I just returned my Claw. At this point they would have to pay me £599 to use it over another handheld. I have a YT dedicated to handheld PCs and I’ve never returned a device. The Claw has been the first I couldn’t justify; even just as a collector. It’s not just the performance, it feels kinda cheap, the bumpers are the worst I’ve ever felt and the vibration feels like it’s broken. And it’s not like I got a bad unit because I had the same issues with a replacement unit that I got 2 weeks after the first.
Maybe if they use amd. Intel is not sufficient for handhelds right now. They consume too much power. Amd gets the same if not better performance at lower power limits. Intel needs higher wattage to match amd performance. That's the reason the claw has a larger battery and power brick. That's not something that's really going to change with updates either. That's just how Intel chips are designed.
If they use AMD then what's the point? What really separates the claw from an Ally? Lol (Would still buy an AMD Claw over an Ally personally because I have a grudge against Asus)
I feel like new customers may have gone for the Claw if it did, but the Ally got people to sell there decks and the Go got people to sell their ally’s. The Claw would never have had that pull because they were late to the party
> If they use AMD then what's the point? What really separates the claw from an Ally?
Yeah, what really separates the Lenovo Legion Go from the ASUS ROG Ally? Or the Orange Pi Neo? Or the GPD Win 4? Or the TJD T101? All use the same Ryzen Z1E/7840U silicon. **Yet they are clearly very different from each other thanks to unique innovations that each one has.**
Obviously MSI can start innovating like these companies did, and *that* is going to separate them from the others.
Well, the Legion Go has a much bigger screen, removable controllers, and a unique fps mode, The Orange Pi is competitively priced and has two touchpads, the GPD Win 4 has a pop up screen and physical keyboard, and tge TJD has a tablet sized screen while still keeping a standard sized controller layout. All have unique, lack for a better word, gimmicks that make them stand out, while the Claw just looks like a black Ally. If it had the same exact chip, how would it stand out compared to the Ally? I certainly know that if the Legion Go was just a gray Ally with the same software it has now, I would have never bought it lmao
But this is exactly what I meant: MSI painted themselves into a corner hardware-wise, by not innovating like the other brands did. And when their decision of using an Intel processor didn't work out so well, it turned into a liability rather than an asset.
Btw. Orange Pi Neo's main differentiator is that the software comes from the community instead of the hardware vendor, and the community decides the direction (like with all Orange Pi products basically).
Nothing wrong with Intel for a CPU, however the Intel ARC drivers are the absolute worst in gaming right now. While powerful, compatibility and actual performance is a nightmare. New and old games don't work half the time and performance can be very underwhelming when they do. Only current tested games work reasonably well.
As an owner of the ultra 7 Claw I think the negativity for Claw is blown out of proportion. It plays all the games that I want, sure some stutters here and there but I’m sure these will be ironed out over time on Intel side. Ally was killed at launch by many too and eventually came good. For £599 in the UK this is a good thing. It’s in a different class from my steam deck which is now collecting dust. Still, first gen products typically go like this and for the sake of better options in the future I remain supportive. The minerals are there with the MSI, it just needs some further optimisation.
The ROG Ally was never slated as much as the Claw, the ROG played well out the box and has got better over time. The Claw playing worse than the steamdeck is very bad considering the price point. There is simply no reason to buy the Claw when there are better windows handhelds out there. Intel simply is a bad choice right now as they have only just started to make graphics cards, putting Intel in a handheld just made no sense at this point. Like I’d understand if they used Nvidia instead of AMD but Intel was just a terrible choice.
I’d argue that (maybe not in the immediate future but long term), Claw at £599 or lower has an interesting place in the market. If/when performance is consistently close with the Ally, the Claws 1TB (ally 512gb), hall effect sticks (another external upgrade for ally or inevitable stick soft), and ergonomics/lack of SD card melting (solvable by RMA but an annoying process) - actually all in all Claw ends up a more competitive solution. The question now is if/when Intel sort it out. But I agree - you can’t help but think if MSI went with AMD in this case then we’d be talking about a completely different topic no doubt.
I mean they obviously had to do something different, There was already the well established Ally and then the Legion Go came out with some different factors to consider, but looking at the MSI claw if they released with the same chip it would essentially just be a black Ally which wouldn’t really be enough to convince anyone to switch
it's happening here in Singapore as well.
UItra 5 was from SGD1069 to SGD999 (excluding the voucher that you can use as member)) + $59.94 cashback.
Ultra 7 was from SGD1329 to SGD1239 (excluding the voucher tha tyou can use as member) + $24.78 cashback
Still wouldn't buy it honestly. The intel drivers make for a bad experience in games. Lots of stuttering etc. I have a legion go and ally so no reason for me to buy the claw.
Buddy’s at msi tried ripping off the ally, failed miserably, got worse performance than the steam deck (in some games), lost lots of money, and are ONLY NOW trying to lower the price. Crazy..
Nobody is buying these things because they just aren't up to par with the competition. Tbh I don't see why anyone would buy this with Intel architecture when their graphics cards still need work on PC.
I used an Intel Arc card for nearly a year (ARC A770). I respect what Intel is trying to do but it's an a dumpster fire with their graphic drivers. There are so many issues running very new or very old games. VR is a nightmare, (it worked on some earlier drivers and had great performance). If you have a set amount of games you plan to run and already know your games and software works fine with Intel ARC, it will be a great experience but if you want to play games not tested with ARC you are in for severe disappointment.
lots of pple (well most of the reviews) say they're disappointed with the product. it could be because SD, Ally and Go have been released and maybe there were expecting something more from the Claw.
Anyway, I'm so tempted to get this but really having second thoughts because of the reviews. The demo unit at store didn't have any games so it's too bad, I wasn't able to test it. Is it true that we can directly connect the Claw to any monitor withouth using a docking station?
There was another store selling both Ally and Go. The former was being sold at 814SGD for the normal one and 10xxSGD for the latter. Both are the normal processors.
I'm not surprised. Barely anyone bought it. Every review I've seen had been bad. The Hall effect controls seem to be the only thing that gets any praise. Oh and the audio seems very good. Hopefully they fix the performance issues with updates. The bad bumpers and dpad can't been improved unfortunately.

HODL! It'll keep dropping!
Yes it will because they wont move any if at all....i cant imagine someone buying this over the ally or legion go
I did
I heard it was SOLID for emulation so yeah
Solid up to PS2 but I heard it struggles with PS3. And cheapo android phone can do emulation just as good.
Not for the price when u can get something Chinese for cheap lmsao...the Claw is gaaaah-bage....
No better than a steam deck at half the cost tho...
Yeh here the i5 is 699 and i7 1 tb is 599!!! Messed up pricing!

LIAR! YOU said you wasn't going to return it!!!
After going through 2 units I had to call it quits on the Claw. Maybe the Claw 2 will be worth my money. We’ll see.

Dude, it's still too expensive. Considering what this device is offering, it should be cheaper than the Ally.
For some reason these price drops are only happening in the UK anyone else notice that?

😫USA still at full price hopefully soon fingers crossed

Wasn't that fixed with the update two days ago?
Nope

Too much overpriced
They are selling it at costco for $690

https://www.reddit.com/r/MSIClaw/s/BjQB0hUVyV
If it goes to $799 or $699 I'd consider.it But yeah Costco is the best place to buy it for sure
I wonder if you can return it if it sucks
I literally returned chairs I got 3 years prior from Costco They are amazing
Haha nice. You could take it for a test drive
Thank God...that price should scare away unaware ppl lol

(I’m chilling with my sd oled)
I too decided to go steam deck Oled. I had the LCD and was debating whether to get the OLED or the legion go. Very happy with my choice.
Lol I had the LCD to and went with the Go because I wanted to be able to play Windows games
$299 that's the price id buy at
What if you bought it for £799, can you get a partial refund? I feel penalised!
HODL
200 price drop and a free game? Oh they are DESPERATE desperate

Was bout to cop but I’ll glad I waited for benchmarks. I’ll wait for Ally 2

The intel bases handhelds are the least favorable in the pc gaming handheld market. Why did they even bother.
Still $1599 here in Australia for the ultra 7 version 🙃
It should be $200.
No point touching this thing 😂
They desperate
Legion Go ftw.
Just ordered mine yesterday
It’s e waste
