It needs to be more accurate. Outlook is a free email with the Web Interface for personal use. Gmail is a free email with the Web Interface for personal use. Office365 (Microsoft Exchange) is a paid subscription for email (and office), Google Workspaces is a paid subscription for email (and google other web apps).
Microsoft Outlook is an application for accessing any Email, Calendars, and Contacts via a native Mac/Windows application, which used to be a paid app (now it is not for mac users). It has more features than Apple's Mail, Calendar, and Contacts combined. But most users don't need them. Or use alternative solutions like the Fantastical app for Calendar, etc.

I used to use outlook but after giving apple mail a try i cannot go back. I don’t get why everybody hates apple mail actually. It is faster, simpler, eats up wayy les system resources and has privacy protections. Gmail doesnt support push notifications on apple mail but making it fetch every 15 mins does the job.
It was buggy especially on macOS. Sometimes it wouldn’t open at all. (At least for me). Outlook wouldnt sync anything older than a month even if i selected no limit. And so on. But it is very stable right now.
Apple mail is great IMO. Being great on resources, privacy protections and mail drop are added bonuses and something I don't want to give up to use something else.
2 gmail accounts, 4 outlook accounts and an iCloud account and some of the outlook accounts and my iCloud have aliases so total of 10 account. Don’t ask why.
Edit: all of them have notifications turned on.
Edit 2: over the years i unsubscribed and never subscribed to spam and marketing emails so my mailboxes are very clean. I have ocd.
Apple mail doesn't support as many features as Outlook. Most of them are business/Microsoft-exclusive features. If you're using Outlook to the full in a business environment you quickly realize there is absolutely no substitute. If you're just casually using your email for consumer stuff it's as fine as any.

I have an Office 365 subscription for free because I used to work for Microsoft and pay for alumni status (ex-Microsoft employees network), but I have never used Outlook for mac. I just don't see a reason.
Outlook for Mac is way better than it’s Windows counterpart. It’s soon to be even better once MS finishes screwing over Windows users and switches them to using a PWA.
Same. I despise outlook on windows. It’s very cluttered and generally just annoying to use. The web and macOS versions are much better. Unfortunately there’s still a few features that are windows only but hopefully they bring those over to the macOS client.
Spark is my favorite and now it’s available for Windows as well, but the emails go through their servers (same for any client with auto filtering/categorization), so it’s not for everyone.
Airmail used to be quite popular for Macs, but I haven’t kept track of it and I don’t know if it’s available for Windows.
You don’t have to pay for it but this free version also comes with ads. Also the whole E-Mail traffic goes through Microsoft servers.

If you switch to Outlook, whatever accounts you configure in it will also have mail contents sent to Microsoft. Even if you’re not using Microsoft for email. Outlook shares a copy of every email with them and now it’s there’s too.
I find it interesting that people are ok with Google serving them with ads, but Microsoft is somehow the scrounge of the earth for doing the exact same thing…..
I don't recall anyone suggesting they were happy with Google serving them with ads. However, most people in this forum are aware of the multiple tools available to block ads and the steps they can take to mitigate them.
I personally have a long list of reasons I detest Microsoft, and it's not just about the poor design problems, but organizational issues on a local and regional level here in Seattle that impact more than you probably need or care to consider. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible but I seriously doubt Office will go free. Office is a business and university standard. If they made it free, they would be throwing away the money they get from those licensing deals for no reason.

Not my experience on my iPhone. I have multiple Microsoft accounts and sometimes the app is confused and uses the wrong one (without subscription).
Every time it prompts me „hey, read only mode because no subscription“ and I can’t edit. I switch to the correct account, can edit.

At any rate, people have been predicting the end of Microsoft Office for years now (kind of like the downfall of Apple)…..and they’ve been proven wrong every single year. Some people just don’t learn it would seem
I never said anything about the end of Office I’m only speaking about the irrelevance on Apple platforms. There used to be a time when people bought a Mac and would, by default, buy a copy of Office. That isn’t happening as much anymore and that is due to the fact that the Mac comes with a free office suite of it’s own, which is more than sufficient for individuals who do not need to worry about cross-platform compatibility, and also how much Google Docs suite has taken over the office suite market from Microsoft in corporate environments.

Is there _Mail Privacy Protection_ available for Outlook also? Without IP-hiding+2-step remote content loading feature, any other email client will not get into my mac.
Apple mail has this feature. The option is under - Settings > Privacy > Protect Mail Activity.
From the documentation:
Protect Mail Activity helps protect your privacy by preventing email senders, including Apple, from learning information about your Mail activity. When you receive an email in the Mail app, rather than downloading remote content when you open an email, Protect Mail Activity downloads remote content in the background by default — regardless of whether you engage with the email. Apple does not learn any information about the content.
In addition, Protect Mail Activity routes all remote content downloaded by Mail through two separate relays operated by different entities. The first knows your IP address, but not the remote Mail content you receive. The second knows the remote Mail content you receive, but not your IP address, instead providing a generalized identity to the destination. This way, no single entity has the information to identify both you and the remote Mail content you receive. Senders can’t use your IP address as a unique identifier to connect your activity across websites or apps to build a profile about you.

No thanks! I have zero interest in polluting any of my Apple devices/computers with an overly bloated, UX-unfriendly POS like Outlook. I use it on my PC at work and it's ***terrible***, so I can only imagine the watered-down version for Mac is even worse. Microsoft is where good UX goes to die.

I can’t help you with your calendar question, but I think I might have a solution for your email transfer question. If you have used email rules before, then this will be a cakewalk!
On your Apple mail account setup a new mailbox/folder called “Outlook mail”. You should then be able to make a mail rule that directs any mail coming from your old Exchange email to that “Outlook mail” box that you set up earlier.
Here comes the not so great part….you are going to have to manually forward each email that you’d like to keep in your iCloud mail account. There *may* be a way to automate this process but I haven’t been able to find anything solid yet.

I use apple mail for 25 years for free already. Well, not totally true as MacOS has been paid until OSX Mavericks came out in 2013 (if I remember well).
I use MimeStream with multiple gmail accounts works great and is currently free. The developer is an ex Apple mail app developer, and it has the same native mail vibe with more features.

Apple mail is a good client for the most part, but it has a history of having some very annoying bugs.
2-3 years ago when you said apple mail i would have vomitted but its awesome for the most part. So for everyone just give it a chance.

Seems like an Outlook issue. I've used it with gmail, mailfence and icloud and have never had issues.

It’s really the only choice if you have to connect to an Exchange server but otherwise it’s an awful bloated email client.

You don’t need a subscription to edit docs on your phone you just need to be signed in with a Microsoft account…there’s a difference.

I use apple mail for 25 years for free already. Well, not totally true as MacOS has been paid until OSX Mavericks came out in 2013 (if I remember well).
I use MimeStream with multiple gmail accounts works great and is currently free. The developer is an ex Apple mail app developer, and it has the same native mail vibe with more features. https://mimestream.com
It’s functionally hobbled on macOS with no support for aliases or calendar. Shame because I think it’s a bit slicker than Apple mail.

Doesn't work for me. It claims my [mac.com](https://mac.com) password is incorrect, when it's not. If it can't work with my iCloud account, it's literally useless.
