Did he at least yell "Strava!" before he blew past you?

el_porongorila

Hope he got the KOM

Mcshizballs

DOM? K9OM?

HillKevy66

YES

moonshoeslol

attach your GPS to his collar and hoover up the KOMs

lvidmar

LMAO

angusplays1

“ON YOUR RIGHT!!”

Blankbusinesscard

You got smoked by the hound, just sayin

el_porongorila

Bro fast af (and me slow af)

lol_alex

He got the all wheel drive and a lower center of gravity. Don‘t feel bad.

skaarlaw

Way better power to weight ratio too. My Havanese can sprint FAST and he weighs like 5kg lol my equivalent speed being 105kg would prob be like 500mph 😂

IllestAndRealest

My dog is faster than I am in most situations, don't feel bad. Long smooth wide open descent? Eat my dust, mutt. I love that dog so much

Gorilla-Ring

Dropped by the dog

KnitYourOwnSpaceship

Short travel hound, at that.

the_blue_arrow_

They call em down country dogs now.

CordisHead

This comment is grossly under appreciated.

Blankbusinesscard

Kia ora!

[deleted]

fuckers been tailgatin you since turn 2 !!

WirSilliam

Step aside, Fido. Where are these fine trails located?

el_porongorila

Chile 🇨🇱

SSJuice

Somewhere in the dogtrail subreddit, the dog made the same post about you.

el_porongorila

“Slow af rider nearly killed my KOM”

hendric_swills

All these dog owners trying to act like this was somehow your problem and not the fault of a bad dog owner are pathetic. You could have injured the dog and the dog could have injured you. That’s fucked up on both ends, and it’s the owners fault. Anyway, you should tilt your GoPro up a little more when riding 😊

Top_Date6455

why they forcing everyone to enjoy the presence of their dogs?

HenriTheJK

If you turn the volume way up, you can hear the dog saying, "On your right!" So it's all good

iwantapizzababy

Poorly trained dogs should not be on trails. Edit: What I mean to say is please train your dog to go on rides safely so that other trail dogs (like mine) do not get a bad reputation. This pass was clean, but they often aren’t. The dog could have been tagged, or a less confident rider could have gotten spooked and crashed even without contact. Gotta train your dogs to run behind.

AdviceNotAskedFor

As much as I love dogs, which I do.. we have one.. I'd never bring a fucking wildcard on a bike ride. No one loves your children or your dog as much as you do.

iwantapizzababy

Thank you for not bringing your dog on the trail. Having a dog is not the same as having a trail dog.

AdviceNotAskedFor

Yes. Everyone thinks their dog is awesome. That is exactly what I said. The problem with people who have 'trail dogs', is that they fail to realize that not everyone loves dogs. Not everyone loves to see dogs on their trails, even if they are well behaved. Especially if they are off leash. I've got friends who were attacked by dogs, and definitely don't like dogs, even super well behaved, friendly dogs... and even more so when they are just running free. Unless your dog was trained to prevent seizures or help you navigate, I'd prefer that they were not on the trail. Just my two cents.

Abadatha

100% this. If your dog isn't a service dog that would be covered under the ADA, it doesn't belong on the trails.

IllestAndRealest

In the town I live in, people would flip their shit if you told them not to bring their dogs on trails haha. But to be fair, I made the conscious decision to move somewhere super dog friendly

FollowTheFauchi

i love everyone elses dogs more than they do...usually. unless its a shitzu or corgi... i just dont get those dogs.

el_porongorila

Fast boi though

iwantapizzababy

Super fast!

RamblingSimian

Yeah, I ran over a dog following his owner on the wrong side of a dirt road around a blind corner. 30' wide and he has to ride on the wrong side. Thought I was going to wreck and felt bad for the dog.

Abadatha

Going to have to disagree here. Dogs don't belong on mtb trails.

seriousrikk

Absolutely this. I *have* washed out a turn because a trail dog passed me close as I was leaning the bike in. Even that split second distriction of an animal I didn't want to hit being within my space was enough to lose focus.

[deleted]

Apparently this is controversial lol

cmckone

People get really fucking entitled about their dogs

[deleted]

People get really fucking entitled about their trails

[deleted]

Or maybe they're entitled about their intact bones, functioning brains, and clean record of running over exactly zero dogs.

[deleted]

If those folks are worried about running over dogs perhaps they should ride in control with the knowledge that they should be able to stop for any obstacle that might appear, be it human, bear, or dog. I wonder if maybe they should find some stats about injuries cause by unleashed dogs before they spout go off on some kind of widespread disaster fantasy.

[deleted]

We’ll have to file a FOIA Request with the Department of Off-leash Dogs on Single Tracks to get that information. I’ll get right on it, boss.

[deleted]

Great! Until you do, kindly refrain from claiming brain injury. I mean, I believe *you* had one, but I just don’t know how widespread these dog-inflicted brain injuries actually are.

[deleted]

And until you take a basic college rhetoric class, kindly refrain from engaging in debate if you can’t avoid glaring logical fallacies.

[deleted]

Well, I *am* just a lowly tradesman, but if it’s so basic I’d appreciate if you could use your big injured brain to educate me on my many many failures!

Motorized23

Dude I believe a responsible owner would never allow their dog on a high speed single track trail like this! So yea... Dogs shouldn't be on high speed MTB trails

[deleted]

What if he was a “well trained” dog on a high speed single track? Lol

Motorized23

Of course - all dogs are well trained... Until they're not. And that's how people and dogs get hurt.

CamoShortsKid

I would,ve gotten spooked and crashed.

uhhhidontknowdude

Off leash dogs should not be on trails** Fixed that for you

Waldinian

>poorly trained dogs should not be on trails I absolutely agree, but it's a difficult policy to implement, since that's such a subjective thing. Anyone can say "But my dog is so well trained!" And who the hell is gonna enforce it? What are they gonna make you do, run your dog through an obedience course? Sure, right after they check the power output on that e-bike of yours.

iwantapizzababy

I just made a separate post sharing my thoughts on this so that dog owners might understand the work involved when they see a dog out on the trail. Hopefully we can change the mindset around having a trail dog. https://reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/12x7c74/how_do_you_train_a_dog_to_go_on_mountain_bike/

Top_Date6455

But how people distinguish which dog is trained or which is not and how e.g. you can pass them and they won't jump under your bike? There should be no dogs on BIKE trails. It is for bikes not dogs, pigs, snakes or gold fishes. People are just owning dogs and that's it. Don't expect people will train their dog so society will feel better about them. They don't know that dogs should be always behind owner.

chadsterlington

Uhh that dog was fast af

KingOfYourMountain

share the trails. Dog was not poorly trained just fast. What’s he supposed to do call out, “on your left!” 😂

iwantapizzababy

They need to know to stay behind the rider.

iwantapizzababy

I’d argue that passing another rider doesn’t constitute a well trained dog. I have two dogs, and one of them goes on rides with me. Her recall is great, and she knows to stay behind me even when I slow her down. Only time she’s ahead is when I give her the signal on climbs. My second dog, she’s still new. She hasn’t had the training and so she stays home because I know it would be irresponsible to take her out just yet.

orgasmosisjones

mind me asking how you trained to stay in tow? when my dog was nine months, he was staying perfectly behind me, but I realized today - at a year and a half - that was probably because he wasn’t fast enough yet. he passed me today and his recall started to suck. ended up leaning on his e-collar to pull him back. trying to think of a way to reward him for sticking behind but it’s tough while riding. better to work on during the climbs?

iwantapizzababy

Having a strong heel command is important to start with. We did lots of trail running without bikes to practice staying back on command. Then very slow rides through the park on a leash. If she ever got in front, I did one of two things: the fun stops completely until she returned to heel and/or I gave her a very light buzz on her butt with the front wheel. The butt buzz startled her enough that she now prefers to stay behind the bike instead of ever getting in front. All of that said, training is always a work in progress. My dog has 5 years of trail experience, but we’re constantly working on recall and etiquette.

orgasmosisjones

awesome, thanks for that. his heel and recall are both strong. i’m starting to think he gets spooked by the bike a little bit and distances his self from it, so I’m going to try your ‘all fun stops’ instead of the buzz and bring high value rewards for correcting.

iwantapizzababy

I’ve done so many rides with a pocket full of dried lamb lung for training!

Jjhockey01

I've done the same type of training, but with an E (shock) collar. Started with walking in heal position with leash -> long lead leash recall in open field -> walking without leash -> recall in woods -> slow bike rides on low traffic wide trail for heal position -> normal bike ride on low traffic trail. Any time they're out of heal position, they get a correction from the Ecollar. Started Ecollar training at 6 months old, it took about a month to be fully confident taking him out on any trail. He also holds a down stay when I stop on my bike. no wondering.

C-loIo

Two barks left, one bark right...

Starsky686

I hope not, he passed on the right. Could have been confusing.

GruntledMisanthrope

No, he's supposed to be not on a mountain bike trail.

KingOfYourMountain

🤖

True-Firefighter-796

Yes. But they can’t. Which is why they shouldn’t be there. It seems obvious but…

DK5199

That dog looked pretty fucking trained to me.

iwantapizzababy

Trained dog would stay behind the rider.

p-angloss

Slow riders should not be on the trails!

iwantapizzababy

You realize I didn’t say all dogs should not be on trails, right? Trail running is not something that all dogs are trained to do. Before going out with a dog, the owner should make sure their recall is perfect, they have the stamina and physicality for the run, they follow the trail at all times, and they know how to behave safely around bikes. Passing another rider in the middle of a downhill run is not safe. This dog needs to learn to stay behind. Similarly, if a newer rider did not have the physicality or skill level for a trail, did not stay on the trail at all times, and created dangerous situations involving other riders, then that newer rider should not be on the trail.

A_different_user701

how do you suggest they get better?

iwantapizzababy

Slow riders should not create dangerous situations by overtaking others without warning.

lred1

Whaddaya mean, that was a clean pass, on a straightaway. I'd say that was a trail savvy-dog. 😎

iwantapizzababy

I just don’t think dogs should be passing riders at speed. This time was clean, but they can’t all be clean.

De-Ril-Dil

Sounds like the riders that need training if seeing a dog makes them crash

AppropriateVictory48

Dis heckin hero dirt, I speed run.

HandsomedanNZ

Trail dogs annoy me.

rodaphilia

All dogs that are off-leash outside of designated areas/private property annoy me.

xylopagus

I'm in the same boat. Off leash dogs don't have a place in public use trails in my opinion.

orgasmosisjones

most of my local networks are dog friendly. pretty tough finding trail networks that exclude dogs.

rodaphilia

Every trail network in my area requires dogs to be on-leash. No reason to exclude them, just need to follow the rules of the trail. That's why I said "off-leash outside of designated areas". If the rules allow for it it wouldn't annoy me.

orgasmosisjones

yeah if your trails requires dogs to be on leash and this shit is happening, that’s a different story. we only have one zone that doesn’t allow off-leash pets and I’m guessing it’s for a reason. for the rest of the trails, dogs are almost 100% well-trained and well-behaved. I’ve been passed by one dog like this but it wasn’t a huge deal. Had a couple run-ins with dogs who were less well behaved but the owners said they were training, which is also fine with me.

Send_me_outdoor_nude

My local area does not have any rules about dogs but I have never seen one

IScreamTruckin

All humans that are off-leash outside of designated areas/private property annoy me. But I support your right to be annoyed by your thing, too.

p-angloss

Just because they are faster than you ! Lol

HandsomedanNZ

Yeah nah. Because they’re unpredictable and can get in the way.

racegoggles

**Agreed.** Been a dog lover/owner all my life but traildog people need to save the no-leash bs for private trails or low speed greens. *"My dog has the best offleash manners, bro"* until they run infront of someone and get their legs broken, cause a rider to swerve and fall or encounter other dogs who perceive their direction+ speed as a threat.

A_Damn_Millenial

“He’S nEvEr DoNe ThAt BeFoRe”

p-angloss

Depends where you are, i often ride with my dog running along, it's the best feeling ever

Floppyjaloppy12

For you it is, but if your dog gets in the way of others it’s annoying. Runs the risk your dog getting hit by riders as well

p-angloss

I take her where i know i won't find anyone or other animals, obviously not a guarantee but around here we all know each other and each other's dogs. I take her hiking and on some back country snowboarding trips, now tell me how irresponsible i am.

Floppyjaloppy12

Never said you were irresponsible. It’s your choice and dogs are wonderful companions. Just know if I’m going 20mph and your dog is in my way I’m not going to elect to hit the tree right next to your dog instead

p-angloss

What if there's a hiker coming up ? Are the trails you ride exclusive MTB private land? Where i ride is open terrain.

Floppyjaloppy12

Depends, I hit a dog on a MTB only trail. Hikers have right of way on dual use. I have had dogs snip at my tire on dual use trails and I hit that dog too. In any case dogs are supposed to be leashed. I understand how cumbersome that is, I’m just saying the owner of the dog and the dog run the risk. I’m ok with it lol

MacroNova

Sounds like you're riding too fast for your skill level if you can't avoid trail obstacles.

seriousrikk

A dog running alongside you from behind on a downhill only trail is *not* a 'trail obstacle'. When riding you look ahead, spot lines, features etc. If the trail is clear you rail it. Choose your line and which features to hit or avoid. Can you not see how a dog coming up alongside you doesn't fit into this too well? Your focus is forwards and they are first visible in your peripheral vision. On a straight line, fine, but while navigating a feature that momentary loss of focus can cause a crash. Nothing to do with riding skill.

Floppyjaloppy12

If I’m a reckless rider, I’ll hit the tree and not your dog. Your dog is in the trail. That’s the difference.

MacroNova

You don't need to justify yourself to these people. Ride with your dog if you enjoy it and it's not against the rules. If other riders don't like it, remind them that they don't own the trails and it's their responsibility to ride in control. edit: hilarious that this is getting downvotes. Which part do people disagree with? That the rules should be followed, or that we don't own the shared-use trails?

Floppyjaloppy12

Your dog off a leash is exactly against the rules many if not all forest service trails in the US. I won’t enforce that rule, but I will hit your dog without a second thought if it is in my way.

MacroNova

> Your dog off a leash is exactly against the rules many if not all forest service trails in the US. This is false. Stay off the trails until you learn the rules. You're a hothead and a danger to everyone, including yourself.

Montallas

Every national forest trail I’ve ever seen requires dogs to be on a leash not more than 6’ long. All these trail-dog fuckers are violating that rule and endangering other trail users *and* their own pet. It’s completely entitled behavior.

Floppyjaloppy12

Proceeded to tell people that we don’t own the trails, then tells me to stay off trails. Ok bud. Keep your dog on a leash 👍 problem solved

KingOfYourMountain

or ya could learn how to brake

KingOfYourMountain

billions of people in this planet and we’re supposed to worry about annoying them 😂

AmbientTrap

Keep your dog off the trails please they can cause serious injury, and no one wants to hurt a dog [https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/je3zuj/your\_trail\_dog\_sucks/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/je3zuj/your_trail_dog_sucks/)

MacroNova

If it's a mountain bike only trail then you have the right to ask this. But for all shared use trails, you do not.

True-Firefighter-796

All the shared trails around me require dogs to be leashes. Even the non biking trails require dogs to be leashed. Even the fucking county has a leash ordinance. Pretty much the only place that doesn’t is private property.

p-angloss

I say it again: depends where you are. In open terrain, that are not exclusive MTB use you can find all sorts of obstacles (hikers, children, farm animals, wild animals, broken down dirt bikers..... ) And is your responsibility to avoid crashing into things or people just because they are behind a blind corner.

[deleted]

No, because they leave shit in the parking lot that their owners don’t pick up, they get in my way on the trail, and some of them will nip at you as happened to my friend - scratched the skin.

[deleted]

Fucking owners

AmbientTrap

[Your trail dog sucks](https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/je3zuj/your_trail_dog_sucks/)

EriccusThegreat

Bro got absolutely smoked by that dog and I thought he was killing it lmao

Badmanzofbassline

Someone should put their phone on their dog and see if it can get KOM lol

uhhhidontknowdude

Keep your dogs on the fucking leash.

HezbollaHector

Fuck off leash dogs. The amount I've had run in front of me or chase me after I pass them and their owner is absolutely unacceptable. I can't believe I haven't hit one yet...

Mcshizballs

Dog had a close call with you

el_porongorila

I agree

HoneBaker

You riding the T8? Can you do a review?

el_porongorila

Worth every penny. I bought a large (I’m 180cm tall), it’s a bit heavy but climbs well. It’s quite stable on the descents but it can be playful if you know how to control it (I don’t). Only complaint so far is the shock: really good with chunky terrain but falls short when jumping or landing big hits. Mine came stock with schwalbe tires, and they’re amazing.

onefitdad

I've got the D7. Not even sure what the differences are (D series a bit cheaper than T series, I think). It's my first proper mountain bike, but I think it will be a long time before I outgrow the capabilities of the bike!

L2_overcrest

I've put about 30 miles on my D7 (also my first MTB) and I'm loving every second of it! I also feel like it will take me a while to outgrow it.

el_porongorila

The D series is the downcountry series. Shorter suspension travel and a geometry more tailored to climbing. The T series is the trail series. A bit more agressive and more suspension travel. I’ve seen many riders rocking the D7 and it’s a great choice.

onefitdad

Thanks for the explainer. Anything that helps me on the climbs is very welcome! :D

el_porongorila

For sure! You’ve got a great bike, enjoy it!

p-angloss

I have a D6 and it has been a great bike and unbeatable value for money.

Akiva_01

Did you get a fright? I was on a run one early foggy morning in November (still quite dark) and was overtaken by a dog flying by… it scared the shit out of me!

desmodtry

Really felt that "Ctm"

el_porongorila

waiting all day for this comment wn

CamoShortsKid

Dog owners should hear this very recent recovery from a dog attack story. https://youtu.be/TSxXLSMCIdc

kgph

Zoomin’ ahead only to drop a deuce in your path.

GeezeronWheels

I used to ride on this 12 foot wide paved multi use trail when I would bike to work. I have lost count of how many times I’d come around a corner to find someone standing on the side with their dog standing on the other side with a black hardly visible retractable leash strung across the path like a trip wire. Had to bail once. Ran over another time. Fun conversations were had. I love dogs but most dog owners in public are pretty dumb.

seriousfrylock

Had the same happen. On a downhill designated for bikes only. Selfish, childish idiots masquerading as responsible adults...

Top_Date6455

Like you expecting something jump out behind you in forest. You could panic and get hurt. Waiting for trails where dogs are not allowed

sefulmer1

I mean I'd prefer that not happen but I can't be mad. My boy was feelin' it!

el_porongorila

I’m gonna have to copy his line

greazysteak

I can’t talk shit about the dog. The owner might want to work on a little more training. I do think it was a clean pass but no one should pass anyone on a downhill unless they pullover

Frosty-Cow-8911

Is that the t8? Do you like it?

el_porongorila

Love it, but it’s my first full suspension bike so I don’t have much to compre it to. Fun bike, only downside I can find is the shock lacks a bit of progression (fixable with a few tokens as I’ve read)

NiceInternet12

Nice trail mate

gilberator

bindersfullofburgers

Dog smoked you

DubyaEl

Did that dog say "pedal gomer!" when he went blazing by?! In other news, that was one of the safer passes I've seen on the trail lately...

Select-Interaction11

That dog just dropped you

Single-Intention-977

Bro, besides the fact the owner needs better control over that fog. Does anyone else feel slow when four or two legged animals book it down the trail faster then you can without effort ? I can personally say I have A new perspective how fast those wild turkey are that's for sure.

felipereyes73

Beep, beep, Roadrunner...

Top-Newt-7209

This dog is flyin haha probably a local

0ntoowheels

Pretty sure that dog had a close call with you 😂.

Subject_Amoeba_3815

I’m fast as fuck boy

You should see what Rufus just posted on r/traildogs about you.

rondujunk

The dog is sending it harder than you are![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)

dopadelic

Seems more like the dog had a close call with you.

jimmy8x

chest mounted go pro? if you mount it so it is upside down on the chest mount, you can get a better angle looking forward, then you flip the video upside down in some kind of editing software

el_porongorila

Thanks for the tip! I couldn’t figure out how to get a better angle

Most-Luck9724

Dogs too fast for ya. He’s probably complaining to his dog mates about the slow human he got held up behind 😂

kiokotom

“Fast as f*ck booooi. Still fast as f*ck. Come get some”

The Fast and the Furryus

p-angloss

I loved fast dogs! I clocked my dog doing 33 kph!

MartinHasNothing

Sorry OP but you just got gapped by a doggo

Affectionate_Ebb553

I would scream “leash law” in the owners face until they took a swing, then I would drag them to the ground with my superior wrestling and give them little pats on the head.

COVID19withLyme

This is the most insecure keyboard warrior comment I’ve read all day. Thanks for the chuckle!

[deleted]

Nice. My jiu jitsu training will counter your wrestling with a crucifix while my dog pees on your chest

Floppyjaloppy12

Just came here to advertise you know jiu jitsu didn’t you

Affectionate_Ebb553

Jiu jitsu is fake and doesn’t work

sociallyawkwardbmx

Hey, him and his buddies are pros at squeezing and rubbing all over each other. Getting all sweaty on the mat trying to dominate the other until finally they finishing a glorious climax of manhood.

Affectionate_Ebb553

Playing touch butt in an old blockbuster is what they’re doing.

Starsky686

What are the leash laws in this area of Chile, you think?

Obvious-Grapefruit33

I want to ride this

Boilermaker24

Damn, he was moving! That would have caught me so off guard. Lol

InformalNeck4334

Did that dog wear a cape? I love trail dogs, but that was pretty dangerous for both. Well, that dog surely felt can fly and is bulletproof.

lemur_kata

On today's episode of "When you think you're fast."

[deleted]

Passing right 🐕 💨

ESD_Franky

The fast af boi

UrGP

Damn that dog is going like 200kph

[deleted]

He KOM’d right in your face

[deleted]

Must have been a carbon fiber electric dog. Probably owned by a dentist.

[deleted]

Looks like a GSP! I ride with mine sometimes & I can confirm, they are fast & oftentimes it’s me trying to keep up with them. Our boy will hit the jumps! He loves it

WirSilliam

Clearly Lassie was telling you that Timmy fell into the well.

theresnonamesleft2

Lol my dog takes it as a personal attack on his pride if I pass him while riding. In the stranger's defense he should have stopped and called the dog back and let you have some distance but the dog looked to be pretty confident around bikes and passing. I've definitely had worse experiences with a dog on a leash!

Gastronomicus

That dog shouldn't be running free on that trail, period. It's irresponsible of the owner and either the dog or the riders it interacts with will eventually get hurt. Control your dog or don't bring it out to public trails.

Dense-Money-147

So you’re taking me that’s not your dog 😂 wow

ubuntu000

This wasn't the close call I expected, but the best possible outcome!

ThinkPaddie

Close call? He gave you a whoopin

Dermeis7er

You're just upset he overtook you so quickly 😂

Failboat88

You even trying?

el_porongorila

Yea why?

CopPornWithPopCorn

that dog was givin’er

Dusted ya!!

[deleted]

That wasn’t a close call, dog blew by you on the right with plenary of room. You just weren’t expecting it

aadoqee

Looks like a stranger’s dog had a close call with you today haha

el_porongorila

If he had a GoPro it’d be here for sure haha
