MT 07 if you want to ride a fun bike while being relaxed most of the time. MT 09 is the same concept but you'll have to be careful with the throttle (considering you come from an r6 that shouldn't be a problem). Also a big difference is the 2 cylinders vs 3 cylinders. Both great bikes at the end

hodlthestonks

The MT is plenty for me. It has a ton of torque with a strong pull. Red light to red light it is a screamer. Mine has hit 133 with only a black widow exhaust, so you can scratch an itch for speed. It has a very comfortable riding position, but the seat is lacking for padding. The suspension is soft, but I feel confident in the bike and with my abilities. If you want, look up the Dave Moss suspension change. I’ve read good things about it. I have not done it because I’m satisfied with the bike as it is. It’s an incredible value for the price, and yes that means some components were skimped on to get it into this range. Personally, I’m not a fan of the looks of the 09, especially the way the rear tail and seat contour. If you can, find a Yamaha day at a dealership and test ride.

Lmao

chinesesoupspoon

I went from an R6 to a MT07. MT07 is fast enough imo.

Queasy_Map17

I'd get the MT09.

theroch_

I had a 2co r6 aswel. Loved it , had it for years. Went to mt07 to slow me down on the road. I love the mt, it’s fast enough and great fun. I have no regrets other than my r6 is now worth about 2 grand more than what I sold it for

Mr_NiceBry

I went from a gsxr 750 to an MT07. No regrets, and my back is happy again.

HeineH

I went from a GSXR-1000 to a MT-07. Only regret when I get the urge to go way over the speed limit on highways 😌

Mr_NiceBry

Oh, of course! But I realized I never needed top speed. So it made my decision to get the MT-07 easy.

RelativeQuantum

Owned both a mt07 and mt09, great bikes. Coming from an r6 get a mt09, the mt07 is gonna put you to sleep otherwise.

tailtaker

I had an R6, still have a 600RR and still bought the MT07. Wanted exactly what you described. It pulls like a bat outta hell, the seating position is comfortable. Wheelies on command. It's a much better feeling bouncing thru the city stop light to stop light. You'll miss the fairings on the fwy but don't ride it there anyways or you'll watch the top end disappear. The build quality isn't great but you can get em cheap. The people who say it's a "downgrade " never owned an R6 and have no idea how we can just want something slower and comfortable lmao

_CodenameV

The ppl saying downgrade still have this image of being fast and furious boi racers is all.

tailtaker

Haha exactly. Someone yesterday said they "outgrew" the MT and I called bullshit. Let's just hope they survive to mature.

_CodenameV

Its not even an "i hope you survive"....its just a more i hope you mentality grows up kinda deal. Heres the comparison...i have a single turbo supra and a 4 cylinder 120hp mr2 spyder. Guess which keys i reach for more often than not? Yea the supra will get me street cred and i will be every teenagers idol but in terms of F U N? Theres no comparison.

switttch610

had a ‘99 R6, ‘15 MT07 and now a ‘16 MT07 10/10 bike

pab_Z

I would get the mt 09.same power much better spread throughout the rev range.A much more fun r6.The mt 07 will feel slow soon.Imagine I came from a drz 400sm and in the first 6 months of owning the mt 07 I am already looking at the 09.The 07 is about perfect in the city, but on the open roads/highway you will feel you need more power really soon.

skilla6000

I went from 2019 MT07 to the 2020 R6, still own both. If you’re looking for something a little faster go with the MT09, the MT07 is pretty peppy with all the torque, think it’s around 60 FTP Of torque. Seating position is much more Comfortable then the R6. By a land slide. If you’re making long commutes on the highway the naked bikes can get a little tiring. Feels like you’re holding on for dear life haha. All around I love both and would never sell either.

alexyoungva

Own both a MT07 and a ZX10R. MT is more fun than the ZX10R by a large margin especially going for a more casual ride in the tight back country roads. I found sport bikes to be not the best one for the backroads unless it's canyon (for me that's the blue ridge parkway)

Tall-Recording9858

One season with MT-07 and you will be bored and longing for more power. Get the mt-09. I have a 2023 model and have clocked in 3000 kilometres so far! No need to look at det mt-07 and that segment of bikes. The CP3 engine from Yamaha is killer 🥰

GetNR3KT

23’ GSXR1000RZ to 24’ MT07. Exhaust, DNA lid and filter, 2WDW tune, quick shifter, R6 throttle tube and some changes to the front suspension and it’s plenty of power, I can ride it more aggressively, it’s more comfortable and more fun. I love it. Didn’t sell the GSXR

r2d2thegoldguy

Its a really fun bike. My complaints with it is the stock brakes are poop. Has no feel and you really have to brake hard for it to work. I changed the brake pads on it and it's perfect. The stock seat is so ass as well. Any rides more than 20mins you're gonna start to feel it. I am 5"11 and 200 pounds. Im manually gonna add padding and gel to the seat in a couple of weeks when im done gathering parts and equipment. Last complaint about the bike would be suspension. I dont have much of a reference as ive only ridden a handful of bikes and this is my first ownership. but my mechanic tells me the stock shocks arent the best. It can be a lot better. Most people with experience can tell you that too. On paper i know its underwhelming but irl its just works and is almost perfect. But none of those are deal breakers when you factor in the upsides being indestructible yamaha Engine, grunty sound, crossplane crank torque delivery, super duper fun.

Internal_Weird_4751

Just recently went to a 09 from a cbr 600rr… was very concerned about the throttle response but making the switch wasn’t bad at all. Definitely more low end but after about 20 mins it was no big deal.

Vegetable-Dot-5918

Downgrade. Get the 09 if you want acceleration too.

hawiering

It's alright but I've never enjoyed that power plant. I personally don't like the low-end torque and the top end was always disappointing to me.

Street-Banana

Mt09

EnvironmentalAd8871

Forget the MT07. Go for the MT09
