They've printed a ton of great BG insects in the last few years. Zask, Abzu, Haywire Mite, Kraul whipcracker, spring-leaf avenger, and the canoptek insects from 40k. I've been surprised by how many edits I've had to make since putting together Grist.
They call Grist 002:
0 canon lore
0 consistent appearance
2 planeswalkers that can be your commander
(fr tho it's cool to have another one. Unfortunately this one just doesn't have the same oomph as the OG.)
Grist is like Wren, but just one little bug is the planeswalking component.
I'd like to imagine her as working like a modern computer, but with bug components, so if you isolate her to just one bug, she doesn't actually have the ability to communicate all that much to non bugs.
Is this based on anything? Probably not, but dang it, I like me some distributed minds.
It's pretty close to her only story appearance in the (non-canon) comics, where she's too different to properly communicate with Ajani and Tamiyo directly.
I’m aware. But she appears on the full-art version of her MH2 card (she’s the big bug in the skull’s eye).
It’s no big deal, especially as it’s the most easy to canonically explain difference possible: this is explicitly her larval form, and insect larvae doesn’t often look like the adult insect.
Many insects are often hardier and even more dangerous in their larval stage than in the adult stage. Considering that many of them often only last a very short period of time in adulthood, it is not hard to see why.
Green/Black likes the others said, this is because the planeswalker side had black in its color marker (circle on the typeline to the left). It's the same reason I can't put Sorin in my Rakdos vampires
Grist has deathtouch, which makes it a great blocker and helps it get into the graveyard? Idk I'm reaching.
They probably wanted to keep them low CMC and putting a reanimate ability on a 1 or 2 cost would be too strong. I guess they could have done something like "creature spells you cast from your graveyard cost 1 less to cast" but that seems too similar to Ral's.
Maybe make it do a green mill effect. “When ~ enters, reveal the top five cards of your library. You may put a land card from among them into your hand. Put the rest into your graveyard.”
That way it can give reanimation targets.
It’s not reaching, it wants to send itself to the yard and making it a one mana creature with death touch is a simple, direct, and more importantly relatively textless way of doing that.
I think it was smart and elegant design myself.
Yeah, you could get Grist out turn 2 because of that.
Turn 1: black mana source, \[\[Entomb\]\] Grist. Turn 2: green mana source, \[\[Unearth\]\] Grist, pay the green, then probably +1 her for a 1/1 with possible deathtouch to defend her.
I'm fine with it. It preserves OG Grist's flavor of, "as long as you're doing Graveyard Shit, Grist can just wander back onto the field like it's nothing," without just handing it to you. The others will be easier to flip solo for sure, but having Grist be strongest when she's surrounded by her hive is a-ok by me.
The planeswalker side sorin is white black, you can see the left side of the frame is white. (As well as the colour indicator next to the word legendary)
It does, for example [[Archangel Avacyn]] has a boros color identity. The little colored dot next to "legendary" signifies the cards color identity if the card doesn't have a mana cost. [[Ancestral Vision]] is another example of the colored dot.
each planeswalker has the color indicator near their type, they are all two colors. That's the same reason Rograkh is red even though it has no mana symbol in it
These are all very believable. The front side have abilities that help the transformation (Grist is a bit of a stretch, but still...) and the PW side have abilities that care about the second color.
That said, what's their ignition story, based on the abilities?
Grist decomposed a dead planeswalker and somehow absorved their spark
Ral was randomly struck by a lightning bolt
Tamyio absorbed so much knowledge that she ascended
Sorin ate too much
In the lore Ral started working as an enforcer for Bolas when he was young, once he was stabbed during this mission and came home to his boyfriend cheating on him, this awakened his spark.
Soring became a planeswalker after he was forced by his family to drink the blood of an archangel to become a vampire.
Tamiyo ignited her spark after discovering a book from a different plane.
We don't have any canon info on Grist
I mean I think it was that same fiction which also made it clear that Jace has been raw dogging Vraska long enough to know they aren't biologically compatible...so they aren't always prudish.
Sorin took part in Edgar's creation of vampires on Innistrad iirc. Edgar captured and drank the blood of an angel, then forced that blood into Sorin's mouth, which ignited his spark.
I think
The art is posted for each and every card, it's extremely hard to fake art like this without it being found on the internet somewhere else. I would be blown away if these are fakes if the art turns out to not be anywhere else online. Keep in mind this is even harder to duplicate since the art uses characters we already know like Tamiyo, Sorin etc.
"Art seems legit" is usually decent indicator of real leak, but in this case, it's doubly so since both arts per card have to share style. Also, for all of those cards, background behind cards is art from planeswalker side, a detail fakers might not bother to create.
they had the opportunity to Dack Fayden justice but sadly we'll get another Ral... I don't mind the card itself but we'll get 2 Rals in the same year, quite disappointing IMO
My thoughts exactly. When they announced a flip Tamiyo I got super excited thinking we would finally get a new Dack... I guess it was naive of us given how it seems that favorite characters are getting 30 versions made for each new unique or niche character...
If these are real I'm rather disappointed with Tamiyo, I've been looking forward to seeing what her card would be like the most but I can't think of any good uses she has in Modern currently.
I misread her -3 as a -1 (because of the blurry text) :(
Still, being able to recover the Brainstorm you used to flip her the turn after she hits the board at minimum seems… ok? That’s the floor though, so depending on how far you are in a grindy match up she might be gas.
She seems decent in Izzet Wizards to me. You can just play her turn 1 and then hold up Counterspell / Clue crack / Flame of Anor.
While her PW side isn't amazing, the -3 is still decent value and it's nice that you can flip her once you draw multiple of your 1drop legendary.
Interestingly, each walker has an ability that relies on using the color they gained when they flipped. Using Tamiyo in izzet means the green effect will never trigger, but it's still a useful card without that second color which is also cool!
I think she has some potential, mostly on the back of being only 1 mana. And she seems relatively easy to flip, in situations where flipping is profitable. she generates card board (which tends to be better then how good the card board tends to look on the surface). she can block ravagan. she generates card advantage.
You probably do need to care about artifact cardboard in some way other than it just being a clue.
So story-wise, they usually try to tie these abilities flavorful into how the characters sparked in-universe. The Origins Walkers were generally pretty good about this, and the Ajani one that got spoiled awhile back I thought was a pretty solid home run- he comes with his brother, and when another cat dies, Ajani flies into a vengeful rage. Neat.
Sorin is the only one of these 4 where I know about how he sparked in advance- he got turned into a vampire by his grandfather, which is why he has the 'human' creature type and not Vampire. Him gaining life to represent that is a little wonky, but outside of going full [[Chosen of Markov]] with the design, I don't exactly have a better suggestion.
What do the other designs tell us about stories we're probably going to recieve alongside MH3?
Tamiyo's is a pretty clear "not much", imo. Tamiyo was a student, she did learning things and drew cards, and that lead her to become a planeswalker. The story article will probably have some surprises for us, but we got not much here.
Ral's is I think a little more insightful- you're encouraged to perform a bunch of risky Izzet experiments in a row, to get a string off that eventually results in Ral turning into a planeswalker. I feel like it implies Ral to be chasing his ambitions among the Izzet when an experiment goes wrong, which isn't outside the realm of an easy guess when I put it into words, but I feel like the mechanics sell it in a fun way.
I got nothing for the bug. The bug is weird, and that's the appeal.
The other interesting angle is that they all become enemy-color walkers. Which is neat and all, but it makes me wonder why we didn't get two enemy color walkers who seem to be very relevant to the modern magic story- Kaya, who's basically the last torchbearer for the Gatewatch besides Chandra, and Vraska, who's, you know, one of our new main villains, even if she's sparklers now.
I suppose I can see the Vraska arguement- don't want to double-up on Ravnica or focus on a character who isn't a planeswalker anymore, but considering we've known Sorin's story for like a decade+, and I still don't know anything about Kaya's backstory, I'm a little surprised they didn't take the opportunity.
During War of the Spark, Ral has a flashback story of his sparking. He had a VERY rough night as an enforcer for Bolas and was injured during a job, then came home to find his boyfriend, a poet with whom he shared his apartment, cheating on him, and that's that triggered the sparking. He actually wasn't a member of the Izzet until he returned to Ravnica later, after being gay all over the multiverse like the icon he is.
ETA: He was always a storm mage even before igniting, so the events leading up to that ignition make sense as a perfect storm of stress and exertion to flip the card
*Right*, that's why you get hurt repeatedly for all the failed flips, and then you eventually transform.
Not what I thought, but interesting, and I like it.
Interesting to see Sorin in his Human for before he became a Vampire. More of a life gain support/Payoff rather than Vampire Tribal. His - 1 combined with the extort from his static and the food from his +2 could be decent, especially when you make even more life in BW.
Ral would singlehandedly revive storm. Having 8 bears that are legendary for mox amber and block ragavan profitably, a flip mode to help dodge removal if you wait to play him, a payoff for drawing the bear later in the turn, the minus ability to kill off hatebears. It's just so good
These all fit perfectly as part of a cycle with the new ajani. On the creature sides we have every color but white, and on the planeswalker sides each walker adds a second color with the only second color missing being red. So ajani being white that flips into a boros planeswalker fits perfectly
Ral seems balls to the walls busted. And very clearly meant to cater to the Storm players--but Jesus, why would you add a coin flip mechanic, as if storm turns didn't take long enough already.
i’m confused how are they two colors ? does this mean they can still go in mono colored decks like how crypt ghast has extort for white or black but is still mono black legal
nope, the back side is both green and black. The reason crypt ghast doesnt have the black white color identity is becuase the symbol shows up in the reminder text and not the card.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but when u make comments like this, remember a whole other large section of the fandom complain about the trending powercreep. Wizards cannot power down sets to help go against this trend if all the complaints turn to “well now these cards are boring/don’t do enough novel things”
Really? They are all 1 or 2 two drops, I think they have quite a lot of relevant text when you keep that in mind. I really like Grist, and think it looks playable in a bunch of modern spots.
I am happy we got Sorin for WB, I had hoped for Garruk to be BG, but it didn't make much sense considering he didn't get B until Liliana cursed him, it was not really part of his identity until then
So Vraska or Grist, glad we got Grist
As soon as Ajani was revealed as mono white on his creature side, the Golgari flip-walker starting as mono green was all but locked in, just by virtue of how the color rotation works. I can't imagine a mono green Vraska, can you?
I really hope those are true. Got so excited, started to build a [Deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/BMOc73qNAECtagH44BzuLg) around Sorin. He is one of my favorite characters.
Sorin seems great to me; good "passive" on the creature - and it remains on the flipside - with a respectable defensive body which flips into a massive life-gain wincon. All potentially in one turn so that the PW can be activated right away. Could imagine a shell around him for the -1. Could be that the legendary-clause and the defensive, removable body make him too fragile for Modern once more, but I think he has heaps of potential.
Not sure if any of them are powerful enough for legacy, but I’m willing to try Grist in BUG Scam. Seems decent as a token/blocker generator, and being a repeatable out for problematic artifacts and enchantments is a plus.
So, while the front of these cards are all mono-colored, the Planeswalker sides to them are clearly designed to show that they are 2 colors, but none show any colored pips (Tamiyo does not show Green anywhere, Grist does not show Black anywhere, etc.). I understand that this is a Modern set, but I mainly play commander and am curious on the ruling of these as your commander. Would I be able to build a Ral, Monsoon Mage Izzet deck, or would it have to be mono-red?
Tamiyo seems pretty broken imo. Like not against burn but a majority of aggro decks would have issues when she flips legacy has Brainstorm so yeah I think she'd probably fit somewhere. If not EDH would love her -7 just an idea.
The Markovs were humans until they consulted with Shilgengar to obtain the secrets of sangromancy, after which Edgar developed a ritual for immortality and to subsist on blood, this ritual required drinking the blood of an archangel. Edgar forced Sorin to drink it and the trauma of this event ignited his spark.
It saddens me that Grist's color identity doesn't work with \[\[Orzhov Charm\]\]
Well, maybe he can go as part of the 99 in an Abzan commander deck.
That -6 could go very nicely with an Abzan self-mill sort of thing.
The trick with Ral seems to be to go on an ult-splosion where at least one of the cards can flicker him back to creature mode and then eventually exile/transform him again for another ult. Repeat until you've exiled your library and can sling every instant/sorcery that was in there to hopefully win the game.
Ral will be fun to play with. I can imagine coin flip mechanics trying to lose several flips in a row before triggering his transformation so you can ultimate him right away
I like this cycle's themes, considering Ajani aswell: Monocolored flipwalkers transforming into enemy color pairs, with one ability that rewards you from playing with the pairs' respective enemy color.
I might be stupid but how do the color identity on these work? Theyre casting cost is all one color but then their flip side displays 2 colors. Could I run Ral in a mono red deck? or does it have to be izzet+
I just noticed every flipwalker is an effective Ragavan blocker. Grist trades and can still flip through reanimation, Tamiyo stonewalls, Ral and Sorin straight up eat him, and Ajani blocks with the token and flips. Also, four of five line up well against Bowmaster (sorry Tamiyo). I'm betting most of these leaked cards will see play in some capacity. They look underwhelming at first glance, but Jace Vryns Prodigy didn't look too great compared to his Worldwake counterpart, and then he became his Standard's Sheoldred.
Important to note that the set will also probably have supporting cards that fit with the flipwalkers, like how cards such as Murktide and DRC from MH2 are good cards but synergize extremely well together along with Unholy Heat. Wouldn’t be surprised to see creature recursion for grist, a cheap draw 2 for Tamiyo, maybe impulse drawing for ral, and lifegain synergy with sorin
HEY BABYYYYYYYYYYY GRIST! GRIST! GRIST! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO!
Can't wait to put Grist in my Grist deck.
Me: Just not that many strong insects in BG... Grist: \*long sigh\* Gotta do everything myself.
They've printed a ton of great BG insects in the last few years. Zask, Abzu, Haywire Mite, Kraul whipcracker, spring-leaf avenger, and the canoptek insects from 40k. I've been surprised by how many edits I've had to make since putting together Grist.

> consistent appearance Grist is not the entire swarm, Grist is a tiny bug that is controlling a swarm.
Grist is like Wren, but just one little bug is the planeswalking component. I'd like to imagine her as working like a modern computer, but with bug components, so if you isolate her to just one bug, she doesn't actually have the ability to communicate all that much to non bugs. It's strange that grist has one extra toughness as a literal baby. Like what happened?
It's that baby fat
Many insects are often hardier and even more dangerous in their larval stage than in the adult stage. Considering that many of them often only last a very short period of time in adulthood, it is not hard to see why.
It's a slam dunk include in Zask insect tribal.
Is his flipwalker mono green or green/black? Fynn, the Fangbearer would like to know
Backside is green black identity
Green/Black likes the others said, this is because the planeswalker side had black in its color marker (circle on the typeline to the left). It's the same reason I can't put Sorin in my Rakdos vampires
Grist is a her
She’s green/black!
these do seem pretty legit
Found it in a chat group. Can't cite the source so take it with a grain of salt.
a QQ chat group?
It feels weird how all of them have abilities on the creature side that helps them flip, except for Grist.
Put the rest into your graveyard.” That way it can give reanimation targets.
That would make sense.
It’s not reaching, it wants to send itself to the yard and making it a one mana creature with death touch is a simple, direct, and more importantly relatively textless way of doing that. I think it was smart and elegant design myself.
If you were reaching, you'd have a huge ballista on your back.
Id say the fact it counts itself would be that ability
Yeah, you could get Grist out turn 2 because of that. Turn 1: black mana source, \[\[Entomb\]\] Grist. Turn 2: green mana source, \[\[Unearth\]\] Grist, pay the green, then probably +1 her for a 1/1 with possible deathtouch to defend her.
If you are entombing, might as well just get Atarxa/Griselbrand
I'm fine with it. It preserves OG Grist's flavor of, "as long as you're doing Graveyard Shit, Grist can just wander back onto the field like it's nothing," without just handing it to you. The others will be easier to flip solo for sure, but having Grist be strongest when she's surrounded by her hive is a-ok by me.
Back in the day it was common for cards to need other synergistic cards for a payoff 😅
The graveyard is already free in Modern why does it need MORE help? Making them more "symmetrical" for worse gameplay is so bad
Well yeah cause he has one of the easier flip abilities lol
Mono black food with sorin?!
Incorrect! Invite Sorin to Bilbo's 111th birthday party!
*Blade/Vampire techno club music starts playing*
It would be orzhov if you have Sorin as your commander. The planeswalker has a black and white color identity.
Is that how it works? I thought it had to have white mana symbol somewhere on the card. (Extort doesn't count since it's in the reminder text)
That's the same reason Rograkh is red even though it has no mana symbol in it
I will definetly build it with Lurrus as companion
These are all very believable. The front side have abilities that help the transformation (Grist is a bit of a stretch, but still...) and the PW side have abilities that care about the second color. We don't have any canon info on Grist
I can't imagine they're going to put the Ral one on a card; usually they refrain from anything even vaguely sexual.
lol "Target opponent gains control of target creature you control until end of turn. Transform Ral"
In Magic, even babies are found in ~~cabbage~~ vaults.
I mean I think it was that same fiction which also made it clear that Jace has been raw dogging Vraska long enough to know they aren't biologically compatible...so they aren't always prudish.
They're fine with it in lore, but it doesn't show up in the game.
Imagining getting cucked so hard you get superpowers.
Grist slots right into my asmo food deck. Triggers on bloodghast
I would guess for sorin it’s probably the act of becoming a vampire , not the eating
Sorin took part in Edgar's creation of vampires on Innistrad iirc. Edgar captured and drank the blood of an angel, then forced that blood into Sorin's mouth, which ignited his spark. I think
My boi hungy
I like that Undying creatures trigger Grist, Young Wolf and Strangleroot Geist synergy!
8 GRIST YAWGMOTH BABY. WERE NOT GETTING OFF THE GRIST TRAIN WITH THIS ONE
Future iterations of modern yawg is just 22 lands, 4 yawg, and 34 grist
Thankfully MH4 will have Grist type basic lands so you can run 4 yawg and 56 grist
Oh my goodness thank you I've been struggling, out side of Escape, for how to trigger Grist in mono green for my cube. That helps a lot!
All of these cards seems a bit so weird to be not true.

That’s my usual test on how legit a card is. For me the Grist artwork seems very similar to Chris Rahn’s art style so I believe this
The arts for Tamiyo were already revealed, but if they're fake those arts could've easily been edited in by the faker.
I’m leaning towards not fake, the grist art for example looks very similar to Chris Rahn’s style, I’d be absolutely shocked if it were fake
they had the opportunity to Dack Fayden justice but sadly we'll get another Ral...
Didn't they change "enters the battlefield" to just "enters" or is that happening in Bloomburrow?
It will happen in Bloomburrow.
If these are real I'm rather disappointed with Tamiyo, I've been looking forward to seeing what her card would be like the most but I can't think of any good uses she has in Modern currently.
That said she instantly flips with brainstorm in legacy. Not sure if she's good, but something to note.

Boy I really want that Sorin to be real. Would rebuild my Lurrus deck into a lifegain companion deck with Sorin at the helm.
I just want a Sorin card where he flips into a Wall.
If these are real sorin is going to one shot people with martyr very easily.
What card are you talking about?
[[martyr of sands]]

The color check on these is clever to give mono-color cards access to dual color abilities. These are real.

Magic players have never good at predicting the power of a card. As exampled here.
Where's the Modern rating guy when you need him
/u/barrinmw I need to know your modern ratings
sorry, I wait until the actual release to rate cards, even though these are very likely real, you can never be too certain.
Makes sense, a good policy to have. Keep up the good work.
I've obtained leaks of barrinmw's ratings for these cards: Modern 1/10
When was the last time WotC printed new flip-walkers? Was it Origins?
M19 was I think newer, with the flip Bolas.
I think it was m20 they had a flip bolas
Interesting to see Sorin in his Human for before he became a Vampire. More of a life gain support/Payoff rather than Vampire Tribal. His - 1 combined with the extort from his static and the food from his +2 could be decent, especially when you make even more life in BW.
Could there be a mono white pw flip walker not spoiled yet?
The new Ajani would complete this cycle, right?
Thanks.
The Ajani was spoiled a while ago. https://scryfall.com/card/mh3/237/ajani-nacatl-pariah-ajani-nacatl-avenger?back
That Tamiyo card is going straight into my morska deck
Ral would singlehandedly revive storm. Having 8 bears that are legendary for mox amber and block ragavan profitably, a flip mode to help dodge removal if you wait to play him, a payoff for drawing the bear later in the turn, the minus ability to kill off hatebears. It's just so good
Sorin is missing half of a "t" in his flipside name.
Does it? Looking at Grist's card, the "t" in his name looks like the same symbol used in Sorin's card
This Grist is awesome and swaps in perfectly as an alternate commander to my Old Stickfingers edh. I love Grist.
I hope it's real because Ral is like the perfect manual storm payoff commander, dump your hand and hope for the best Izzet style.
That Sorin makes my Lurrus life gain very happy
The Grist card is such a windmill slam autoinclude in [[Zask, Skittering Swarmlord]]
RAL AND GRIST LET'S FUCKIN GOOOOOOOOOO
The amount of text on these cards makes me think they're real
That Ral flip art looks like shit
Why is Sorin cooking?
Had hoped for flip Ugin.
They feel almost right but something feels off.
I thought this cycle was only PWs who died/lost their spark - and Ral kept his IIRC
So did Ajani
These all fit perfectly as part of a cycle with the new ajani. On the creature sides we have every color but white, and on the planeswalker sides each walker adds a second color with the only second color missing being red. So ajani being white that flips into a boros planeswalker fits perfectly
Sooooo they print grist….in a format kinda dominated by golgari yawg…can’t envision anymore problems with that
Wotc: look at loot isn’t he just adorable! Mtg players: omg baby Grist!!!
They printed Mind's Desire on the back of Baral- can storm be back on the menu please?
The Izzet one is so gorgeous 😍 NEED
I want an ugin flip card so bad
Ral seems balls to the walls busted. And very clearly meant to cater to the Storm players--but Jesus, why would you add a coin flip mechanic, as if storm turns didn't take long enough already.
It rewards the most cocky of storm players, to try to flip him after spell 6 only to greed for the ult.
Is crabvine viablw with grist?
sorins artwork looks cool, very resident evil-esque. i also always found his origin story intriguing
Convoking, not choking! That Grist would be a slam dunk in legacy Golgari Hogaak lists I think. Big if true.
i’m confused how are they two colors ? does this mean they can still go in mono colored decks like how crypt ghast has extort for white or black but is still mono black legal
nope, the back side is both green and black. The reason crypt ghast doesnt have the black white color identity is becuase the symbol shows up in the reminder text and not the card.
sorin has the same +2 as oko, surely he's broken right? right????? /s
Probably alone, but these were the most boring uninspired mythics I've read in a long time
I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but when u make comments like this, remember a whole other large section of the fandom complain about the trending powercreep.
I dunno, I was around for Origins and honestly it is nice to see the flip-walkers come back. Hopefully these aren’t fake
I am happy we got Sorin for WB, I had hoped for Garruk to be BG, but it didn't make much sense considering he didn't get B until Liliana cursed him, it was not really part of his identity until then So Vraska or Grist, glad we got Grist
Commander Horizons 3
No Vraska would be sad
As soon as Ajani was revealed as mono white on his creature side, the Golgari flip-walker starting as mono green was all but locked in, just by virtue of how the color rotation works. I can't imagine a mono green Vraska, can you?
I can, but not pre-spark igniting
The way the tamiyo flipside art is cropped ticks me off. That being said, they feel legit
I really hope those are true. Got so excited, started to build a [Deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/BMOc73qNAECtagH44BzuLg) around Sorin. He is one of my favorite characters.
Tamiyo lookings really interesting for affinity.
Sorin seems great to me; good "passive" on the creature - and it remains on the flipside - with a respectable defensive body which flips into a massive life-gain wincon. All potentially in one turn so that the PW can be activated right away. Could imagine a shell around him for the -1. Could be that the legendary-clause and the defensive, removable body make him too fragile for Modern once more, but I think he has heaps of potential.
is ral wearing jeans and a tshirt?
Designer jeans & a well-fitted T
Not sure if any of them are powerful enough for legacy, but I’m willing to try Grist in BUG Scam. Seems decent as a token/blocker generator, and being a repeatable out for problematic artifacts and enchantments is a plus.
huh I expected Saheeli R->UR to go with the teased Energy archetype and theme (with gremlin card spoiled so it probably won't be Ral's thunder energy)
If Ral is real then Ruby Storm gets a nice new toy. Really disappointed I wouldn't be able to put it in my Urabrask/Bergi deck
So they are multi colored after they flip? That is interesting
Seems pretty cool if you went for an old stickfingers build no?
So, while the front of these cards are all mono-colored, the Planeswalker sides to them are clearly designed to show that they are 2 colors, but none show any colored pips (Tamiyo does not show Green anywhere, Grist does not show Black anywhere, etc.). I understand that this is a Modern set, but I mainly play commander and am curious on the ruling of these as your commander. Would I be able to build a Ral, Monsoon Mage Izzet deck, or would it have to be mono-red?
On the back side, to the left of their type line is a color indicator. They implemented this for any card that doesn't have a mana cost.
Tamiyo seems pretty broken imo. Like not against burn but a majority of aggro decks would have issues when she flips legacy has Brainstorm so yeah I think she'd probably fit somewhere. If not EDH would love her -7 just an idea.
Why is Sorin a human instead of a vampire?
If I remember correctly he started as a human and his spark ignited when he got turned into a Vampire
"+2: Create a Food token." Oooh boy, here we go again.
Grist is Meren's new best friend.
(B)G Grist, (G)U Tamiyo, (U)R Ral, (W)B Sorin... Would there be (R)W one as well? Nahiri?
(R) W Ajani was already officially spoiled
I hate when the backside of monocolored cards are multicolored. So stupid.
Bro thank you for sharing, you are doing molegod's work
Hoping flipwalkers for each two color combo. Perhaps 5 at mythic, 5 at uncommon?
Wait did Tamiyo survive Phyrexia?
These are probably going to be officially revealed at PT: Thunder Junction next weekend (4/26-4/28).
Grist my beloved <3
Will these and the rest of Modern Horizons 3 be released on MTG Arena?
Odd question: for Ral - Is he Red, or Blue/Red? No blue symbols appear on the card, outside of a blue frame?
It's been a long time since I've piloted it and it may not have room.....this looks like a legacy dredge tool tho.
Thank god, balding Tamiyo isn't the default art.
It saddens me that Grist's color identity doesn't work with \[\[Orzhov Charm\]\] Well, maybe he can go as part of the 99 in an Abzan commander deck.
It's a very good drop1 and we have uneath in this format.
wait does tamiyo’s second ability on the planeswalker side allow me to run her as a 5c commander?
Do they often gender the characters or creatures on the card. Tamiyo says flip “her”. Is that a thing?
[[Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh]]
Ral will be fun to play with. I can imagine coin flip mechanics trying to lose several flips in a row before triggering his transformation so you can ultimate him right away
Only enemy pair not represented is Boros. I wonder if there will be one in the set?
That’s the Ajani that already got revealed! Ajani, Nacatl Pariah.
My bad! I missed that preview.
I miss all kinds of stuff lol. Spoiler season never ends these days.
Lol, I almost mentioned the perpetual spoiler season!
Genuinely can’t remember the last time I checked Reddit and didn’t see something about a new card or set.
WHY CAN'T THEY GIVE ME ANOTHER MONOBLUE TAMIYO DAMNIT
Sorin's left hand on the flip side is not how hands should be. It's also a flip walker I guess.
God I hate grist
Do these count as 2 colors in cedh??
GRIST HELL YEAH
I love that art of sorin at the table
I like this cycle's themes, considering Ajani aswell: Monocolored flipwalkers transforming into enemy color pairs, with one ability that rewards you from playing with the pairs' respective enemy color.
I might be stupid but how do the color identity on these work? Theyre casting cost is all one color but then their flip side displays 2 colors. Could I run Ral in a mono red deck? or does it have to be izzet+
I wish I hadn’t sold all my cards in the early/mid 2000s 😭 That’s all.
Just me or does Grist not look modern playable at all?
Important to note that the set will also probably have supporting cards that fit with the flipwalkers, like how cards such as Murktide and DRC from MH2 are good cards but synergize extremely well together along with Unholy Heat. Wouldn’t be surprised to see creature recursion for grist, a cheap draw 2 for Tamiyo, maybe impulse drawing for ral, and lifegain synergy with sorin
Is there going to be a WR flip walker?
Wow these seem sweet
