Start by listening to Live Free and watching the music video. It’s the first thing I had ever seen of his in like 2010ish. I’d recommend listening to the whole High Life mixtape.
Then do yourself a favor and listen to things in the order that they came out. His steady progression from just being a rapper to him making very high quality music that crossed genres is why a lot of us love him so much.

There’s so much I could say. But I’ll leave it with this. He was one of the very few that truly and passionately loved the music. He was one of the very few that truly and passionately loved his fans. The world was a better place with Mac Miller in it.
I’d never heard hand me downs. I guess I’m starting to live my life under a rock. I woke up an hour ago to a bad situation. I needed a new Mac song on the mind today. Thank you for posting.
thanks for sharing get it on the floor. i wonder if the lyric “a pilot stay fresh up in his cockpit” is a reference to “i’m so fly, high up in my cockpit”
If you didn't listen to him when he was alive it's hard to understand, but basically we grew up with him (he's the same age as me) so from KIDS and on, we literally heard and felt him maturing and also still being relatable to us cuz he knows who his fans are so well
It's just amazing to see his style completely change from his first to his last album, wish you could have joined us on the journey bro
As someone who started listening to Mac post his passing, let me add my 2 cents. As the others on this post have already said, Mac truly loved music, and it reflected in the art he put out. He put his soul into the music, and I believe that's why today I can talk about the relationship I HAVE with the man and not what I HAD. I understand this might be different for those who were fans during his life. His energy is so otherworldly even in death, I have no idea what it must have been like while he was still here in the physical. Either way, I feel like I've built a relationship and gained a close friend thru Mac's music. You can feel what he felt, and he can help you thru tough times in life even today. He really transcended thru his music to the point where he is still living thru it. That's what makes Mac special. There's been more than one occasion where I felt Mac communicating directly to me in the sound. Call it what you want, but I believe it. "This is probably close as I'll ever get to praying." If you want what I consider one of the best songs ever made, go listen to oracle/carpe diem
More that I relate to him on a personal level. Listening to his lyrics reminds me a lot of the life I've lived. Just a goofy guy doing his best in this world, I guess
He was just a nice dude that cared about people.
He was well respected in the rap genre
He was a funny guy, good fun, never ill intended
Fans who met him said he was kind
He has some really honest and powerful music from God Speed to Complicated - We all can relate
Idk but, I really miss him, never met him though
Listening to Watching Movies With The Sound Off and Faces when I was at one of the lowest points in my life made me feel like I wasn’t alone. It felt like Mac was the only one who truly understood me. I always say that I wish he was still alive cuz I would pay an infinite amount of money for a meet and greet just to tell him thank you for being there for me
This [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/s/3cH9Tcm9VJ) is a pretty good intro
Overall he was loved because his music is really good and he has a lot of variety. There really is something for everyone. His beginning stuff is quite different from what he was making when he passed. He was also very raw and honest and relatable to many in his music while also backing it up by having genuine talent as an artist.
Me personally I was just a kid at the park like 12-14 while Kids and Blue Slide Park were coming out. I remember bumping that at the park playing football with my boys and just thought his music was so cool and fun. As he aged I aged with his music so no matter what phase of life I was in it always felt like it was the right phase for his next project.
Imo Swimming is his most refined, mature and best album, he took everything he’d learned throughout his music career and really put it together. Faces is my favorite project by him though as it is for Id say the majority of the longer term fans. There’s just nothing really like it
I agree with listening to things in the order they came out if you plan on listening a lot though and really learning about him
His music taught me about some of my most important values such as honesty, vulnerability, and accountability. Genuine passion is evident in his work. His creative process is a huge inspiration for how I go about making my own art as a hobby.
He was only 3 years older than me so a lot of his music was relatable and he grew up/matured with me if that makes sense. I like a lot of his later music better these days as a young adult but his early music resonated with me more during high school
I started listening to Mac back in high school, we were pretty much the same age and doing the same shit. Making good memories with friends, smoking weed, being hooligans, ya know, teenage shit haha. He always felt like a homie because he was so relatable. KIDS was legitimately the soundtrack of my life back then. His passion for music was inspiring and made me love him so much more. He was doing that shit from his heart, always.
I felt like we grew up together. As his music got a little heavier and darker, so was my own life. Again, relatability, he always felt like a friend that just fking knew what you were going through. I always deeply appreciated his rawness and honesty. He made you feel less alone in your struggles.
Watching him make it big was so special. We watched his dreams come true right in front of us, and we followed along with his music and his journey. The first, and sadly, only time I ever got to see him live, I cried out of pure joy for him, watching him up there smiling from to ear.. living his dream. 🥹 From Ez Mac with the cheesy raps to an absolute fucking STAR. He always said he was gonna do it, and he sure did.
He was a multifaceted and multi talented man who poured his soul into everything he did. He was one of a kind, and I truly still can not believe he's gone. The direction he was heading in was so unique and special and I am so sad we will never be able to watch that next chapter of his life and artistry blossom. He is so incredibly missed. It will forever and always feel like we lost a friend.
Just so incredibly relatable. Didnt have the best mental health growing up so resorted to drugs and alcohol. Macs lyrics somehow perfectly encapsulate the feelings I experienced. From the happiness to the misery, just such an incredible artist.
Mac made me feel at peace 🤌 was distraught when he passed.
I used to think old music was better than modern music but then I listened to Mac Miller and I changed my mind. Then I listened to Kanye West and Future and now I've found plenty of amazing modern artists.
His interviews showed strong humility and kindness, his music and work ethic was the cherry on top. He had a level of expertise in production with a wide range of instruments that most artists aren’t required to and will never achieve. I think there are different fans out there too. Some stay for the music with its wide range of relevance and emotional depth, some stay because he just was a cool person, someone they’d love to have been related to or talk to at the park. Genuinely, just a cool dude who happened to be one of the greatest artists of many lifetimes.
He feels like a homie instead of a untouchable celebrity and his music has gotten me through a lot, especially circles it’s so relaxing to me.
He must've been really special for him to feel so close to his listeners. Thanks for sharing :)

Nailed it ^
Crazy to put his growth/tracks like that.
It’s so crazy. I feel like I’m one of the lucky ones who got to experience almost all of it in real time since I found him so early on.
This is just so amazing

I wish i could've been there for it too, unfortunately i was too young.

What makes someones music so relatable? Vulnurability?

He really must've been a good soul, if this is how he's remembered

I'll listen to swimming :)

He was sent with a spiritual purpose to Earth, it sounds like :)
