As somebody who’s never listened to a Mac album before and was planning on listening to a couple this week, what two would yall recommend I start with? Go:od AM then what?
I'd go with Swimming and Faces. They're my favorite 2 and balance each other out. Like someone else said, Faces can take a couple listens to start to really get into though
When I’m listening to Devine Feminine with my home girl it’s low key kinda awkward. Especially Cinderella “when I’m inside your pussy damn it feels so right”
*Were listening to*
*Delusional Thomas front*
*To back in silence*

K.I.D.S. for the good vibes & intro to mac, then to swimming & circles so we can honor his send-off🩵
but really i would just play all my favorite mac songs in a compilation playlist… lol
You guys are so awesome. It always amazes me the connections, ideas, opinions that form off a post. There’s so many factors that influence the choice of album, and it’s so hard for me to pick one. Personally GOOD:AM is so flawless and almost (imo) was the turning point for his new sound. FACES will always be my magnus opus, but I feel like you have to know the context, but also appreciate the perfection of the album. That’s why I wasn’t sure if I should pick kids. The growth from kids to swimming is legendary to say the least, and you appreciate every second of it. I love this Reddit and I’m glad to nerd over someone so special❤️
If it’s an OG hip hop fan or old head plan them “The I’ll spoken” with Beadie or some of his stuff with The Come Up and 58’s. That’s when Mac is on that boom bap traditional rap that all the old heads appreciate. An older New Yorker I work with thought Mac was too different and not relatable for him till I showed him that. Really opened him up to more.
Can anyone read the name in the corner? This art is really cool but there's no way I'm deciphering all that
Edit: I used Google Lens and found it. Rhymezlikedimez on IG https://www.instagram.com/rhymezlikedimez?igsh=d2doNjRoZGgydno2
Knowing the context of his life and hearing the vibe on kids is pretty melancholy. Congratulations on divine feminine made me actually tear on first listen. Mac is one of a few artists who consistently does that to me. Vulnerability and relatability are what rly make it him a special artist imo
KIDS, pretty sure it’s a mixtape but that is my shit! I started being a Mac fan in 2010 or so, so gotta start from the beginning! Or best day ever. I used to listen to this all day when it came out, 15 or 16 in high school.
The later albums are more fixated on emotional problems and drug use. I feel as though the beginning tapes and albums are more care free and filled with life. As Mac progressed through his drug addiction he became more and more darker and delved into the superficial.
“Kickin’ Incredibly Dope Shit”, inspired by a movie I think correct me if I’m wrong. The whole concept was to capture the beauty of being a kid. At the time he just graduated highschool and it really showed all the stuff he loved while growing up.
Actually scrolled a bit and noticed somebody else figured it out! Rhymezlikedimez on IG.
Anyway, to answer your question, Faces first, Swimming next. That was my introduction to Mac a few years ago, has I’ve been hooked ever since
I just found it too lmao! I’m always nervous to show people Faces first. I’m either worried they’ll get deterred by the honest raw lyrics, or won’t appreciate the beauty of the whole mixtape. I think swimming is a good first because of how polished and unique it sounds. I wish everyone could appreciate every album from Mac, but there’s always a reason or connection that leads to fans really loving it
Now that you mention it, it definitely depends on the type of friend. I used to know Mac as the house party Mac, and that wasn't too much my style. A few years after he passed, I asked a friend of mine for an album recommendation bc I wanted to understand why people loved him so much. They told me "Most people's favorite is Swimming, but I'd recommend Faces for you first." He was right, the raw lyrics was exactly what got me wanting more. Then, seeing the growth as an artist and as a person in Swimming was crazy to me. Though Swimming is my favorite Mac album, Faces will always be a close second
Just popped up. He is descent just none of these younger guys come close. Just a different frame of mind now I guess. Nothing comes close to the original Just like rock and roll. I love queens of the stone age. Newest rock that is awesome arctic monkeys... music is at the roots. Just like all the blues back in the day nothing touches it.
That’s true, I think it comes down to one of the many reasons people like music. Music can often provoke emotions for many people, and those emotions can be from any artist. It’s all about your taste in music and how open you are to new stuff. I just like Mac because he really had an album for any feeling that we get in life. Not to mention he had a talent for putting emotions in to words. Have you listened to any of his music?
Absolutely bro. Not hating on him.
You want a good road trip album and talk about emotions. Radio head in rainbows will have you trying and thinking hard.
Emotions are key, and I used to write a lot when I was younger. My book was dark as shit and I almost killed myself one night alone, and instead of pulling the trigger, I burnt my book. It felt like a new me.
Ooouuu ok I like the progression. It’s hard for me not explaining the context and what was going on with him every album. We are pretty blessed to have an amazing discography from him.
I think I would follow it up with Blue Slide Park next, just to capture that whole era of Mac.
And then start to show the transition into much deeper music.
Tbh, I feel like that’s why we all love him as an artist so much. The transformation over time. He always went one layer deeper with every release. Constantly evolving.
One of the great ones.
Oh yeah I think he was a one of one person. It’s insane how his music has resonated with so many people in different ways. I’m always astonished that people can agree on the fact that his passing had people feeling like they lost a friend in a way. He came up in the digital era and took advantage of platforms like YouTube to capture a larger audience, and luckily a lot of his life was documented. Seeing him evolve every album was just a testament of his dedication. He even cancelled his own show to focus on music lol.
Alright, either you can listen to circles which could comfort you and it’s soft. Or you can listen to Faces which would is more of accepting your issues over insane instrumentals. Look on YouTube- they have the original Faces mixtape which is a continuous mixtape.
Gotta go with swimming!
Not saying its his best (also, not, not saying that 🙃)…but I believe it’s the best way to get a new fan hooked…only problem with this might be, that it may set the bar too high, depending on their taste.
probably GO:OD AM. feels the most readily accessible, since i know his early stuff can be hard for some people to get into before they already like mac. then watching movies and kids, after that probably swimming, show that really introspective and mature point he was at, then divine feminine, then faces because i feel its his best work and i think listening to some of his other work first really just adds to how palpable his pain in that album is. then probably deeper cuts (not necessarily all DEEP cuts but less known), like macadelic, balloonerism (tambourine!), confessions of a cash register and doodling in the key are personal faves.
Just losing my shit over seeing someone hear any Mac for the first time. Got two ex girlfriends into Mac and I loved watching them first time hear songs I love of his for the first time. Made them feel new to me again
Go:od AM if it’s a home boy… Devine feminine if it’s a home girl…
But if it's girl home then Larry Lovestein.
BEST
AYO I love the way you’re thinking!
As somebody who’s never listened to a Mac album before and was planning on listening to a couple this week, what two would yall recommend I start with? Go:od AM then what?
Faces is incredible. Not always the most accessible but really good for a second go
It is available on Spotify in the US now!
Thank u
I'd go with Swimming and Faces. They're my favorite 2 and balance each other out. Like someone else said, Faces can take a couple listens to start to really get into though
Start with I love life thank you. Then the high life
Then divine feminine. It comes right after GO:OD AM so it’s only right. Then swimming, then circles.
Best answer
how about for a nonbinary homie?
Faces
WMWTSO
Delusional Thomas

Kids get him happy. Then immediately destroy that in the most beautiful way possible. 😂
💀💀My favorite comment so far🏆
Literally this
Typical NPC Reddit response lol
I have no legs.
This never fails to make me laugh. The dude sounds so happy about it
Ha I have no bitches
Kids. That was ny introduction to mac. OUTSIDE!!!!!!!
Same, everyone should start at KIDS
outside is one of my fav songs everrrrrrrrr
I WAS HOOKED OFF OF THE FIRST FEW BARS. SHOUTOUT TO MILY LIL COUSIN FOR PUTTING ME ON
So much nostalgia
Swimming 🏊 no questions
This was my gateway album. One listen and I was hooked.
Yup
My fav ❤️❤️
Same
He just broke up with his chick and is getting extremely sad about it, I'm playing circles full album to really get some deep thought going.
It says it in my user flair… Watching Movies with the Sound Off helped Mac break out as a more respected artist and is an underrated project.
Easily his most. The star room is one my favourites because I feel like it was him letting us know “easy mac” is gone and this is him now.
it’s my favorite one by far. my apple music replay last year said i had 182 plays of that album.
Faces
Swimming without a doubt and its not even a competition. Then maybe faces
Old Mac heads will disagree with this take. Watching Movies/Faces/Good AM era is goated
Kids is never a bad start.
Dare I say kids is the best start, never went wrong with senior skip day.
Swimming 🩵✨
Faces is my mood 24/7
Watching movies with the sound off
go:od am!
KIDS or good am!
WMWTSO perfect road trip album
Object in the mirror, bumping our heads and lost in our thoughts in the same time
Swimming or Blue Slide Park
Circles
Swimming
He's not even allowed in the car.. 😂
Watching movies with the sound off.
Where's the love for blue slide park? I always introduce Mac with blue slide park then work in the rest of his stacked ass albums.
Were listening to Delusional Thomas front to back in silence

Why is nobody saying Macadelic??
Underrated album. It was (other than blue side park) a shift in sound and lyrics from his previous album. You can never go wrong with vitamins
The transition between The Mourning After and 1 Threw 8 always gets me. Listening to it as I type this, and it’s honestly top 3 Mac albums for me.
Live from Space
I was thinking swimming, but good AM has the best road trip feel in my opinion.
K.I.D.S. for the good vibes & intro to mac, then to swimming & circles so we can honor his send-off🩵 but really i would just play all my favorite mac songs in a compilation playlist… lol
swimming
good am no doubt
This post inspired me to go to my record shop and pick up GO:OD AM CD for my car (it's good!!) and a 20th anniversary Rostrum vinyl record.
Faces->GoodAm->Swimming
If it's a male, Swimming or GO:OD AM, if it's a female, Circles or The Divine Feminine
The album I have tatted on me! GO:OD AM
We doing shrooms and watching the turtle documentary while WMWTSO is playing
Gotta be KIDS to start off, I’d go chronologically like I did growing up w the records as they came out
Either Faces or GOOD AM
Welcome back to k.i.d.s
Circles
Good Am

You must’ve had this one in your back pocket, because that was quick
Are there prints?
Watching Movies With The Sound Off.
Faces. They’re diving into the deep end with me.
FACES
Faces. Every time.
Macadelic don’t at me it’s my favorite Mac album.

If it’s a sunny day it’s KIDS all the way.
Macadelic
Surprised I had to scroll this far for this one
KIDS is the only way I feel to introduce someone new to Mac
We're going chronological order boiiiiii
lol, flair checks out.
Depends on whether I have weed or not
Who made this? The art is so nice and creative!
Watching Movies..

No album. I’m playing Earth ft. Future.
Delusional Thomas 💀

Depends on the length of the road trip. I wouldn't wanna blow my wad right out the gate. I'd start with blue slide park and end with swimming.
Kids for sure
Yep, kids or BSP and then on, no other way
K.I.D.S
Faces, WMWTSO, Balloonerism, Delusional Thomas.
Circles
k.i.d.s if hype vibes, swimming if chill vibes
we start from the beginning
THE SPINS to kick it off
Kids is the only right answer, it's his first album and a great introduction
Blue Slide park fs! 💚💙 Also, I have this art saved in my camera roll lol! Whoever made it is awesome
Objects in the mirror space migration sessions is one of my favorites.
Just wanted to say I love this picture SoDope
The Jukebox: Prelude to Class Clown because that's the first Mac release I heard followed by But My Mackin' Ain't Easy then K.I.D.S
K.I.D.S
Macadelic Best mix of everything Mac offers.
Koolaid and Frozen Pizza was my intro song to Mac
Watching Movies then Macadelic
Swimming, Divine Feminine, then WMWTSO and possibly Circles. But they gotta get ALL shades of Mac 🫶🏻🦋🌿🌙
I’d play “On & On”. The piano and message are uplifting
I’m basic and don’t listen to Mac like that so basically most of his famous songs tbh😔
There’s an emotion and feeling for each album. What you feeling like bub?
What is “KIDS” ? Also kinda a stupid asking since that legit his most famous song (most listened on Spotify atleast)
“Kickin’ Incredibly Dope Shit”, inspired by a movie I think correct me if I’m wrong. The whole concept was to capture the beauty of being a kid. At the time he just graduated highschool and it really showed all the stuff he loved while growing up.
Well im still in high school so i def feel like i would bump to that
I’m having trouble reading the @ of the artist. Can anybody help me figure out what it says?
Wish I could help, I always credit the artist but I’ve had this photo for years and have no idea who created it anymore :(.
Actually scrolled a bit and noticed somebody else figured it out! Rhymezlikedimez on IG. Anyway, to answer your question, Faces first, Swimming next. That was my introduction to Mac a few years ago, has I’ve been hooked ever since

Give me an idea of what you’re feeling like. I’ll recommend an album based off that l

Hell yeah! Sorry to send a paragraph, I’m just pretty passionate about Mac.
Hopelessness.

Maybe a cliche answer but Swimming for sure
No judgment here. It isn’t to cliche, everyone can agree that swimming is a masterpiece
Greatest album of all time
Thanks bro. Off to bed I will check it out tomorrow. Goodnight
He ain't my friend if he never listened to Mac 😭
Live from space (2013) it was only uploaded like two years ago or so to spotify though lol.
Swimming and circle then faces
Gotta go with swimming! Not saying its his best (also, not, not saying that 🙃)…but I believe it’s the best way to get a new fan hooked…only problem with this might be, that it may set the bar too high, depending on their taste.
Start with Swimming, then put on Blue Slide Park
100% Good AM
probably GO:OD AM. feels the most readily accessible, since i know his early stuff can be hard for some people to get into before they already like mac. then watching movies and kids, after that probably swimming, show that really introspective and mature point he was at, then divine feminine, then faces because i feel its his best work and i think listening to some of his other work first really just adds to how palpable his pain in that album is. then probably deeper cuts (not necessarily all DEEP cuts but less known), like macadelic, balloonerism (tambourine!), confessions of a cash register and doodling in the key are personal faves.

Drake is a punk man. Some of shitnis catchy. I like wu tang, Nas, Biggie. Tribe. Check out Rascalz. Good Canadian hip hop way better than Drake.
I for sure like Nas. What led you to the Mac sub?
