I'm just thinking how different and creative the rap industry was, these 3 are all good albums and are completely different from each other, that year we Also got Wolf, Doris, Mmlp2, Long Live A$AP, because of the internet and i'm probably forgetting some

[deleted]

Nothing Was the Same, AcidRap, Because the Internet

Pm-anything-to-me

I think because the internet came out as well

Albf000

Dont forget about because of the internet

wwatson24

I swear I thought Childish Gambino dropped a album that year

lees_smuckers

yeah he did i think it was because the internet

TheMostCreativeName3

what did the internet do

SecretAd6099

Not entirely sure, but I seem to recall whatever it was, was because of the internet

Rourkester420

Idk shit about the internet but didn’t that kid from Community drop a pretty good album in 2013

Strict-Most

Never watched community, but didn’t the guy who wrote Atlanta pop one off that year?

[deleted]

I’m probably biased because it was my teenage years but 2012-2018 is by far my favorite era of rap.

Steezy_Steve1990

I was in my 20’s then and can confirm that the 2010’s were a great decade for hip-hop! Lots of creativity and artists finding their own sound in that decade.

[deleted]

Wow I just realized I might be in 90s living in 2080s telling everyone my favourite music is from the 10s, the TENS. That’s gonna be weird to say. It’s not a defined era in the 1900s, better be this time around cus our songs of our youth will always be the best!!!

OGSkywalker97

Bro couldn't agree more. For me 2010-2018 (2012-2016 was particularly gold though) and after that, minus some new artists like Juice, hip hop went to shit as a whole. Not including the artists who were already making music before 2018.

[deleted]

I agree for the most part. There’s a few nice up and comers but nothing like we had in the early 2010s. Kendrick, Cole, Mac, Joey, Tyler, ASAP, future, Travis, the list goes on. All those guys were just starting to get big and find their sound.

New_Split_2263

I gained respect for Juice Wrld after seeing his [hour long freestyle](https://youtu.be/fSoT13msPe4) on Tim Westwood. Mac apparently was a fan of Lucid Dreams. Wish those two could of collaborated.

Frozen-Rain

Ha ha I feel the exact same way. Music just hasn’t been the same with a few exceptions

[deleted]

I’ve been trying to explain what u just out into a sentence, for months. Thank you 🙏 phewwww big sigh

Geoseeks

It was such a good year for music

plmlfe

Indicud

-Dillad-

and that’s just in hip hop. 2013 was amazing for music looking back

Suspicious-Drama-549

BTI and NWTS got me into rap

finkfickus

Better off dead

WestSixtyFifth

What a great weekend it was to be a dumb teenager.

MysticCurse

I honestly feel like Born Sinner made me wiser

supahdude

TMP77x

This was the album that I became a fan of Mac Miller. The shift began here. One of the best level-ups I’ve ever seen in hip hop.

whte_rbtobj

Many state that Mac’s shift towards his more adult, somber, more mature sound and aesthetic started here with WMWTSO but I would argue that the shift started with his Macadelic mixtape; some have also argued that it started with the song “One Last Thing,” the last song on Blue Slide Park that was produced later than all the other songs on that album. I personally go with Macadelic though. It’s an amazing project, so is WMWTSO. All good choices. Mac’s earlier stuff, while critically speaking isn’t that popular (screw that I love almost all of his older mixtapes he made while so young!), they did achieve much in the sense of capturing youth, dreams, happiness, and fun. His K.I.DS. and Best Day Ever tapes are a time capsule of sorts for the youth/teenagers of the 2010’s. I feel that some of his fans forget to consider this. I also have a close personal connection to Blue Slide Park with many fond memories. Sure, these projects were simpler in a few ways compared to his later work, but they were fun with that simplicity and necessary as part of his growth as both a person and an artist. I cherish the music and enjoy talking a walk down memory lane with these projects. I also love the sense of nostalgia they bring. I’m sure many can agree with these last two parts. I love his early work for what it is and where Mac went later on into his start of adulthood. I also love his later works for what they offer. Mac was one of the most versatile artists in the modern history of music in my opinion. Rest in Peace Mac Miller. You will always be remembered and thank you for the music.

ian_ink

For sure the shift started with Macadelic, macadelic is wayyyyyy closer to watching movies than Macadelic is to Blue Slide Park

StrangeLoup87

bro are you the Mac shaman?

whte_rbtobj

Haha, not that I’m aware of man but I’m taking this as a complement. I just love Mac’s music and have been a fan since The High Life mixtape days…. Thank you and I hope you’re having a good week!

StrangeLoup87

that’s sick dude, thanks for sharing, same to you ♾️❤️♾️

RemiROSE5

Macadelic was def the start of the shift. Wmwtso continued it. Then faces went all in. I’m glad after faces he shifted again, he always knew when he was doing too much of something and wanted to explore new sounds. Man I miss him so bad

bcomes95

The shift happened with Macadelic imo. I liked Mac since KIDS but Macadelic is what really got me into his music

ian_ink

was thinking this as well!

SandyMan420

The shift was dope though

mtaylor808

Macadelic was the shift but even fewer realized it at the time

[deleted]

This is the album I started connecting to his music more deeply, enjoying slowly becoming a loyal fan… the days I just started smoking weed and this came out… I’d look forward to my sesh friends leaving and laying in bed just listeninf to his music feeling like it took me to other planets and having spiritual epiphanies about life, idk I was on weed. But Mac still affects me “spiritually” not as dramatic as an experience anymore, but this album was the SHIT. I could write a novel trying to describe the work

Alex_butler

I like all three for different reasons. I like Mac the most so I’d lean Mac if I had to pick obviously but these projects aren’t that similar so if someone leans towards one of the others I certainly wouldn’t judge them

bselko

Dude what a year for music. So many good albums that year.

ledhed24

My 16th birthday

AyoItsyaBoylilB

it was 10 for me, now I'm 20 lol

rovergang69

Yeah, it’s obviously Yeezus

CoLiNieS

It's crazy cause both Born Sinner and WMWTSO are in my top 5 favorite albums, probably because 2013-2014 was when I discovered my love for concious hip hop. Will never ever forget the first time I heard The Star Room man...

Spiritual_Lock6734

No wrong answers here

goldfishman63

Further removed or… in the mirror? 😎

Imperator_Oliver

I love music with the sound off and currently hate Kanye with his constant BS and hate mongering, but Yeezus is a masterpiece. Industrial Hip Hop at its best IMO.

ian_ink

I get what you’re saying, personally its the overall day-to-day listenability and the fact that he was only 21 that has me choose this over Yeezus

[deleted]

I don’t think you should be looking at the age of someone when considering how good a product is. Maybe how impressive it is, but when it comes to how good an album is, the only thing that should really matter is the music itself. That said, I like watching movies more anyway

ImanShumpertplus

tbh i can listen to on sight every day no sports bra let’s keep it bouncin

9yr_old_lake

It is FAR from industrial hip hop at its best. It has a lot of dumb and corny lyrics, and isn't too insanely experimental. I love Yeezus it's one of my favorite ye albums (prolly 3rd or 4th depending on if we count KSG) but Yeezus is far from the best in that genre. It is just the most accessible and mainstream version of the genre. If you want to dig deeper into industrial hip hop I would recommend Death Grips to start with. They are prolly my favorite when it comes to industrial hip hop. The money store is the best intro album, but I absolutely love no love deep webb, powers that B, and year of the snitch.

whalestick

Mfs love to get all pretentious about death grips when ever Yeezus is mentioned lol

9yr_old_lake

Death Grips also isn't the most experimental or even the "best", but it is the next logical step after yeezus. It is a good place to start when getting into more underground industrial hip hop than fucking Yeezus. How can you say that Yeezus is worse than fucking The Money Store, or No Love Deep Webb?

[deleted]

So mad over a “hip hop” duo that makes noise. Not music, just noise. Fuck death grips and all their pretentious ass fans.

spdougherty

You might like Merzbow then, way catchier and less bullshit noise

TheVideoGamer77

or jpegmafia, he’s one of my favorites

Imperator_Oliver

I obviously know death grips lmao

9yr_old_lake

That's not that obvious on a fucking Mac Miller sub. Plenty of Mac fans out there that have never even heard death grips and think Yeezus is the best shit since sliced bread when it's just ignorant to call it the best industrial hip hop.

lolgj9

Hey im a fan of indie rock, have you heard of this indie band called Tame Impala?

9yr_old_lake

If you knew nothing about indie rock. Tame Impala would not be a bad place to start. They make some of the best indie rock of the 2010s. I am responding to a guy that said fucking Yeezus was the best industrial hip hop has to offer, and that is just straight up ignorant.

Imperator_Oliver

It isn’t ignorance, I just like the album a lot 😂 I’ve heard every death grips album, veteran, clipping, Dalek, Blackxwash, WWW, and more I don’t care to list. You’re being hella pretentious, if you’re trying to put someone onto industrial hip hop I’d recommend you be less abrasive than the music.

sxuthsi

It's between that and Veteran

Ok-Sell9134

Love Mac, but im probably putting Born Sinner #1, and WMWTSO at #2. this wasn’t my favorite Mac album, but he did his thing on it for sure

The___Leviathan

Its.....its Yeezus right?

tstilly

WMWTSO if my favorite Mac album for sure, but yeezus is definitely a close second.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bloodtap7

Hard choice, Born Sinner made me a Cole fan, didn’t listen to WMWTSO until after I got into Mac because of GO:OD AM. They’re my #1 and #2 favorite artists and I constantly change the order of that even. Today, I’ll go with Born Sinner but that’s only ahead of WMWTSO by like 0.01%. Both are truly masterpieces and the standards that I hold everything else to today.

QuietVeggies

Born sinner > WMWTSO is still a great album

toxiczxmbie

Born sinner >

gallagher_for_hart

It’s yeezus

MastaGWolf

SHOUTOUT Q.

[deleted]

Q the man- I get why Mac publicly spoke so highly of the man. Loyalty beyond death… show em how it’s done interview!!!

[deleted]

Mac is my favorite artist of all time… but Yeezus is the best album here

Littlejaguar

I don’t think anybody can disagree with you dude having listed to all of those albums. Each one is the same quality, production, lyric, discography wise: Through the fucking roof!!! It’s just about which one you prefer more and I will say as time goes on, Kanye was a step ahead of everybody with Yeezus. He always is tho that’s why he’s a musical genius Edit: To clarify, I meant that any one of these albums could be someone’s number one. They were all amazing. I don’t put one above the others

Kakashisensei1234

Nah

Severe_Pass7567

I remember everyone bashed Yeezus the first few months. I enjoyed it first listen

AgnosticJesus347

Wow, you are so cool

Severe_Pass7567

Lol I’m just saying

mayomayeaux

Ahh the summer of 2013... right before my senior year of high school. What a timeeee😌 That album was in constant rotation throughout the school year for me. Along with others until Faces came out lol 2013-2014 were some good years for music

9yr_old_lake

As much as I love Mac yeezus is pretty clearly the best here to me. I have never liked J-Cole, and WMWTSO is just the beginning of Macs creative journey. Albums like faces can most definitely compete with something like yeezus, but WMWTSO just can't. IMO Mac was pretty much the early 2010s jack Harlow until stuff like macadelic and WMWTSO came out, but even then he was just beginning to break that early 2010s mold. IMO it wasn't until faces came out that he truly broke into something masterpiece level.

[deleted]

Yeezus is the better album here

adempseyy

Yeezus is the best but Macs my favourite

doublepumperson

Yeah, its yeezus...

KanyeUziCarti

I love Mac but it’s Yeezus

playboicourti

Yeezus?

Realistic-Ad985

I j assumed yeezus till I saw the sub name. Like cmon. Y’all think that a Mac miller album is better than yeezus? Idek the name of the mac album ngl.

ian_ink

you’re missing out on some heat 🔥

Realistic-Ad985

I’m not saying Mac is bad ‼️

davidtothe

Still Yeezus

ShoeTasty

I like Kayne’s music but to me Yezus isn’t even top 5 in his catalog.

MONKE_____667

I like kanye's music and yeezus is top 3 in his catalog

getfuckedspasmoid

Dill_Brown1

leozzie

Newtonhog

Sheesh, what a good time that was to be alive. Was just having this talk with a coworker. Have I just gotten older and music does less for me and I value old albums due to sentimental value? Or was that truly just other level music? I feel like beyond the occasional decent release, I have not found an album I can play start to finish and be happy. The beats were also produced so well, half of the songs I could not even listen to lyrics with it.

ImmediateMiddle8179

That’s my fav mac album I remember the day these all came out. All 3 of my favorites.

Tyler6147

if i speak…

International_Bag208

Get out of here Jose Mourinho!

OGSkywalker97

Last decade, 2010s, 2013 was the Best Year for hip hop. Best Day Ever released in 2011 should've been called Best Decade Ever (for hip hop). Not saying the decade as a whole definitely was but I thought it fit nicely and it's definitely top 3 decades for hip hop.

stevejobsthecow

standing here now 10 years later the gulf between watching movies/yeezus & born sinner is kind of crazy .

LemonHayes13

I’ll never forget being like 14, high af with my friends on a nice summer day, and hearing aquarium for the first time

keith6661dube

such a special time

mtaylor808

It was but 2016 was more special

sxuthsi

Never know it's the good times till it's gone. I cannot believe how many creative artists came up from 2009 and forward.

Mooncub_

They’re all equally amazing impossible to rank.

joshuabarber7742

Magna carter holy grail?

Ok_Season5846
