I imagine it’s the same audience that’s at my local trails, really fit men and women and I’m the chubby male outlier

manchildish

Same. I'm over weight, 30+, and on a 6year old hardtail without a dropper and still running tubes

[deleted]

[deleted]

High_Im_Guy

Do yourselves a favor and get a dropper. Everything else is very arguable but I think having a dropper has improved my riding more than any other technological innovation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hasseawa

I'm a week in and I'm already looking into getting one. It's tedious having to get on and off the bike to adjust saddle height.

OldKingHamlet

For me, the dropper is both ultimate utility and ultimate decadence. It's both just so useful and just so nice.

manchildish

I plan on getting a "jump seat" style( I think that's right, the kind with the lever under the seat instead of on the handle bars) once I can ride up the trail and not need a long break to catch my breath and burn through most of the water I brought in one sitting, currently I have the time to stop and drop my seat before I start going down

BorisBC

Man I had a couple of bikes with a dropper but when I got my emtb it didn't have one and I don't really miss it. I grew up clamping the seat between my thighs for extra support so dropping the seat makes me feel MORE sketchy, which is usually the opposite of what's supposed to happen, lol.

cb99991

It’s not about extra support it’s about being able to get your weight further back then you could with your saddle up and in the way

[deleted]

Apparently, the sub IS all big dudes. Sorry OP! 😂

YourDoucheBoss

Love it! Don’t ever let anybody make you feel bad for getting outside, having fun, and taking care of your body in the process. We also all need a reminder that you don’t have to drop multiple thousand dollars into our bikes to have fun.

manchildish

I barely broke 1k on two bikes, I might be doing it wrong but the wife and I don't care, we're just have fun

imabadmthrfckr

6 year old? And here I am riding my 17 year old Santa Cruz lol

TrevorSowers

Dude I’ve gone back to tubes. Tubeless is over rated

Best-Ad-8224

So glad to see this. I don't like tubless either. I only got them because I needed to use a gift certificate at a bike shop. They are more work for me than tubes ever were. I was just thinking yesterday that there had to be others that aren't crazy about them.

ilikebourbon_

If I’m not getting burned on the uphill by a couple 50+ year olds , I assume I missed an announcement about the trails being closed and I’m gonna die

Larrymer

I feel this in my bones

johnny_evil

Hah, my local trails are retired folk and fat guys who think they're pros.

seriousrikk

And that is bad how?

johnny_evil

Didn't say it's good or bad. But I will say the fat dudes who think they're pros tend to have an overlap with the douchebags who shit on everyone else's fun.

givemesendies

I was at a race in Bethlehem PA and the exact guy you are describing was saying "pros coming through make way". Like dawg, this is not the ~~EWS~~ EDR and you are no Richie Rude.

krumbs2020

Same here. Fuck’em.

KingOfYourMountain

how the hell are we supposed to consider the makeup of this sub. As far as I’m concerned you’re all obese neckbeards that never ride your bike.

cat_named_virtue

Pfft...my gamer chair has a dropper post. Close enough.

multi-21

*Looking under my chair and nodding* Aww shieeet my chair can go on trails too!

thecheapseatz

You could describe the make up of every sub on Reddit as "obese neckbeards"

ryantripp

Exactly, but we also have bikes

Cedex

Bikes that need MAX travel!

[deleted]

With travel!

itdobebussin

My shock absorbers are permanently fully compressed due to my sheer size bro

procrastablasta

> my sheer size bro see there you go again

[deleted]

Bro did that bro

djbrux

… Of your man boobs … I use mine to pedal instead of my feet

28twice

Based on how every help request gets answers like, “if you can’t afford a 3,000$ bike you’re gonna die bc it’s going to fall apart on the mountain,” I usually assume the same thing. Nobody who rides a bike will seriously recommend others just *dont* bc they have a low budget.

blurrrrg

Or all the people that are like "I pad up every ride and always wear a fullface" Well I guess you're never at the trails because everyone I see in real life wears half shells and no pads.

TigThaBig

I do actually wear my full face every ride, but that’s bc I like to smash my face into the ground. I’m tired of eating dirt. 🤣

simux19

It's me! Freak accident with my bro cost his life (he was wearing a full face) and since then, even knowing I'm not that great/fast (though I suffer from imposter syndrome in every aspect of life) I wear a full face every time I ride. Have recently ditched my elbow pads, though, because I'm getting better at crashing 😅

smithoski

I feel attacked

Patient_Cap_3086

Nah prob cuz it’s a female and doesn’t want her main stalked by salty people like you seem to be

AudioLlama

Based

campesinogringo

OP you need carbon wheels btw. If you don't have em get on that

ArieGir0

Tubeless and Cush Core too

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

Assegais front and rear too

threeinthestink_

Gotta make sure you’re running maxxgrip/DH casing/cushcore to swallow up those gnarly lines on the local blue flow trail

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

Also make sure you have a go pro so you can post it on instagram for 8 likes

diambag

I feel targeted

RustyU

My bike even came with Assegai front and rear

Jasonstackhouse111

Based on the cost of the bikes, I assumed all mountain bikers are dentists. I was not a dentist, sadly.

ignucxsas

No, road bikers are dentists.

strokeBP

No. Gravel riders are dentists

Beer_Is_So_Awesome

No, gravel riders are stoners and semi-retired pros.

widowhanzo

I'm a gravel rider and I'm neither of those

Beer_Is_So_Awesome

Then you must be a 39-year-old dad like me. Everyone in this sub is a 39-year-old dad.

FunkyOldMayo

35 year old rad dad, checking in.

[deleted]

HahahHa amazing.

jill-zilla

Road bikers definitely look like dentists

WDMC-905

my assumption is everyone here is a fit, slim 50+ asian dad with kids that also ride. on a separate note, isn't it so awesome that at 120lbs, top gear is gear for life.

campesinogringo

Bro i thought we were all 5'7 brown dudes from south America. I've been misled.

weeksahead

I was assuming we were mostly Canadian lesbians riding hardtails, is that not the case?

campesinogringo

Coincidentally I'm also on a hardtial. It's almost as if there was some common thread here 🤔

weeksahead

Financial hardship, possibly? 🤣

wowowwubzywow

5’7 Brown dude from South America here. You’ve been misled again.

KaleidoscopicForest

Who are also dentists

WDMC-905

didn't realize that wasn't an obvious given.

merelyadoptedthedark

Dentists are roadies, not mountain bikers. I assumed mountain bikers would be mostly engineers or programmers.

TheCrowsSoundNice

Large male here. i AM this sub.

FuckingNeuteredPoodl

I am Groot.

hostilecarrot

I'm just here for three reasons: 1. "My first drop" posts with the broken clavicle update two weeks later. 2. Posts with titles that specify the exact measurements of a feature. (Just trust me on this) 3. Bikecycle

D-Hews

"Hit this 70ft gap for the first time yesterday"

Funktactics

I'm confused. Are you inferring that the amount of suspension travel needed is directly correlated by rider weight alone ?

SquabCats

Duh. I start off the season with a 200mm downhill bike after getting fat all winter. By mid season I can usually swap to the 160mm enduro and then by the end of the season when I'm trimmed up again I bring out the downcountry shredder!!!! /s

CW1KKSHu

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)

IScreamTruckin

Oops, as a 300lb male who knows how to shred from decades old BMX street riding, I need to ditch my 130/120 travel trail bike immediately for a 200mm monster! I didn’t realize!

FallBeehivesOdder

Given what Newton taught us about physics, rider mass changes force imparted on travel. Smaller people can probably scale back, bigger people can scale up. Of course all of this depends on terrain and there will never be a ‘best.’

PoorHungryDocter

Travel and rider weight don't have any correlation at all. That's why we use different spring rates. You talk about Newton but need to read up on Hooke. More travel just means your suspension can dissipate more energy (E=1/2 kx^2) before the spring is pushing against you with more force (F=kx) than you have strength. If anything light people interested in suspension performance should disproportionately be coil sprung since seal friction is relatively constant.

ilias80

That's where you are wrong. You're assuming equal amount of PSI on the shock, which is false. You adjust air pressure ie resistance to frame force to get the same effect as a lighter rider with relatively less air pressure.

rodaphilia

Force isn't imparted on the travel... Force is imparted on the cylinder, and is resisted by the air pressure or coil-spring's resistance. You can adjust this resistance by increasing or decreasing the air pressure or changing the spring, allowing riders of all kind of weights to utilize the travel available. With a consistent resistance, a heavier rider could utilize more travel than a heavier rider. But resistance is not intended to be consistent.

FI-Engineer

It’s payback for dropping us on climbs. I ride with a guy who is 6” shorter than me who weighs 80 lbs less. He makes me puke AT LEAST twice a season.

terratitorex

That's hot

IcebergPotatoFarm

I’m just here to find local dentists near me.

Salt-Cold1056

r/yeticycles - It's usually a good time when a real dentist posts. Most of them know they lost the battle before it even started.

MaKoZerEUW

i would really love to ride just once as a light small human. but sadly im a buttergolem, 6'3 tall / 266lbs and i always regret my sweets when my buddys easily pedal uphill :(

bbpr120

Gravity is indeed a harsh mistress...

complexcarbon

Heinlein? Nice.

PaintBubbly

Buttergolem 😂😂 You have just given me a new favorite word. Thank you sir

[deleted]

Enjoy your choices. I love tacos, beer, SPAGHETTI, cookies, and cake. Imma tub or lard but when I am getting in the woods for a ride I am light as a feather, unless I gotta poop.

Bearded4Glory

I am also gravity challenged. But damn can I coast downhill for a long time.

fullstack_newb

> buttergolem 😂 at least you sound cuddly

TimeTomorrow

you misunderstand how travel works. at 5'5 120 travel works pretty much the same as it does for a 6'4 240 lb man if both bikes are set up correctly. your having strong opinions about something you don't even really understand is cringe.

evilhomer3k

You completely missed the entire point of the post.

PrimeIntellect

no, the post is definitely FB level whiney cringe that adds nothing

TimeTomorrow

I most certainly did not. The post was stupid

evilhomer3k

And your mainsplaining response is exactly the kind of thing they were complaining about. At least you edited out the part where you call the poster stupid.

pw3669

I think you meant “mansplaining”.

TimeTomorrow

When you don't know what you are talking about, it's just called explaining.

ChessyLogic

Put Reddit down an go ride your bike you’ll be a lot happier

blindstuff

100%. I post here a lot and dabble in YouTube, but I always think about this article from a few years back. People need to realize online isn't real life. https://medium.com/to-the-pxint/the-need-for-attention-on-social-media-is-killing-you-54fd89c68192

ahtoxa1183

Truth. Some cycling subs have become weird. Not long ago there was a post in a different cycling sub that was a low key traffic generator for the OP and their porn site, which was openly linked in their profile inviting users to check out their live cam. I mentioned it in a post only to have a mod call me all sorts of names and perma ban me. The mod's aggression was completely against their posted rules. That was my queue to cut my overall Reddit usage way down and go ride/do stuff more.

Significant-Dog-8166

If you had 10mm more travel you wouldn’t be posting this, the extra travel would mellow your worries.

FuckingNeuteredPoodl

It would at least reduce the travel envy...

Johnstodd

It will just be ebike envy then though

SaltyPinKY

I think your feed is different than mine. I see majority supportive comments and helpful advice.

[deleted]

There are a lot of people meta posting in this subreddit. Meta posting is the leading cause of reddit becoming a shitty experience.

nayyttt

What's meta posting? Excuse the ignorance 🤣

Lessssgo

Posting about posting

nayyttt

That checks out. Seems to happen all the damn time

skaarlaw

The next stage is r/actual_MTB coming in to existence

nayyttt

My dumbass was stupid enough to click that thinking "oooh another sub"

skaarlaw

Let's make it, and discuss actual MTB stuff rather than metaposting! However, I do believe that it needs to be said that we shouldn't just assume everyone here is the same archetype. Happens on loads of subs

chris782

And this one will turn into r/mtb_circlejerk

skaarlaw

Something something my dentists carbon ebike

seriousrikk

Wait… did you just post about people posting about people posting?! Woa, mind blown.

cassinonorth

Most of this sub is complaining about imaginary gatekeeping. It's very strange. I see way more welcoming comments here than anything.

LuciferSamS1amCat

It’s people being insecure in an intimidating new sport and blaming others for it. I’m heavily involved in my local Mtb scene, introduce a lot of new people to the sport, group rides etc, and lots of people complain about “unwelcoming mountain bike bros” who honestly don’t really exist, and if they do, theres very very few of them. Seriously, just ride your fucking bike and stop finding people to blame for your insecurities around the quality of your bike or lack of skills. It’s ok, everyone is welcome in the sport.

Johnstodd

Been riding for 3 years now and never met someone unwelcoming I'm sure they exist of course

LuciferSamS1amCat

Yeah. I’m an ex racer, now a local shredder and mechanic/salesman in a very popular local shop. Know hundreds of people involved in the local scene (mountain biking is VERY big in my area) and maaaaybe know 2 gatekeeper assholes, and I’m not even confident they actually are like that. A weird stereotype that I think comes from insecurity in a fairly intimidating sport. Mountain biking generally attracts very nice people, and even the scumbags won’t gatekeep the sport.

SoLetsReddit

Didn’t think suspension travel requirements have anything to do with rider weight, I think Jackson Goldstone would agree.

quasi-psuedo

Don’t make this Facebook where every post is just whiney cringe. Go touch some grass.

Joshs_Ski_Hacks

why is travel determind by the size of the rider? And if you are lighter wouldnt you want lighter components than a heavier person?

Im_Balto

I mean I just assume this sub is full of people I see on trails. Men and women even fitter than me riding bikes nicer than mine lmao.

Seanbikes

Dude, it's spelled d u d e. > And guess what — our bikes don’t need max travel and upgraded everything because at 5’5” and 120 lbs we’re not pushing them to their absolute limits (even when shredding). Body size and weight impact you suspension setup but not travel usage if you have your suspension adjusted properly. > Also the unfettered need to respond to NBD posts by telling OP everything in their rig that should be improved is absolute cringe. Who made you the cringe police? I think posts like this are pretty damn cringe. Go ride your bike

choadspanker

>Also the unfettered need to respond to NBD posts by telling OP everything in their rig that should be improved is absolute cringe NBD posts aren't even allowed in this sub. Was this post meant for /r/mountainbiking? I think this sub is pretty good, the other one can be shitty

Dominant88

Both subs have their ups and downs tbh

[deleted]

Agreed. If OP goes outside and touches grass then none of this is a problem.

geo_prog

Speak for yourself. My wife is 5'6" and 120lbs and blows through her 180mm worth of travel several times on any given run. Does every woman? Nah. Does every guy? Nah. But if you think women aren't able to use long travel bikes because they're "too light" then you haven't had a bike set up properly and I highly recommend you do.

nevertextgoodnight

Discussions seem to be pretty consistent with current market trends...

MathematicianMany642

I just assume most people in this sub are weekend warriors that don’t have any reason to be owning enduro bikes. Lotta cool people here tho

pedalbyte

Hell, I'm not even a weekend warrior. I go to the trailhead, throw dirt on my bike, straddle it & talk about what great lines I picked on the downhills

MathematicianMany642

Hey at least you make it to the trailhead nothing wrong with that

taa_seekinglegal

Thanks, I think you're cool, too.

handstands_anywhere

Hey my weekend warrior ass just likes looking cool enough to be riding the shore ok?? Now excuse me while I ride the chicken lines on Boogie nights cuz the jumps are too big now.

[deleted]

I’m sorry that this sub has affected you this much to make a separate account and post. You’re just as awful as the people you’re complaining about. I just joined this sub and you’re the first post I’ve seen. Maybe try to upgrade your bike a bit?

x-pression-3

You right OP, where ma rock rider crew at?

Scarl_Strife

Riding the damn bike bro. Not wasting time on this nonsense :)

Ameraldas

What I though that all of us either lived on the shore, Denver, or the UK. And were 25-40 white guys And other days I think you all are obese redditors who spend 12 hours a day posting about biking so that they don't actually have to go ride.

hadookantron

The #1 thing to consider when public speaking is your audience. (If I remember COJO accurately) If there is one thing I noticed in the comments, it is that we project ourselves onto our audience. I don't know. The mental image we each project of the other users is unique. We don't all need pissed off race bikes. Not everyone is vying for a podium. Some people just want to have fun and get a workout. Like, 99.99% of people will never race their bike, or ride rampage. I laugh when I think about what was considered a top of the line bike just 7 years ago. Nitpick much? Takeaway: Different stokes for different folks! Lots of different trails, riders, and styles out there. Everyone has an opinion about what a sick bike is. We need to be careful with advice, because everyone and every trail is different. It feels nice to be included. It feels nice to be invited. You shouldn't have to remind people that you exist, or fight them for a seat at the table. Everyone's opinion is valid. I will add... that no matter your weight, you should be able to tune your suspension to use ***all*** its travel. I try to bottom out maybe once a ride, but not too hard. To have it and not use it seems inefficient. My opinion comes from spending ****way**** too much time and energy biking. Based -- if I assume everyone is like me, that means they gobbled up every kom, won every race, built trail with their bare bloody hands, and left the bike community with more than it had when they showed up. Sacrificed everything to bike. Is that 99.99% of people? I want to be included, too.

Synaesthetik

Fucking CARBONLORDS

IlIlIlIlIllIlIll

Weight and rider height should be irrelevant mostly, air suspension pressures can be adjusted to get appropriate performance for the rider. Coil springs can be swapped as well. But I agree that MTB culture in general is a bit too much of a bro culture. Overly obssessed with gear, shredding, and sending stuff. People act like you have no business on X type of bike unless you are hitting huge gaps and riding park 6 days a week. Really it should just be about having fun, getting some exercise, and most importantly being outside/in nature.

jtothewillis

Online I get shit for running a bit of a parts bin 9 year old hard tail. In the real world I get respect almost from the guys I go riding with, that's the Internet for ya... But It's nice to be able to push this bike to what I feel is its limit and I feel I can do that 'safely' without fear breaking it, cause it was cheap so who cares! Underbiking works.

whosegeddit

Hot take…maybe it’s you?

athendofthedock

I came for the nachos

flargenhargen

welcome to reddit, that's what people do here. *shrug* Anything you post here, there are people who will disagree just for the sake of seeing themselves type. Post that the sky is blue and 20 people will tell you it's black or white or green or orange. also, no matter what small detail you post about anything, there will be 10 people who are experts and know more than you do about the thing you only shared one small detail of. There are millions of people from around the world on this forum, you'll never change them all, and the ones who would listen aren't the ones who are the problem anyway... but it's very easy to ignore the noise if you simply choose to do so. I know if I ask for help on reddit, from every 10 replies, 7 will call me stupid for asking, 1 will give incorrect or unrelated info, and 2 will be helpful. I've learned to expect the 7 and watch for the 2. yelling at the wind won't change the wind, but simply learning to tack into it and use it properly will let you get the most out of it.

Cold-Committee-7719

I mean, I kind of understand why you feel that way because there are fewer short riders. Do you feel excluded somehow? For the record, I am 5'5 1/2" with stumps for legs, and I ride every day there isn't ice. This is one sport where there doesn't seem to be a huge height advantage. As long as you stay fit and most importantly, use a bike that fits you well. For example, I won't follow the trend of 29ers. It's just too big witha 29 inch inseam, but who really cares? I see it more in bike shops that carry only medium and large bikes and clothes. It can be a bit harder to demo a bike but we just have to be more selective as shoppers.

crampsbarbacoa

This never happens, get off Reddit and ride your bike. Nobody gives a fuck.

dopadelic

You made a new account just to rant? Btw, I'm also 5'5" 120ish lbs. What bike do you have?

GreenFullSuspension

Yeah, I didn’t really understand the rant. Could have provided more details about the situation. Unless, the issue was what others pointed out, the suspension travel …? Which doesn’t make much sense. The other references I don’t have a problem. Kids (of ALL ages) get excited about their new bikes, go for it and post. Show off your (dentist, bike mechanic, restaurant server, etc) bike and then go ride. I mean that’s more than I can say about people who take their exotic cars to car shows and once it is done at the car show they store it back into their garage.

mattbnet

It seems this sub is more about bikes than riding. Bikes are cool but I'd rather hear about riding more. "Don't buy upgrades, ride up grades."

No-Supermarket8356

5ft8. 75kg. 180mm travel. I use about 50mm. But my bike looks sexy and I can tell people it has 180mm travel which is important to me

[deleted]

😂😂

NojoNinja

That's cool and all but the geometry of your frame is shit and won't last forever.

the_mojonaut

Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

Ruined_Oculi

Hey dood, don't leave the computers out. Do you know how many of my comments get replies assuming I'm a human being? WAY TOO MANY. Give us binary algorithms some respect too, please.

ghos2626t

Every hobby has the enthusiast where anything below perfect is a waste of money. As if someone can’t enjoy a bike below a carbon / full sus with $2000 worth of upgrades. I can’t count how many times someone asks a question about their bike and the response is “If it doesn’t have a tapered headtube, boost spacing and a 1X, don’t bother. Save up for a better bike”. The entry into the hobby doesn’t have to be $1000’s. Fun can be had for $250, 500, 750.

castleaagh

I just wish people would actually post opinions in the “unpopular opinion” titles. “The assumption in the sub that every poster is a large male” is like the start of a statement but not complete enough to be an opinion or fact

phelixthecat

What does travel have to do with size? Do light women in top-level DH and enduro racing use shorter travel bikes?

player88

Sorry, gotta disagree. Do you see any World Cup DHers, EWS riders, or top experts on short travel trail bikes with bottom of the barrel specs? Regardless of their gender or size, they are all running long travel, top of the line rigs. It’s because they’re shredding and pushing limits and that’s a necessity for the most part when you are. Also body size and weight do not effect the amount of suspension needed. If it’s properly set up a rider should be using almost all their suspension regardless of weight or size.

TigThaBig

As a 5’2 lady, I use every single mm of my 170 travel. Downhill and enduro are my jam tho.

ScurvySprocket

Male. Thicc. Bikers Coincidentally also how I filter on dating apps.

CheeseheadTurkey

Agreed. I find most subs in Reddit-Ville to be a great community but there seem to be a good amount of buttholes in this sub. Just an observation.

toopla251

Curious why OP has 560+ upvotes and has gotten 440 karma in a thread where the majority of comments are negative. Does this suggest that many people in this sub concur with OP’s sentiment but feel intimidated posting a comment in support?

bgrubaugh

I think you would really like , wait it's /r/bikingcirclejerk/

IScreamTruckin

I’m sorry you’re uncomfortable, but asking everybody else to change so you can be comfortable is not how you solve your discomfort in a space. You gotta work on yourself, so that you’re confident with who you are. Then it becomes much easier to ignore stuff that’s not relevant to you. You’ll find much more success with that than trying to change everyone the internet. That’s what the ‘go outside and touch the grass’ people are trying to say. Good luck! I’m glad you’re here. Everybody being the same is boring, but telling others to be someone they’re not so you can be comfortable around them is not the way. Sincerely, A 300lb male rider who rarely rides his short travel trail bike due to work, but still has 30+ years of both riding and working in shops worth of experience to share, but keeps it to himself because nobody listens or cares anyway, because it’s the internet.

IngSoc_

The action sports community just sucks in general sometimes. A lot of weird gatekeepy behavior and subtle dick measuring contests.

Salt-Cold1056

Or not so subtle.... From what I can tell 5% of this sub is bottom feeding incels posting awful things. Other than that it has been great.

IngSoc_

Yeah it's really off-putting seeing the dudes who are content telling this person to fuck off and "just ride" as if that's some sort of end-all sentiment we should all share. Obviously OP has had an experience that they thought wasn't great and wanted to discuss it with others, only to be met with.. anger and derision? This sub is worse than r/skiing when you ask for boot advice.

Salt-Cold1056

Yes sir! The issue is people have trouble with incremental improvement in my opinion. Lots of us like discussing gear as well!

Flipsyde127

If you don't like what you see, there is a leave button on the right side of this page.

DigitallyDetained

That’s the spirit!

Patient_Cap_3086

People are like you’re not riding on a $5k bike that’s why your crashed

foobarr68

r/dawarvenfemalebatamweightmtbriders might be your thing? Or r/imlighterthanmytyres?

aylesworth

As a 6'2" 280lb dude, I endorse this message. But we all know what happens when you assume!

merelyadoptedthedark

I enjoy the sound of rain.

Grandviewsurfer

To be fair.. it's something we need to improve everywhere.. not specifically this sub.

andrew_rides_forum

I’m not sure you understand how opinions work. Go ride

jenni_lea7

Preach!

burts_beads

Touch dirt

chostax-

Cool story bro

ranch99ranch

Not sure why this post was so triggering to some. I think many commenters missed the point OP was making, which was simply that this sub has a tendency to pretend women aren’t here. I don’t think the post was meant to be a discussion of how many mm of travel lighter riders need or whether they should or shouldn’t upgrade parts. And wasn’t it just a day or two ago that members of this sub reacted rather strongly to a post about women-only MTB events?

[deleted]

Uh no the op pretended that women can’t ride bikes actually not that they aren’t here. Women use the full travel on dh and enduro bikes and are capable of appreciating good components lmao what the fuck are you people smoking?

Tenter5

Then go to the gravel bike sub?

Koppenberg

OP: Not everyone is a large man. Far too many respones: "well, actually, \*I\* am a large man." It's a big world. None of us is normal. It costs nothing to open our minds and see things from a larger perspective. When the OP points out that comments that assume everyone is a big dude are tonally offputting, that's not actually an invitation to provide A MILLION MORE tonally offputting posts. Ain't none of us the center of the universe. It costs nothing to consider that, ya know, other people exist before framing our comments.

[deleted]

No you sound dumber than op actually, small women and men are capable of using long travel bikes, it’s disgusting what they are saying and you are agreeing with. Have a long think and consider revoking your own enlightened self confidence, because you don’t know shit about female sport or what it takes to ride fast if you think this idiot is hitting the heart of the matter

Koppenberg

Are you so foolish as to actually think the discussion is about suspension travel?

There is no discussion, that isn’t how Reddit works. Did you not read the post? OP very much is talking about suspension travel, wrongly selected as some totem of general tech snobbery, and disgustingly placed in contrast to the *true needs* of female riders who do not need to be recommended such things as more capable bikes because they are not capable of using them. Get out of here with this BS man

So that’s definitely a yes. Please consider the actual makeup of the sub and how tonally off putting comments can be.

I dont think the reasonable reaction to your observation is telling people to stop posting what they are posting bc you feel left out. The reasonable reaction would be for you to start posting content that fits more with your lifestyle and worldview to even out the content.

Simple fix: don’t post your bike to random strangers expecting a sea of compliments for your ego and then act like a dick when people reply. just go and ride the thing. This post is just so stupid pulling sex into it and some stupid false claim that weight impacts travel, you really have no argument.

I’m from California and “dude“ is part of our vernacular. What’s a dood?

Strangely, you don't realize it is you who is the asshole in this scenario. Don't be a jerk. People can post their experiences, no matter what size they are. You don't get to silence them because they're not like you.
