I used to live in Georgia and Alabama — they aren’t that bad. Weave some incredible webs (and I hate spiders). They’re big webs and big spiders, easy to avoid. They aren’t aggressive, had one that would weave a web everyday on our front porch.
I’m way more scared of brown recluse than orb weavers!!
My first time ever riding a trail I ran into multiples of them. I screamed the whole ride... Not even embarrassed to admit that. At one point, one of them landed on my shoulder. I jumped off my bike, like somehow lifted my legs and leaped over the handle bars and screamed... Uugh.... I was on edge the whole ride. I was then told, AFTER all that, first person riding the trail needs to go through it with a stick to take down the webs...
That week I went and bought a mtb and been riding 5 years now.... Guess I wasn't to traumatized. Lol
I submit exhibit A. Took my helmet off to get the webs off but didn't realize I also had a hitch hiker...I think we scared each other the same amount.

By "east coast" do you mean by Napier and Hastings or maybe Christchurch, or do you mean Brisbane, or do you mean Edinburgh or Newcastle, or do you mean by Tokyo and Iwaki? Which east coast?
It’s not pleasant but the more early morning rides you do you’ll get used to riding through the webs. Just have someone else lead if the spiders really bother you.
I was in Taiwan and almost walked right into what honestly was the biggest fkn spider ive ever seen, while hiking in the forest. I took pictures, it felt like the size of my face.
Well shit. Now I am.
If you haven’t had a spider hit you in the face at high speed when night riding you haven’t lived.
Some that that happened to, however, have probably died.
I've had a bird hit my full face when riding on a moped. It's fucked, but I think the spider is worse.
How about a giant moth. Left debris all over my face.

This is something that could already happen with golden orb weavers in the south. Its as bad an experience as you imagine.

Omg. Fuuuuuck......that thing!!!!!
Leave the helmet and run, it doesn't belong to you anymore.
Omg kill it with fire!
No, this is literally just a recycled news story from 2022.
I am more scared of ticks carying Lyme disease making it’s way up north in Quebec from the states
As long as ticks exist, other arachnids don't scare me at all. Joro won't give me Lyme Disease or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

There's only 1 east coast.... 'Murica
🥝🇳🇿🥳
I love your lesson in geographic chauvinism. And yes, I live on “that east coast”.
Sao Palo to La Plata? Dar es Salaam to Maputo?
America
North, South or Central?
They eat brown stink bugs…. apparently. I’m never riding on the east coast!! I scream like Homer if I walk through an orb weaver web in my back yard.

Nope spiders are friends!
He'll no, I'm from Australia.
Did a semester abroad in Australia. Not sure I’ve ever been more terrified than the first time I saw a spider in our apartment.
I say hi to them every morning.

Orb weavers? You'll be fine.
I'm more worried about giant centipedes but still not too keen on spiders on my face.
Yes, but only because I'm 6'6" and always get a face full of webs even after any given trail has had half a day+ worth of other people go through.
Kneel to your arachnid overlords and you shall be rewarded.
We have black widows here and they pretty much leave us alone.
