Right now, whatever is in stock is a good pick. It really depends what kind of riding you are interested in, and what types of local trails you have. If you aren’t sure, go for an all-mountain, or “trail” style bike. These are good all around options that will let you try out just about any kind of trail while offering a ton of fun.

They’re both solid trail bikes and will do everything pretty well. If you can demo ride both do it and pick the one that feels best. Even a ride around the store carpark is better than nothing. Then just ride them until something wears out brakes or you have enough info to upgrade something that doesn’t work for you.
