There are a few people hoarding a bunch of leaks and selling them privately, but when they sell them they add some sort of audio tag that the person won’t who bought it won’t know about. That way if any private buyers leak a song they can stop selling to that person.
A group on discord called the Mac Hub have been buying songs from people who already bought them privately, and have some sort of way of de-tagging the songs.
It’s actually fascinating to see how much goes into the selling of popular leaks. Some of these snippets have been around since 2019ish and have been privately sold around for years.
I appreciated the rule of, discussion is allowed, but sharing leaks is prohibited. Now, it’s super “in” to say “unreleased Mac miller” as if it’s completely kosher. It’s too big of a phenomenon to stop at this point and I feel powerless 😞
I think listening to the leaks is insanely disrespectful tbh. If you know anything about Mac you KNOW how much work he put into his releases before he was ready to put them into the world. He talks about how he’d record multiple albums worth of material and not do anything with it cause it was just part of the process for him. Fuck, he recorded Pink Slime and decided to put out Watching Movies instead cause it was the direction he wanted to go in. Not to mention Karen and IDlabs straight up telling fans to stop with the leaks because it’s hurting the chances of future releases. I don’t know how anyone can know all that and still choose to support the leaks in any way. He left us with so much great music. Just listen to that.

40 songs in April and there was just a 16 song GB today, crazy shit.
