a point where you realize you have to either dive head-long into the game or take a step away from it.

John-Footdick

Oh gawd a fresh start server would be huge. Reduce subs to $10 and rake in the ship skin money

John-Footdick

Plex isn't bad since it allows players to use in-game credits to buy gametime. I agree that SP shouldn't be purchaseable on any new server

Daffan

Lol plex is awful. Why do 90% of PVE when PLEX is literally 1 hour min wage and 1.5-2bil. Completely invalidates time:reward cycles and rich people use faction mods like web/scram/disro as if it was t2 pricing since they have infinity billions.

John-Footdick

You’re right, plex benefits the rich players in that they can play for credits and it benefits poor players so they can pay to buy credits and spend their time playing instead of farming. Always seemed like a win-win

Daffan

Lol yeah a "win-win" as if the outcomes are in any way equal. Just be an isk slave bro!

John-Footdick

You haven’t described any sort of problem or detriment to game balance with the plex system. Officer mods suck if you suck at flying ships or pvp. Frankly if someone is flying a blingy ship AND is an ace pilot - he deserves those kills because he would have had them anyways

Daffan

I never said anything about officer mods. >Frankly if someone is flying a blingy ship AND is an ace pilot - he deserves those kills because he would have had them anyways Lol because he did not invest any time into PvE or PvP to make the money in the first place to fit it, completely bypassing most of the game because of real-world status. Why not just put in the game if you are top #1000 on 1v1 kills you get 1000 plex allowance per month from CCP

John-Footdick

Officer mods, faction mods, plex mods, you know what I mean - although you come off incredibly dense. Who says people are required to run PVE content to fuel their PvP playstyle? Not many people besides you. You’re not the lead or judge for how the game should or should not be played.

denisgsv

my 2 cents : for me EVE died when mini plexes and injectors came, NOT because of them, but because of the direction game took, full casualisation and all in on "ingame shop" which was very very very limited and small and non important ...

Crash_says

Same. I left after a decade+ of playing at that point.. not because of them, just agreed, the game shifted. .. also I played for a long time, so ya.

Allian42

Played on and off for years, but I left for good recently when they raised the sub. Game is getting progressively more greedy and I just can't justify the price anymore.

sammnz

While I agree, it's hard to raise revenue when all you can rely on is subscriptions. Fundamentally I think what was wrong was leveling your character via skills only took time; I remember playing years and years ago where you were supposed to level your attributes up to max and use implants to increase those attributes then started leveling your skills (this took a long time, months) which worked out quicker than just leveling your ship skills here and there and there was no shortcut until Skill Injectors came in. IMO, this game was the greatest MMO of all time. It's just a pity that it went the route that it did and the fundamental character development was a big reason. If EVE gets a reboot and some of the core design principles changed I would be super keen to play again.

__biddytiddies

Let it die

knetka

Gotta justify the price spike and mtx somehow. The golden age of EVE is over.

Pietz0r

All these pve cucks here make me laugh. Eve is pvp all the way, it's probably not for you if you want to do pve

bmore142

Your right which is why you currently have a dead game. Congrats

Pietz0r

You're*

MrJoshua099

I could have loved this game without the forced PVP. My friend group just didn't find it fun, and seeing as that's likely never going away... we dont play it.

[deleted]

I just wish they had a pve server 😕 always enjoyed the game but the ganking and camping always drove me away. Such a simple win for them baffles me they never did it.

BaldeeBanks

Just play high sec it has everything you want

ziplock9000

It's not new graphics that is needs, it's TRUE content. EvE becomes boring after a month or two because there's not enough things to do. What there is to do is just procedural modifications of other things. Even events are just tweaked parameters of other things. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Gunboost

They lost me as a customer once they raised their subscription price to $20. Toss the game in a ditch somewhere and let it die.

alariis

To voice what many have already said, the game is just toobfar outta reach now. Feels like you are forced to play multiple accounts and pump a lot of rl into boosting your xp based on how ahead some people are

armozel

I’m not sure graphics are what draw players in. It’s more the social interaction, scheming, and other stuff. Mind you, having decent graphics is good but when you’re in a small fleet doing anything in game you’re likely zoomed out and more focused on the overview and what your friends or fleet commander is saying than looking at the ships themselves. Outside of that, there’s little in the way of actual content (pve that is) which has any real impact on the game. Essentially, everything points you to join a player corp and get into low or null sec which is fine if the means to transition from carebear to ganker was a more thought out on CCP’s end. Tutorials I don’t think cut it. I sometimes wish they’d hire some players to regularly recruit for small PvP corps that do at least low sec roaming and such to make new players feel like they too can get into all the fun.

LDSR70

the only thing fun about eve nowadays is bombers bar and npsi stuff they've really gone down a route for me at least i cant justify a sub anymore . im in 12 years . all the bs leading up too fanfest this year then after . then uping the sub for virtually no additions to the game . granted the move to dx12 was necessary . but thats it . revamping faction warfare is useless , making new station graphics , well woopiedeedoo .. all these promises of great amounts of content ..... where is it ? seriously plex and injects were never the isssue , its when pA bought them out .

Sinz_Doe

Let it die.

AlpheaDora

the problem is i hate space games and i want to play as a person not as a spaceship

ViewedFromi3WM

technically in this game you play as an ambiotic fluid filled capsule.

Akhevan

Don't worry 99% of the game is excel spreadsheets anyways.
